Dr Berg uploaded a more recent video explaining he no longer recommends this due to blood sugar spikes, you can find it on his channel. He also said he would delete these old videos...this one should be removed.
Dang! I was looking forward to making this. :( Thanks for the info on him not recommending it anymore. Do you by chance have a link to the newer video where he retracts his recommendation for this bread?
I don't know---I was born and raised in, lived in most of my life, maple-sugaring country, and I often watched my former brother-in-law's sugaring op. There were never any additives put in---they just boiled down the sap, bottled it, and sold it---and I've never in my 67+ years had an insulin spike from it. I don't drown anything in it, just use enough for the wonderful maple flavor, so maybe that's helped keep the IR down, I don't know. I'm on the keto life, but I do still use pure maple syrup on very rare occasions, sparingly, because there's just no way one can take the taste of real maple syrup out of one's mind with a substitute.
This product spiked my blood sugar. Big time. I tried well over a year ago. There are many reviews from consumers on the internet that are saying the same. I was surprised when I was searching Dr. Berg's videos for maple syrup that this is still here. Is Dr. Berg still endorsing the use of this sweetener?
Lots of people here are expressing concern that this syrup spikes blood sugar. Plus, this type of fiber syrup is High-FODMAP. Is there another alternative that is low GI and Low-FODMAP? The only one that comes to mind is coconut syrup but I don't know if that is keto-friendly.
Hi Dr Berg (and Mrs. Berg), thank you for your work. With fiberyum unfortunately it is not keto. I consumed it and tested my blood glucose and went up significantly (2 tea spoons). Upon reviewing the data it has it has shown to have a glucose response. I was hoping it will pass the test as i was really looking forward to start using it.
Maple syrup is a pure natural product. You are suggesting using an artificial product in its place. Please do npt label a product containing nothing maple as maple syrup. It is an artificially flavored table syrup!
I thought maple syrup doesn't raise sugar levels. Incorrect? What is this stuff ur using to make the maple syrup? Where do you get it? I really though maple syrup was ok? What is your take on Honey?
Okay I found out that VitaFiber is 33-37 on the glycemic index and I assume FiberYum is similar, so it's definitely a few points lower than honey or real maple syrup. For some reason I was expecting a lower number though. Anyway we bought some so will be trying it out soon.
i read that products like VitaFiber and FiberYum spike blood glucose. Can you tell us why you think it's ok to use it? Is it just for a little while? How much would you say is too much?
Hey dr berg, thank you for your videos! I am an avid watcher as of a month ago and have significantly changed my and my husbands diets. He has gone through a frustrating time with doctors feeding him antacids and antibiotics after talking to him for 2 minutes. Your instructions are very comprehensive and a lot cheaper than pointless trips to doctors who won’t help. Also I may have missed the video on why real maple syrup or honey are bad. I’m interested in the break down
I am curious about what effect the Fiber Yum has on blood sugar? The Sukrin Fiber Gold Syrup is IMO as well, but it is made with barley malt, it does cause an elevation in blood sugar. The Fiber Yum is made from Tapioca root, so does it have a similar effect even though it is low carb?
lol, I thought it was that easy when you mentioned your make syrup in the sweeteners video. A whole tablespoon? I'll give it a shot for Saturday morning pancakes!
I am a subscriber to your channel, and love your wife. My question concerns the use of "fiber yum," as a sweetener. I went to Amazon to buy it, and many of the reviews claimed it spiked their blood sugar. Is this possible?
I found fiber yum and several people have mentioned on the reviews that is spiked their blood sugar greatly. What would cause that and does brand matter?
Interesting, because I had not found this, however, it can increase it in some people. I think it's more of a sensitivity reaction that creates a stress, then increase in cortisol, then insyulin.
Eric Berg. Thank you for replying. I bought some anyways , I miss maple syrup. Here is link to the reviews . www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B00XQMAC1G/ref=mw_dp_cr
Roxana Oldham There are some videos out where folks tried different sweeteners and tested their blood sugar. This product mentioned here is problematic for at least some people.
Dr. Berg, I finally got my hands on some vita fibre and used it keenly in Cooking treats. Only to find out it kicked me out of Ketos? weight went up? Now I am so confused i was however fine when i just use to add a few dates and a teaspoon or two of Manuka honey to my diet instead (Not cheap!) Help! :( Too much fibre knocks you out of ketos me thinks? Please confirm?
Hello Dr. Berg merry christmas & happy new year to you guys. Can you make keto hot chocolate? Bc many people love hot chocolate but they also afraid of its too much caffein content. Also what do you think about "carob", the cacao substitute? Which one do you prefer?
The main ingredient in Fiber Yum is Resistant Dextrin. Is this derived from Maltodextrin???? and if it is, didn't you produce a video on it expressing how bad it is for consumption?
Dr. Berg, I am frequent user of maple syrup in my recipes. You talked about bad stuff in maple syrup, but what do you mean by bad stuff? In Australia, there are two maple syrups, the aunt jemina and the pure canadian syrup which acoording to the label is 100% maple syrup with no extra ingredients. Its very expensive by the way. Is this 100% canadian maple syrup not good for kitogenic diet? Thanks
The bad stuff is the sugar, maple syrup has an insane amount of sugar, really it's like liquid sugar with some flavor from the maple trees that it is harvested from.
Ten spoonful's of maple syrup helps the medicine (tea, lemon and activated charcoal) go down... YUMMM, my morning quart. Everything in moderation, except my maple syrup.
Maple syrup has 13 carbs per TBSP, Fiber Yum has 5 carbs in 1 tsp plus the 5 grams of fiber to cancel it out. Couldn't I just add powder fiber to maple syrup? Maple syrup has got to be better for you nutritionally than maple flavoring.
I think that would just increase the carbs and then neutralize those additional carbs. So if there were 3g of fiber added and there were 5g of sugar carbs before, it would raise it to 8 but then you could subtract 3g for the fiber so you'd be back at square one with 5g of sugar carbs. I guess at best it could dilute the maple syrup; essentially as a filler...?
Hey Dr Berg! I've just got myself some vitafiber which is basically IMO (isomalto-oligosaccharides) which I understand is the same thing as FiberYum. It seems to be low in net carbs but I just tasted a bit. It obviously tastes great but I'm really worried about its effect on my current state of ketosis. Is it safe to trust the net carb amount in my daily diet? A video on this would be awesome as there seems to be very little online about IMO and keto. Many thanks :)
I didn't learn anything about maple syrup or that fiber processed food-like product here. I much prefer Dr. Berg's whiteboard presentations over these cooking sessions with Karen interrupting and being sarcastic and cutesy.
Karen, I attempted to make the Maple Syrup, but the main ingredient "Fiber Yum" is no longer available and the VitaFiber no one has that either. Let me know if find something else to substitute. Thanks!
I'm not sure what they don't remove or update these video's when they find out information is wrong. He has 3 years ago posted new video that this is not keto friendly and you see some people mention that in comments. So be skeptical of these old videos and mainly recipe's .
Hey friends - you can find Fiberyum on Amazon, but also check out SukrinUSA - you can type this into Amazon or go directly to their website and see all of their products! Try Sukrin's sampler- AMAZING!!
I think you guys really should add a special note to sweet recipes when you make them that says certain products will spike a diabetics sugar just as high as the real thing so it may not be for them.
Is the main ingredient for FIBER YUM isomalto-oligosaccharide? I ASK BECAUSE I AM LIVING IN GERMANY AND THAT IS ALL I FIND WITH THAT NAME. PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANK YOU! 🌷

This product spiked my blood sugar. Big time. I tried well over a year ago. There are many reviews from consumers on the internet that are saying the same. Fiber yum defanetly is not keto. I tried it and my blood sugar went threw the roof! Spiked my glucose level more than regular sugar.
Thanks for mentioning.
Thank you, I was wondering about that.
Love the apron!
Thank you for the support!! Be well!

My blood sugar shot up so high after fiber yum and my heart started beating faster....wow not keto friendly!!!
S F are you diabetic?
he doesnt reply any of these concerns ! i wonder why !. thank you for the info dear .
@@RaraAvis27 he did make a new video explaining fiberyum isn't keto and he initially used some incorrect information
What about maple syrup?is it good?

Dr. Berg: "That's a yes."
Mrs. Berg: "No, we can't use it! It's a no, we can't use maple syrup!"

He doesnt answer anything. Probably saving the subject for another video wink wink
He did address these in a new video explaining fiberyum isn't keto and he did use some false information to this one.
Maple syrup cayenne pepper lemon juice fast what are your thoughts dr. Berg?
You two make me smile!!! You are special people..I share all ur vids... Thanks for engineering better ways for us to live & eat!!! Love from NYC
I use Lakanto brand (monk fruit) maple syrup- no rise in blood glucose.
Lakanto is the only brand I would use as it does not use toxic sweeteners. I haven't tried it yet, I've been researching all the brands out there.
Its actually quite tasty. The liquid one anyway. Better than stevia glycerite even.

Yeah, Fiber Yum spikes insulin
Do you have a recipe that doesnt? Ty

aunt jemima isnt maple syrup. It's 'Pancake syrup'
