    Thanks for the vid. For the Folks who had issues to "unload" the bulb, there is a simple trick to discharge without any seal-damaging: Just let the trigger pulled after the last shot, than press the hammer on the firing pin with the thumb of your other hand. The rest of the gas will came out of the barrel. best and savest way to discharge the bulb.

    Great video. Thanks. I have both guns on my desk as I watch this and I agree and disagree with you on several points.First, both slides are cast, I believe. Perhaps there is less or more machining in one than the other. Second, I have found no issues regarding ammo. While the barrel may be rifled, it is not made for a real bullet. It was made for BBs and it/they work well with whatever you feed in. Third, these are crude, but simple. Or simple, but crude. Good luck getting the mag out the first 100 times. I have spent, literally, hours removing and replacing the mag(s). I have also spent time removing and replacing the slide(s). Nothing approaches "smooth" yet, but they're usable. This is probably due to the fact that firing live ammo would work the mechanism more intensly than CO2 BBs. Fourth, be VERY, VERY careful discharging that last bit of gas. Keep firing way beyond the point when you think it's empty. I froze 3 seals no matter how carefully I turned the bulb release screw. And parts, as you said, are RARE. I managed to pick up spare mags for both the gen4 and gen5. And I have several complete seal kits. As for preference, bottom line, to each their own, I think the Gen 4 Nickel is the better gun, but then again I've shot it more. Yet, the Gen 5 trigger guard is a bit more refined and is more comfortable. But I also find the Gen 5 more accurate. Oh! One cool thing you failed to mention is that these are built with parts with matching serial numbers: Frame, slide, and mag. How cool is that? Last thing, I believe that is not wax paper, but chemically treated paper that inhibts corrosion.

    • @mrtrek64
      @mrtrek64  8 років тому +1

      +joe z Thanks for the information. And the very same thing happen to me regarding the seal. I thought my bulb was empty, and when removing, it dislodged the seal from the clip. I managed to get it back in without incident. But it was a lesson learned. So you have no issues with jam ups with the lead? Interesting. Maybe I'm using the wrong brand. And I should have mentioned that these guns aren't going to win any awards for accuracy to be sure. That isn't the reason one would purchase this. I just love them all. As of now, I own 3 Generation 5's and 1 Generation 4. Hopefully, I'll come across some of the older Generations in the future. But good luck with that , right? :)

    I live in Europe, and it's possible to buy spares and mods on ebay direct from Baikal. The improved discharge valve, and BB cantering valve block are worthwhile investments. They make these guns shoot way better. I think these guns were just originally made for Makarov enthusiasts rather than actual shooters, so they could own a gun as near as possible to the original without falling foul of licencing laws.

      @@mrtrek64 I've seen the gen 6, but it's not a blowback. I have a nickel gen 4 (strangely a 2018, but I guess it's because it's nickel that it's gen 4 not gen 5). I'm no expert, but I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that the Gen 5 are made from recycled pistols which have been converted to air pistols. These recycled pistols could 5-8 years old before they find their way to the factory for conversion. Alot of the Gen 5's do show wear, especially on the Bakelite grips

    same thing happen to me with gammo lead. it s too many jammed.

  • @alexspareonetoo8755
    @alexspareonetoo8755 2 роки тому

    Ive been using the Gamo lead in my Makarov for years without a problem. I suggest its about the poor cp0nsistancy in Russian manufacturing. Photographers on Russoan cameras say their great "if ypu get a good one"...I had a Lomo which literaly fell to pieces in my pocket. I love the Baikal pistol, ,ine looks like the black one but with grips like the chrome one.

    • @mrtrek64
      @mrtrek64  2 роки тому

      Someone made a pretty clever suggestion which worked out well for me. The reason for the jam-ups was simple. The lead bb's lose their shape under their own weight and compression when they are loaded into the magazine. It was suggested that I load a steel bb between every 3rd lead one.
      This formed a barrier that stopped the lead bb's from becoming oblong. It worked out good. But at this point, it really doesn't matter all that much because I've shot my Mak's enough to be happy with them and they now sit proudly in their original boxes as part of my collection. I now purchase and collect PCP's. I just bought an FX Dreamline which now dominates my shooting time
      :).
      But I now have 7 Maks in my collection
      3- Gen 5's
      2- Gen 4's
      2-Gen 1's
      I know I went a bit overboard..but hey..they're Makarov's !! LOL :)

    How much power those guns have? The most CO2 weapons with 3,0 to 7,5 joule are very boring. I expect more of a russian made pistol, espacially german Co2 are very weak when it comes to firepower, because in germany only 7,5 joule airguns are allowed and most of them are much weaker.

    • @mrtrek64
      @mrtrek64  Рік тому

      It doesn't matter where the gun is made or whether or not it's a replica. If it's CO2-powered then it's a short-range backyard plinker, nothing more. I would say the Maks shoot about 350FPS out of the box. If you upgrade with a different valve and other items you might get about 400 fps out of it depending on temperature.
      When you purchase a Makarov, you're not buying it for its power and accuracy. It's a bb gun that is made like no other and is purchased for its unsurpassed craftsmanship as compared to other CO2 guns, not its power.
      If you want power and accuracy you have to start looking into rifles. Start with a springer and if you like it move up to a PCP. There is NOTHING like shooting a good PCP air rifle.

    • @Afterthefallout55660
      @Afterthefallout55660 Рік тому

      @@mrtrek64 Yes I agree with you nothing goes over a good PCP :). But if a another question about the replica. If any of the gun parts are made from the original Makarov manufacturer, is it possible to modifie the gun into a sharp version of the makarov with parts of the original 9mm Makarov made in russia, if you have a permission for firearms? That would be interesting :)

    • @mrtrek64
      @mrtrek64  Рік тому

      @@Afterthefallout55660 I'm sure if you have the machining skills to do it can be done. But at a significant effort and cost. It's not as easy as we would believe. So to answer your question...difficult..but not impossible. :)

      @Afterthefallout55660 Рік тому

      @@mrtrek64 Thank you for your opinion about this delicate topic. I also think that this is possible,- For my understanding you have to change the barrel, the hammer, because they carved some parts of it out and you have to fix the missing blow back system as well as the magazin and if its necessary the grip of the pistol.
      I think the missing blow back is the hardest part of the whole upgrade.
      The question is which Generation of the Baikal Co2 Makarov is the best one for this projekt? I'm not sure but I think the older Generations from the early 2000s are better for this as the newer ones after 2010.
      But I'm honest I don't have a clue which Generation of the Baikal Makarov is the most authenic one of all pistols they made.

    Hi Sir how much price is pistol pistol

    • @mrtrek64
      @mrtrek64  2 роки тому

      At the time I purchased them they were like 200 each if I remember correctly. Now???? Because of all the new customs laws placed into effect by the Trump administration, they are now impossible to even sneak into the U.S..
      Any package entering the U.S. must now have a label on the box that reveals the items inside the box. If the robot finds a sensitive item it gets pulled by customs and 99 percent of the time it will not be returned.
      So now customs don't even need a warrant or reason to open a box. The sticker on the box tells them exactly what's in the box. If the seller gets caught lying, it's like a 10,000 fine or something.
      But to answer your question, here in the U.S. where we can no longer import these bb guns the prices have skyrocketed as they have become very sought after collectibles. But in Europe, you can buy one for like 150.00 dollars.
      I own 2 Generation 1's in new condition which would most likely grab at least 800 each. 2 Generation 4's, 3 Generation 5's.
