Plus, just like the Grass/Fire/Water using the additive colour model, Ice/Psychic/Electric would use the subtractive colour model. Something worth noting for the flying type is that you could pick Rookidee for the final trio because of Coalossal. In gen 4's starter trio Empoleon gains the steel type which makes it no longer weak to grass, but Torterra gets the ground type so it can still hit it for super effective damage. Since Coalossal gets fire type it can still hit Corviknight for super effective damage. And IMO Rookidee line fits the starter vibes better than Zubat, and the first stages would all be single typed

Little pitch in regards to an all ghost starter game, basically you'd get sponsored to start your Pokemon journey by your town's gym leader, a ghost type specialist. They challenge you to get the other 7 badges in the region and come back to challenge with that Pokemon in its final form. In my eyes they're the end of the game's main story and the elite 4 & champion are more of a postgame, maybe in a neighboring region like the indigo League is. About the high level dragon starter. Maybe simply have it stated that your character was a Gym Trainer before going on your journey. At the end of the journey maybe do what Black and white 2 had. A pokemon Tournament with random trainers with higher level pokemon. After the first tournament you can bring in more trainers from other regions or maybe special tournaments like a Gym leader tournament or champion tournament. After the tournament is the elite 4 fights
4:41 okay, now i want a pokemon spinoff game set in a fantasy kingdom with knights, dragons, and magic where we're the odd one out who's able to tame these wild beasts. While writing this, I got flashbacks to that Yu-Gi-Oh season when they went into a video game.
i LOVE the poison trio! i just did a poison type gym leader run, and all three of those pokemon are super fun and awesome would absolutely use them all again. the ground type bad guys is similarly great... ground was a massive issue for me that run.
I always keep in mind that in pokemon most people are normal. So whenever I think of a character I keep that in mind. Everyone follow diffent paths, you could have received a random pokemon as a gift from your normal family, or maybe you are from a battle maniac family that gives something more that line. Maybe your family is a dragon tamer clan. Or you are a punk person that got your own rough partner. Trainer class are something I love. Many tell about their kind of lifes, so my favorite type of rp is made around trainer class.
i'm personally very partial to a Electric-Ground-Flying type starter trio, where the Electric starter has an ability that makes it immune to Flying to complete the triangle of immunities. My current idea is a regional Mareep with that ability, a regional Mudkip that is mono Ground type, and a Pidgey. and fun fact, all three of their final forms have megas already, so perhaps that would be the gimmick for this region
Re: Paradox starters. I'm also imagining a scenario where your starters are Great Tusk, Donphan, and Iron Treads. Either that, or Slither Wing, Volcorona, and Iron Moth. Don't know how balanced either of those would be, but the concept is fun!
Loved the idea behind the Poison starter trio, though it might be carried by the fact I love Glimmora so the idea of having Glimmet as a starter is quite thrilling. Regardless, fun video!
I like the idea of a starter trio with koraidon/miraidon roles, basically hm functtion from the jump. E.g, a skiddo who can run fast, jump high, and maybe rock climb. A cetoddle that can surf from the jump(you cant convince me its not still bouyant). Finally an archops that can glide carrying you, like hisuian braviary. Ideally this would be a new trio altogether, at the same time i really wanna give it to gogoat because i love gogoat.
Themes matter as much if not more than balance. If it was for a romhack, evolution levels and merhods could always be patched, as would learnsets and base stats. I love the Fight/Flight/Freeze trio based on instinctive responses (can't remember which hack/fangame had that one), the D&D Warrior/Mage/Thief of gen6 and the Metal Gear Solid of gen 5 (Solid Snivy, Revolver Oshwalot and Pig Boss).
I also was really interested by this topic, so I think here would be a good spot to share some alt starter trios I would like to see happen (doing this before watching too so if I have the same answers that's probably why) Strong Pseudo-Starter Trio: Gible -24> Gabite -48> Garchomp Nacli -24> Naclstack -38> Garganacl Rookidee -18> Corvisquire -38> Corviknight I had two parameters for this (and all other) categories: a) They all had to be purely 3-stage level up evos b) Evolution levels should be rolled out at a similar pace to starters I think this grouping makes the most sense to me in terms of strength. Ground-Rock-Flying is the type trio, and Garganacl getting Salt Cure helps it to counter the Steel Flying Corviknight. Not a coincidence you see these mons on many ingame teams, they're strong, you can get them either early or midgame, and they evolve like a starter with some valuable traits that set them apart from other mons. Garganacl and Corviknight are a bit samey, but other than that I feel good about saying these three starters would be hard to choose from given how good each of them are. I like how these three line up in terms of evo levels as well, with Rookidee evolving earlier and Gabite evolving later. I’d say Corviknight is the weakest out of the three overall at 495 BST even with the coveted steel/flying typing due to it staying pure flying before, and Garch is definitely the strongest at 600 BST. Garganacl may be at only 500 BST, but it has a great ability in Purifying Salt and a better movepool/stat distribution than Corviknight’s line, which lands it in the middle. So it makes sense to have the evo levels reflect that. I also like having them come online later rather than sooner so that starters aren’t overcentralized. Starter-Like Trio: Bounsweet -18> Steenee -Stomp (29)> Tsareena Mareep -15> Flaaffy -30> Ampharos Fletchling -17> Fletchinder -35> Talonflame I added an additional parameter for this category: They needed to be in the Medium Slow EXP group which is a big reason why starters are so good ingame. Grass-Electric-Flying is the type trio, though you could argue that's redundant with Fire Flying typing. The Luxray line is similar to Amphy’s line, but I didn’t choose it here bc of redundancy in role. Each one of these mons is either a physical, special, or mixed attacker. Tsareena and Ampharos hit 510 BST while Talonflame sits at 499 which is made up for by its blazing speed. I know Tsareena's evo doesn't line up with the rules, but it's doesn't change anything about how the pokemon functions to have Steenee just evolve at 29 instead of needing a level up move. Queenly Majesty is an easy choice for Tsareena, great for protecting it from priority that it might face. Gale Wings is a good get for Talonflame but it a) is really broken and b) is counterintuitive with Queenly Majesty so Flame Body seems like a more punishing choice for this matchup. Static on Amphy punishes Talon for using it's primarily physical moveset and pairs well with Flame Body which Amphy isn't affected by. I think all three are different enough that it would make sense to see all of them as starters together! Personal Choice (I mean all of them are but for these I’m just ignoring the rules): Houndour -24> Houndoom -Mega Stone> Mega Houndoom Honedge -35> Doublade -Dusk Stone> Aegislash Fidough -26> Dachsbun -???> Dachsbun evo This one I had to grapple with for a minute, because I wanted a specific thing that just wasn’t happening with the mons I actually liked to use. I enjoy the design model of making starters totally weak to each other, so that when you’re fighting a rival with a type-weak starter, you must switch out or strategize. So I decided to count Mega Houndoom, under the caveat that it was scaled back to houndoom's original 500 BST to match the others listed here (with houndoom itself at like 410 BST or something) Along with Dachsbun getting an evo that would put it on par with the other 2. The type trio here is Fire Dark -> Steel Ghost -> Fairy (Fire Immunity). Cool thing about Dachsbun is that it can retaliate against any fire moves with a +2 Body Press hitting supereffectively with it's highest stat into Houndoom's lowest stat (defense). These mons are all easy to love and use, I also think it would get even better with some stat tweaking and level adjustment. Anyways thanks if you made it this far, looking forward to seeing what this vid has to say about it!
Going along with the mono dragon idea, I think it could be cool to have the starters all begin as the standard fire/water/grass trio, and then they all gain the dragon type when fully evolved. Then you could also make them 3 different types of dragons from common lore/fantasy Thematically that could go well with a draconic region, and the way the types interact with each other is cool. When fully evolved, their primary stab is no longer super effective against the mon they originally had an advantage against, and it’s now quad resisted by the mon they were weak against. They gotta use their dragon stab for super effective damage, so things become a bit more dangerous. GF seems to want to shy away from the dragon type on starters and this could be a cool way to do it. Unfortunately balance wise the grass starter gets a bit shafted. It would be the only one to be weak to ice, and 4 times at that. Dragon grass isn’t great defensively compared to the other two
People hate Chikorita in gen 2 for the same reasons they love Charmander in gen 1. I feel like the only difference is that Meganium isn’t cool-looking, just cute.
If it wasn’t for Rolycoly not being Fire type as a first-stage and Ferroseed not having a middle evo: *Tympole, Rolycoly,* and *Ferroseed* would be an interesting trio, all being 4x vulnerable to their counterpart’s primary type, being defensively focused with similar BSTs, _and_ all having an ability that hurts attackers that make contact If Seismitoad actually learnt some physical attacks for its stronger Atk stat, they’d also all be physical attackers
You know i kinda dig the toxic enviorment trio and i also kinda dig a more hazardous industrial region, The evil team could become a major threat in the story especially in an enviorment with more limited team building options and the starters being 4x weak to Ground. Plus the evil team can be called something like Team Fissure. Also if Salandit is a starter then it would have to be a guarenteed female because because of obvious reasons.
I'm designing a fakemon region where the starter trio is pure fighting, flying, and rock in their base forms, and evolve into fighting//grass, flying//fire, and rock//water in their final forms.
Honestly I would have done with Normal what you did with ghost but make them specialize in attack, defense, or speed. Though with speed you would have to have another secondary stat like special attack/defense being decent to make up. Basically the classic, Tank, glass cannon, and fighter roles.
Maybe a region where the starters are Machop, Abra, and Gastly but if you wanna evolve your starter, you have to trade with your rival and give them the evo too. And also maybe buff the Machop line because Gengar and Alakazam are pretty powerful and it would need something to give it an edge against Gastly. Like turning Gastly into a ghost/dark type and giving Machop Scrappy or something. Ghost/dark Gastly would still be pretty sick too honestly with STAB boosted Dark Pulse.
Between all those pokemon triangles some i'd choose are: Slowking/Slowbro; Garchomp or Kommo-o; Cofagrigus or Runerigus; Glimmora; Annihilape (i've used this 'mon a lot in both of my plays in SV) Honorable mention goes for Midday Lycanroc. In actual games i didn't even use it at all but in Pokemon Infinite Fusions i use it a lot since is the fastest between it and its Midnight form.
A trio of meowths: you can choose between regular, alolan, or galarian. Same can be done with diglet, where you could choose between regular, alolan, or wiglet. Another idea is weather-based trios: for example, ninetales, hippowdon and peliper
I know there’s no three Pokémon that it would make sense to do this with, but I think it would be really cool to have a starter trio where one of the starters is Grass Fire, one of them is Fire Water, and one of them is Water Grass (or those same types but arranged differently, depending on what kinds of starters they are, and thus which type would make more sense to be their primary type)
Personally my proposed ground, rock, fire starters are Rockruff Houndour And Mudbray IDK they all seem very “starter like” to me plus they are all domesticated animals. It’s a cute, appealing starter trio.
stretching from trio starter. i think duo starter of ghost-dragon would be neat with having similarity weak to itself. and the 'villain' is using either dark or fairy. ghost could represent the balanced or defensive style, while dragon went all on offense and speed, giving absurd stats distribution. which further balanced by their villain counterpart, dark being 0.5x to ghost(constant difficulty) while fairy completely immune to dragons(spike in challenges). pokemon based around mythical-medieval settings i assume.
Well the project me and a friend have been cooking would have more of a starter web than a starter trio (3 options per type + eeveelutions) and trying to post the ENTIRE list of planned starters here would be a bit much but I’ll reveal a tiny sneak peek; Hisuian Growlithe (which gets dragon dance and head smash by level up when evolved), Shroomish, and Horsea are just one of the many trios you can think of within the planned starter list also of the several dozen or so pokemon available for starters, most of them will be buffed to roughly equivalent power; think around RU-UU. This is to avoid a common problem with games that give so many starter options: If you’re not doing a self imposed challenge, then why pick anything but the strongest options, especially if the game says it’ll be hard? Also, because it’ll be an essentials game, I can just tweak starter evolution methods to all be available before the fourth badge. TL;DR starter trios are overrated, starter webs are where it’s at (also hisuian arcanine should get head smash via level up)
In an event of pokemon ultrasun/ultramoon the kahuna nanu gives a child a choice for their starter, letting them choose between. Alolan Meowth Alolan meowth Or alolan meowth And you help the child choose based on the personalities that the meowths have. I think thats the only example of a budget starters in the game other than pikachu/eevee (who ist count aince theyre special cases), ralts from wally (which again is a unique case as he captured it himself) and i guess hop's wooloo
Poiple is a starter, so you could use that on the dragon one, right? Also for the steel, rock, fire: glimorra has nothing going for it, whereas salazzle can poison both of the others and revaroom is immune to the poison from glimorra.
Tbh Chickorita is very overhated, it’s cute and that’s all it needs to be. Tbh I think that starters need some more simplicity, and I feel like chikorita is like so simple it feels good to see it, because of how complicated Pokémon is nowadays. Don’t get me wrong, I love gen 9 but just feels good to have a change in pace
No way you put Cyandaquil on the worst list at 0:07. He is nation treasure. 0:32 Groudon scribbling with a pen is goofy lol. The same Pokémon that learns Flamethrower XD
I just wish they would have given us differeny trios in each game. The fire, grass and water is so boring now! Fighting, psychic and dark would be fun. Ground, ice and steel would be interesting. Or grass, bug and rock to make things unique.

With Salandit as a starter, it would be the first one that would need to have a higher female ratio. Salazzle is a favorite of mine so I’d definitely choose it out of those.
Unless this hypothetical game would either make a male evolution or just cut the need for it to be female.

I loved the idea of the 4 types weak against ground starters facing off against an evil team that uses ground types! That's amazing!
I love how this video grew from your previous idea of elemental wheels.
i LOVE the poison trio!
i just did a poison type gym leader run, and all three of those pokemon are super fun and awesome
would absolutely use them all again.
the ground type bad guys is similarly great... ground was a massive issue for me that run.
Love this! I think for my next playthrough of BW I'll use the Slowpoke, Houndour, Shroomish line as the starters
i'm personally very partial to a Electric-Ground-Flying type starter trio, where the Electric starter has an ability that makes it immune to Flying to complete the triangle of immunities.
Don't know how balanced either of those would be, but the concept is fun!
this topic will never stop being fascinating to me
Loved the idea behind the Poison starter trio, though it might be carried by the fact I love Glimmora so the idea of having Glimmet as a starter is quite thrilling. Regardless, fun video!
I kinda like the idea of starters all that evolve with friendship or affection. I think that could be interesting.
The chikorita slander needs to end
I also was really interested by this topic, so I think here would be a good spot to share some alt starter trios I would like to see happen (doing this before watching too so if I have the same answers that's probably why)
Strong Pseudo-Starter Trio:
Gible -24> Gabite -48> Garchomp
Nacli -24> Naclstack -38> Garganacl
Rookidee -18> Corvisquire -38> Corviknight
I had two parameters for this (and all other) categories:
a) They all had to be purely 3-stage level up evos
b) Evolution levels should be rolled out at a similar pace to starters
I think this grouping makes the most sense to me in terms of strength.
Starter-Like Trio:
Bounsweet -18> Steenee -Stomp (29)> Tsareena
Mareep -15> Flaaffy -30> Ampharos
Fletchling -17> Fletchinder -35> Talonflame
I added an additional parameter for this category: They needed to be in the Medium Slow EXP group which is a big reason why starters are so good ingame.
Personal Choice (I mean all of them are but for these I’m just ignoring the rules):
Houndour -24> Houndoom -Mega Stone> Mega Houndoom
Honedge -35> Doublade -Dusk Stone> Aegislash
Fidough -26> Dachsbun -???> Dachsbun evo
This one I had to grapple with for a minute, because I wanted a specific thing that just wasn’t happening with the mons I actually liked to use.
I’d love to see new evolutions to these two stage Pokémon, that can bring some cohesion and bring it up to starter stats 👀
eiscue and carnivine are goated pokemon.
I would love to see you doing ultimate favourite Pokémon picker, kinda as a chill video. Also loved the video!
I’ll keep that in mind :)
For the dragon starters, Hydreigon, Dragapult, and Kommo-o would form a secondary type triangle
Going along with the mono dragon idea, I think it could be cool to have the starters all begin as the standard fire/water/grass trio, and then they all gain the dragon type when fully evolved. Then you could also make them 3 different types of dragons from common lore/fantasy
Thematically that could go well with a draconic region, and the way the types interact with each other is cool.
If it wasn’t for Rolycoly not being Fire type as a first-stage and Ferroseed not having a middle evo:
*Tympole, Rolycoly,* and *Ferroseed* would be an interesting trio, all being 4x vulnerable to their counterpart’s primary type, being defensively focused with similar BSTs, _and_ all having an ability that hurts attackers that make contact
If Seismitoad actually learnt some physical attacks for its stronger Atk stat, they’d also all be physical attackers
ngl a fighting-rock-flying starter fakemon trio would be very cool
You know i kinda dig the toxic enviorment trio and i also kinda dig a more hazardous industrial region, The evil team could become a major threat in the story especially in an enviorment with more limited team building options and the starters being 4x weak to Ground. Plus the evil team can be called something like Team Fissure.
Also if Salandit is a starter then it would have to be a guarenteed female because because of obvious reasons.
I'm designing a fakemon region where the starter trio is pure fighting, flying, and rock in their base forms, and evolve into fighting//grass, flying//fire, and rock//water in their final forms.
mankey, pawniard, and dreepy might be an insane starter combo
Between all those pokemon triangles some i'd choose are: Slowking/Slowbro; Garchomp or Kommo-o; Cofagrigus or Runerigus; Glimmora; Annihilape (i've used this 'mon a lot in both of my plays in SV)
Honorable mention goes for Midday Lycanroc. In actual games i didn't even use it at all but in Pokemon Infinite Fusions i use it a lot since is the fastest between it and its Midnight form.
ShepskyDad should do Dual type triangles i already thought of one:
Steel/Pyschic--->Rock/Poison--->Fire/Bug
Please do another gym leader video, they are so goated
Next video!
@@shepskydad lets go im so excited for that vid I myself were also wondering many times what the best gym leader teams would be
A trio of meowths: you can choose between regular, alolan, or galarian. Same can be done with diglet, where you could choose between regular, alolan, or wiglet.
Another idea is weather-based trios: for example, ninetales, hippowdon and peliper
If they ever make more Let’s Go game, I require the trilogy of Let’s Go Meowth 🐱
I loved all of these and playing a game with any of these would be really interesting!
Damn, imagine the starter trio of Lotad... Capsacid.... and fucking Volcanion lol
Silvally with a grass memory, silvally with a fire memory, silvally with a water memory
+1 for the Chained Echoes reference.
I love ur content. Keep it up. I love Pokemon so much
Personally my proposed ground, rock, fire starters are
Rockruff
Houndour
And Mudbray
IDK they all seem very “starter like” to me plus they are all domesticated animals.
I like Fairy-Fighting-Steel as a secondary line even if fighting doesn’t resist steel
I'd make a starter trio of german shepherd, husky, and... well... dad?
If you look down at the video it says Mandjtv
Happy 1 year brother❤️✨
Rock/Flying/Fighting should be Rock, Paper Plane, Cross Chop.
I can attest to crobat evolving usually for me around 30! I tend to raise mine from zubats, for any idea of pacing.
Well the project me and a friend have been cooking would have more of a starter web than a starter trio (3 options per type + eeveelutions) and trying to post the ENTIRE list of planned starters here would be a bit much but I’ll reveal a tiny sneak peek; Hisuian Growlithe (which gets dragon dance and head smash by level up when evolved), Shroomish, and Horsea are just one of the many trios you can think of within the planned starter list
also of the several dozen or so pokemon available for starters, most of them will be buffed to roughly equivalent power; think around RU-UU.
Alolan Meowth
Alolan meowth
Or alolan meowth
And you help the child choose based on the personalities that the meowths have.
I think thats the only example of a budget starters in the game other than pikachu/eevee (who ist count aince theyre special cases), ralts from wally (which again is a unique case as he captured it himself) and i guess hop's wooloo
LETS GOO, NEW VID
I really like the poison trio with ground evil team
Poiple is a starter, so you could use that on the dragon one, right? Also for the steel, rock, fire: glimorra has nothing going for it, whereas salazzle can poison both of the others and revaroom is immune to the poison from glimorra.
I'm gonna use this to use a random starter.
How about video of legendary pokemon substitutes based on types.
Ex:
Dialga - Duralodon/its evolution
Palkia - Kingdra
Giratina - Dragapult
Lycanroc and Gogoar are two Pokemon i find absolutely great, instead i nearly don't like Beartic.
I choose Shroomish at 4:12, Garchomp at 5:25, Yamask at 6:15, Salandit at 8:02, Great tusk at 10:30 Iron bundle at 11:00 and Mankey at 11:53
I just wish they would have given us differeny trios in each game. The fire, grass and water is so boring now! Fighting, psychic and dark would be fun. Ground, ice and steel would be interesting. Or grass, bug and rock to make things unique.
0:09 you mean worst as in battle right? I won't stand slander for the adorable pear dino (but if you are talking about in game then yeah Chikorita is terribly weak)
Definitely in battle. I still love the goofy pear dinos
Chikorita does not suck!!! I love my Gen 2 Grass starter!!!
Don’t shit on my girl Chikorita 🤧
meowth, meowth forma de darkness, meowth forma de savage

My Golbats usually evolve into Crobat 1 or 2 lvls after Zubat evolving into Golbat. Just saying.
Fire water rock weather starters
