    Lyrics below:
In the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine
Stretch out my life and pick the seams out
Take what you like, but close my ears and eyes
Watch me stumble over and over
I have done wrong, you build your tower
But call me home and I will build a throne
And wash my eyes out never again
But love the one you hold
    And I'll be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the light
Skin too tight and eyes like marbles
You spin me high, so watch me as I glide
    Before I tumble homeward, homeward
I know I tried, I was not stable
Flawed by pride, I miss my sanguine eyes
So hold my hands up, breathe in and breathe out
So love the one you hold
    And I'll be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the light
And in the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
You may not trust the promises of the change I'll show
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine
So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the light
So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the light

There's an endless list of reasons to love Idris Elba, but for me it always comes down to this video. His acting just moves me to tears so deeply in a way rarely anything manages to do repeatedly every single time I watch it.
And on top of it the indescribably hauntingly melancholic and uplifting Mumford & Sons song, making this just an emotional masterpiece.

What I take away from this beautiful video and song is a powerful message of faith. Relating humans to the deer who is taken care of day after day living by faith with no ability to plan for the future. And Idris represents a human who decides to let go of control and live by faith running toward the light. I love all of the close calls and things that could have gone wrong but everything works out and he is free.

If you guys haven't found out yet. There is a syndrome where one loses their sight when it gets dark, like simply getting more blind than normal when it gets dark. So that explains why he was running after the sun. He didn't want to lose the light, because without it he will be blind. Also where we can asses that the light is also the presence of his loved ones, hence the name Lover of the light. This music video gives me chills and is on my fav 5 music videos. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as i do.. ;D

I see it as doubly meaningful - that ^ and he has already lost a loved one (talking to himself, setting two places at the breakfast table, etc..) ... he has already lost some of his sunshine, some of his sight.. he is running after 'her' (or him), fighting for the last ray of the daytime knowing that darkness follows - and then accepting it at the last minute that it might cause his destruction. Notice the smile after the 'fist at the sky' moment - he has hope - hope for tomorrow and the light that it brings.

Brian Baker This isn't the early 70s, stop living in the past. Different generations, different views of society and the world as a whole, therefor our perception of the "arts" changes. People from the 1930s wouldn't have been so enthusiastic about music from the 70s as are people from the 70s about the 2010s, different strokes, friend

this felt like a love letter from God to me the first time i watched the video and heard the song. Not the kind that makes you smile fondly, but the kind that made me run to my room and sob so violently that my husband thought something was wrong. My husband had said to listen to this new song... My parents had divorced after almost four decades of marriage, i was pregnant and had just moved to a new town where we knew no one, and i was just filled with such aching sorrow. I couldn't hear God when i prayed, and when i opened my Bible, i didn't feel Him talking to me out of the pages. I was going to church out of obedience and rote, wanting to do the right thing, wanting to feel right in the world, but everything felt so wrong and broken. This song was so clearly telling me "keep walking toward what you know is good. Don't give up. Don't just sit down and cry. RUN toward what is good, and forget everything else"... It was what i needed to know that God saw me, He understood my broken heart, and He was still for me. He still had a good plan in all the mess.

"Lover Of The Light"- Mumford & Sons
And in the middle of the night
    I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength
Of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade
    Of the shadows thrown
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine
    Stretch out my life
    And pick the seams out
    Take what you like
But close my ears and eyes
Watch me stumble over and over
    I had done wrong
    You build your tower
    But call me home
And I will build a throne
And wash my eyes out never again
But love the one you hold
    And I'll be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the lights
    With skin too tight
    And eyes like marbles
    You spin me high
So watch me as I glide
    Before I tumble homeward, homeward
    I know I tried
    I was not stable
    And flawed by pride
    I miss my sanguine eyes
So hold my hands up - breathe in and breathe out
So love the one you hold
    And I'll be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the lights
And in the middle of the night
    I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength
Of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade
    Of the shadows thrown
You may not trust the promises
    Of the change I'll show
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine
So love the one you hold
    And I'll be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the lights
So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
    To have and to hold
    A lover of the lights

Directed by - and starring - actor Idris Elba, the “Light” video tells the story of a blind man who literally leaves his disability at the door, ditching his cane and wandering out into the wide world. And though he’s sightless, he bravely dashes through a forest, sprints toward the edge of a cliff and lives his life unencumbered, for the first time. It is an incredibly powerful, moving thing, a clip meant to both inspire and empower … which is exactly what they were going for when they sat down with Elba to discuss the treatment. And even if the finished product has left some of their fans slightly bewildered, well, that’s perfectly fine with everyone involved.

Heard this song for the first time somewhere in my early 20’s. I’m in my mid 30’s now and I never forgot about it. I was briefly in college at the time and didn’t care much about what I was doing there other than to chase after women. I had quite a few at the time, but there was one I actually fell in love with who gave me hope to carry on with what was already a harsh life I lived. She’s long gone from my life now, as are all the others including the people i used to know. I’m not happy with life, but despite all the things I’ve been through since I still haven’t quite yet lost the will to give up

I love this video for the same reason everyone loves this video and song. But I wanted to put it into words.
The blind man seeking the light is only a part of this, and it is a metaphor for finding the courage to go on. I see this, but it's only part of it. I also see a man who wakes up expecting to be next to his love, but he is alone. He serves breakfast for two people, taking his time to prepare it just like he always has. During breakfast he indulges in a memory with his loved one which then flips to the end as an emotional bridge.
Ultimately this is about love, and loss and the memories left behind. A part of life we must all shoulder, but go on.
And it's portrayed beautifully, as the man suffering is blind, but we are not blind to his suffering. He finds the courage to step outside to seek the warm light, which is an allegory for running for his lost love and moving on.
The animal shots also symbolise a connection to nature and life.
It's all there, and we all know and we simply feel it. This is what makes this video so powerful.
At the end the man hasn't forgotten how to love, he feels it just as strongly as the first time. And he will go on.
    It's a celebration of life.

I had a comic idea many years ago while listening to this song about an artist getting inspired by a flicker in a lamp candle and painting what's essentially the love of his life. Throughout the song the being came alive and pulled from the canvas to transform the lonely studio around him into an incredible realm of nature the likes of which he'd never experienced. It only lasted for him a few minutes before he passed out and awoke in the same room with the painting, but with newfound glowing passion in his heart.
And on the note of this video, I absolutely love the intimate level of detail that's captured on the textures of his skin, the eyes, everything, it's sublime.

What I get when I watch this video. Obviously the man is blind. You see him dressing in a black suit which I think is for the funeral of his wife, he makes 2 breakfasts out of habit so that says shes recently passed away. He then changes his mind about going (his hand hovering on the white stick) & wants to kill himself to be with her. Hes planning on throwing himself off the cliff so hes running towards the light (song title) The deer you see is his wifes spirit looking after him, he is able to run a long way & through a forest without hurting himself, he actually stops in the forest & listens for the deer to guide him safely. As he gets to the edge you see the deer skidding to a stop and turn away just as the man does, his joy is him realising his wife will always be with him. I might be totally wrong but thats what I feel is the story behind this powerful & gorgeous song & video.
