Did anyone else well up with tears when the little girl pulled the ring off of her mother's finger? This is a beautiful, inspirational song...but I am so glad I didn't hear it until now. The pain still lingers...although it has dwindled. A year ago I couldn't have watched this without openly bawling. My heart and sympathies go out to those still in the midst of that sting of a divorce. With a child or children involved, there is simply no explanation of the devastating emotions one could convey without having been there. You think to yourself that nothing could possibly hurt you as bad as you're hurt when it happens until you see it in the eyes of your child and learn what its like to feel pain for someone else. The divorce is bad enough...but when you see your ex use the kids as a pawn...I'm sure those of you familiar with the scenario understand.
From the million love songs out there this is the only one that hits me hard. It's about unconditional love and how even if it hurts it's still better than nothing, and well, I'm a very cold person who has never loved that way and it makes me sad to think what I'm missing, and even if I wanted to I can't just love someone like that, I'd rather feel nothing than deal with the pain. I see many people here because they relate on loving someone who didn't love them back and all I can say is: Love is NOT a mistake, don't regret loving, love is the only thing that can make you grow, whether it brings you happiness or pain, just know life is all about ups and downs and nothing lasts forever, so if you're in a good place, cherish it, and if not, know it is not forever.
What I love about The Lumineers is they have a mystery tucked within every song. I've listened to their songs thousands of times, and I still pick up on a new hidden meaning or message every once in a while. The songs mold to fit everyone 's different lives and stories, which makes it fun to read how everyone interprets each one.
What you are talking about why I sometimes find one of my favorite bands to be inaccessible. That very mystery. For example "you've been on my mind ever since the flood" is nothing that I can actually relate to. What flood is he talking about? Lol. I often find his lyrics a little too ambiguous
@@eyebelieve3 I literally came to the comments to find if anyone felt the same. I was literally talking to a friend earlier today about this exact thing. I mean its probably the most cliche thing in the world but its the bad times the make the good times so good. I mean in that sense life is kind of like a game of poker. Sometimes in life you are delt a shitty hand, and sometimes you are delt a lucky hand. You know some people are just born with a shitty hand, and yah that sucks and feels terrible every time, but I promise your hand doesn't really matter. What matters is what you do with it. Sometimes you have to just know when to take the hit, other times you take what you have to learn. Trust me the more time you spending learning with yourself means you will be in the best position you possibly can be when the right hand is given to you. This isn't supposed to make life easy, but life would not be fun if it was easy (lol yes I am a walking cliche at this point), so while life is down just keep doing the best you can and I will do the same. I can't tell you when or where it will get better but it will.
i think it’s something about without negatives there aren’t positives in life so if there isn’t pain their isn’t comfort anymore. if you didn’t feel anything then you wouldn’t really be human and wouldn’t have positives in life
@@adrv5721 it's really better to feel pain. Most people who feel nothing at all anymore tends to end up commiting suicide or just give up on life (living day by day with no reason/purpose until the day they die. I'd rather feel pain than to be empty inside. Pain is a teacher to learn to open your heart again. It's up to you.
It *can* be. But too much pain can also drive you mad, and a lot of people end their lives because of it. In truth, I would rather people be numb until they are in a context (therapy, technological interventions, whatever) to handle the pain.
Lyrics: She'll lie and steal and cheat And beg you from her knees Make you think she means it this time She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair But I still love her, I don't really care When we were young Oh-oh, we did enough When it got cold Ooh-ooh, we bundled up I can't be told Ah-ah it can't be done It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all The opposite of love's indifference So pay attention now I'm standing on your porch screaming out And I won't leave until you come downstairs So keep your head up, keep your love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, keep your love And I don't blame you, dear For running like you did all these years I would do the same, you best believe And the highway signs say we're close But I don't read those things anymore I never trusted my own eyes When we were young Oh-oh, we did enough When it got cold Ooh-ooh, we bundled up I can't be told Ah-ah it can't be done So keep your head up, keep your love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, keep your love Head up, love Head up, love Head up, love Head up, love
Im from germany and i never really paid attention to the lyrics. I thought all those years that he was singing „july in steaming shoes“ at the very beginning. I was so sure that this song is about hiking in summer and doing outdoorsy stuff. I hear it all the time while watching hiking tiktoks
Even though it is now 2023, and the song is alreayd out for more than 10 years, I find myself consistently revisiting this song at least once every month, and I am confident that I will continue to do so for countless years ahead. There's something special about The Lumineers and specially this song 💕
@@kathrynmcganty8888 I listened to all their greatest hit songs last night with earpiece plugged to my ears. I felt at ease with so much peace listening to their songs while I slept off.
My mum would play this to me and cry, she was a single mum who went through a shitty time and it was really hard to take care of me.every so often I return to this song and have a good cry, and then hug my mum
i cant be the only one thats just randomly clicking on different songs from different bands that are recommended by youtube and just falling in love with evey single one of them
I first met my husband when I was a freshman in high school. He joined the Army when I was a jr. When I was a senior he broke up with me, because he was getting deployed to Afghanistan. I have never felt so much pain in my life. I was crying for a month straight. This song came up on the radio... my pain went away little by little everyday I listened to this song. It gave me hope again, after he got back from Afghanistan. I went off to college, and he drove from Texas to see me in North Dakota...he surprised me. He asked me to marry him. I said no at first, because I was so angry with him...but I stilled loved him.. 4 days later he asked me again, and I said yes. This song really is amazing!! It will never get old.
I cry practically everytime. 5 days after I was diagnosed with a type of cancer 2017 my ex husband abandoned me and my daughter in the middle of the night---I have full custody as well. Stay strong always❤
This song hits me so hard every time i hear it, it's just so hard to explain. I knew it basically since my school years, listening to The Lumineers briefly from time to time and simply moving on to other bands and genres. I came back to this band and this song after a terrible break-up caused by me, my problems and what I did to my then-girlfriend for about a year, a friend for about four. I listened to it time and time again throughout several months alone, working on myself, bettering my mental status and overall mental health that caused all the problems. A year passed, fate made us cross our paths and come closer again, heal our scars and become a pair once again. Nearly two years from then, I'm listening to the song in our house, we're a few months away from our wedding and expecting a baby. Coming back to such hard-hitting songs makes you realise how far you've come and how many struggles you endured because of - and for this stubborn love. Stay strong Friends. It will be better one day - if you believe it and work towards it, eventually it's gonna happen.
@@coolpilot5694 Thank You for asking, It's beautiful so far - the baby is adorable and absolutely in love with us, I spend almost all my time with my family after switching to remote work and I simply couldn't have dreamt for anything better than this - for real
It's sort of hard to imagine that everyone we encounter through life has lead an entire life just as we have. It's crazy to wonder what the real story behind the many eyes we look into might actually be. It's a beautiful life people. Despite our many flaws we still make it work. Love what you have while have it.
If the little girl had not smiled at the end, I would have cried the rest of the day..... It is the natural resilience of youth that makes us overcome problems as a child we could never cope with as an adult.
Who teaches you this shit? That is just utterly wrong. There is, in essence, zero difference between children and adults. Especially in their ability to comprehend and apply logic and emotion. Age is, literally, nothing but a number. And second of all, this is a fictional story, has nothing to do with reality. This type of dramatic shit doesn't happen, nothing you see on TV happens, not in the way it is portrayed, ever.
CntthnkO15 Except that there are big differences between children and adults especially in their ability to comprehend and apply logic and emotion. The brain doesn't fully develop until the early to mid 20's. Particularly the prefrontal cortex which controls judgement reasoning and impulse. Not to say that there aren't exceptions but age does have a littttle bit to do with it. And secondly yes, this is a story used by an artist to relate a certain emotion with a song. Does that make it unrealistically dramatic? No. The reason you feel real life isn't like television is because television shows us everything that is important to the plot line of the story. People in real life are too distracted by their daily lives and all of society to see what is truly important. They don't pick up on the important things thus they don't see the beauty.
Sorry folks, apparently I hit some bed rock here. Your answers simply show that I am right. While you obviously do not overcome your dicorce, your kids most ceratinly did. Ask them. they miss you less than you miss them. That,s resilience... Kids do have to have it, they wouldn't survive without....
Yes, and what's the point of advertising that shit? The combination of those colors and even the iron cross were abused heavily in WWII! So how can you advertise such crap? The only answer I have is, that you didn't think for one second.
lifelikeatob only answer you should get is I don't give a shit about your tiny triggered sjw ass say all the shit you want you're not pissing me off just yourself
I heard this song for the first time in 2015 when I was going through something very tough, which had me believe it's impossible to come out of it alive. This and a few more songs bring some very specific memories of that time when I was truly alone. These songs felt like warm hugs and long peaceful sleeps after one feels like one can do anything. My love for 'stubborn love' and these amazing artists is endless. I hope they're always happy and content wherever they are and will be. Their music bears great meaning to and impact on me and if I could create even a tinch of what they have, I will consider myself fortunate.

"It's better to feel pain than nothing at all; the opposite of LOVE is INDIFFERENCE". I have heard this song many, many times over the years (I've played it myself, I was a bartender for 10 years so others played it many times, I play it still obviously) and somehow missed that little truth nugget in amongst the pleasant melody. Love and hate are sister emotions, if you want to leave someone behind become indifferent. I know this doesn't suit well with everyone but forgive those who hurt you. Not for them, but for you. You forgive them yourself and they fade away.... it's a nice feeling.
Love and hate are opposite polarities of passion... positive passion = love, Negative passion = hate... think +100 to -100. Opposite of love OR hate is apathy/indifference... feeling zero.
welcome to the family, hanan!!. keep listening to them, to be honest all of their songs are masterpieces im sure you will like them, i wish i can delete my memory and relive the first time i heard them!! enjoy the ride!
I’m 21 years old and I’ve shed many tears listening to lumineers! Words help me get a lot off my chest, especially the tempos, really brings back good times
This song exactly represents what happened to me I was about 7 and my mom had taken me from my dad we left him in California and drove to Nevada, since I was young I didn’t understand what was going on. My parents would fight and then apologize one day my mom had enough.
@ I’m so sorry to hear that man, and I’m very glad a brother made it through! Remember those hard times because it builds a tuff character! Your built for this shit dude!
I lost a dear friend in the spring and finally came to understand the line, its better to feel pain, than nothing at all. Its better to have loved and lost than never known love at all. So the loss and the grief are okay because they mean I had the chance to experience something valuable to begin with
I believe this song is perfect for the numbness, apathy, and complacency that so many of us have fallen into for the past 5-10 years. So nostalgic yet timeless
So I used to think this song was about unrequited love. Basically loving someone but not being loved back but the more I listened to it I feel like it's about ones ability to keep loving after they have been hurt over and over again. So the song is about love itself and the journey to find it. True love is one of the hardest things to find in life if you find it you are definitely one of the lucky ones. some people never find it. the more love fails you the more apprehensive you are to love again. Maybe I'm wrong but it made more sense to me when I started thinking about it that way. Keep your head up y'all ❤❤❤
Yes exactly, people love each others but life is complicated as emotions and there are many problems on the way but we learn and grow as we go so we need to keep our heads up and believe that everything will be alright and fall in place. Forgiving and letting go
These songs have gotten me through so many hard time, just saw them perform last night and they never fail to empress. The vibes were immaculate, hands down the best concert i’ve ever been to!! The stars aligned last night.
This brings me back to third grade. My teacher would play this song in class a lot. I asked her for the name and I would listen to it like everyday. I listen to it now, and I just want to say, Ms.Bell If you see this, it's Batia. You were the best teacher I ever had. I hope your doing well
This video hits me in a different way. My Daughters mom pretty much just left in the middle of the night. Literally. The first thing I did after seeing all her stuff gone in the middle of the night, while I was at work; was to hug and cry with my daughter. I have been the single Mom/Dad for the past 4 years going on, since. I keep thinking and wondering if maybe I was way too lax in our relationship after 20+ years, or did too many wrong things. I never cheated, did drugs or whatever. Just had some real bad timing and luck go away. It's taken me years to start to climb out of a major depression about it all. So, a song like this relates in a different way. I've done everything in my power to keep HER "head up". Lets just say it's been a real struggle. - - - My head? - Idk if it'll ever be back "up". :-/
Someone who does that doesn't understand the concept of family. Its a covenant not a contract, you don't leave just because you're not getting your way. Just enjoy your Daughter, Im sure She can keep your head up!
True. I am trying very hard to keep her going and positive about it all. :-) ME? I'm the one who's really down on the hardships of trying to be the everything that she needs. :-/
mexicano99999 I do so does probably many people. Not everyone is as selfish and focused on their own personal sefl as much as you. To you Craig Smith. Keep your head up ma man! Life always has something new in store for us, you just gotta accept it :)
Hey Craig Smith going through pretty much the same shit. Theres others out there. Its rough I know. But be thankful you have a daughter, life can be tough but it is for a reason. You never know who may just walk into your life tommorow a year from now or even 5. Keep on going on man.

So many people would stumble around in darkness if it wasn't for such talented musicians , music that touches the soul will always be timeless , I'm glad I had the privilege to enjoy these rare talents 🫡
Huasteco09 I understand, I pity people who cause pain to others, I feel as though they are alone themselves and just want attention so that's the only way they can get it.
Ok, i have to be honest because i was scrolling threw nearly every commentsection of a Lumineers video and i just love how everybody is really honest and tell about their memorys and mistakes they made.
Same. I was searching up for a new years song to listen to and I was like oh yeah the lumineers songs are good then saw the comments and almost cried...😩
Having a daughter taught me the differences I had between my mother. When the mother looks back at her child at the end of this clip, it brought me back. How I forgot that initial bond. My own child reminded me of that loss and grief that comes with that process.
My children and I missed our Daddy. He left our beautiful world and went home to Heaven too young. He adds this song to our favorites. We always love to listen to all the songs and music he adds in our favorite channel here in youtube. 😇💕❤️💕😇
The Opposite of Love is not hate - it's Indifference. It is a mantra that is so true and it is something I've passed on to many. Do not let love escape....It leads to indifference.
congratulations! I love the lumineers for the lyrics that just hit home to so many people. "Leader of the Landslide" was written about his wife that was struggling with alcoholism but to me its a song written about my dad who died from his addiction. They are just amazing
I drove to London, Ontario…by myself to see these guys. They closed with this tune. I just remember watching this live and losing my mind for “it’s better to feel pain than nothing at all”. Ya, that’s a good moment in my life. Hope everyone here is okay with the shit you’re going through.
This song means so so much to me. I can't put into words the wholesome, warm feeling I get every time I hear it. This song feels like sunshine. "Keep your head up, love."
The fact that my mother (a teenage mother of me when her and my father were only 17) used to blast this song with me while we drove to or from goodwill and her mother’s house (where we lived) and it’s now the anthem of my life hits hard. She would always cry when it played and keep singing despite that, I always keep singing no matter how hard I cry when I hear this now. I love her, even if she had some extreme faults, she did her best, and she still does. Amazing young woman, and I’ll always love her no matter how much she’s hurt my heart❤
The Lumineers songs and videos tell such beautiful, heart-wrenching stories. So beautifully written, well-shot, edited, acted, and choreographed, and expertly intricately intertwined with one another. I would go so far as to venture that Stubborn Love is somehow part of the whole Sleep On The Floor/Angela/Ophelia narrative and that the Lums are just telling us one big epic poem. I would love that. Plus the fact that Neyla Pekarek is absolutely stunning.
I thank the universe for this song and healing video. We all feel lost sometimes, maybe most of the time, as the little girl we feel the fear of facing things that we don't know how to deal with, maybe sometimes bigger than us, and we can't chage, and we feel like wanting someone to take care of us, but as the little girl, just open the window that is blocking the air and the joy, the wind will relieve your pain and you're gonna be allright. Just keep your head up love.
I am confused by the comments I have read to this video lol... I don't think it has anything to do with beauty, or a mom and daughter... My opinion is that the interpretation of the song is that life changes (her mom and dad splitting), there are always bumps in the road (the car accident) but there are always people going through similar things and you are never alone (couple arguing)... if you just look out the window you will see amazing things though, from other people that is :) Keep your head up... Love is worth the risk and life is worth the hurt... We all are special and beautiful and it is a reminder of struggles and our triumphs through those struggles... Just my opinioin, at least...
It's a different view to all as song is a form of art and our experiences and trials in life shape our view of it so no one opinion or theorem is correct. there are infinitely many ways to interpret art.
Swagger Hound I, in no way, was saying others opinions were wrong or invalid, they just seemed confusing to me... And I completely agree with you, music is art and left for each to interpret as they wish... If my opinion offended you in any way, I sincerely apologize... hugs!
I am soo thankful for music like this. I'm late to this type of music as I used to listen to dance music. Today I have discovered the lumineers & Noah Clouds song "Love is not enough" Its been a good day.
The coolest revelation about this song is that there is only one woman in the car, and she's driving. Her younger self is in the back, and the handoff of her ring is the desire of the woman to return to that innocence she had as a young girl.
This song gives me a weird nostalgia feeling that makes me sad but also happy. It makes me remember when my parents split up from their toxic relationship. I will never get sick of this song. I never have and I never will.
"She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair. But I still love her i don't really care!!" Hits me everytime.. since we've had a kid which is out of reach from me now. Miss him every single day
Stay strong men. Showing your emotions means you are strong. Running from them is easier at first but not in the long run. That leads to drugs/alcohol to cover it up. Pay attention to your mind and then move on. Anything profound takes time any change. The girl that hurts the most to leave also felt the best to have for an equal amount of time.
Now that I am in my 60s and looking back at my life and all the countless mistakes I've made, the things I did and even worse didn't do. I've decided screw it I'm not going to waste a single second worrying about my fuckups, they are far too many of them and I can't do anything about a single one. I'm instead going to be who I am and take my life where I want it to go. If friends and family support me and most do great. If not so be it.
I think that's the way God always saw it to be anyways...If God was just one of us I feel he would feel the same in himself!!! CHEERS! Here's to the rest of life!!
"It's better to feel PAIN than nothing at all..." This line inspired me to write a letter to each of my 2 children who no longer speak to me. I know it won't change how they feel about me but maybe they will at least know I hurt for what I've done to them. PAIN is about all I feel most days but somehow (after the tears stop) this song lightens my heart enough to trudge on through another day...
We all make mistakes, I believe in you, I believe you're good and that you have what it takes to be better and stronger. But first be strong and better for yourself, and then you can be strong and better for your loved ones, that is a lesson that I'm just learning, and I hope you find a way of learning it too, if you didn't up to this moment. Much love ❤
My heart goes with you.., I'm in this situation now and it's cruel. The pain is hard... For sure. Not a day I won't cry a tear. People who not know this pain...? Truly don't know. Bless you. It's tough. 💐🌟💞 but your not alone. Truly. Please 🙏 have faith. I'm very old 58. It's been 25 years, I'm alive...but I lost my babies. Until you truly know details? You know zero.
my dad sent me this song a while back with no explanation really, but i always thought it was like he was talking to me or it reminded him of me. i cant describe the emotions this song makes me feel, but everytime i listen to it… it makes me cry.
My dad passed away December 2020, he was a fan of the Lumineers pretty early on. One thing I can remember him doing years earlier was sending me this music video and saying something along the lines of “no matter what happens I will always love you”. Of course being in my preteens I did not really think much of it. He and my mom did not have the best relationship but they tried for my sister and I. Almost two whole years since he has passed and I can’t even remember how long since that text message, but listening to this just fills me with this indescribable feeling. One that is painful and sends aches all over me, but slowly turns into a weird sense of comfort.
I feel like the music video explains itself : The little girl watches the progression of her parents relationship through the ride as each scene of strangers represents a stage that her parents went through, the car crash is the crash of their love, the end of it, the divorce. You can see she gets it, as she takes off her mothers ring, to set her free from the weight of a failed marriage, now she's the one carrying it. She just wants to understand and now that she did and that they're out of the city that is a metaphore for the past she is finally happy and ready to start again.
This song came up on my playlist while on a solo trip across the country. Was on a bus in a new city I have never been to. Listened to this song just walking around and exploring. It was the first time in a while I felt alive.
imagine how lumineers gave us opportunity to see such dramatic "series" by songs, every song - stubborn love, cleopatra, angela and etc. are combined into 1 story, thi is cozy, oh my god.
If I had to say.. It reminds me of my fleeting knowledge of what my mom used to look like. I don't remember her much now.. I just remembered she used to look beautiful.
+Chris L Go home and have a think about compassion. +Gary Sanders Keep that positive memory alive, never let it become a sad one. Life is far too short to be scorning over the 'what if's' and the 'could have's' and the 'but, I should have done's'... Stay awesome. Stay open minded. Stay intrigued. Never question why the mechanics of life design themselves in the way that they do, just watch it all and appreciate its beauty.
dear stranger, if you really feel the pain, don't be sad! just be happy that you experience the pain, be happy that the pain isn't great than yourself if the same amount of pain repeats, you can easily go through Be happy and enjoy the moment of your aliveness, more beautiful things and people are ahead! time will tell you, how much you deserve to be Happy! take care jimbae
There are just some songs, no one can describe. You feel something, you don’t know what it is. In my opinion there is no word to describe that feeling. It’s unique. It’s the feeling you get surrounded by friends. Maybe you know that feeling, I certainly don’t. It’s the beauty of music. All I know is… stubborn love is just like that. Something you can’t describe, but at the same time, has always been there. If you like this comment I know you’re a true lover of all things beautiful music. 🫡
I found this song when I needed to. ❤ This is a blessing in disguise. Just a reminder - Never stop loving just because someone didn't value it, loving someone so deep is a superpower, I believe.
"She'll lie and steal and cheat And beg you from her knees Make you thinks she means it this time She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair But I still love her, I don't really care When we were young Oh oh, we did enough When it got cold Ooh ooh, we bundled up I can't be told Ah ah it can't be done It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all The opposite of love's indifference So pay attention now I'm standing on your porch screaming out And I won't leave until you come downstairs So keep your head up, keep your love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, keep your love And I don't blame ya dear For running like you did, all these years I would do the same, your best believe And the highway signs say we're close But I don't read those things anymore I never trusted my own eyes When we were young Oh oh, we did enough When it got cold, Ooh ooh we bundled up I can't be told, Ah ah, can't be done Keep your head up, keep your love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, my love Keep your head up, keep your love Head up, love Head up, love Head up, love Head up, love"
Someone once said "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference." I asked that person "Then what's the opposite of hate?" She said "I asked myself that question a few times. Turns out the opposite of hate is forgiveness." I said "How?" She said "Indifference is when you don't care enough to love someone. Forgiveness is when you don't care enough to hate someone."
you put me in mind of The Avett Brothers song The Ballad of Love and Hate. I like your comment (it's given me something to think about)- I hope you listen to the song I recommended and also like it. cheers, g'night.
This music video, for me, is the best example you can find to describe what a song/video can be like, in a complete way. The sensations that the visuals provide is undeniably the same the song provides you. The feeling of discovering the unknown, the feeling behind going forward despite all your fears, the feeling behind starting something new. This is one of those very well produced clips where every time you listen to the song, you remember the music video and vice-versa... The perfect combination of sensations that how sound waves and visual frames can instigate you deeply.
I agree. There is still good music being made. You just have to have an open mind and give things a chance. It irritates me when I see comment sections saying 'today's music is shit' as if all decades didn't have their own shit music too. People just remember the 'good' stuff and forget about all the duds. Rose-coloured glasses.
The lyrics of this song is the story of my first love, 9 years of up and downs, then 6 years of darkness and hurt. It's been 15 years, i still love her but im finally free to walk my own path without her.
How do I keep my head up when I’m listening to this song thinking about when my mom and dad were married, living in the house I loved, everything falls apart, and here, 12.5.19 looking back at the life I missed having. Jesus Christ this is a good song and gives in great memories.
I've listened to this one so many times, but today's the first time I paid attention to the video. As a single mom doing the best I can for my baby, this song hit me right in the feels today. Thank you Lumineers ❤️
This video has two layers for me: 1. a mom and her daughter leaving the girl's father, and the two of them finding happiness, and 2. a woman leaving her old life behind and her inner child finally feeling safe and happy!
Dina Goodwin Yes the pulling the ring off her finger. mmm right in the heart.
I was wondering why she was pulling it off her right hand and not left tho
My parents are going through a divorce right now

@@johnnybronco9118you said it brother
Loved your comment.
too many onions...
If this is the way you think, then I don't think you're a very cold person at all. I hope you will love fiercely and be loved just as much in return.
I took a picture of this comment. Love how you worded it, and i think it's something maybe a lot of people should see. Thank you
:)
What I love about The Lumineers is they have a mystery tucked within every song. I've listened to their songs thousands of times, and I still pick up on a new hidden meaning or message every once in a while. The songs mold to fit everyone 's different lives and stories, which makes it fun to read how everyone interprets each one.
Beautiful, yea? As we grow older and experience more things in our lives, the meanings of their songs will change.
My name is Emily H! Hahaha
Agree 👍
What you are talking about why I sometimes find one of my favorite bands to be inaccessible. That very mystery. For example "you've been on my mind ever since the flood" is nothing that I can actually relate to. What flood is he talking about? Lol. I often find his lyrics a little too ambiguous
perfect

The beauty of this song is undeniable.
"It's better to feel pain then nothing at all." Such a powerful quote!
Assuming there would eventually be some type of balance, but right now I'd go for the nothing at all.
@@eyebelieve3 Indeed, nothing is much more preferable. Only a drama queen would think otherwise.
i think it’s something about without negatives there aren’t positives in life so if there isn’t pain their isn’t comfort anymore. if you didn’t feel anything then you wouldn’t really be human and wouldn’t have positives in life
Followed it up with another powerful quote “The opposite of love is indifference”
This song is special!
"It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all."
Those lyrics continue, after all these years, to remind me that I am alive, when I need it the most.
Molly Wilkins I think that’s the biggest crock of shit. I would much rather not feel pain like that.
As long as it's not continuous pain. That's what drives people to suicide.
It *can* be. But too much pain can also drive you mad, and a lot of people end their lives because of it. In truth, I would rather people be numb until they are in a context (therapy, technological interventions, whatever) to handle the pain.
“I'd rather feel pain than nothing at all”
― Three Days Grace, from the song "Pain", released in 2006. So much for originality.
Lyrics:
She'll lie and steal and cheat
And beg you from her knees
Make you think she means it this time
She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
But I still love her, I don't really care
When we were young
Oh-oh, we did enough
When it got cold
Ooh-ooh, we bundled up
I can't be told
Ah-ah it can't be done
It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all
The opposite of love's indifference
So pay attention now
I'm standing on your porch screaming out
And I won't leave until you come downstairs
So keep your head up, keep your love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, keep your love
And I don't blame you, dear
For running like you did all these years
I would do the same, you best believe
And the highway signs say we're close
But I don't read those things anymore
I never trusted my own eyes
When we were young
Oh-oh, we did enough
When it got cold
Ooh-ooh, we bundled up
I can't be told
Ah-ah it can't be done

The 90's and 00's were biblical, man! ❤
I really impress in your story.

And this little girl has emotional baggage to this day... just saying...
CntthnkO15 Exactly.
Still one of the best songs out there . 10 years later , killing it still !!!!!

I heard this song for the first time in 2015 when I was going through something very tough, which had me believe it's impossible to come out of it alive.
Well
Beautiful. I know some who needs to hear this comment!
I agree with that little message. Not everything that sounds pretty is true... But that is.
You think as though you are holding a grudge. Which is the opposite of "indifference". The only thing that achieves indifference is time.

Past 5 years i was a ten year old girl, and everything was allright. Now we are in 2020...

actually this is the only good song from the lumineers, the other songs are boring

I am trying very hard to keep her going and positive about it all. :-)

ILoveBender101 what good is pain if you feel it everyday
Tonito Guerra you could it have worse. I deal with pain when I see others who are suffering more than me. Put it in perspective...
God bless you and your family. I wish you all the best
The Opposite of Love is not hate - it's Indifference. It is a mantra that is so true and it is something I've passed on to many. Do not let love escape....It leads to indifference.
I have a tattoo that says "its better to feel pain than nothing at all" 3 years sober now=]
congrats friend! I know you can do it!
Brian B 🖤🦾
That's legit!

congratulations!
Amen melody🌞👍Life is good, keep your chin up and keep swinging🌎🕊💜🛐peace and love🌞👍
Yes, we bundle up. ❤

I have chills listening to it!
Growing up isn’t easy lol
The is adorable. This is sad. This is lovely.
“It’s better to feel pain than nothin at all..” the lyrics that make me SHIVER EVERY TIME
I thank the universe for this song and healing video.
Just my opinioin, at least...
you are amazing lol
😍Beautifully said
Ohhh this is so beautiful
Lucy Ren thank you
Lucy Ren thanks
Lucy Ren Noah Clouds has some great songs
Lucy Ren thanks baby
The coolest revelation about this song is that there is only one woman in the car, and she's driving. Her younger self is in the back, and the handoff of her ring is the desire of the woman to return to that innocence she had as a young girl.
Lost I totally see that now. I thought the mom was an older version of her but wasn’t sure!
Wow that's deep!
I’d love to smoke a joint with you

Umm... nope.
3:58 That smile is just so infectious I went straight from crying to smiling at how... theres no words
Honestly, the part of this song that sticks out to me the most is "the opposite of Love's indifference".
We turn a blind eye too often...
This song gives me a weird nostalgia feeling that makes me sad but also happy. It makes me remember when my parents split up from their toxic relationship. I will never get sick of this song. I never have and I never will.
same:(
Same here wtf so much in common
squid YES I remember I cried back when this song came out when I first heard it and saw the video. It brought out a lot of childhood trauma for me. 💔
My parents just separated so this hit hard
Same here😔
The emotions this song evokes here are palpable. I pray we all find those things we seek. Keep your head, my love ❤
It evokes emotions every single time I hear it.
"She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair. But I still love her i don't really care!!"
Hits me everytime.. since we've had a kid which is out of reach from me now.
Beta!
Fito Wei Wei seriously...aim for permanent committed relationships with loyal women or skip lol
What if she was never really mine
@@mrana2424 What does all that mean? Seriously...…. What da?
It’s not that easy yo
"It's better to feel pain, Than nothing at all"
Same as,
"Better to try and fail, than never try at all"
Now that I am in my 60s and looking back at my life and all the countless mistakes I've made, the things I did and even worse didn't do. I've decided screw it I'm not going to waste a single second worrying about my fuckups, they are far too many of them and I can't do anything about a single one. I'm instead going to be who I am and take my life where I want it to go. If friends and family support me and most do great. If not so be it.
Good on you. Supported
Great respect. Do what ever the fuck you wanna do, and screw the rest.
I think that's the way God always saw it to be anyways...If God was just one of us I feel he would feel the same in himself!!! CHEERS! Here's to the rest of life!!
❤️
Life is full of changes, some good, some painful; but it’s best to remember the good times the most and be thankful you got to experience them.
N some of the most painful times u actually become grateful for... it makes n breaks us. .
I really needed this right now buddy!! Thank you
"The opposite of Love is indifference" prefect quote for our ego driven, materialistic society.
You must struggling with a little mysanthropic frame of mind lol...don't panic it'll be ok
we truly do live in a society
I bet you think your ex is a narcissistic too
Could not have written a better sentence stranger!

STRANGER DANGER
"It's better to feel PAIN than nothing at all..." This line inspired me to write a letter to each of my 2 children who no longer speak to me. I know it won't change how they feel about me but maybe they will at least know I hurt for what I've done to them. PAIN is about all I feel most days but somehow (after the tears stop) this song lightens my heart enough to trudge on through another day...
Atleast you had the guts to finally write to them
If the opportunity for u to be in their live once again avails its self take it ✌🏽✨
We all make mistakes, I believe in you, I believe you're good and that you have what it takes to be better and stronger.
You musta really messed up. Live with your actions and accept their decision not to speak to you. Live with what you did.
Reminds me of the short story Sticks
my dad sent me this song a while back with no explanation really, but i always thought it was like he was talking to me or it reminded him of me. i cant describe the emotions this song makes me feel, but everytime i listen to it… it makes me cry.
God bless his sole 💜
❤
This is just such a beautiful comment. He will always be with you… ✨🖤
your comment is like poetry for my mind
These comments got me tearing up! I’m sorry for your loss, I hope you’re doing okay❤
I think you're spot on, man
So sad 😔💔
this is honestly one of the most beautiful music videos ever
gina petruzziello and yet all these pop songs are getting more attention
This song came up on my playlist while on a solo trip across the country. Was on a bus in a new city I have never been to. Listened to this song just walking around and exploring. It was the first time in a while I felt alive.
imagine how lumineers gave us opportunity to see such dramatic "series" by songs, every song - stubborn love, cleopatra, angela and etc. are combined into 1 story, thi is cozy, oh my god.
If I had to say..
It reminds me of my fleeting knowledge of what my mom used to look like. I don't remember her much now.. I just remembered she used to look beautiful.
Gary Sanders That is a beautiful comment. Not sure why but it hit me, made me tear up.

Obviously I butt texted. ...thanks
dear stranger,
if you really feel the pain,
don't be sad!
just be happy that you experience the pain,
be happy that the pain isn't great than yourself
if the same amount of pain repeats, you can easily go through
Be happy and enjoy the moment of your aliveness,
more beautiful things and people are ahead!
time will tell you, how much you deserve to be Happy!
take care

Thank you, i really needed these words
The movie ur profil pick from is a great one
Thanks for this stranger
Thank you
Thanks needed this
There are just some songs, no one can describe.
Someone hurt you arya?
God puts us where we are needed the most
"She'll lie and steal and cheat
And beg you from her knees
Make you thinks she means it this time
She'll tear a hole in you, the one you can't repair
But I still love her, I don't really care
When we were young
Oh oh, we did enough
When it got cold
Ooh ooh, we bundled up
I can't be told
Ah ah it can't be done
It's better to feel pain, than nothing at all
The opposite of love's indifference
So pay attention now
I'm standing on your porch screaming out
And I won't leave until you come downstairs
So keep your head up, keep your love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, keep your love
And I don't blame ya dear
For running like you did, all these years
I would do the same, your best believe
And the highway signs say we're close
But I don't read those things anymore
I never trusted my own eyes
When we were young
Oh oh, we did enough
When it got cold,
Ooh ooh we bundled up
I can't be told,
Ah ah, can't be done
Keep your head up, keep your love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, my love
Keep your head up, keep your love
Head up, love
Head up, love
Head up, love
Head up, love"
Everyday❤️
Thank you 😗
Head up, love! Wow!
You are a wonderful person to write it down for everyone! Thank you!
Cheers!
Much love from Switzerland
Someone once said "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."
I asked that person "Then what's the opposite of hate?"
She said "I asked myself that question a few times. Turns out the opposite of hate is forgiveness."
I said "How?"
She said "Indifference is when you don't care enough to love someone. Forgiveness is when you don't care enough to hate someone."
The opposite of love is fear 🥰
Amazing
you put me in mind of The Avett Brothers song The Ballad of Love and Hate. I like your comment (it's given me something to think about)- I hope you listen to the song I recommended and also like it. cheers, g'night.
👍
I think Gabe is the opposite of hate.
My heart sinks as soon as this song starts to play. So many memories. I'll always love you..
This song and video makes me smile with that all so welcome warm fuzzy feeling. That's why I love The Lumineers.
The perfect combination of sensations that how sound waves and visual frames can instigate you deeply.
people keep on saying today's music is like shit, but to me there are still good musics being made today. this one is an example.
Music are still great, the listeners nowadays don't.
i agree with you person with a good logic, even though there are more shitty song producers then good ones nowadays we just gotta be picky
I agree there is still good music being made, however grammar seems to be a thing of the past.
I personally don't like a majority of new music, but i can agree with you on this one
From one single mom to another...sending you love and positive energy from Zambia ❤
Single dad here. I have respect for all those single moms out there. Stay strong 💪
This video has two layers for me: 1. a mom and her daughter leaving the girl's father, and the two of them finding happiness, and 2. a woman leaving her old life behind and her inner child finally feeling safe and happy!
And both layers make me ugly cry
