Tony Martin is so good. He held the band together for five whole albums of pretty solid metal. Great singer...could do material well from any era of the band.
Hope we get all the Martin years albums on Spotify soon. I know a remastering is already in the works...

+Kevin Richards Rock the Stage NYC Tony Martin was very underrated in my opinion. I was nearing graduation from HS when this album came out, and remember being concerned that Sabbath was fading. I really think Martin helped keep them going into the future. Whether he's worthy of being compared to Dio is another matter, but he respectably held his own. Thanks for your comments, as well. Shalom. :)

Rat Salad I know why... (and I like him too)... but... Tony's performance in live concerts is not cool than in studio... If you listen to Dio, he's performance in live is the same as the recorded one (sorry, my english is terrible haha)..

    • @whatdidyousay1455
      @whatdidyousay1455 9 років тому +4

Pablo Neutrino I think that sounds reasonable, but I still think that Tony performs well LIVE too. Every singer have their unique style of singing. Ozzy, Dio, Tony, Ian... you name it! I think thats one of the main reasons I like Tony becouse he looks so humble and understanding.. He's not trying to bitch and be a wannabe little prick even if he's the singer of Black Sabbath. He is just himself, just like Iommi.

    • @SpyZ86
      @SpyZ86 9 років тому +1

Ben Dover I think there are two reasons for that. The first is that Tony was the man behind the mic at the (not as horrible as made to be) Forbidden album that practically ended Sabbath (before reuniting with Ozzy) even though it was not his fault. The second is that, to many people, Sabbath had a weird sound shift with Martin. They didn't sound like Sabbath. Personally, I think the albums with him were pretty solid and loved the lyrical aspect of the music but they are nowhere close to iconic sound they forged in their early days and imo Martin sounds a bit too close to all the poser/glam/hair rock singers that sprouted around the late 80s and early 90s.

    • @joeblog2672
      @joeblog2672 Рік тому

A lot of good music from this era with a respectable singer up front. Underrated? Perhaps but the TM era still takes a back seat to the rest of Sabbath (unless you count the Glen Hughes "Seventh Star" disaster album - which was supposed to be an Iomi solo album). Ian Gillan's "Born Again" album is Black Sabbath's most underrated album / era of all, even though appreciation for it has grown over the years. That one beats out a couple of Ozzy's and maybe "Heaven and Hell" from Dio IMO.

When Tony hit that “ sweet spot” In his vocal range- especially on the choruses of tracks like “Kill In The Spirit World” “Headless Cross” “Jerusalem” and the bridge riff into the guitar solo of this track he was really on a level all his own!
he never gets talked about but was one of sabbaths best vocalists - I honestly like all of them except for Ian Gillian- Tony seemed to compose Sabbath to best fit the vocalist they had- and a lot of the Martin era suffers from a lack of the heavy riffs that are all over Dehumanizer and Mob Rules. Had Tony kept the intensity a little higher, I think we would talk about the Martin era MUCH MUCH more.
Anyway- BLACK SABBATH FOR FUCKING EVER THANKS FOR SHARING I LOVE YOU + NEVER SEEN THIS CLIP BEFORE

***** I do like this version, don't get me wrong - I still remember hearing it in a bar in Peru for the first time! But when I heard the demos with Gillen I prefer the way he sings it: more open, more sustained notes. Probably minor details.
I think Tony Martin only had about a week to do the vocals for the whole album after Gillen left/was fired, so he did very well.
I also love Bob Daisley's bass lines - he played all the bass, but only as a session player.

There's a man who sees all there is to see
What the future holds for all
As the days grow dark, was his sole and final warning
Beware of the one with invisible friends
They will steal into your mind
And all too soon, the signs begin to show
    Rise up to the shining
    Live long live now
    Rise up to the shining
Don't be blind by fools again... fools again
As the page is turned and the story's told
From the visions he had seen
The house on the hill with the haunting eyes that call
No one left when madness came out
    To play its game
If you stay too long, you'll finally go insane
    Rise up to the shining
    Live long live now
    Rise up to the shining
Don't be blind by fools again... fools again
    Bells will take their toll
    On your way
There's no way we're born to shine
Before our time, all your life, you're
    On your own
    Lonely road
    Lost in a time
Let the light lead your way
    To the golden throne
    It's the only way
    Rise up to the shining
    Live long live now
    Rise up to the shining
Don't be blind by fools again
    Rise up to the shining
    Love long live now
    Rise up to the shining
Don't be blind by fools again

Wise up they're gonna steal your mind
Rise up, the house is gonna haunt you

As far as I'm concerned, if Tony Iommi is playing guitar here, then it is Black Sabbath. Also, Tony Martin totally fits the band. I hope Iommi and Martin can work together again on some new songs.

@@retdsas1472 I can agree that's the best lineup and most iconic but they last few Ozzy albums (especially Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die!) pale in comparison to the likes of Heaven and Hell and Headless Cross. That's like trying to say AC/DC wasn't AC/DC once Bon Scott died when we all know that just isn't true.

I read a recent interview where Tony Martin mentions that Iommi told him they can’t do anything under the Sabbath name, maybe there is time for them to make something happen similar to HEAVEN AND HELL.
What would be the name of that band?
Eternal Idol??? Headless Cross??? When Death Calls?

The song, in my favorites in Sabbath's catalogue. Thank god, i heard the full version of this song and not the shortened which appears in the clip. Its worth listening....

I love how everyone's perfectly OK with, say, Ozzy writing radio-friendly songs in his solo career, but when Sabbath does it everyone loses their minds. Face it, they just couldn't keep repeating themselves over and over again (as they've, sadly, done on 13), they had to get creative. And if you open your mind, you'll see the quality in this kind of metal as well. I know that some of the Sabbath fans are the most closed-minded people in the history of music, but still...

Agreed... This is actually my favorite Sabbath song, I even love Ray Gillems version. I just love the sound. If people would really listen to it and realize it came from the same place that all their "classic" Sabbath came from they could appreciate it. I tend to gravitate toward the melodic.
