Don’t we all learn that skincare isn’t just about treating your skin but also preventing skin inflammation? She’s all about treating your skin “safely” with 0% irritation and she already mentioned it so many times in her videos. Her opinions on glycolic acid is completely understandable and valid since they were all based off of scientific evidence and research that she has done on her own specifically for skin of colour. I just don’t get it why would a lot of people come for her. We love your prudence Dr. V 💕

The question is why do we glycolic avid while we have other boys to do the job. Of course glycolic acid is not an evil. But Dr V is trying to lead us through the 0% irritation thing guys. Ma personal take on it is that if u r a person of skin of color n using glycolic acid n getting results without 0 irritation then go on. These videos remind us of other better options too. For those who r starting to play with AHA try mandelic or lactic acids.

I know for others they probably don’t see what’s the big deal just apply sunscreen and call it a day. But if you live in a hot climate area like Latin America , Africa and also lack access to great sunscreen, it does beg the questions if it’s worth using acids . Having to apply sunscreen religiously to avoid the side effect of acid doesn’t for some seem unreasonable, especially if you live in places like Latin America and Africa where you always outside all the time. I can speak for myself here having family that live in Honduras and Mexico.
Compare If your someone that live in the States, then of course you have easier access to the good stuff, even though the sunscreen from the States suck, at least having access for sunscreen from Asia’ and Europe won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
That’s what is always missing from this scientific studies. It doesn’t take consideration the environment the person lives, the lifestyle and culture etc
It doesn’t keep in mind that a lot of people of color live in hot climate areas and condition. They deal with the sun on the regular, so for you to tell them the best way to mitigate the risk is to wear sun screen and apply it religiously seems counterintuitive
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying individuals that live in such climate or conditions shouldn’t wear sunscreen. All I’m saying we have to do better at better formulating products to mitigate the risk, I don’t think that’s asking for too much.

Thanks for your reply and update on this, glad to hear this will be reformulated. I did also purchase 4 pharmaclinix products recently...and was disappointed to find out they have parfum in them!! It was not listed on the website ingredients, when I bought them online though but it did say this on the box.... I'm not an expert in ingredients but parfum is the easiest to recognise, I'm now concerned what else might be in there that is not suitable for skin of colour.
Although I appreciate you aren't in control of everything, I did only hear about pharmaclinix because of you and your family connections and because of watching your videos I purchased the products because of my trust in you. I think it would be really helpful if you could make a video about the pharmaclinix products and which ones you recommend or what is being reformulated, as I'm sure alot of people like me have bought their products due to trusting you, but it is contradictory to find out the products go against what you normally recommend for the same reasons you have suggested to not purchase some products from other brands....such as not using products with parfum due to contact dermatitis or high glycolic acid
Yet these products are STILL being marketed towards skin of colour, despite risking pigmentation, and also a lot of the marketing is towards "fairness" and "skin whitening" which is already a big problem in alot of Asian and African cultures and preying on alot of insecurities.
Not blaming you personally but as someone with a platform and your influence on people and mentioning your family's brand/labs in your videos, I do feel this needs to be addressed.
I have been waiting for you to release products such as the dark circles kit and elbows and knees kit, but given I'm disappointed with the pharmaclinix products I have already purchased, I am now hesitant about buying and new products you come out with.

I feel like people don’t realise how much a difference having clinical experience, as well as being a cosmetics formulator as well as conducting your trials, as well as having experience of melesma yourself makes to the quality of advice you give. It takes years to get that point and standard in a field, but it really comes across in the work you do. I work as a physio and have a sports science degree as well,as working in research, sports coaching and having been an athlete myself. I feel the same way about the fitness industry and everything I see 🙈🙈. Please could you do a video on pitted/ice pick acne scars and how to get rid of them? They’re a nightmare to get rid of. Is microneedling/dermabrasion/mesotherapy etc safe for us? And peels wise...can mandelic acid peel be used to get rid of pitted scars too instead of the other peels out there? I had a pxr-t33 treatment done and I swear it made the pigmentation on my neck worse 🙈. Thank you in advance. Keep up the great work ;)

I use glycolic acid regularly. However, the percentage is very low and doesn't make my skin "peel." I was very careful, testing a so-called peel product before putting it on my face. I've had great results using several types i.e. pads, treatment duos, with no problems, ( side effects) at all. I think it's important to test any product before using it on the face to avoid burning, peeling, or other problems that will cause hyperpigmentation. I love it, and have had nothing but great results from using it.

This is just my opinion - but i think that hyaluronic acid is something you can wear at anytime, as long as youre making sure that the humectant isn't gonna steal water from your skin.... So like layering an water based moisturiser (with occlusives and emollients) on top of your hyaluronic acid, making sure that your environment is not dry (so maybe dont wear HA in winters, or when you're using AC/Heating...or get a humidifier!)
I hope this has been helpful

1:39-1:50 isn't it then a thing of beauty that you are on nobody's payroll including sponsorships and that you come from a place of study, science and research?! I know that that makes the case for me so they can keep screaming their anger, we are now awake and doing our own research thanks to you. Keep going and speaking up Dr. V

This caucasian dermatologist recommended that I should use 15% of glycolic acid, and I asked "her isn't that too much for a skin of color?" she said "no, you should be fine, it's just a myth" I bought it, it was so expensive and it caused me so much irration for two weeks straight, and I had to stop using it. After that my hyperpigmentation got even darker than ever. Seriously don't use it, especially if you have sensitive skin, it will harm your skin. However, there are well educated caucasian dermatologists who agrees that glycolic acid can be problematic for skin of color, such as, Dr Dray, her and Dr V and Alexis Stephen are my heroines when it comes to skin care.

I have used a glycolic acid cleanser occasionally. Super drying but no pigmentation issues. Serums with low percentage glycolic are also fine. But I’m happy to know about alternatives that are less risky. Because sure enough, I do have pigmentation issues when things burn my face. Just hasn’t happened with glycolic yet.

I’ could cry ! I’ve been using this all wrong 😭😭! Luckily I haven’t had too much damage, but no more glycolic for me 😭!

I used glycolic acid last end of june i used it once a week only but then it burnt my skin on my face.. now it leaves my skin a dark spots/pigmentation around my mouth area . i really regret using it.. thanks for this honest review. Now we have a broad knowledge about choosing which exfoliating acid should we try to use next time.. lesson learned (not all skincare/exfoliating products works for everyone just be careful in choosing)

I love your videos and definitely have changed how I how I buy skincare products: I look at the ingredients, I see the formulations, then I purchase. To note: I have light olive-tone skin. I think your videos are really amazing for both skin of color and people who are lighter skin. Thanks. The industry is only mad because the formulation is only meant to get them more sales- there's no thought behind it.
