The Best Way to Find & Dig Razor Clams (How to Dig Razor Clams in Washington)

  • Razor clams are one of the tastiest clams you can harvest in the Pacific Northwest. They are delicious and super easy to dig for. You just need a clam gun (or a shovel, or your hands if you're a beast) and a bag/container to put them in. You can get clam guns at pretty much any outdoors store (Sportco, Cabelas, Walmart even)...I prefer the aluminum ones with the vent holes because they're easier to use and hold up longer, but any of them will work.
    We didn't get many opportunities this past season with an early closure due to domoic acid, but I'm super happy to be out on the beach again getting these tasty bites! (They also make spectacular crab bait if you find you can't eat your limit of 15 clams.)
    We usually arrive 1 or 1.5 hours before low tide. If the clams are showing on their own, we might limit out in 20-30 minutes, but if they're not showing well (like today at this particular spot on the beach at least) then we use a very sophisticated stomping method to force them to show and still get our limits pretty quickly. Nom nom nom clammies!!!!!
    Always check for biotoxin closures and current open harvest dates and locations (this is for Washington State): wdfw.wa.gov/fi...

    Just a friendly reminder you should always dig facing the surf so you can see any waves coming. Especially for night digs.

    Loved the video. Wish I was younger. It looks like hard work. I tried geoduck clamming many years ago. It was so hard and we skunked. My back hurt for days. Gave away the tool immediately. Your video made me dream of trying again. Thank you 💕

    Great video! This season has been disappointing with demoic. Usually by now between Nick and I we have 5 lbs frozen already. I have a stuffed razor clam video for when you run out of ways to cook clams like I did, and it's phenomenal!!! . I can't wait for your Crawfish video. We'll be down on the Columbia next month and will be doing our own crawfish and Catfish video HOPEFULLY.

    So jealous!!! The first time I'm not happy to see you post a video! I couldn't make the drive up on such short notice. Went bank fishing instead. In 5 hours caught a tiny perch and a beautiful but tiny pumpkinseed. Not skunked, but I'd rather be razor clamming. I'm still on my quest for 3 shellfish species in one day.

    • @SeaWolfFishing
      @SeaWolfFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Hahaha, oh man. The shellfish trifecta will happen I'm sure :) Are you going to make it up for the razor clam dig this weekend or are you going for something else? I'm going to give geoduck a try...never done it before so we'll see lol.

    I went this last Sunday, May 30th, but we didn't have much luck. My daughter got 2. Pretty sure it was just due to how crowded the beach was. Now Crabbing in the summer in Sequim, WA off of 3 Crabs rd, I'll get my limit just about everytime. Just more experienced with that.

    • @SeaWolfFishing
      @SeaWolfFishing  3 роки тому

      I love Razor Clams, but I'll take Crab over clams any day lol :) The beach was the most crowded I've ever seen. It was crazy. I bet if you tried again in the fall you'd have better luck.

    What season for razor clam open

    • @Frank-mu5yz
      @Frank-mu5yz Рік тому

      First you'll need shell fish license..
      Can be bought at most grocery stores..
      Big fine if no FISHING LICENSE.
      At least in Washington.
      They also will tell you of what season months to clam.
      I do my claming at Ocean..
      Shores..there's at least 3 beach Shores close to each other..
      Hundreds of people at most beaches..

    New to your vids and also new to razor clams(havent been but going Jan 14 or 15th to Long Beach) Does one need an AWD or 4WD car to go on the beach?
    All i got is my Toyota Camry and was wondering if i can take it on the beach or if ill have to park it a pretty far distance from the beach.

    • @xazianxtcboy69x
      @xazianxtcboy69x 2 роки тому +1

      Ocean Shores, MocRocks, Copalis Beach, all don't need AWD or 4WD cars. I made it using my dinky honda civic front wheel drive. Happy digging. Start right before it starts LOW TIDE. Use waders or waterproof leg covers.

      This particular clam gun came from Sportco in Fife, WA. The Walmart in Aberdeen carries some cheaper lower quality versions during the winter clam season too for those passing through on their way to the beaches. You can also get Danielson Clam Guns on Amazon.
