I remember I was in the Team Rocket hideout, fighting with a Pikachu that went down, so I threw out a Growlithe that leveled up after the battle. Raichu not having to run light ball allows it to be more consistent and splashable on teams, able to fit into more roles.
I was thinking the same thing. Raichu overall has much better natural stats and a free item slot. That and Pikachu refused to evolve it wasn't Ash that didn't let it
I wish Raichu could also use Light Ball for a 1.5x boost. The flaw with Light Ball is that, as mentioned, Pikachu is kind of bad outside of very niche situations, where its insane damage can shine without it getting smacked in return. Raichu's main issue, conversely, is that it has good speed and not absolute paper thin survivability, but its damage is extremely low even compared to its fellow Gen 1 Electric types (Jolteon just casually having higher stats in every category besides Attack, being a lot faster and naturally doing ~14% more damage with special attacks at max investment). Raichu is one of my favourite Pokemon, probably tied with Ampharos as my favourite Electric type. I hate that Pikachu overshadows it. There are some "fans" that don't even know Raichu exists and it breaks my heart. I think part of the problem for why some Pokemon are underappreciated, is because of the games' format. Stats mean a lot in the games to have a strong team. Easy access to them is also important. Gorebyss, for example, will have never been obtainable for me, because I didn't have friends to trade with. Even if I did, it didn't seem worth the effort.
Klinklang deserves better. Only EIGHT physical moves in its SwSh movepool. Mostly normal with ONE dark. Signature steel move has 85 accuracy. A former signature move Shift Gear gives +1 Attack and +2 Speed, essentially giving Rayquaza's Attack combined with Deoxys-Nyoom's Speed. The gears got did dirty
One of my favorite under appreciated Pokémon is Sigilyph. It’s a Psychic Flying type with a base stat total of 490, it’s one of the few Pokémon in gen 5 with good speed, and it has Magic Guard, so you can do some crazy stuff like bringing it out while stealth rocks are around, give it a life orb with no downsides, put it on a sandstorm team without worrying about the damage, and give it a fire orb so you have immunity to other statuses, because you won’t take burn damage, and you don’t need that attack stat anyway. It’s also one of the few gen 5 Pokémon (the region full of Pokémon with absurd level requirements for evolution) that doesn’t evolve, so you don’t need to worry about it slugging through most of the game.
I love sigilyph but it’s just outshined by reunicluss or gothitelle most of the time. Even then it gets the gen 5 physic type treatment of being against the highest density of dark types in any gen(to my knowledge… why does gen 5 have so many dark type trainers)
A fairly unpopular mon I like is Watchog. It's grumpy in a cute way, but people don't realise it's yellow body highlights glow! Explaining why it gains access to Flash/Confuse Ray etc.
Beheyeem is such a weird Pokémon. I mean, i used one in my team on my first playthrough. And, i guess like everyone else, i always remember the first team i sued in each game the most. But every time i try toracll my team always forget him. Its like "I pick Oshawott as my starter, then i got Sawk, then Swaddle, Sandile, Litwick and... Klink ?"
3:06 i thought it was Ash's Pikachu's wish to not evolve? In the original Anime when Ash tried to used a Thunderstone on his Pikachu, Pikachu denied and Slapped his hand away.
They're from gen 9 so there may be some "New mons bad, old mons good" bias, but I think the future Paradoxes are very underappreciated. They've been upgraded/modified from the originals in a lot of different ways, but many of these are still very obscure due to only being visible if you use a handful of specific moves, and the only ones that are common knowledge right now are Iron Bundle's spring-loaded head and the obvious Iron Valiant's lightsaber. You'd think their dex entries would mention these changes like they do for other mons (e.g. Clodsire's spikes), but instead you get random blurbs about athletes on life support and Hydreigon intercoursing with a robot. They're a group of Pokemon with their fair share of merits, that are cursed by having said merits being unreasonably hard to access _in their own debut games._
Honestly, I find the past paradoxes cooler, but the future ones are _creepier,_ and there’s equal value in both. Robots and living machines are a personal TERROR of mine. For some people, it’s dolls or puppets, but for me it’s giant hunks of sentient but unfeeling metal. It’s kinda a shame that *all* of the future ones got the lazy ‘future = robot!’ treatment, but the first few I saw were reeeeally effective at freaking me out, and I appreciate them for it. 🤖
@@Asm0d3u5 In general, the "main" changes are on the big neon parts, and there are "secondary" changes on non-neon ones. - Iron Treads' trunk is now an actual wheel which rolls independently, and the legs can withdraw into the body to make a sphere, so the Pokemon is like a monowheel now. - Aside from the head, Iron Bundle has also had its bag turned into a snow cannon, which doubles as means of propulsion, and its feet are skis to take advantage of that (shown in a couple of its TCG arts and the run animation). - Iron Hands' palms are defibrillators in reference to Hariyama's old signature move Smelling Salts (called Resuscitation in JP) as seen when using Thunderbolt, plus the hands themselves have a much longer range for physical attacks. - Iron Jugulis' side heads are also detached, but instead of being just range extension they act like homing drones, which can be sent at the enemy and retrieved later as seen during Dragon Tail. There's a possibility that they have their own brains unlike with Hydreigon, but that's not confirmed. - Iron Moth's wings aren't needed for flight, so they're now a sun-related device (likely solar panels but could also be lamps or something else) as they're combined into a sun shape to fire certain attacks such as the Beam moves and Bug Buzz. Also, its legs are missiles supplied from inside its body, as shown in its "rare" Synchro Mode attack animation and the TCG art. - Lightsaber aside, Iron Valiant's chest spike is now a gun that extends to shoot attacks like Shadow Ball or Psybeam (Gardevoir's side of the mon). Plus, its upper body can rotate independently from the lower one letting it perform walking spin attacks, another one from the "rare" Synchro attack animation. - The blades of the Iron Swords of Justice have been adapted to each member's role: Virizion is the fast one, so Iron Leaves gets 3 slim longswords; Terrakion is the strong one so Iron Boulder gets one giant sword/axe; Cobalion is the middle ground so Iron Crown gets 2 medium-sized horns, which are also the only ones with a ranged attack since it's the leader. Speculation-wise, the latter two spin their heads while fainting, which could be used together with said blades to make a drill (for Boulder) or a 360° projectile turret (for Crown), but that's unconfirmed. Yes, I've spent too much time looking into them.
@@bluekirby_64 Somehow knew about most of them, except Iron Jugulis, Iron Valiant's gun heart spike, and Iron Moth! Thank you, this makes them so much cooler!

idk why people don't like Raichu. Design-wise it's better in every way compared to pikachu (The aololan form just looks dumb to me, he looks like he's made of rubber), It's not exactly a strong pokemon but it's good enough to have on your team while Pikachu needs a special item to make him viable. I've loved Raichu ever since I was little and never understood why everyone sleeps on it. The only reason I don't use it more in playthroughs is simply because getting a Pikachu in the first place is either too tedious or by the time I get one, I already have a better pokemon on my team.
Ever since I first got beheeyem in gen 5 I always adored it’s dex entries and use in the anime. It always came along as so cryptic and mysterious but undeniably powerful. Like a being who could exploit your every weakness by learning everything about you (hence Analytic as it’s ability) Then when gen 6 came out and malamar was brought into existence and basically stole beheeyems thunder/gimmick by hypnotizing and erasing people’s memories through flashing lights, I got so immensely upset, especially when malamar became popular. It really felt like nobody even knew about beheeyem.
How about Minior? Appeared in ONE area in Gen 7 and then didn't appear again until SV DLC. Almost literally a fallen star. Gorgeous colored cores, a black shiny, and a gimmick that bodied the DLC champion. Shell Smash until below half health then Explosion. Bonus points for holding a Life Orb. Cosmic Power, Acrobatics, Power Gem, a fair 100 in both offenses or both defenses depending on health... I only wish they kept the altered Home shinies.
Speaking of overlooked older siblings, Peyton Manning, the Hall of Fame quarterback and biggest commercial pitchman athlete since Michael Jordan has an older brother, Cooper, who had a medical condition in college that kept him from playing competitive football
You cant talk about underappreciated pokemon without talking about the lake trio, but then again people forget about them often. Absolute cutie pies of legendaries that are important to the story in gen 4 and pla with some connections to cool characters, with some pretty cool dex entries. Theyre triplets that drive humanity, but in pla, its described that if someone upsets them they will drain their respective gifts to make them husks of their former selves or puppets. I will defend them with my life Azelf is one of my favourite pokemon ever
So many of the best pokemon don't get the appreciation they deserve! And I love that you did Gorebyss because Lumineon is the *poster child* for forgettable water-types, to the point the Clamperl line is completely forgotten about, and I just love the lore that is very unappreciated, same with Beeheeyem, so mysterious and creepy
Pyukumuku actually does have some cuteness to it so I can see why the duo chose that. Plus that stress ball idea might still pop off. Maybe in Japan only but I digress
Bruh, what is this narrative of Ash actively working against Pikachu evolving? As far back as the Surge episode, Pikachu didn’t want that noise. Ash is being a respectful friend and trainer.
I think that the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games have really helped with my, and undoubtedly other people's, impressions of under-appreciated Pokémon. Beeheeyem are actually fairly important characters in the story of Super Mystery Dungeon, and the series has given me better appreciation of Pokémon like bidoof, chatot, sunflora, dunsparce, torkoal, and xatu by giving them a bit of extra character.
Poor Raichu. As if being overshadowed by the mascot of the biggest multimedia franchise in the world was already bad enough. He is also overshadowed by his baby form Alola form all 9 Pika Clones and Mimikyu and all unique forms of Pikachu such as all 5 Cosplay Pikachu Pikachu's Gigantamax form and more
One of the things I rlly like on the pokemon anime/movies is that the trainers have non meta pokemon and still kick ass, not everyone have a Garchomp and swarm of Beedrills is terrifying even if you have a Charizard with you.
In the case of beheeyem I think the reason it’s so undervalued is cause of how prominent dark types are in gen 5 and it also just shows up at the same time as litwick and the angry candle is just more memorable
Raichu was my favorite Pokemon for most of my life because i'm an older sibling and felt more discarded growing up because of it. It's still my 2nd favorite next to Shaymin.
Cottonee is one of my favorite Pokemon. I say this because it was the first Pokemon I ever had. In elementary school (3 or 4 grade), my friend at the time gave me my first Pokemon card, which was a Cottonee, and I'll probably always remember how happy I was that day.
One of my favorite underappreciated pokemon is Boltund, it's so cute and i also love Yamper, when playing Pokemon Shield he was a valuable member of my team, i wish people could love it more.
Even with recency bias, I don't see anyone talk about Lokix. That's wild to me, since the whole extra switchblade-y set of legs is insanely cool, and it's also a good first impression user.
I did a playthrough with a Shiinotic once. Then I battled my friend with it. He found it so infuriating and he needed several Pokémon just to take it down. Strength Sap is a helluva drug.
I've always liked Gorebyss and Huntail ever since I saw them in Emerald as a kid. Them being exclusively trade evolutions helped add some mystic qualities to them, since I never had a link cable, and them being evolutions to Clamperl also added to their charm since me and my siblings all loved finding Clamperls in the underwater areas. Nowadays, I wish that they had ways to stand out more from the wave of mono-Water mons that have been piling up in Pokemon. Shell Smash was a good start, but they still ended up ultimately outclassed by Cloyster and Blastoise, who have more Speed, better overall defenses, and in Cloyster's case an ability and moveset combo that really let it be a team sweeping menace. With Clamperl not only evolving with its exclusive items, but also getting actual stat boosts from holding them - unlike a lot of other items specific to single evolution lines (Electrizer, Magmarizer, Protecter, etc) - one idea I had was to let those items boost the evolutions as well, just to a lesser extent. Deep Sea Scale could boost Gorebyss's Sp. Atk by 1.5x, while Deep Sea Tooth could boost Huntail's Attack by 1.5x (I never understood why Deep Sea Tooth, the item that evolves Clamperl into its physical attacking counterpart, boosts its _Sp. Atk_ while Deep Sea Scale boosts _Sp. Def,_ which is the exact same between both evolutions, but it's whatever). That way, Gorebyss at max Sp. Atk investment could have Sp. Atk equal to ~195 base Sp. Atk, and Huntail at max Attack investment could have Attack equal to ~180 base Attack. This would allow them to put serious hurt in with both Swift Swim under rain and especially after a Shell Smash, but would be balanced by them still being naturally slow and being very susceptible to moves like Knock Off and Trick.
I will ALWAYS remember Shiinotic, and happily let Spore+Dream Eater live rent-free in my head. Used one during a playthrough, and it worked wonders for me.
Wishiwashi is SO cool. A sardine Pokemon that takes their schooling instinct and makes it really awesome, the absolute weakest Pokemon ever transforming into a hivemind war submarine with Legendary-tier stats. He holds a special place in my heart for tanking Ultra Necrozma at 1 HP with Affection twice in a row and taking him down in Solo Form.
Beheeyem is my fave Pokémon of all time and Pyukumuku is up there too! I love Shiinotic too it’s so creepy and weird it really fits the creepy side of fairies.
Oh I adore pyukumuku! Also has a fantastic shiny. I never knew how to use it in battle but I always thought he was a cute little guy. I had an orphan sock back in the day that I made a pyukumuku plush out of since I thought it’d be easy
I've had the same experience with Amoonguss. It's a giant tank with okay defenses 70 Def and 80 SpDef in base stats, but 114 HP stats. Using an 85 SpA stats with something like Giga Drain and then Toxic makes it hard to deal with this shroom, almost requiring a OHKO.
My favorite Pokémon is Stoutland, not sure if it’s underapretiated since it’s the star of the black and white 1 speedruns, but still I feel like people always overlook my sweet little Yorkshire
All the ones that deserve to be appreciated also include: Exploud, Cacturne, Furret, Ariados, Masquerain, Armaldo, Lanturn, Banette, Grumpig, Beartic, Mandibuzz, Gourgeist! This is just a few honestly.
Glad I'm not the only one saying this, but will also chime in that Beheeyem is already one of my favorite pokemon. 😊 Such a cool design! I love his little coat lol.
I really like klefki and luvdisc. Like, I'm not going to pretend that they're good competitively, but I think they're great examples of a kind of "elegantly simple" visual design. They're cute and appealing despite there not being a lot of different parts to look at!
Sigilyph was my first shiny, and I've loved it ever since. Also, weird mandela effect, I swear Sigilyph had a counterpart pokemon, does anyone else remember something like that?
I was considering using a Beeyehem next time I play BW or it's sequel. In general I hope to have the opportunity to try move unused Pokémon in the future
When Pyukumuku was revealed I fell in love. Then I caught one in my Sun playthrough planning to put it on the team. Then I realized it doesn't learn moves that are useful in a regular playthrough, and my heart was broken 🥺
It’s crazy to me that most Pokemon on this video are probably less popular than Trubbish, the trash bag Pokemon people used to hate only for people now defending it by calling it “underrated”. If Trubbish is “underrated” and you are a Pokémon that’s less popular than that, then you truly are overlooked by most people.
I do really like pyukumuku and shiinotic. For pyukumyuku it doesnt learn a single attaking move besides counter which is such as funny And I love shiinotic for how incredibly creepy it is. That is my favourite aspect about a lot of fairy types. The open parallels to real world fey stories really influences it to make the fairy type tied in first with ice as my favourite.
I get weird looks because yes, I love Arcanine, Feraligatr, Corviknight and Boltund… But I love Smeargle and Kecleon and Cramorant just as much, if not maybe more and I’ll never not show them the undying love they deserve. And no, I don’t play competitively. I just love everything about what they are, stats or otherwise.
Not many people speak about Sigilyph, guess because it's more weird than cute or cool, but I appreciate it thanks to being pretty good for Unova runs You might argue it's lore as an ancient guardian also gives it more flare that it might seen at first
Thanks for having us, this was a great time! Pyukumuku forever

Raichu is a world champion used to win the 2016 world championships
Pikachu doesn't even want to evolve
Ash left the choice of whether to evolve to beat Surge up to Pikachu.
You forgot to mention the fact that Gumshoos unintentionally looks like a certain president we don't like to talk about.
I don't care that they denied the design inspiration. That design was 100% intentional.
@@GlacierStripez "Make Alola great again!"
I like him.
I also made a ferret OC and gave a sketch to my mom, she colored him like a Gumshoos and that amused me.
it did lead to an entertaining joke for a while
A fairly unpopular mon I like is Watchog. It's grumpy in a cute way, but people don't realise it's yellow body highlights glow! Explaining why it gains access to Flash/Confuse Ray etc.
As much as I’ve hated on Watchog in the past, it does have a certain charm to it!
I like watchog solely because it looks like goldy the gopher
And then made Pikachu able to Gmax, therefore showing it can't evolve
Finally someone with a similar opinion to me
Ooh, what kind of upgrades/modifications do the future Paradox Pokemon have? Other than Iron Bundle or Iron Valiant, obv
Fun fact that makes Gumshoos and the things you said about it make even more sense: "gumshoe" literally means "detective"
lanturn is one of my favorite unappreciated mons! no one talks about how cool it is :)
It's also actually pretty good! Just too late to be useful
The roggenrola and solosis lines
i just discovered these channel im definitely binging everyone’s videos, it’s full whimsy and unseriousness but still full of passion that i really missed from Poketubers im excited to eat it all up along with DeliciousJames vids!
i been appreciating the under appreciated, my unironic favorite pokemon has always been heatmor
Honestly Gorebyss and Shiinotic are among my favourite 'mons. Shiinotic especially, since I'm all for slightly creepy fairy types
Even creepier than Trevenant... _(shudders)_
idk why people don't like Raichu.
I love Raichu, it's one of my favorites.
Pikachu better, take your pokemon co. mandated pills.
Also raichu is lame.
@@ratatouilledrinksclorax9897 to each their own.
Ever since I first got beheeyem in gen 5 I always adored it’s dex entries and use in the anime. It always came along as so cryptic and mysterious but undeniably powerful. Like a being who could exploit your every weakness by learning everything about you (hence Analytic as it’s ability)
Then when gen 6 came out and malamar was brought into existence and basically stole beheeyems thunder/gimmick by hypnotizing and erasing people’s memories through flashing lights, I got so immensely upset, especially when malamar became popular.
This was so chaotic and I’m here for it
Favorite Beeheeyem set was Cosmic Power, Charge Beam, Recover, and Psyshock. Was so good
Same but swapped Psyshock for stored power
@MadMalMan it probably did get stored power recently, will keep that in mind next time it's in a game
I've been running it in showdown with psychic, flash cannon, energy ball, and shadow ball. I'll have to try that out though
And I love that you did Gorebyss because Lumineon is the *poster child* for forgettable water-types, to the point the Clamperl line is completely forgotten about, and I just love the lore that is very unappreciated, same with Beeheeyem, so mysterious and creepy
does anyone know the song at 4:40?
Gorebyss and Huntail are pretty awesome! Too bad they are so difficult to get, and use.
Fun fact “gumshoe” is also slang for detective 😮
Pyukumuku actually does have some cuteness to it so I can see why the duo chose that. Plus that stress ball idea might still pop off. Maybe in Japan only but I digress
Hmm. *porygon?*
Bruh, what is this narrative of Ash actively working against Pikachu evolving? As far back as the Surge episode, Pikachu didn’t want that noise.
Ash is being a respectful friend and trainer.
Gorebyss feels like the closest thing we could get to a pokemon actually existing in our world. And thats what i call scary
I always thought Shiinotic was a Gen 8 Pokemon because of that town in SS (Ballonlea). That was the first place I saw it too.
that's why it's called GOREbyss
2:33 Shell Smash? Baton Pass?
You mean Smash or Pass?
I really love simisear, warmadam trash cloak and swoobat ❤
2nd evolutions are every often frogot upon. After knowing swadloon is a bug wrapping itself in a blanket i love that guy
2 of my favourite poke channels I've discovered in the past year ❤ the crossover we didn't deserve but DEFINITELY needed
He is also overshadowed by his baby form Alola form all 9 Pika Clones and Mimikyu and all unique forms of Pikachu such as all 5 Cosplay Pikachu Pikachu's Gigantamax form and more
One of the things I rlly like on the pokemon anime/movies is that the trainers have non meta pokemon and still kick ass, not everyone have a Garchomp and swarm of Beedrills is terrifying even if you have a Charizard with you.
i will never forget pyukumuku, it's part of my cute lil' fellas trio, the other two being snom and pincurchin
Actually Ash caries thunderstone for few seasons just to keep Pikachus options opened.
In the case of beheeyem I think the reason it’s so undervalued is cause of how prominent dark types are in gen 5 and it also just shows up at the same time as litwick and the angry candle is just more memorable
I love shinotic the savior of my sword nuzlocke always will be a favorite of mine
Raichu was my favorite Pokemon for most of my life because i'm an older sibling and felt more discarded growing up because of it. It's still my 2nd favorite next to Shaymin.
The entire Gumshoos bit was pure comedy genius.
Pyukumuku, one of my go to for catching legendaries. As to how, resilience and the move Soak. Latter of which makes catching with net balls easier.
Cottonee is one of my favorite Pokemon. I say this because it was the first Pokemon I ever had. In elementary school (3 or 4 grade), my friend at the time gave me my first Pokemon card, which was a Cottonee, and I'll probably always remember how happy I was that day.
Beheeyem also evolves at level 42. Which is also a reference to Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
This would allow them to put serious hurt in with both Swift Swim under rain and especially after a Shell Smash, but would be balanced by them still being naturally slow and being very susceptible to moves like Knock Off and Trick.
maractus, I found out they existed recently and wow they are so cute! such a good design!
“ANY POST UNOVA POKÉMON GAME” let’s go we all hate the switch garbage
Sandslash should be on this list
SKITTY AND DELCATTY MENTIONED. 12:50
SKITTY IS MY FAVOUTIE!
Came from the deliciousjames video, was not disappoined!
Seaking is easily my favorite underappreciated pokemon. Its such a good one
Beheeyem is my fave Pokémon of all time and Pyukumuku is up there too! I love Shiinotic too it’s so creepy and weird it really fits the creepy side of fairies.
The Pyukumuku segment was pea comedy 🤣
Pyukumuku is indeed my favourite on this list, it is very friend shaped and at the pinnacle of pokemon design
Squishy round baby is absolutely peak Pokémon Design!
Oh I adore pyukumuku! Also has a fantastic shiny. I never knew how to use it in battle but I always thought he was a cute little guy. I had an orphan sock back in the day that I made a pyukumuku plush out of since I thought it’d be easy
Dude I used to play Pokemon Brick Bronze (it’s a Pokemon fangame) on Roblox and and the 3rd Gym Leader’s Gorbis always made me cry.
Pyukumuku used Pull My Finger!
Beheeyem didn't get its Super Mystery Dungeon mention here. Are we forgetting everything they did to the player lol
All the ones that deserve to be appreciated also include: Exploud, Cacturne, Furret, Ariados, Masquerain, Armaldo, Lanturn, Banette, Grumpig, Beartic, Mandibuzz, Gourgeist! This is just a few honestly.
We need a 2-hour long video from DeliciousJames talking just about Pyukumuku's butthole mouth.
For pyukumyuku it doesnt learn a single attaking move besides counter which is such as funny
And I love shiinotic for how incredibly creepy it is. That is my favourite aspect about a lot of fairy types. The open parallels to real world fey stories really influences it to make the fairy type tied in first with ice as my favourite.
I get weird looks because yes, I love Arcanine, Feraligatr, Corviknight and Boltund…
But I love Smeargle and Kecleon and Cramorant just as much, if not maybe more and I’ll never not show them the undying love they deserve. And no, I don’t play competitively. I just love everything about what they are, stats or otherwise.
Unappreciated Pokemon that’s all of gen 5 in general the fact GF just passed it over to make Pokémon Z-A speaks for itself
Not many people speak about Sigilyph, guess because it's more weird than cute or cool, but I appreciate it thanks to being pretty good for Unova runs
You might argue it's lore as an ancient guardian also gives it more flare that it might seen at first
It's all fun and games until you see Gorebyss activate Swift Swim
