I don't know if you will read this comment because it's late, but I just want to say THANK YOU for all your videos, I work at a repair shop and your videos truly help and your inspirational videos help as well, thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with all of us. I had an alienware EDP LED connector repair and your video repairing the same connector helped me so much.

I had a similar job last week I bridged the pads with solder paste and used the iron on 1 pad and the heat transferred right through and bridged nicely. I dont use solder paste for anything else it's quite messy stuff but I've found a use for it now
At first I was a little weirded out by music, then I started having flashbacks of playing Sega Gensis as a kid. It would fit perfect in a 16 bit platformer. Thinking Earthworm Jim, or maby Streets of Rage. Your daughter did a great job, encourage her to continue with her creativity.
If the customer who wanted this job done is reading this, I'd truly like to know why you wanted the components removed and the lines jumped. I'm quite curious.
He called them ESD protection, or Electro Static Discharge. They may have been causing nuisance trips and interfering with operation. Sometimes stepper motors are noisy, especially when driven hard or fast. This is probably a mod to improve performance and reliability, and is cheaper than buying a replacement motherboard where these parts have been eliminated
Hi Alex, nice bground music btw! I hope you can show us your technique in removing components by heating the backside of the board on your next videos.
100% agree. Can't live without it. It's a daily use for me. Quick tip. You do not need to press the button to activate, just touch it by keeping your finger over it. The pen will go to sleep if finger is not touching the button to elongate the life of the tip. Enjoy and thanks for ordering.
Hi. Love your channel, so straight forward, no bullshit. Been following you for some time, and here I notice the new theme song. You should use this background theme song more often when you are mass soldering. So relaxing 😁 This theme song has been stuck in my head ever since you released this video, and when people say: this thing got better after they fixed something ,I just have to replay, Better than factory 😂
Great job but why? ESD protection is definitely important, I see some caps so it is not entirely naked but darn... why? I guess the client is always right
Yes, very odd. If you want something that's bound to generate noise to fail then first remove the ESD components (which look to be on the HDMI ports, for cameras or monitors perhaps).
Nice song in the background. I like the retro game theme to it, and it Alex’s voice sounds 8 bit almost😂😂. It’s better than the UA-cam stock offerings.
If i understand things correctly. looks like they are resistors for filtering the signal to the stepper motors - could be a point of failure, but removing them increases the signal strength, the customer may need to use after market motors for some reason or what faster/more control. though It might have been easier to replace with 0ohm resistors it is not what the customer asked for.,
Only reason I can think of for removing is that these ESD protection devices are a known point of failure. If the device fails in an open circuit, it could interrupt the communication on these ports. It could also fail with internal shorts which would disrupt the signal path yet again. Can't imagine another reason for doing this.
Hi Alex I know you don't take suggestions, but. Having a little more context for repairs would be great for the viewers. Maybe a before an after speed if that is what it does??
The only thing I can think of is possibly removing them so they can glitch the processor and dump it's flash and what not, I know that it's common for people to remove filter caps and protection circuits to attempt glitching.
It makes zero sense unless these components were faulty. They are TVS Diodes and they protect the circuit from voltage spikes from i.e. static discharge. TVS Diodes are basically wires with a diode to the ground. In my opinion Alex should first check if they are okay (conducting). But I have no idea whey they didn't just replace them if they were faulty :/
This component is diode array and it's supposed to protect against ESD. It works the way that if something goes wrong on the data line it simply shorts this line to GND. The way it's been repaired it's not best solution as if any overvoltage or static discharge and the MCU is gone.@@MattBeaver

I thought I'd found a magic item.for repairing pads it was just solder paste mislabeled 🤦♂️

Giana Sisters SID File and a SID player :) You can run it on windows.... THAT is flashback >:) Prince of persia :) .....
Maryam is a budding mixer.
I loved it💐, and the fix!
Well done both of you.💖

I think it disables the ethical systems of the kitchen robot so it can now protect the house from intruders and cook them on the spot
You are not alone I also want to know 😁 or at least someone who knows what you gain with this mod.
Have an amazing day everyone 😁
lol@@qster
If I had to guess, I bet these are limiters - with them removed, the arm will work faster..
Me too
Alex, Youre an artist. Thanks for the videos.
This was VERY impressive.
Hands of a surgeon.
Hands down this man skills are insane
Its amazing what 7yo can do these days. Good work on the music. I thought it was a video game.
Background music is great! By the end I couldn't get it out of my head.
'you just got Busted by Northridge Fix' and 'better than factory' put a fat smile on my face lol
20:31 - I appreciate this Kimtech Wipe tutorial.
We've seen it done close up but not the application of alcohol.
kudos to your daughter. nice tune. & great vid as usual
Bought the micro pen and grinder and I love them.
Hi from Germany. Why did the customer want these removed?
I'm sure he doesn't know because the customer didn't tell him. He is just a repair shop and he did the job the customer asked of him to do.
Perhaps factory recommendation to solve some problem. Good luck without ESD protection.
I bet it’s either for jailbreaking, avoiding planned obsolescence, disabling sensors or unlocking features

I like the original music while soldering. Very nice Mr. Northridgeman
I would really like to know the reason for excluding those components
From what i can tell, they are filters and already are bridged within the component itself but as to why replace them with direct paths, no clue.
same
They are a current limiting circuit I believe. Increase power to the servos steppers.
He called them ESD protection, or Electro Static Discharge.

Big Fan from Tanzania I love your videos you really inspire me 😊 thanks for the videos they are very helpful
Let's make a game about soldering and put this theme song in the main menu, would be perfect 💪😃 Greetings from Poland

I really like the song 😊 Its actually catchy.

Thanks for the video Alex. We got similar job from robotics company before.
That soundtrack though 😂 hilariously good
lol i love the sayings that get sprinkled in hahahahahaha
7 year old kid made it and it was interesting 👍.
Have an amazing day everyone 😁
Sound track name Better then factory 😎
That theme song is awesome. Kids are built differently these days.
I was just vibing to the music and it just hit me... :)

The song with your famous phrases are a great move.Cheers from Portugal
The theme song by Maryam is amazing! Very nice vibes. Love from Sri Lanka!
This Northridge fix beat slaps
Tell Maryam that she did an amazing job with the song. It reminds me of a videogame score from the 80's or 90's. Double thumbs up!
Theme song is great!! Really suits the content!
The music 😂 this is a whole new genre I’m telling you. Give it time and you’ll see
Love the music. Easy job for you Alex.
Pre-tin jumper wire. Nice job.

Yes, very odd. If you want something that's bound to generate noise to fail then first remove the ESD components (which look to be on the HDMI ports, for cameras or monitors perhaps).
If you noticed they were protecting optocouplers. I am guessing that the reason for removal was to give a stiffer signal to the optos.
Love the background music ... "what can you do ... "
Such a strange and whacky song, it made me chuckle a bit :P Better than factory
i kinda really enjoyed the new background music, goes well
The theme 🎵 song is great it should mention all the equipments you sell in the song as well ❤

I''d be curious to know what is the purpose of that mod?!
I understood the customer wanted those parts removed but WHY? Why was the change needed and what effect does it have?

That theme song is epic 😃😃
Background music stole the show! 😂 amazing job by the 7 yr old.
Sorry if mentioned,What was the reason the customer wanted this specific modification? :)
From Zimbabwe hi Alex
Why have these parts to be removed? Does it tweak anything on the robot?
Hey Dude, I appreciate her sound project, great job !! Congrats, Cheers from Brazil !
Awesome work . Come to Durban South Africa PLEASE !!!
I love the voice, better than factory 😅
I'd of used zero ohm resistors just for ease and ascetics

A possibility, looks to be a clone of a TI chip. I would have fitted the TI part, but then I would have disobeyed the customer's instructions.
Tvs diodes last for a very long time
Theme song is awesome!!!

Wait the sec my guy. Northridge new music label? 🤣
Note at the end of vid says it's a project made by his 7yo
I seen this at the Hard Rock Hotel i like it
couldn't you put the strips down on the pads and then apply heat from below to melt the solder onto the strips?
the background music is a big no from me at least right thru the vid ...............
Was a project by his 7yo daughter

Do you guys carry hot tweezers?
Anyone can guess why the customer wants to remove the components ? Are they related to flashing custom firmware or something similar ?
The only thing I can think of is possibly removing them so they can glitch the processor and dump it's flash and what not, I know that it's common for people to remove filter caps and protection circuits to attempt glitching.

would there be a way to modify the chips or find similar chip that has open conection and then reconnecting to the board to accomplish the same goal?
