People forget that Devin Gardner had switched to WR and was putting up good numbers as Denard Robinson's primary target; but then Denard got injured and his backup was ineffective so they put Gardner back at QB. He played so well that when Robinson was healthy they left Gardner in and used Denard as a RB primarily for the last few games of his career. It was a strange ending for Denard Robinson, a player who has a very strange place in Michigan's history.
Here are some guys from the 2010 class who didn’t make the top 25 as recruits that ended up getting drafted: - Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois) - Blake Bortles (Central Florida) - Sean Mannion (Oregon State) - Bryce Petty (Baylor) - Keith Wenning (Ball State) - Brandon Doughty (Western Kentucky).
@@vittiriowashington5211 yeah. Getting to that point was huge. I think that he grew in college and his arm strength improved greatly if I remember correctly. Now I want to go look and see if he's who I'm thinking of. Regardless, to be ranked that low, to an NFL starter is REALLY impressive.
Blake Bell does have a TD, he caught a TD pass in the Chiefs/Texans divisional playoff game a few years ago on his way to picking up a Super Bowl ring.
I wonder how much the changing landscape of offensive approach affected these guys? They would be, most likely, the last of the QB classes to enter college while the I formation was still prevalent. I believe FSU would be the last national champion that would be predominantly I formation, maybe Alabama in 2016. For sure, programs were incorporating the RPO on a regular basis by 2013. That would be a big adjustment for them. Great video, Scott!
Man, I remember Bryan Bennett being so hyped up on national broadcasts during blowout/garbage time when the Ducks were way ahead. At least he got to the CFL.
A “Where are they now?” breakdown of all the 5 star QBs from maybe 2011-2016 would be awesome. It’s always interesting to see how many of these guys don’t turn out how we thought.
Out of all the QB's mentioned in this video I'd say Devin Gardner had the absolute most adversity to deal with. Being switched to receiver and dealing with arguably Michigan's worse era in terms of offensive line performance which led to him being constantly banged up with some form of injury was out of his hands and despite the circumstances he gave it his absolute all for his team. His Monday Morning Quarterback podcast is a great watch, the man will be coaching at the next level before we know it.
@@football21853 I mean it could be worse it’s not like we have any other weapons on offense kamara and Ingram were both out on thanksgiving so that doesn’t help
Say what you will about Blake Bell but he split time at QB and in 2014 he threw the winning pass in the corner of the end zone to beat Oklahoma State and win the Big12. The guy has been in the NFL for 10 years. How many players actually do that? Not a lot. Respect.
Thing is, out of HS (he went to Bishop Carroll, btw) there was sooo much talk about his arm strength. In college, he ended up being used in a lot of "gimmick" packages (i.e. the belldozer) and Trevor Knight ended up being really good. I think he never got a fair shake as a "proper" QB from Bob Stoops but he made the most of it by switching positions and has stuck around in the NFL for awhile as a tight end.
Tyler Shreve left Utah after his RS Fr season and went to Riverside City College to play baseball. He got an AS in Kinesiology then went to University of Redlands and got a BA in Sociology and Anthropology. He also became an EMT. He now works in Redlands as an umpire for youth baseball and softball.
Ahhh, Tyler Bray.. the Dooley-era Vols still give me nightmares. He openly threw the game vs UK in 2011 amidst an injury-filled lost season, then in 2012 had an unbelievable offense with many players STILL in the NFL (cordarelle!) undone by coaching malpractice. What a heck of a talent, though. Wish the Bears would have given him a shot when they knew the guys they were rolling out there couldn't get it done.
I love these class breakdowns!! I’d really love to see a breakdown of the Top 25 QB recruits of 2008 and 2015 because I know two of the QBs in those classes!

Love these videos im like a personal library of players from every year but I really enjoy the replays and learning more info and remembering all the stats and career turn outs for these guys! Keep up the great work❤
Blake Bell had a TD catch in the Chiefs playoff game against Houston 2 seasons ago. Maybe it didn't show up in his year by year stats, but it definitely happened.
Thank you for this video!! for the longest time I have been wondering who the black back up an on USC was on NCAA and now I know!! you are doing the Lord's work
Devin Gardner was actually a very good college QB...he just was on bad teams with a HORRENDOUS OL. As a Michigan fan I still feel bad for the guy. He was a great guy and a very good player who deserved better
Devin Gardner got the short end of the stick at Michigan. Had 3 different OCs, played for Hoke his last year, and his offensive line let him get hit often. While trying to convert to WR in the NFL, he suffered an injury which contributed to him being released.
I remember Phillip Sims well. All summer long in 2011 it was who’ll start? AJ Mccarron or Phillip Sims. They both played in the first game but AJ went the whole way vs Penn State in game 3 and that was that.
A few of these guys seemed to end up being pretty good coaches (Rees, Whitmer, for example) and CBRE is a real estate company that Holder is the president of. They’re one of the most successful companies in the world.
Lifelong Tennessee fan. Tyler Bray had the biggest arm I’m ever seen there. He was also the most confident (a little too confident sometimes). We had a great WR room with him to with Patterson and Hunter. I believe most fans like myself puts a lot of blame on Doully for accomplishing so little with all that talent for 3 year period.
As a vol fan myself I do blame the coaching staff there we had an offense that could go 11-1 but a 2-10 defense I would never blame Bray for that team’s record at all
What about Connor Shaw his freshman year was 2010 ,he took over as starter midway through 2011,then all of 2012 & 2013, he ended his career as the Gamecocks all time leading game winner he, started the last game of '14 for the Browns, but from then on injuries ended his career. However,as a lifelong USC GAMECOCK fan, Connor Shaw makes the 2010 class one of the best
If you want a better idea of how much potential Tyler Bray had, keep in mind he played for Derek Fooley. To get those numbers in spite of his coach, Bray showed he had something special. It’s a shame he ended up with mediocre teams.
Wouldn't call the 2010 draft class terrible. Bradford looked like a superstar/HoFer until the injuries ate em up. McCoy was a career backup. He was a top 5 option if you needed insurance for a decade. That's almost more impressive than being a full time starter because he had to prove it every year. Tebow was just one of those experiments that didn't take. I must point out that Taysom Hill owes his career to Tim. The HS Class was historically terrible. It's exceedingly rare a class has a position with zero good NFL players.

Wow thats a lot of transfers. Nothing against transferring, as its every player’s right and better to start elsewhere and try to make it in the league rather than stay for loyalty without any chance, but it seems head coaches now need to not only recruit the best, but try to recruit career backups as well
No Colt McCoy hate allowed he should have gotten the treatment Darnold doesn’t deserve. His team was horrid and he played good enough that he should have gotten a second shot with a nfl roster
In fairness, if not for that injury he suffered in the Bama game, he would have been a first-rounder. Unsure if he would have been a better NFL QB though.
The Browns should have kept going with him instead of the bust that we all knew would bust in Brandon Weeden. Colt would have at least been like Baker has kinda been, just solid but not a true franchise changer.
Colt McCoy is in the NFL playing for the Cardinals. Kyler Murray is hurt so McCoy started their last game and showed everyone why one guy is great and the other is Colt McCoy lol
If Tyler Bray had the right culture he would’ve been a superstar. I watched him throw 300 yard games as a freshman against sec teams, but then he’d be in trouble for throwing beer bottles at cars 🙃🙃
Gardner is by far my second favoret michigan quarterback since Henne. He had alot of stuff go against him but stuck through it all, played behind the worst michigan O line i ever saw. ❤ 98 #goblue. Also he won an emmy so.. thats cool
Some of these guys are "busts" simply because they didn't catch on in the NFL. Some even had decent college careers. A lot of QBs don't get to the NFL, good or bad. A lot of great college QBs fall flat on their faces in the NFL. A lot of them transfer, too. This seems a little nitpicky.

Kyler Murray is hurt so McCoy started their last game and showed everyone why one guy is great and the other is Colt McCoy lol
I don’t like how Jonny Miller looks like Bruce Venture
I graduated in 2010 and that year I wondered how good the QB'S would be that year and it turned out not good at all. 2010 doesn't seem that long ago
If Tyler Bray had the right culture he would’ve been a superstar. I watched him throw 300 yard games as a freshman against sec teams, but then he’d be in trouble for throwing beer bottles at cars 🙃🙃
Tyler Bray had a Canon on him.
I feel like playing time wasn't the only factor in Bolden transferring...
Trevor Semian is no longer a bust he’s winning mvp
Watching bray was so fun. Dude was kinda crazy and had an absolute cannon
The "taking my talents to X" line was annoying when Lebron said it once. Saying it 25 times...
"live up to the hype" bro... you gotta be like at least top 5 at your position to be considered hyped
But then this bums video is not as interesting 🚮
Didn’t Blake Bell score a few TDs in the playoffs?
Gardner is by far my second favoret michigan quarterback since Henne. He had alot of stuff go against him but stuck through it all, played behind the worst michigan O line i ever saw. ❤ 98 #goblue. Also he won an emmy so.. thats cool
Some of these guys are "busts" simply because they didn't catch on in the NFL. Some even had decent college careers. A lot of QBs don't get to the NFL, good or bad. A lot of great college QBs fall flat on their faces in the NFL. A lot of them transfer, too. This seems a little nitpicky.
This dude with this content is a bum must have never played at a decently high level and he needs to produce contrived nonsense to fit his narrative so that he makes enough nonsensical content for online jackals

Lol you misspelled Siemian’s name.
Take a shot every time he says “take his talent to x”
27/24 TD/Int ratio in college is crazy😭
Fun fact, Hutson Mason is my cousin
