Dr Rattan, I have literally watched 90% of all of your videos in the last 5 days. You are a lifesaver to me! I am of African descent, 61 years of age with combination normal to dry skin. I suffer with hyperpigmentation that became very apparent to me about 6years ago and has been getting worst until about 4 years ago when I was introduced to sunscreen. The darkness slowed down with sunscreen and anti aging routine. Thanks to you, I definitely have a much greater understanding of how to use my skincare products. I will be purchasing you sunglasses too. Thank you so much for everything you shared about inflammation, sunscreens and skincare routines. I will check back with you with my 30 day results! This was a great video, full of analogies that allowed me to visualize the science behind it. Thank you!! I’ll check out your other videos. When I got diagnosed with HSV 2 it was hell for me, had the worst days, Mental breakdown, crying not eating or sleeping either. I was restless looking for alternatives to get rid of this virus in my system. not until I stumbled upon a video on UA-cam about Dr. Aloha’s Herbal Medication and how effective they are. I reached out to him through his email: Alohaherbalhome@gmail.com and followed the instructions given on how to use the Herbal Medication, To my greatest surprise, it worked perfectly and today makes it a month and two weeks of testing Negative to HSV 2 after making use of his Organic Herbal Medication. I was so excited to try this routine! I went out to purchase everything except the cleanser and the Vit C. Let me just say my face was very happy until I applied the Azelaic Acid on top of the Granactive Retinoid with 5%, my face almost set fire!! I had to wash it off immediately! I went to the ordinary site, and it says "not" to apply the Granactive Retinoid with any of their direct acids and Azelaic was one of them! I will try again without it!! That was my worst experience. I do see there is another video that seems to be an updated version that does not include the Granactive Retinoid, wish I would have seen it first. Hopefully this helps someone else just joining.
Hi I did the same and now my face is irritated from the last product mentioned as well. I can see it works but it’s irritating and I thought the whole point of her teaching was to not irritate skin of color.
I am a GP and this is the first time I watched your youtube. I have been searching for a few years on how to treat my facial hyperpigmentation spots due to exposure to Austalian sun for >40 years.I am now aged 64. This happened in my 40s not earlier & there is no family history. I want to commend you on such an informative video which makes a lot of sense. I also want to commend you for all the research you have done on products in this case the Ordinary.I am sure you were motivated because you have the same problem. I will watch more of your videos to see which I can try formy particular problem. Thank you again for clear no nonsense advice.
I have bought so many ordinary products and always felt overwhelmed on how to layer I have hyperpigmentation you’re amazing how you explain every ingredient! I’m a fan so glad I found you!!!!
Dr. V, you are just heaven sent! You’ve helped me SO much. I made some changes in my skincare routine after binge watching your videos and in less than two weeks I’m already seeing improvement in my melasma condition. Thank you so much for being so generous and caring to do this for us.
Thank you thank you thank you! I have learned so much in this one episode than I have in the past few years of chasing treatments for my hyperpigmentation. I'm of Indian origin and 72 yrs. Have subscribed.
I am Caucasian but have naturally black hair and dark olive skin that tans and doesn't burn. I have skipped your videos when they have popped up as recommendations before bc I'm not of color. I clicked this video just bc I'm fighting major pigmentation issues that whole every scratch every mosquito bite leaves a dark spot is the story of my life. Now I realize this is the channel I should have been following all along as a lot of the recommendations for Caucasian skin don't work for me. Glad I decided to give it a shot. I started using this routine 5 days ago and my pigmentation is already starting to fade in two spots. I love your videos, the pictures and full explanations are so helpful also. I really appreciate your channel. It's obvious you put a lot of time effort and research into your content. Thank you.
On your last questions: 1) YES, you’re doing a phenomenal job with your content. I’m cutting off glycolic acid after I’m through with this cleanser because of your advice. 2) Watching from the US
Glycolic acid broke me out so bad I dint know it was the culprit I started cutting out products one after the other until I watched DR. V, I stopped immediately cause I dont wanna waste it I use it for my underarms and when its finished I am not buying it
Starts video saying she is a channel dedicated to women of color’s skincare and this video is about hyperpigmentation.... ME: *Subscribes immediately.*
Finally, a specialist qualified in this subject! The only doc to listen to for skin of colour! Yes! This is spot on for my remedy! Thank you so much Best Regards
I am mind blown by the quality of the content you are putting out. I am elated at having found you. Thank you so much for all the hard work behind this.
@@psoni2035 update please ? Every night? Also what was your vitamin C alternative. First night I've used only nicinamide will alternate with vitamin C Regina, since jt skin is a bit sensitive for now
@@SA-nx6cr Hi there 😊 well I've used all the products except Vit C... however I found this routine a bit strong for my skin. I've stopped using niacinamide, I think it was too drying for me. I think you can alternate it that might be better.. see how your skin feels. I've heard the alternative to MAP (vit c) is Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate from the ordinary. I hope this helps! Xxx
Yessss live videos about The Ordinary because it’s an affordable brand, I have acne prone skin that leads to hyperpigmentation, so looking forward to the next video to see how I can tackle both with this skin care brand!
Yes! I am so happy I found your channel. I am battling hyperpigmentation on my cheeks, and I just threw away what I was using. Because you made so much clear for me, to begin with the difference between skin of color and caucasian skin. Thank you for doing this for us.
@@habeshalove7466 Hi Habesha, it took a while before I had all products at home. I still cannot purchase MAP from the Ordinary anywhere. So I bought a substitute for that. And I am just starting to use this layering. It will take some time before I see results.

@@psoni2035 I got the Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamine F from the Ordinary because it's also soluble in oil. I use it after the Niacinamide and before the Retinoid 5%. I am getting the hang of it. I still have to get my notes so I don't mess up the order of the products :)
I want to thank you so much because it is difficult finding trustworthy information for skin of color. It brings me joy having someone break down and explain how both product and skin function.
YES YES YES!! Thank you for making these videos, especially geared towards skin of color! I feel as though we finally have a platform specifically for us ❤️
I've been using most of these products as recommended. I have combo (oily t zone) skin and acne prone. Major difference. I don't need make up! Some alternatives: -Cerve SA cleanser -rose water/glycerin instead of micellar water. - 15% niacinamide + zinc by revolution I used a hair removal cream on my chin and messed myself up but quickly recovering. This routine works!
God bless you for posting this! You’ve made Me excited about reviving my skin and Finally sorting out my hyperpigmentation issues which have always affected my confidence
Yes Dr. Vanita Rattan I love this video of yours it really helped me how to take care of my skin more as well as how to really use THE ORDINARY PRODUCT correctly that I love so so much. However , at the same educating me, and more women out there who is suffering from hyperpigmentation and very desperate of which product to use and the right way to use products correctly . Since there are a lot of products in the market which targets this skin issue on "HYPERPIGMINTATION" which is more common in Asians and all over places which the humidity is very high and a place where temperature reaches 50 degrees like in the Middle East specifically. Lastly, I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart and i wish you more power and all the best in journey as a HYPERMINTATION DERMATOLOGY EXPERT please continue impowering women.
This is so helpful! I've had darkness on the upper lip for so many years but the products I've been using haven't helped. I didn't realise how important it is to apply the products in a particular order. Look forward to more of these videos from you!
For those who are seeing some of the products sold out online, its best to go in stores and not waste your time waiting in the waiting list. I was able to find all the products in the store and even buy more than one quantity.
Okay.. This lady can convince me anything.. Like earth is flat or anything.. Jokes aside.. Dr rattan.. You are saver for many brown skined women.. I was confused about the order of serum to apply. Now I know. Thanks to you.. 💜💜💜

We adore you, with great respect, and also as a role model. I'm still learning how to take care of our skin and I am so happy that your here teaching us if not we would be very lost. Researching and trying so many products only to find out I would get contact dermatitis from them and layering in the wrong direction made my hyper pigmentation worse along with having babies, stress, work, sports with a lot of sun damage, hormonal acne and allergies ect. I have some serious problems in this area and you've been such a God send for us because if I knew what the cause for all this damage when I was younger I could have done something about it back then. Thank God your here!! Thank you for sharing with us❤ 🙏🏽
Yes. I love that you offer advice for The Ordinary with respect to skin of color! Also love that you have your own products as well. Keep the content coming!
I know this is about a year later, but it’s a YES for me! Pls keep up the good work. Meaningful advice specifically for skin of color is appreciated. This kind of info does not come by easily on these platforms. Thank you. Sending you love & light from South Africa 🇿🇦 ♥️💐
Yes, please have a look at standard beauty, it's a local South African brand, that has a similar product line as the ordinary. The ordinary is not so affordable for the average South Africa and standard beauty is a lot more affordable, please look at it an advice on if it is worth it. Thanks love the content.

I wish i found your channel bit earlier. You are providing really important knowledge that helps to make our own decisions about skin care. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I will always be so glad I came across your channel! Educated, medical professionals are such a rarity on UA-cam in comparison to the sea of skincare influencers with little to no real knowledge and who often give out harmful advice (some of which I've unfortunately followed and suffered as a result).. I no longer need any of them now that I've found an actual professional who truly cares about brown skin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Dr ❤️
I'm about to try this tonight. I was finally able to get most of the products I need. I'm only missing the magnesium ascorbyl phosphate It's time for these dark marks to go
@@nabila4348 it's going slow, but it's only been a month, I think. I need to give it more time. A lot of my hyperpigmentation is old, but any new regimen, you have to give it at least a month or three before you see any real improvement. I know it's working though because I use a lot less makeup to cover my dark marks. If my skin improves even more by the third month, I'll give an update. I wasn't able to get the magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, but it might be that might be a good thing because either the formula changed or doctor v isn't aware that you aren't supposed to use it in a regimen with niacinamide.
@@_LexiMaeHey! I want to try this routine to get read of some dark spots. Do you do the routine every day? Also, I shouldn''t buy the magnesium ascorbyl?
@@mathieudorce1559 I wouldn't use the magnesium with this routine, but it doesn't matter. You can't purchase it anyway--it's sold out. I do the routine every day and skip the retinoid in the morning. I apply a sunscreen like she suggests. My marks have faded some, but not completely. I still need to give the routine a few more months. I've had hyper pigmentation for years, so it's going to take three or four months before I see any drastic change. But they are fading. I will probably post a video showing the before or after, but I don't feel comfortable recommending the routibr until I've seen it work on myself. If you're willing to wait, I'll post an update on my face after the third month or if I see any more improvement before then.
Double cleanse 2% Alpha arbutin 10% Niacinamide Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate ( can't find this product anywhere. It's a water-soluble derivative of vitamin c. So I'm using Ascorbyl Glucoside 12%) Retinoid ( Granactive Retinoid 2% is best for skin of colour) Azelaic acid Moisturiser .🌻
No wonder why my sun burn left me a permanent tan for good 8 years on my back. Love the way you explain the details, the info is so easily digestible. Thank you!!
@@jazlovedad hey! Its not been over 10 years since that really bad sun burn and my skin has returned to normal. It just faded and recovered over time. There was no skin peeling following the sun burn. I am very careful now about making sure I have a form of light cover on top when out in the sun.
You made it so comprehendable as like having a visual presentation of how ingredients work and react on the section of skin. And all these complicating mix-match skin essentials for combating skin problems are simplified by your explanation. I earned importabt points on choosing skin care and its layering order in just a few minutes. Saves so much!
I have pigmented skin so I somehow came to this video. Ordered the products mentioned by Dr V except for the moisturizer from ordinary bcoz it's out of stock here in Rotterdam. So as a mositurizer, I apply a cream from Paula's choice. My spots which were there on my cheeks since 6-7months have now started fading. The Ordinary products actually work.. thank you Dr V.. 😀
Yes! And thank you. Although i would like you to make a summary of the products by brand and name to put on our skin. Just so its easy to make a screenshot and go shopping with a list and “recipe” on how to apply
I can't thank you enough for this! I hate being so insecure about such a vain issue and am so tired of spending a fortune trying to get rid of my melasma only for it to come right back from one accidental moment in the sun. This info is truly helpful and greatly appreciated!
It's not vain dear. I have terrible hyperpigmentation and dark spots scattered around my chin plus the frequent painful acne, so I can understand insecurity but we can't let it get us down. Hope it worked for you
Your videos helped me to create a skin care routine for my 10yr old as she was starting to develop tween acne - her skin is soooo much clearer now thanks to your recommendations and she isn’t self conscious about her skin anymore - thank you 🙏 😊 … the problem is , I have become a skincare junkie now as a byproduct of helping my daughter 🤣🤣🤣oops!
if you have acne-prone skin or oily, please conduct a skin-patch test before using the cerave moisturizer she mentioned as part of your regular routine. That product gave me cystic acne and now I'm dealing with hyper-pigmentation.
Yes. I need to have anti-aging and hyperpigmentated skin routine. That is good all day. I work nights in a bright environment and sleep days in a bright area and always exposed to blue and all sorts of light.
If you're trying to sleep during the day, have you tried getting "blackout" curtains? I find they help a lot to prevent light from penetrating indoors, day or night (even light from street lamps can prevent me from getting a good night sleep). They can be expensive though, so if you know how to sew, you can get blackout fabric and make your own. 😉
I hope this video will help my mother's melasma. I just finished the whole video and it's very informative. I might watch a few more for myself later. Thanks!
Im a fair skinned person living in the US. Even though Im not a woman of color, Give really been enjoying your channel. And the ingredients in your products look INCREDUBLE!! And at a reasonable price, too. Can't wait to order...
Highly informative video. I have been suffering from mild acne then became moderate exacerbated by mask. I have a type 6 skin, south east Asian descent. Your video has taught me more than my bloody dermatologist. I live in Ireland and unfortunately, he was not this thorough as to what and which to apply first plus maybe that he was not used to dealing with ethnic skin. Thanks a lot for this video. Really appreciate your effort. I wish I have the money to afford your consultation. It is lovely to have a doctor with knowledge of dealing with skin of colour. Keep up the good work.

@@vanitarattan I recently subscribed and I REALLY enjoyed your content as I find it very helpful. Can you give some tips or just products that will be helpful in general to get rid of dark areas in the skin like elbows, knees, bikini areas, underarms etc.? That would be awesome!

It’s so amazing regaining my health back to normal and ridding my body of Herpes. Thank you so much 🙏 You can as well Contact Dr. Aloha through his email: Alohaherbalhome@gmail.com or WhatsApp +1(202)871-3222
A big YES! Finally, a UA-cam on hyperpigmentation for dark skin. Thank you.
I just REALLYYY want to thank you! The information your giving is priceless and I don't mean to be dramatic. Thank for caring about our skin!
That’s what I was about to say
Hi I did the same and now my face is irritated from the last product mentioned as well. I can see it works but it’s irritating and I thought the whole point of her teaching was to not irritate skin of color.
Thank you ❤
Just left a message about what happened. I honestly don’t think she knows what she’s talking about.
Same thing happened to me. I had to stop using the Azaleic acid. My face was on FIRE! My skin is very happy with everything else, though.
I've found my best friend. Home girl knows her stuff.
My melanin and I are so grateful to have run into you.
Oh!! 🙏🏾🌹 do you think this would work for dark knees??
where have i been all my life 😭 I just found her channel now and I've never felt this blessed 🙏
Finally someone who seems to knows what they are talking about. I will watch all your videos. Thanks
Thank you thank you thank you! I have learned so much in this one episode than I have in the past few years of chasing treatments for my hyperpigmentation. I'm of Indian origin and 72 yrs. Have subscribed.
I love you DR V, i cant imagine my life now without you.
Please do a video on Mandelic Acid
Yes❤️🙌🏽! I’ve revamped my entire skincare process based on your videos! Thank you thank you for taking the time to educate the SOC community.
Could you please yell if it’s for daily or how many times a week???
Thank you.
On your last questions:
1) YES, you’re doing a phenomenal job with your content. I’m cutting off glycolic acid after I’m through with this cleanser because of your advice.
2) Watching from the US
Glycolic acid broke me out so bad I dint know it was the culprit I started cutting out products one after the other until I watched DR. V, I stopped immediately cause I dont wanna waste it I use it for my underarms and when its finished I am not buying it
@@lucillea-r9568 same!
Lucille A-R what aha u r using instead of glycolic acid
Hi, Can you also do a video that incorporates a hyperpigmentation/anti-aging evening skincare routine?
Starts video saying she is a channel dedicated to women of color’s skincare and this video is about hyperpigmentation.... ME: *Subscribes immediately.*
Same I smiled so hard, 😭
omg!!! literally what i did!
🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙌🏾❤️❤️me too
I was like: finally thank god
It’s really amazing how needy, narcissistic, and childish you “people of color” are.
I implemented this plan and 3 months later new glowing skin!!!!!! Thank you Dr. V!!!!
how often did you do it a week?
Finally, a specialist qualified in this subject! The only doc to listen to for skin of colour!
Yes! This is spot on for my remedy!
Thank you so much

Is there an alternative to the magnesium suspension m? I cannot seem to find it. Thank you
Such a breath of fresh air to have a Dr who specializes in OUR skin !
I’ve been using these routines for a month and I can’t believe how much my skin has improved. My husband even noticed which is HUGE!!
Aww this is good to hear! I just purchased most of the products (expect magnesium.. its sold out everywhere) hope I see results too 🥰♥️ x
Do you think it halps for pigmentation melazema
Did you use it every night? Also which vitamin C did you use ... I just got all the products , did my first night routine! Excited and hopefuk☺
Do you think it help for pigmentation
@@habeshalove7466 Hi Habesha, it took a while before I had all products at home. I still cannot purchase MAP from the Ordinary anywhere. So I bought a substitute for that. And I am just starting to use this layering. It will take some time before I see results.
@@LysdoRego Hi Lysette, hope you are getting on well with this routine! What substitute did you get for MAP and where are you using it in the layering. Also are you experiencing any Pilling? Xx
@@psoni2035 Can you explain what you mean with pilling?
I want to thank you so much because it is difficult finding trustworthy information for skin of color. It brings me joy having someone break down and explain how both product and skin function.
Learning so much about skincare from this one video alone - amazing Doctor.. wish I found your channel earlier 😭
YES YES YES!! Thank you for making these videos, especially geared towards skin of color! I feel as though we finally have a platform specifically for us ❤️

The excitement I am going through right now!!!🥳🥳🥳🥳 Finding this page is a miracle.
I've been using most of these products as recommended. I have combo (oily t zone) skin and acne prone. Major difference. I don't need make up! Some alternatives:
-Cerve SA cleanser
-rose water/glycerin instead of micellar water.
- 15% niacinamide + zinc by revolution
I used a hair removal cream on my chin and messed myself up but quickly recovering. This routine works!
“Actually you’ve been creating a bushfire on your skin”. Informative. Thank you
God bless you for posting this! You’ve made
Me excited about reviving my skin and Finally sorting out my hyperpigmentation issues which have always affected my confidence
For lightening upper lip easily just use Sesderma Azelac Ru Serum. £40
Did it work?
For those who are seeing some of the products sold out online, its best to go in stores and not waste your time waiting in the waiting list. I was able to find all the products in the store and even buy more than one quantity.
thank you!! i wish i realized this before purchasing online
Okay.. This lady can convince me anything.. Like earth is flat or anything..
Jokes aside.. Dr rattan.. You are saver for many brown skined women.. I was confused about the order of serum to apply. Now I know. Thanks to you.. 💜💜💜
❤❤❤❤ you are an angel God sent to do God's work, thank you so much for all of your knowledge from the past, present, and looking towards the future!!

OMG?? Caught you just in time! I was researching on what to use from TO for my skin. Hyper-pigmentation has marred my skin all my life!
I'm about to try this tonight. I was finally able to get most of the products I need. I'm only missing the magnesium ascorbyl phosphate
It's time for these dark marks to go
how did it go
@@nabila4348 it's going slow, but it's only been a month, I think.
@@_LexiMae do you do the routing at morning too?
Double cleanse
2% Alpha arbutin
10% Niacinamide
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate ( can't find this product anywhere. It's a water-soluble derivative of vitamin c. So I'm using Ascorbyl Glucoside 12%)
Retinoid ( Granactive Retinoid 2% is best for skin of colour)
Azelaic acid
Moisturiser

I always recommend Niacinamide but I will definitely recommend this routine my clients with hyperpigmentation. Your videos are always helpful.

I have become a skincare junkie now as a byproduct of helping my daughter 🤣🤣🤣oops!
if you have acne-prone skin or oily, please conduct a skin-patch test before using the cerave moisturizer she mentioned as part of your regular routine. That product gave me cystic acne and now I'm dealing with hyper-pigmentation.
Thank you for sharing. I started using the products, and my cheeks are breaking out. I was unsure what may be causing it.
