Glycolic Acid as a deodorant and hyperpigmentation hack?

  • Underarm hyperpigmentation and alternatives to deodorants are common concerns. I'm discussing glycolic acid as a potential deodorant and hyperpigmentation hack. Glycolic acid is a chemical exfoliant that has been used for years to treat acne and other skin conditions. Is glycolic acid a viable alternative to your current deodorant? I explore this question and more in this video.
    There are many misconceptions and unanswered questions about chemical exfoliants and chemical peels. I will be answering all of the commonly asked questions across my social platforms. Starting with is glycolic acid safe to use as a deodorant? This one came from the now viral hastag glycoicacidasdeodorant that has over 13.6 million views.
    Check out some of the other video’s in the chemical peel

    Growing up my mom told me that…that bacteria is what caused the odor not the sweat, and it has stuck with me all these years. She told me it one day I was working at an internship but forgot to put on deodorant and I smelled horrible. She told me to wash my armpits with the soap in the bathroom and periodically use hand sanitizer at my desk to kill the bacteria and sure enough, it worked! Gonna try glycolic acid but maybe once or twice a week max

      Try Panoxyl! Or any other 5% or lower benzoyl peroxide wash because of it's antimicrobial properties. I love it for the acne/eczema prone on my face as an occasional wash, but also as an underarm wash. I tried it out after a few years of trying out natural deodorants. A certain brand I used had BAKING SODA that didn't help with the odor from sweat, sweat production, and actually DARKENED my underarms. Benzoyl Peroxide helped with the odor and bringing my underarms back to how it was before along with using Almay's fragrance free aluminum antiperspirant gel.

    • @sumlem
      @sumlem Рік тому +6

      @@anahnnemus5187 you're referring to triclosan, which has limited human studies data as of this time. So far, research has been on on lab animals, such as rats who have been exposed to, injected, or force fed large amounts of triclosan. Considering that it wasn't included in the FDA's 2019 ruling of ingredients to be removed or barred from consumer hand sanitizers, it should note that it isn't significantly causing active harm. I'm using the word "significant" in the scientific context of being quantitative above a certain numerical threshold.
      Consumer products containing triclosan actually are prohibited from being marketed without premarket approval, not for it's possible endocrine disruptive properties, but to avoid risk of antibiotic resistance. There is ongoing review, but given there is limited understanding to HOW endocrine disruptors in personal care products can affect the human body, it's not something to be frantically avoiding.
      This is based on my understanding on how certain ingredients in personal care products can be absorbed into the skin and likely later be found in the blood stream/glands/stored in fat... Bottom line line is that dosage and exposure play a big part in how something can affect the body. Considering that consumer products are constantly under review in which new standards are set to improve safety, you'd have to be living in vats of hand sanitizer for it to be a concern

    I use to use deodorant for sensitive skin until it started irritating my skin. It had my skin itching so bad until I had to do something to get some relief. I used some Gold bond ointment and it done wonders. No more itching or irritating skin. Also no odor after sweating.

    My reg is the Kosas sport Chemistry AHA Serum Deodorant. Works really well with stopping odor. Doesn’t stop sweat which I’m fine with that because I don’t sweat super heavy under my arms anyway.

    Great video and very informative! I like to do a week on/week off with the glycolic acid. I find it even carries over a bit into the week off and keeps me fresher than without for a while. When my pits return to normal and start to act up again, it’s already time for my week on. Otherwise, when I’m eating really clean (no meat, dairy, low sugar), I pretty much only use the glycolic toner before a super long/hot day or a hard workout.

    Thanks for this video. When I switched to natural deodorant years ago my underarms became very irritated and dark from rashes. I couldn’t figure it out. Thought it was from shaving. I eventually found out it was the baking soda in my deodorant. I switched to a brand called Honestly Phresh and the irritation cleared up. Now I use Raw Sugar brand which is more expensive but I can’t find Phresh in the store anymore. The hyperpigmentation eventually cleared up from exfoliating.

    I’ve been using the ordinary glycolic acid on my armpits almost every day, some days I don’t, and I haven’t had much irritation (unless I’ve shaved). It’s really helped with odor. I just rub it on with a cottonball after my shower. Gonna try the benzoyl peroxide if it’s cheaper.

    Thanks for the info. I sweat profusely under my arms. And I’m trying to stay away from Aluminum based products. I can sacrifice the sweating for increased risk of breast cancer… And I’m allergic to baking soda. I’ve tried so many “natural” deodorant without baking soda. None work. So I’ll definitely try the Saltair deodorant and hopefully it’ll help.

I've been using different body exfoliator, and I use Body Brave and spray it under my arms lightly (every other night) chest, back (body acne) and the top of my bikini line. It has helped so much with my body acne and under arm odor. My under arms have lightened tremendously. I have pcos and had terrible body acne on my chest and and back. Always love your videos and I will try your recommendations.
