Forget the football the fact he was willing to put his dreams aside to work to support his kid and take responsibility is more inspirational than anything.
Seriously one of the nicest and most humble dudes on the planet. He's always out in the community and will talk to anyone who wants to speak to him. Anyone from New Orleans can tell you he's out at almost every Saints game, went to every VooDoo game when they played in the AFL. You'd never know he was an All-Pro. Carries himself just like a regular New Orleanian and he never forgets where he came from. One of the most humble and awesome figures in sports history.
I remember I met Micheal Lewis at a play 60 training camp in the Saints training facility. He told us his story but as a 5 year old I didn’t listen. But after watching this my God I should have listened.
orrection* The office where Lewis worked is near the Saints corporate office but still the Superdome is 7.6 miles away which still does prove your point. A reality that seemed so far away.
Nusa...Being a New Orleans native and (WD4L) "Who Dat 4 Lyfe" Saints fan. I was going to offer the same explanation. The Saints training facility is a stones throw away from the Budweiser distribution center, but the Superdome is in downtown New Orleans 7 to 8 miles away. It's all for the best because the training facility is in a place called Metairie, LA. a totally different entity from The City of New Orleans. and they don't want anything to do with New Orleans or be identified as New Orleanians. they feel they are better then anyone who lives in the city itself. I strongly believe that if they could, they would all go to the city and pick the Superdome up and carry it to Metairie and keep the real New Orleans natives out of it. that's just how they operate there.
I have to say i dont think this is true at all. i came to the comments section to explain the same thing the two of you have as i lived relatively close to both the plant and the facility. As far as people from Metairie not wanting anything to do with New Orleans, I'm not really sure where that notion is coming from. I love New Orleans and claim it as my city even though i live outside of it.
I was the warehouse supervisor at the Budweiser Distributor (Southern Eagle) for a few years, which spanned over the Katrina period. I worked with a lot of the guys that worked with him. They said Michael was a cool guy when he was there. And as you pointed out, the Saints office and training facility is next to Budweiser, but the Dome is downtown.
He's in the top 20 for most career return yards, #17. He had 5,989 return yards. I think that's very impressive considering he only played from 2001-2007 for them. 🔥
@@lawrencetaylorsr No, KTO did misspeak in saying it was a half-mile from the stadium. The distribution warehouse is more like almost 10 miles from the Dome, but right next to the practice facility.
Imagine what he could have been doing at 22-29 in the NFL... shame, he missed out on big money and big recognition. Sad he missed that time but what an inspiration and talent.. amazing video! Amazing story!
Great video, great story, but that's the Saints practice facility on Airline Hwy next to the Budweiser distribution center. The stadium is the Superdome downtown.

You should so one on his teammate Joe Horn. Horn didn't play a down of football for two years after leaving college. Down to the final $6.00 in his possession, He spent $3.99 on a Jerry Rice workout from a local Blockbuster and studied the drills and moves Rice performed in the film. Horn then made a highlight video of himself working out and sent the tape to multiple professional teams across America and Canada. He played in the CFL and caught the attention of NFL scouts. He got drafted the at the age of 24 (Round: 5 / Pick: 135) by Chiefs. He made it to 4 Pro Bowls during his time with the Saints.
I'm from New Orleans it was incredible watching him play growing up. Love your vids. You should do one on Delvin Breaux from the Saints he has an incredible story as well.
So proud to say I got to see him play in person in the super dome with my dad. We will always love the beer man in Louisiana. This video brings me back to when I was a kid watching the saints with my dad just me and him. My dad is disabled so it was our favorite thing to do when I was growing up. Who dat!!! ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️
