Red Dead Online represents the worst. Rockstar attached "beta" on it just so they could experiment how far they could go in terms of micro-transactions and lack of content/features, without repercussions.
The sunset: "Dat look goooood!" The open vistas: "Dat look gooooood!" The tiny details, animations and character models: "Dat look gooooood!" Micah Bell: "You done FUCKED IT UP!"
This phenomenon is because of a game called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Pre 2015 Angry Joe used to hand over higher rating than usual like for example he gave Dragon Age: Inquisition a 9/10!! Because at that time the standards were on just like the usual post 2006 generation standards especially for open world games. Then after 2015 The Witcher 3 set a new standard, and was actually the last 10/10 Joe gave to game, since then Joe doesnt give 10/10 easily and the 9/10 is now reserved to very good games and not just an ok game. So if it wasnt for the Witcher 3 i think Red Dead 2 would have gotten a 10/10 but the new standard have been set in 2015 and looking at 2016-2018 it doesnt look like it will change anytime soon. Hope that explains your confusion.
@@Miuranger1 This is not true, what you wrote is a bullshit opinion of yours, going by the golden standard it is not. Hell..i can say The Godfather is a shit movie too, but according to the critical conscious and the gold standard of film-making it is simply not a correct statement. What i think is :--> you have an awful taste. The gameplay in Witcher 3 is full of strategy and variety from builds to fight approach, the mechanics, and the amount of stuff you can do, variety in monsters and utility you do and take, exploring and different maps which offer different lore and different environment, interesting crafting, great lore/explanation behind everything in the game (unlike other games they dont just throw shit at your face they actually invest in making it logical and well supported by the lore). The Story is not a cliche since it is based on old books which was original (FYI Witcher is older than things like Elder Scrolls, Game of Thrones) and similarities can be found in writing doesnt mean it is cliche. Side quests have meaning and care behind them (not all but even the small ones and contracts are far from being bad) Characters are unique and offer great development with distinct personalities. Choices actually matter and have consequences on the game. As for Bugs i have not encountered bugs in my playthrough, maybe there was some few little bugs at the time of its release, considering the game budget is low and the project was ambitious bugs can happen in these situations, though CDPR definitely fixed them, they are after all the company with most respect to their customers and this is an undeniable truth. Witcher has good animation and graphics, great art design, great music and voice acting, fun and strategical combat, a lot of gameplay options to the RPG open world gaming (set a new standard) it has a good plot (pacing, content, folklore, choices, content, engaging premise, good ending) with very few issues it has also the best cast in a game imo (great diversity of characters, amazing personalities, good development, good backstory on a lot of them, they have their presence, the DLC villain is one of the best villains of all time in gaming he is not one-dimensional, you feel the characters you feel they are alive & are part of the story and part of your journey example is Regis, it also has some nice catharsis for the main character Geralt) The game also offers high replay value due to different builds and choices. I mean i dont know how someone can ignore what Witcher 3 as a game has done in its category and how it improved gaming in general, it definitely set a new standard for open world RPG and your comment just shows me that you either just dont like how the game is high rated (highest rated in users section and very high rated in journalists section) and how the game has the most awards, OR you just have a shit taste in art in general, either way it doesnt matter, maybe my comment offer you some nice information about critical analysis or someone who will read it in the future.
Developers put fast travel in a game... Gamers: It's ruining open world experience. Developers don't put fast travel in a game... Gamers: the world is way too big. Go figure...
@@intalent choice is meaningless in this matter. If it's there it's the same as if fast travel was there all time long in the first place. Have you ever installed "no fast travel" mod for Skyrim? Yes, you play with it, you roleplay and such but once the real need appears you just turn it off. So what's the point? It's either yay or nay.
i dislike fast travel but sometimes you're in one side of the map because of a mission then you have to go to the other side of the map,for an example the first hosea's mission was like that, tho he offered you a ride so i guess it is ok
@@YVman24 Yeah, I tried playing witcher 3 again after finishing rdr 2. I legit couldn't get into it again because I kept subconsciously comparing the horse riding and animations...
I was buying peaches at the store in Valentine, insulted some guy, beat him up, got arrested, came back the next day and the owner said "Don't be causing any more trouble in my shop. I'm watching you, don't think I'm not!" I started harassing everyone at camp and then John came from behind and said "That's enough!" and knocked me out. I stumbled into St. Denis by accident in my muddy coat and hat while everyone else was sophisticated and well dressed and I got the impression of how much out of water Arthur suddenly became and it was an odd feeling since not most games can do that! And another time I got on the trolley in St. Denis and talked to a few of the passengers, decided to jump off while it was still moving and fell face first into the street with one of the guys I talked to started laughing and said "I love this country!" xD
I was in St. Denis one night, just walking through town, when this couple flipped the heck out. They over-reacted, screaming at me and demanding that I leave. Apparently, I'd stumbled into their back garden and scared them. RDR2 had sooo many emergent moments that will last with me. My favorite open world game of all.
Alot of people didnt seen to understand that even though arthur was the majn character but the story was meant to he John's story and about his old gang it was meant to build upon John's story so people will also like john better I liked playing as john in the end due to knowing more about him I like him much more now
@@hadez908 It isn't a prequel to John's story, though. It features John Marston, but it tells Arthur Morgan's story no ifs or buts. In the words of the co-studio head of Rockstar North, "It’s a companion piece. They exist together. They’re connected. There’s a lot of connective tissue between the two stories and lots of characters that you’ve seen before that you’ll see again. But it's a standalone tale. It's Arthur's story. We really wanted people to experience his story. You'll see a bit of John through his eyes, you'll see Bill, you'll see Javier, and you'll meet lots of new characters. You'll get to learn a lot more about Dutch.” Can't argue with the game devs.

Yep Spiderman, GOW, RDR2 all nominated all great games. Having played all 3 i would give it to Red dead just for the imersion and story. But yh fuck EA and Activision.
Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War 4, Spiderman. Man! All of these games are so beautifully crafted and all of them are so enjoyable, it's really hard to pick a winner. Gameplay wise, I would say Spiderman beats both. Story wise, it's kind of neck and neck between GoW and RDR2. When it comes to direction, I would choose GoW. Soundtrack, all of them have such beautiful soundtracks. So, now you see? How difficult it is to choose. And all of them are completely worth the $60.
Honestly the limited fast travel wasn't a huge problem for me. Sure, sometimes I might postpone longer rides until It's more convenient, but it really helped with the immersion of the game to have to pretty much ride everywhere. Also being able to come across random encounters/honor missions. If you didn't ride everywhere, you wouldn't find these interactions. Same with the looting. The more I have to watch my character go through certain animations, the more immersed I become in the game. But.. yes.. slow walking in camp is infuriating.
@@JJsiN84 that was the one I was thinking about. I also remember pointing a gun at someone, and not only did they not run away or shoot back, or get the law, they basically told me to get lost. It was so damn funny.
that exact thing happened to me as shown in the video, someone was standing next to my horse, I hit triangle and choke him to death. Become wanted try to escape and crush pedestrian with my horse...
So frustrating. Early on in the game, I spent like 15 minutes trying to get this guy's horse back. It kept spooking and running away from me, so I just lassoed it and rode back to the guy. He starts thanking me, runs towards his horse, runs into my horse, gets knocked down, then as soon as he gets back up, starts shooting at me.
I was on the road and a guy riding by on a horse was hurt and needed me to take him to the doctor in st denis. I took him and brought him in to the doctor and apparently got a disturbing the peace bounty for I'm not even sure exactly what.
2 years later and still no game has come even remotely close to this gem. Hell I'd be surprised if any game except another rockstar title will be as good as this
Prince of Losers he was just super rushed by fans to put it out. I totally agree with you, he should have had more original skits and such. Hopefully we’ll see a better one when online comes out
For minor crimes, like unarmed assault. If you wait around for the law to show up you can choose to defuse and apologise and they will let you off without a bounty.
Paweł Petek yes but it’s a one way trip and the random encounters are fun but sometimes id just like to get the main objective done without having to ride on a horse for 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back
For me Zelda Breath of the Wild is up there too, but of course not for the same reasons. Those two you mention focus on story the most, while BOTW focuses on gameplay, exploration and complete freedom of movement in the world. They are all great in my view.
The entire skit with the Witness somehow finding Joe in middle of nowhere killed me. Too many times I’ve played RDR2 and ended up having to chase down a witness that somehow saw me out in the middle of nowhere.
Some raiders started chasing me around St. Denis with knives. I ran right by the police and they did nothing. As I kept running, I accidentally bumped into someone and then the lawmen started opening up fire AND the raiders kept attacking me together like they formed some sort of army against me. Then I had to pay off a $100 bounty after I died. I really hope they fix stuff like this.
I’m saying idk how many time a dude ran into me on a horse we both fall he shoots. What am I not suppose to murder him. But then I got an army on me within seconds. Always when I’m about to do a mission 2.
RDR 2 is made by the studio that had been making open world game since 2001, while CD Projekt only had Witcher 3 under their belt, and even that game was built on the previous 2 Witchers. Cyberpunk didn't have a base to build on, they have to go for it from scratch, after insane project scope creep as well, surprised me that it even came out. It wasn't made with ray tracing and all that nonsense, but got added later during development because it sounds "cool".
@@lc9245 Knowing how long Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development, it should have been a masterpiece. Hell I stumbled upon it in 2017 when it was still upcoming. That was four damn years ago. Bethesda better not disappoint with The Elder Scrolls six and Stanfield. Those two games better be good. I've been waiting for a release date for five years just about it.
I like how they made it so you can only hold 2 Main weapons then the rest stay on your horse. It makes it more realistic then like GTA 5 when you pull RPG out of your spine lol.
Luke Persi it’s definitely a flaw, especially when you’re in a situation where you need to get off your horse to fight and your rifles are left on the horse and how the story missions have weapon presets

The horse stealing scene hit me in my feels. I once bought a $900 horse, and not 5 minutes later I got jumped by some raiders. When I respawned the horse was replaced with just a saddle on the ground. Never found again. Rip.
"Map is undetailed?" My friend, that map is so detailed that it's ridiculous. The map records: all animals you track and kill, all plants, collectibles, locations, missions, terrain, roads, trails, vendors, and territories. If anything, this is the MOST detailed map in gaming (minus climate areas of course).
I'm pretty sure he was referring to the actual map (the one you use to set destinations and such). Its a simple drawing to look like an old time map. It doesnt give you much info. He wasnt talking about the game world itself.
one time i was riding my horse across the beautiful great plains when some asshole decided to put a cliff infront of me and i rode off it. what an asshole
Also both are pretty boring so guess your right. Cant wait to start another mission of endless talking and shopping and just nothing of interest for hours at a time.
they need to revamp the whole bounty system in my opinion, and they need to fix the economy of the game. None of the side activities is worth doing because nothing pays, selling horses and pelts for $3 isnt fun, Poker is $5 buy-in at max. It's ridiculous. Money has no use, and they gave us a mission that pays $2500 and completely breaks the economy. Other than that, the game is awesome!
I've found that if I'm wearing a mask, the only time I'll ever get bounty is when I'm up close with lawmen. All witnesses can do is call for lawmen, so I'll ride past people all the time and get reported for kidnapping, but I'm always out of the area before I'm identified for a bounty.
Dude, you know it's coming. The Baby Yoda side missions where you get to a play him are gonna be adorable and then unexpectedly epic when he uses the force.
I'm afraid they'll never outdo RDR2 in terms of world building, story and attention to detail. All the little minute details and animations they have for every action is so satisfying and immersive. I hope I'm wrong!
26:10 "Aren't you, Patrick Star?" "Yup." "And this is your ID." "Yup." "I found this ID in this wallet. And if that's the case, this must be your wallet." "That makes sense to me." "Then take it!" "That's not my wallet."
Mee too! Paying attention trying to find new plants, studying wildlife, ambuses, and random npc encounters make them world inmersing. And the absolutely amazing scenery with the different weather, total masterpiece
Far kas If you think about it it’s sort of realistic. If you killed someone who robbed you in real life and stumbled across the situation they wouldn’t assume it was self defense.
I have one better... Me: walking down the street on my horse Man runs into my horse Instant witness, and a bounty... Now, I am standing in front of the racist in Saint Denis. There is a lawman standing there watching. I pushed the guy and a fight insured. I blocked most of the time thinking about getting another of the million bounties I already have gotten when I notice the cop has a huge smile and is actually egging me on. I killed the guy and the cop almost gave me a thumbs up and he didn't do anything
Far kas ok the Wild West was still real life at one point. So you’re saying back then people always assumed you we’re the victim if they saw you standing over a body?
finn no im saying back then they probs didn’t care if someone died if they got shot just because they mugged you in that time period people were in gangs and violents was mostly common even if the law saw it they probably would shoot or arrest you but in general people won’t say anything if you killed someone because they don’t want to get killed them selves
That's a very fair and solid review. One thing I don't see mentioned very often which added to the complete immersion of this game was the score (music) which was fantastic and always in the correct place at the correct time.
One or two times it was off. Like being in the middle of something action packed and dramatic only to hear... twang.... diddle-aaaaang... ... ... plink plink... ... twaaaang. Overall it was good but they certainly didn't nail it 100%.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of my most favorite games of all time The story is amazing, emotional, dark, with the ending being an absolute tearjerker, graphics are absolutely gorgeous, downright photorealistic, it has so much attention to detail that it still blows me away to this day The gameplay is intense, challenging, and immersive, especially with the badass Dead Eye ability The world is huge, richly detailed, and highly immersive, to the point where I didn’t want to do anything else in the game other than just running around everywhere and exploring Yes it’s tedious at times, yes it’s very slow paced, yes it’s annoying that fast travel is barely in the game, and Red Dead Online wasn’t that good to me But at least the single player version was and always will be my favorite game of this generation, now that is my opinion, and I can understand why this game isn’t some peoples cup of tea due to it being quite a slow game But I felt very immersed and sucked into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar knocked it out of the park with this game
DomTheBomb God of War, Spider-Man. Lots of options of "Game of the Year" this year. Also virtually all of them are SINGLE PLAYER focused or only. This should be "The Year of Shitting on EA's Sense of Pride and Accomplishment."

To me, it's not just 10/10, but a solid hard earned 10/10. The nitpickings that Angryjoe mentioned, didn't negatively affect my gameplay experience and I love this game just as I love The Witcher 3. Both of them deserve to be equals and legendary games in my book, that set new standards for new upcoming games. Yeeeha!

Please edit this comment to say spoiler alert or something. Please. I unfortunately accidentally read a comment from a troll that ruined the ending for me a while back, and I don't want anyone to do the same. Not saying you're trolling or trying to ruin it, but lots of people watching this are either considering purchasing it, or haven't beat it.
I really would’ve preferred the epilogue not being as long, it really took a way from Authur’s story, which was such an emotional and epic ending imo. But by time I was finished the game Arthur was just like a distant memory idk. I mean I loved seeing John get the ranch and marry Abigail, that was awesome, but they fr coulda cut down sum parts , it should’ve been kept the same length of the first red dead.
Arthur by far had me invested every step of his journey also can I say Charles Smith had to be the most badass honorable side character in the entire game next to Arthur.
A lot of people here are complaining that Joe gave 9/10 and that he didn't like that there was too much riding at the end of the game. But don't get him or yourself wrong, this review tells Joe's opinion and based on his opinion you decide if the game is worth for YOU to buy or not. I mean that is why we are all here, because Joe's opinion is consistent and based on that we decide if we should take our time to play or not. And I completely understand why Joe didn't like why there wasn't enough fast travel, because when you try to complete the game 100%, at the end, when you have completed 90% of the game you are looking for those things you haven't yet completed and when the game forces you to keep doing things you already did over and over again ("like riding for very long time") they start to spoil the whole game. If you ever try to complete the game 100% you will start to notice those little details and they just "stack up" at the end. (i've been there)
katinas If he played this game on the Xbox X with the Enhanced graphics and performance of the X provides. Riding is a pleasure! Just beautiful detail, so much better than a ps4 can provide.

Fuq this bullshit!!! i was hoping they would just sit there and play random twitch vids of them playing it!!! complete wast of time!!! where the fuck is del?!! rapid review would have been better!!!
I think that the honor system weeds out the bad egg players into hating the game. like when people say its too slow. those are the cod fanboys and it kinda pisses me off.
The no fast traveling makes the game feel bigger, more immersive, and when you turn on cinematic camera the game feels and looks like a western movie, gamers are so impatient now :(
I agree, Mister. Not having fast travel as a feature that can be used often makes the game feel more genuine to the setting. Plus, there's so much detail within the game that it's easy to miss little things and encounters if one were to skip the long distances. I don't know why people would want to fast travel.
@@12227UserName The problem is what is interesting to us is not interesting to them which is why they would rather skip it. Although that begs the question why they even bought the game to begin with if that's the case.
@@JustShin11 You actually wrote what I was going to end my original comment with, but ultimately decided not to - That is, this game isn't meant for you if you feel fast travel should have been a big feature. The game is so dense with detail. It's truly revolutionary for a videogame. Then add to that the phenomenal soundtrack, various random encounters, various random sites (some being quite fantastical and or mysterious), the abundant level of different animals and resources - every ride is well worth it. And if people complain that it's 'too realistic', then again, the game simply isn't for them. That's probably the biggest complaint I have for Joe's review. Arguing that the game is too realistic is absurd to me. It's that realism, that heavy weight, that slow pace that largely helps make the game one of the most immersive videogames of all time, if not the most immersive. And for those who rush through the game, they'll end up missing on a lot of additional things. But to Joe's defense, he may have been trying to rush through the game in order to push out his review. Perhaps if he didn't have to make reviews and had the time, he would have played it slow and let it build up. But on the other hand, I'm hearing a lot of people state that he stopped giving 10s after Witch 3 for some reason. I'm over 70 hours in the game and I'm only on Chapter 4, midway. Hell, wish I wasn't even that far ahead, considering how I'm trying to do every possible thing before the epilogue. I'm not the sort of guy who does 2nd playthroughs in open world games. By the time I reach the end, if I want to play more of the game, I'll just explore or do random things as Marston.
@@12227UserName Some people don't have all day to play video games. Sometimes they want to play the story during the free time they have. This is a reason why some people at least want the option to fast travel in open world games.

Yeah I accidentally shot some criminal and trampled time lady coming out of the town police in San Denis and which got me hunted out of town and having to sneak in to get missions done, eventually getting max bounty in that town
I accidentally pressed antagonize when talking to the sheriff after turning in a bounty, he immediately pulled out his gun before I even finished saying my insult, and I’m wanted......
Same here, it's peaceful to play alone. The story is great, the immersion is great, even the travel, although annoying in some cases is great. If I have to deal with other random people it ruins the amazing experience.
That moment when you accidentally get on someone else’s horse and instead of them giving you a few seconds and telling you to get off they immediately assume your stealing it and the cops are shooting you.
Yeah. It's waaaay too easy to get into trouble. So many times I've pressed L2 to focus on someone only to draw my weapon because I had to fight off bandits or something, scare them to shit and get in trouble.

"Is this game better than the first? YEAH!"
*GIVES RED DEAD 2 9/10*
Rdr 1 is better
richie j nostalgia alert
@@jackjager8790 witcher gameplay was awful and was buggy. Story was cliche
Side quests have meaning and care behind them (not all but even the small ones and contracts are far from being bad)
Characters are unique and offer great development with distinct personalities.

Now, I am standing in front of the racist in Saint Denis. There is a lawman standing there watching. I pushed the guy and a fight insured. I killed the guy and the cop almost gave me a thumbs up and he didn't do anything
finn this is in the Wild West
Let's not forget the "May I Stand Unshaken" scenes that were awesome.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of my most favorite games of all time
The story is amazing, emotional, dark, with the ending being an absolute tearjerker, graphics are absolutely gorgeous, downright photorealistic, it has so much attention to detail that it still blows me away to this day
The gameplay is intense, challenging, and immersive, especially with the badass Dead Eye ability
The world is huge, richly detailed, and highly immersive, to the point where I didn’t want to do anything else in the game other than just running around everywhere and exploring
Yes it’s tedious at times, yes it’s very slow paced, yes it’s annoying that fast travel is barely in the game, and Red Dead Online wasn’t that good to me
But at least the single player version was and always will be my favorite game of this generation, now that is my opinion, and I can understand why this game isn’t some peoples cup of tea due to it being quite a slow game
But I felt very immersed and sucked into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar knocked it out of the park with this game
Dead Eye is just an in-game aimbot. What could be worse than that.

I'm a bit confused what does Joe mean by limited fast travel? You can always setup and camp and fast travel to major locations around the map.
Just beautiful detail, so much better than a ps4 can provide.
very mature and most appropriate comment. Katinas is absolutely right, stop dumping your responsibility on other people and start to be accountable in life! This is his opinion, YOU decide to buy or not based on YOUR opinion.

The no fast traveling makes the game feel bigger, more immersive, and when you turn on cinematic camera the game feels and looks like a western movie,
gamers are so impatient now :(
When hunting down Micah the only thing I was thinking was ecstasy of gold in my head
@@JustShin11
You actually wrote what I was going to end my original comment with, but ultimately decided not to - That is, this game isn't meant for you if you feel fast travel should have been a big feature.
Should have given this game a YEEHAW/10

Same here, it's peaceful to play alone. The story is great, the immersion is great, even the travel, although annoying in some cases is great. If I have to deal with other random people it ruins the amazing experience.
I like the travel I just love being alone with my horse and the great landscapes
More like 30-40 hours tbh. Red dead 2 is barely a sandbox and its definitely not an RPG
That moment when you accidentally get on someone else’s horse and instead of them giving you a few seconds and telling you to get off they immediately assume your stealing it and the cops are shooting you.
