I liked the stationary cutcenes when Arkane did it in Dishonored because it was atmospheric and fit the oil painting art style. But that doesn't mean they can just throw them into every game because it worked with one!
I think I finally recognize "Our Most Ambitious Game to Date" is marketing speak for we promised too much and are missing development milestones, I hope the upper management gives us more time to develop this game or the next year is going to be hell. Some studios get lucky and pull off a miracle and make a great game, others fail miserably, what stays the same is at least someone almost worked themselves to death doing unpaid overtime.
if ambition is 4 player co-op with recycled mission design, mediocre ai and powerpoint cutscenes i think game devs might need to rethink their idea of what ambition actually is, it feels "ambitious" is always applied to these types of 4 player live service games, to me thats not ambition thats just following trends
Being super ambitious has never been a positive in marketting. It always meant "our game will suffer from feature bloat, oversized maps with nothing in them or unrefined features/gameplay loop"
Hah yeah. I especially enjoyed the end where OJ is asking "you wanna play a vampire game" and he's looking old compared to 13 years ago (as he should).
No it hasn’t been. Honestly, I’d say this year has been a pretty good overall year for game releases. We’ll see how the rest of it goes, but Joe himself gave multiple games 10s earlier in the year.
😂. This review is just as lazy as the game they reviewed; all reused clips from a 4 hour stream an no new imput on the game itself. Watch a review from years ago an then watch this...lazy crap. How the mighty have fallen. The dichotomy of angry Joe and arkane is one and the same. At the end od the day go elsewhere if you want info on a game.
@@Hobgoblinslayer69 You clearly didn't watch the video lmao. And like the other person said, this content is free, unlike this game where you either have to pay full price or get it on game pass which still costs money. You literally have said nothing valid
If gaming companies want to jack up prices, then they should have even more content than games from my youth. Growing up in the 90s and 00s, we actually had FINISHED games you didnt pay to unlock stuff. Now games are nearly 3 times as expensive, unfinished, and filled with micro transactions
When he talked about how this was the worst AAA game in awhile in the opening, all I could think about was how funny it is this review was recorded before Gollum released lol
that all depends on Joe, since his reviews have taken a back seat to those news updates. He really should leave that to OJ and Alex, since I think the whole point of that whole segment is to give them more of a chance to shine, since Joe supposedly steals the spotlight for himself for years lol
@Sebastian Gonzales Everyone has a sense of integrity. If the devs actually cared about their reputation, and what Arkane represents in the industry, they never would have compromised everything they believe in and stand for by humouring Arkane and Bethesda's stakeholders. They never would have agreed to wrap up whatever... "this" is. If I were on that team, I would make many serious consideration: remain with my peers, or jump ship (and swim to a far better shore).
@@sebastiangonzales46 It's easy to say that. But development STILL went into this game. Apparently. Somewhere. Under the surface. They're all responsible. Corporate AND development team
The even sadder part about all of this, is Arkane has not said one word since release. and after 5 weeks, not one patch released! Fucking unacceptable!!!
Frankly one of the best reviews so far. From Joe freezing himself to mimic the "cutscenes", to the skits, to Alex' smug look when he C4's Joe, to Joe attacking the camera and using the OJ 'technical difficulties' sign, all of it was brilliant.
In order for us to get an instant classic of an Angry Review, all you need is a game that puts Joe through the wringer and into an existential crisis while playtesting ;D
When Joe started freezing it reminded me of those other youtubers that talk using reaction thumbnails as a mascot. It must've been started by extra credits but they take it to a new level.
Oh my God, the fact that Joe framed himself in silly poses to mock how cheap and crappy the cutscenes (if you can even CALL them that) were, is the chocolate covered cherry on top of this entire video for me😂 Edit: For those who wanna know what I'm talking about, look at 12:44
I burst out laughing when the woman highlighted the AI being tactical and able to take cover as if that's something impressive/special in 2023. Guerrilla Games implemented tactical AI in Killzone for the PS2.
2005 was a very long time ago my dude. The technology we have in 2023 may be better but it doesn’t mean the new generation of Devs are gonna have the same talent that the devs from 17 years ago had.
@@highlivin1917 That's exactly the point, devs today have access to much more advanced SDKs and more powerful hardware to work with, it's a skill issue because in today's gaming world you don't have to be "excellent", you just have to get by and that's the lukewarm problem we have.
Thanks for defending the artists at the end! It must suck to work on something for so long just for it to turn out to be a mess because of other people's poor decisions.
This review honestly reminded me why I fell in love with this channel in the first place. INSTANT classic right here! It felt like being back ten years ago when I first was tearing up to your angry reviews as a kid
Tbh it's easy to forget we had a lot of really good game for quite some time. Even the stinkers at least had some pretty good redeemable qualities. Redfall is just a complete and utter disaster, the kind you used to only see years ago when studios just didn't care. Redfall has more in common with those early access games on steam made by a studio that just wants a cash-in than anything resembling what Arkane has done in the last 10 years, which is why it's so infamous. It's not a shit studio making a shit game that surprises nobody, it's a great studio making an absolute dumpster fire.
I will forever thank this abomination of a gaming for giving material to one of the top angry joe reviews of all time. This one is gonna be one of those constant repeat ones form me, guaranteed.
While Angry Joe is a cute example of child-like hyperbole, as a neo-scientific-realist-centrist ally of abstractions, this game just needs to be fixed otherwise it's fine.

I started laughing at 8:20 at the window bit and then I realized that was probably the exact same thing Arkane and Bethesda were doing on the other side of the window and I got kinda sad.
I had no interest in the game so I didn’t really know about it. Watching this video has really opened my eyes and shocked me how bad it really is. Keep fighting the good fight Joe and the angry army. Appreciate y’all
This current state of "AAA" games has been getting more and more questionable for whether the title is actually worth a damn or will be pure trash. At least with Redfall being on Game Pass, it's not bad to try to see if it is worth it or not, but for others that's just the usual 50/50 gamble of good or bad and we have to rely on people like AJ and others to truly give us a heads-up on what's happening with games now pricing at most $70, we gotta be more vigilant
It was such a good setting. I hope someone does the same concept of a town of people turning into vampires, blotting out the sun and raising the sea, but does it competently.
I've considering doing this concept as a fan game that has a female dhampire as the lead anti-heroine to serve as a spiritual successor to Bloodrayne numerous times but haven't done it because I don't have the money, team, or the tech to do it and have it be good aka playable and fun. Cause as Redfall proved having an awesome concept like this and actually turning it into a awesome game that's actually playable and fun are two completely different things.
17:35 I personally loved the idea of the past-blast storytelling in something like Metro, but that's because they executed it so well. Seeing the ruins turned back to life, with the hustle and bustle of people, contrasted with the present day made it incredibly beautiful yet haunting.
It boggles the mind how you can make Vampire Bosses *boring.* You could've had each vampire boss specialize in a different aspect of vamprism: One is really into transformation magic, so they keep turning into a wolf for sudden lunging charges or bats for dodging and plink damage. Someone who mixes up their attacks so much it's hard to study them. One is a dab hand and blood magic, so it's an arena full of captured humans for them to feast on to regain health and kill off to use their blood for big attacks, and players could try to free some of them to deny them to the boss but put themselves in a vulnerable spot while they do so. One does shadow magic and their section is a battle against the environment as shadows lance out from every direction to attack the player, forcing a lot of dodging reactions and using flashlights to try and pin down the boss long enough to deal some damage. One is the last before the final boss and they focus on thralling and necromancy, the person who's been creating the majority of the minions you've been fighting all game, and taking him out would feel like a real reward and proper payback against the horde. Their arena would be a mashup of unique "Experiments" of creatures they've tried to make rather than just more standard dudes, unstable and with attack patterns you haven't faced yet. The final final boss could just use all that stuff since they're the biggest badass and of course they'd be good at all of it.
Remember when Redfall was the worst game of the year? And then it was Gollum? And then it was Kong? And then it was Walking Dead Destinies? And now it's The Day Before?... It feels like just yesterday, Arkane put out it's first dud. Oh, how the world turns.
The fact OJ could hold a straight face while saying, "you wanna play a vampire game" is a testament of his acting skills, I could tell from his eyes alone he was holding back a pained expression... X)
People more worried about keeping there jobs then putting out a good product. Even Phill had this look of wtf during the interview and disappointed at how badly it was reviewed. Mock reviewers were saying it was good, people in the middle management were OKing what was being shown. People blame Phill cause he is the face, but don't get that there is a lot of people that see what the game is like before him and they all thought this product was ok to ship. He got screwed for trusting the people below him. Xbox Needs a lot of internal cleaning up in middle management because it is filled with YES men.
@@MagumoKawasaki Well if you look at it right now this is the case. Bobby has all the say on what happens and bobby makes money. @@2KAMB So, what are you doing in a channel whose trademark is the skits and humor? One just wonders. That's like going to the beach and complaining about the sand.
This could have been Dishonored + Vampyr + Bioshock Focus on single player as you fight through vampires, demons, and monsters using concepts throughout history to fight creatures. Garlic grenades, stake rifles, holy laser cannon using paper charms swapping different types(burn, freeze, lightning) with your guardian angel giving you powers like blind the enemies with holy light, transform into a nephilm with increased strength and defense and claws, stealth with your holy dagger for melee. You can upgrade your weapons against enemies that gain new forms as it goes on. Side missions as you help people based on stories tied to the creature’s mythos like a side mission involving Bloody Mary harassing people in a neighborhood or the local zombie trying to create an army to fight the vampires by killing innocents. You can make decisions that ultimately culminate with you fighting the head vampire and you either defeating them and preparing for your next fight with the true enemy Satan or you become Satan’s new minion. The choices are based on how you handle certain decisions like whether you banish a child’s ghostly soul or grant him peace. Notes could be actually based on creature lore and how they’re affecting the world. Add proper music and graphics and you have a game.
Vampyr was jank but that relationship mechanic was really interesting and really drove the player to explore and talk to everyone. Would like to see something similar on a bigger scale
@@willywitchdoctor There was charm to the jank lol but yes, a version of that blown up with massive talent behind it would be amazing, especially since it feels like vampire games don’t get as much love as they could
Yeah, a fitting studio to fulfil true potential of such a cool concept with great depth, and they wasted it down the shitter. What sucks is not how the game turned out and all the shortcomings it has such as it being a live service-looter-shooter-always online-coop-dogshit, but a missed opportunity. Who knows when someone else will try to make a proper game in that setting with at least a fraction of depth and interesting stuff that you described. Rather later than sooner at this point, when someone will try to pitch the idea of a game being about vampires, redfall will be in the discussion why they probably shouldn't

Ambitious, but rubbish

if ambition is 4 player co-op with recycled mission design, mediocre ai and powerpoint cutscenes i think game devs might need to rethink their idea of what ambition actually is, it feels "ambitious" is always applied to these types of 4 player live service games, to me thats not ambition thats just following trends
Being super ambitious has never been a positive in marketting. It always meant "our game will suffer from feature bloat, oversized maps with nothing in them or unrefined features/gameplay loop"

It boggles the mind how you can make Vampire Bosses *boring.*
You could've had each vampire boss specialize in a different aspect of vamprism:
One is really into transformation magic, so they keep turning into a wolf for sudden lunging charges or bats for dodging and plink damage.

Focus on single player as you fight through vampires, demons, and monsters using concepts throughout history to fight creatures.
