this video is so perfectly done. It shows proper technique using the clam shovel. More importantly, than just bagging a limit, the vodeo demonstrates the most valuable aspect of this crazy fun activity. They focus, the intent of the video, on the primary objective, -having fun. The fun aspect is often missed or overlooked. Why? How?, Being too intently driven by being succeed. Too driven to grab a limit for "bragging rights", Too driven by ego, too driven to prove one's digging prowess. In doing so, these types of diggers forget to look at the beautiful surf. They never take a moment to deeply inhale the surf salt air, to listen to the power of mother earth as she pounds the beach with massive waves. When digging razors, a person can move from hole to hole, filling the clam bag with a full limit and then hurry back home. Eventually that digger will fill their belly with delicious fried razor clam. The digger that marvels at the majesty of the ocean as they look through their windshield as soon as they shift their vehicle into park, experiences peace within their soul. Deeply Inhaling the salty surf air as they slowly stroll to the surfs edge, they renew tranquility within. At the sight of the first doughnut shape mound, recently made as the clam retracts it's neck to avoid detection, elicits pure excitement in the soul, so rarely felt since childhood days. The suspense builds from the moment the clam gun is placed over the dimple in the beach, until the gun is muscled down into the sand below, where the clam has sought refuge. Only when the clam gun tube is pulled from the hole and the round column of tightly packed sand is dumped onto the beach, does one experience the thrill of success. Laying at their feet is the dark amber brown colored shell of the razor clam. The brief disappointment of not having a clam slide out from the clam gun is short lived. With fortitude and a few more steps across the beach, another doughnut or dimple in the sand will reveal another razor clam below. The excitement returns and the clam gun is once again driven into the sand as the roar of the surf surrounds.
A frying pan of breaded razor clams indeed feeds the body. An adventure of going to the ocean beach in hopes of getting a few razor clams, if done with the proper perspective in mind, nourishes the soul.
Here on the northeast coast we have banana shaped razor clams that can move quickly through the loose sand. First thing is to stick your finger down the hole to figure out which direction they went. Since they're curved they move in a circle. You dig about a foot away from the hole to catch them.
Ive only been razor clammin maybe a handful of times with a clam gun. This last time just a few weeks ago I just had the worst luck and crushed like half my limit. I think next time im going to try it out with a shovel and hopefully it prevents me from crushing/cracking the razor clams. To be honest using a shovel seems to be more fun.
For me its the only way to go! Its how my mom did, and her dad, and so on. :). Labs are THE BEST!!! How can a person have a bad day with a lab around?!
Went for the first time yesterday. Managed to get a clam gun as they were sold out at bi mart and sportsmans. Within a minute found a sign of one and got it. Decent size. Got a couple small ones aftet that and that was it. I should of got out there earlier but i live in Vancouver.
Hi, Ash. I was wondering about shovel handle length. I see you have a short handle on your shovel. What do you think are the pros/cons of a longer handle? I'm looking to buy a shovel, and wondering what handle length to get.
We’ve got an area up here called Clam Gulch that I’m hopeful to try. Clamming was shut down here this year for the entire Cook Inlet but hopefully next year we can give it a try! I definitely thought you were gonna say those were shrimp shows because of the way they are 😂
Were you at Long Beach or somewhere else? I think I will go to Long Beach next week to dig razor clamp, low tide will be at the evening but I think I will ok
Great vid.... it doesn't look like it's a secret there was lots of cars on the beach can you tell us where that is so that we can give it a go thank you
How do you clean your clams? I use the boiling water method, so much easier. Maybe next time show how to clean them…for the viewers who don’t know. Or they can just look it up.
Looks like your using a shovel made for a toddler 🥴 I use both a shovel and a gun made of stainless steel. Over the past few years I’ve primarily used the gun…I don’t get wet or dirty and my fingers don’t get all cut up.

I love razor clam digging! It's so much fun.
Me too!!! More more more!
Love when Oly appears in the videos.
He is pretty amazing! I love it when he does too!

Back in the “Old days” everybody used shovels! Before the Astoria bridge was there . Love your lab! I have two.😁
For me its the only way to go! Its how my mom did, and her dad, and so on. :).
Labs are THE BEST!!! How can a person have a bad day with a lab around?!
Great video I also learned how to dig with a shovel when I could just barely hold one.
I can not believe how good you are at pulling those guys out with a shovel!! I have to use my clam gun.
Shame on you! You are a murder!
Nice worm for surf perch fishing wow. Going to hit you up this winter to guide me into some of Washington's epic Steelhead rivers.
Very impressive! Curious do the clams dive/dig away from the ocean or toward? Or is it random? Thx

Awesome sauce looks good!
Thanks! It was pretty fun :)
The lost art of the shovel, great video
agreed! Thank you for watching!

Great tip on the shrimp mounds, I see people pounding those so often and don't have the heart to tell them. Plus the sand is so hard there!
So true!! I used to do it as a kid because I thought the shrimp were neat! Fun times.
Another fun video. Thank you
Hey Larry! I am glad you like it!! Happy Thursday!
@@BadAshOutdoors never clammed with a shovel. I would be worried about getting a crab.
Have a great evening. Best to you both.
9:36….He’s like “no freakin way, I actually got one”! I had a good laugh on that one 😁
HAHAHA! I love doing that for him!
I love the fact that you use a shovel in my opinion it is the only way to do it and it’s the only way to experience why they’re called razor clams
lol, there are several reasons to shovel, but yes, finding out the hard way about the razor is one of them!
awesome video! your dog is such a good boy 😄
Thanks, he is a very good boy
I'm learning negative tides lol only heard of low tide.
So much to learn with the ocean!

I should have said that!! Hahahahahahah!!
I hope you can get out soon!

I was at Pacific Beach!
Where did you get your pants and your boots? asking for a friend.
North face pants
Huk boots
:)
Thank you my sister loved them :)
good tut kiddo
Great vid.... it doesn't look like it's a secret there was lots of cars on the beach can you tell us where that is so that we can give it a go thank you
Sure! I believe this was right in front of Seabrook in Pacific Beach. Enjoy!
@@BadAshOutdoors thank you
The limit is 20 in 2021. I got my limit a couple of days ago, but many of them were small.
Always a good idea to double check the regs BEFORE you go out!
Isn't the limit 20 each now??
It is! This was filmed before that
Which beach is this
It was pacific beach
I think the clam gun is faster and cleaner.
Lots of people swear by the gun!
Where is the local
?

Great suggestion, the next video we post will have this!!
Unless your arm is 6 feet long, that clam wasn't 3 feet deep.
用抽桶

Yeah they are both pretty cool

i wouldve watched the whole thing if u were using the clam digging tool...jus sayin
whats the difference?
Am wondering why anyone would dig these with a shovel when clam guns are far simpler, effective, and much cleaner?
Maybe they are banned in some areas or you can’t buy them in some areas
Lol. Shovel is way easier, faster, and effective, if you know how to use it. Try digging 64 pounds of clams with a gun lol
@@suddencosmicawakening I have with the vacuum break. Way easier and cleaner! Killin me here!
