On a cold winters night, in my Doc's, in my gray surplus army trench coat, in my youth...I remember an old mix tape playing on my walkman, one that I spent hours doodling on, I remember the Sisters of Mercy and I remember how this song felt to me at that time. I understood that at least, in high school, this music was too far out there to be popular, but that only made it all together more special. When I met someone who had Sisters of mERCY, scribbled on a canvas backpack or on a pencil case, it felt as if I was home.
Grey Herringbone Coat, Baggy black ankle tight trousers, Suede boots and chains, back combed black spikey hair, mascara, eyeliner, lippy and a gorgeous goth gal by my side at The Underground in Croydon, that was my vibe in 85! Wow such a time!
I just discovered that this song has been covered a couple of times. I went and had a little listen.I had to come here to cleanse my ears. The sisters do it by far the best.
This is the most incredible song to run to. Started to flatline during the London Marathon, put this on and it gave me the energy to finish. Forever grateful.
The strings do sound convincing -presume good synth -MSO are sluts for rock bands.(no one really wants to hear more than one or two classics -music never stopped) would love to hear a collaboration.
I do agree to some extent. This album was indeed great. However, the "old" Sisters of Mercy was greater with tunes like Mariane and Emma. At the time the songs were raw and pure.
Totally agree. This Corrosion was kick ass for same reason, the back up vocals...so glad to see this extended version of the video...when it came out the song was cut short for time when played on the radio and the video was condensed too
One of the best songs of all time. What a drive and tension from the first to the last second. Topped by the eruption:"I want more!" Unmatched. I love a lot of songs, mostly HipHop, WuTang, Nas, Mobb Deep, but this song is an absolute masterpiece.
Used to love this back in the day. 30 years later still love it - what a band. Great guitars - great backing vocals and remember hearing it in a few clubs in Liverpool back in the 90s. Superb x

I have no idea why this band after all these years still give me the shivers and i'm drawn back to those days at Leeds University standing on the shoulders of shoulders and upwards and on and on ...........Fuck me they still deliver.........
The first song i ever heard by sisters of mercy back when it was played on top of the pops in 1990 brillaint tune. Since then I got really into them and saw them in concert 10 yrs ago. Theres so many good tunes by this band really don't know which is my favourite
Im here from the penguin. This song rung in my head an had to find it. 52 an i was 18 or 19 when i heard this song back in the day. Jams back then rocked.
To any young university student being introduced into the music scene in the 1980's and early 90's. One basic premise to learn and understand is that ... The Sisters of Mercy are to be listened to, be absorbed...they are the anchor of the genre. It's after punk's demise, but the music is still very individual, hanging on to punk's shortened measures, with strong riffs, without a hint of apologizing. The Sisters are masters of making anyone feel at ease with post-punk rock. Just never ask them to say they are sorry.
I'm 58 and still enjoy this song since I've heard it for the first time. You're never to old to listen to some f*cking good music.

@@adamhicks4067 you were very lucky! There were very few goths and no goth clubs here in the US back in those days. At least, I never heard of any.
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: ua-cam.com/video/zBwt2psj20Q/v-deo.html Very well done!
Completely off topic and random but hearing this music and seeing the words trench coat remind me of The Matrix for some reason. Lol.
Memories to Hamburg, Grünspan, in the 80s are rising. Dancing like hell to this..What a great time that was... Thanks
Die guren alten Zeiten 😎
I just discovered that this song has been covered a couple of times. I went and had a little listen.I had to come here to cleanse my ears. The sisters do it by far the best.
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE.
Can we please talk about the last 2 minutes of this song ? absolutely greatness !
Sure
It is a Great hiimn for those who can here them. I apsolutno ador it,and its written in my blood
One of the best songs ever that stands the test of time. " Leaning to cry for fun and profit, I'm not done yet"
Great line, Eldritch was a cut above with his lyrics.
@@punkoid76 Rock On Brother!!
@@punkoid76 Love him, or hate him. A musical genius.
This is the most incredible song to run to. Started to flatline during the London Marathon, put this on and it gave me the energy to finish. Forever grateful.
Truly a spiritual moving song about wanting and needing all the love you can get. Always wanting More. Love is a Drug !
Super pesma !Uvek sam igrala uz ovu pesmu 90' !!!Skoro filmska atmosfera, sexi, nabijena emocijama I nekim tajanstvenim velom...I energijom.
Ko se ne zaljubi na prvu u ovu pjesmu..žali Bože potrošenog života.
Nešto novo i ljepo dolazi...
The backing vocals really make this a really great original song. Not to mention the amazing string synths.
This Corrosion was kick ass for same reason, the back up vocals...so glad to see this extended version of the video...when it came out the song was cut short for time when played on the radio and the video was condensed too
You forgot great guitar riffs!
Steinman use his Pandora's Box girl band for this - vocalists with names like Deliria Wild... God bless you, Jim.
Supreme Eldritch, surreal background vocals❤️ This song still occupies my mind. So deep, so wrecking, so poetic. LOVE IT!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ich bin 62 Jahre, ich raste immer noch aus und wenn ich höre,bin ich am heulen!!!Unendlicher Dank,Systems of
❤30 years ago I heard it for the first time and it blew me away. Still does.
He shredded so hard on this song last night he broke his string! He then gave it to me after the show! Freakin awesome people! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
I'm a rocket and I'm 63, I listen to this in 1977 and m still rocking hard....I need more and I can't get enough....
One of the best songs of all time. What a drive and tension from the first to the last second. Topped by the eruption:"I want more!" Unmatched. I love a lot of songs, mostly HipHop, WuTang, Nas, Mobb Deep, but this song is an absolute masterpiece.
This song is for everyone who can still love in this loveless world.
When the extended version of an obscure 80s goth song gets 14m views, I wonder if I merely underestimated this song's obscurity
Some people get high with a little understanding
@@joeynarviz8429 I WANT MORE!!!!
They were never obscure, nightclub rock nights played SOM to death in the 80’s and 90’s
@@joeynarviz8429boom tish
OBSCURE !! Everything has been here before ??!! Xxx
Used to love this back in the day. 30 years later still love it - what a band. Great guitars - great backing vocals and remember hearing it in a few clubs in Liverpool back in the 90s. Superb x
This corrosion 💀
I first heard of SOM in 1991, and their concert in Wroclaw Poland was the first ever concert I have been to as 15 yo kid. love this till now!
Yes yes yes and yes. Sisters of Mercy are something else , thank you
This song should be at least 1 hour long.
5 h better !
Music just doesn't have this edge ANYMORE. This was a track I forgotten about, now I can't stop playing it
Dave Harvey Do you know Sevdaliza? It's not as hard as this but it has some edge, although a different kind. Check her out if you feel like it.
Their album Floodland was their best. This Corrosion is AWESOME too :)
Same here!
59, and I was in my Teens when The Sisters of Mercy were part of the scene...glorious. Still going...
Discovered SOM in 1988 and never looked back. No voice or sound compares to this...not now or ever.
Get away from this neopaganism and ferocious occultism!

This was the first song I heard by sisters of mercy way back in the day. Very few people were playing this in the clubs. I played it every weekend had packed floor Everytime. It gets even better with time
I played this so much I got my kids loving it. They call it a banger
It is...

I have been listening to them my whole life. My Brother introduced me to them as soon as was old enough to recognize what music was and I have been listening to them since just 2 years shy of 50
Back in the day I was living in Mexico City and it was very hard to find bands like this, yet we did and our lives were better because of that, I salute you #sistersofmercy so many memories, saw them yesterday at the kings theater in Brooklyn and it was epic like it was 40 years ago
I have no idea why this band after all these years still give me the shivers and i'm drawn back to those days at Leeds University standing on the shoulders of shoulders and upwards and on and on ...........Fuck me they still deliver.........
True
Oh,diesen Song liebe ich noch immer...❤❤❤❤
Fabulous number 👍 keep Rocking guys 👏
The first song i ever heard by sisters of mercy back when it was played on top of the pops in 1990 brillaint tune. Since then I got really into them and saw them in concert 10 yrs ago. Theres so many good tunes by this band really don't know which is my favourite
A great tune from a great time in my life. I love this song!!!
this is why Martin Luther was declared Feiertag in Germany?!
One of the greatest bands of all time.I bought the excellent First And Last And Always cassette when it first came out.All their songs songs rule.
Im here from the penguin. This song rung in my head an had to find it. 52 an i was 18 or 19 when i heard this song back in the day. Jams back then rocked.
I forgot about this song until I saw a movie begining with this theme today... I feel like I've heard it for the first time! Amazing!
I love writing poetry but I also appreciate the most intelligent person in the room that knows when to open their mouth whenever they're spoken to.
I want more ! I'm already 77 and i still enjoy this song and also that Masterpice Tempel of Love with the best Female Voice of Ofra Haza ! Rip Ofra !
Killer Tune! Can play this over & over never get tired of it!
