I remember when this video came out. I started making potato cakes immediately using your flip method. I spread tomato paste and smoked paprika on after the flip so that it warms up. I love these things nearly four years later. I'm glad the video popped up in my feed again.
that awesome!!
This look exactly like tortilla de patata I used to eat in Spain except you’re not using eggs and a crapload of oil! Gotta try this tomorrow! I’ve definitely used that flip trick - very nifty!
As an over food addicted yet weight vegan, you decision to " go potato" to over come your food addiction is of particular interest to me. Your videos are great and journey is inspirational!
Thanks for the support! :-)
You look younger and your skin looks great. You are doing a great job! Keep it up!!!!
"Relax people! Just eat your spuds!" HAHA. That needs to be on a T-shirt. I need to try making that potato cake. Looks so frigging yummy ;-)

I had potato cake today with some vegan gravy and a side-dish of romaine lettuce with zero fat dressing. It was delicious!
sounds great, well done!!
I'm so happy for you and so proud!
I'm definitely making sweet potatoes with sweet chili sauce tomorrow.
Greetings from Austria! I found you today and am so excited! You re so real and such an inspiration!!! God bless you and keep being just the way you are
Thanks for the support Sandra! :-)
I am loving watching this challenge, and your progress. You are looking amazing!!
Thanks!
That flip is fantastic!
Potato cake looks so delicious 😋 Love the flippin method ingenious!!
It's so good!
you have given me some hope & inspiration. i'm going to start a spud challenge from tomorrow. 😊 tried everything else 😕 luv my food...is a struggle. fingers crossed though. luv watching ur vids. well done on your hard work. keep it up. 😊
Good luck!
You look so healthy and energized. Keep up the good work!
+Felicia T (Amateur Hour) Thanks!
I'm looking forward to watch the 'day one - video' after you did this for a whole year :) I think that it will be the second best part for you too, right after feeling just gr8 of course ;)
+Sonja G yes I hadn't thought about that! Will be very interesting to look back in time. Things have already changed for me in ways that I couldn't have dreamed about... and I still have 10 months to go!!
Have only watched a few of your videos but I find it amazing. We can see the change in you already. You look much younger! Your cholesterol must be fantastic by now. I will keep watching....and since I am German let me know if you ever need a new Kartoffel creation. My whole people are sustained from spuds. I myself hate them though...I would lose so much weight. LOL
Thankyou :-)
Pretty interesting man, best of luck. I wish you all the best!
Thankyou!
Have you tried a mash of sweet potato and white potato together? I personally love the combo! I also cube white cooked potato and drizzle with sweet chili sauce - quick yummy simple potato salad style meal!
I haven't tried, sounds yummy!
Making this tonight :) thanks for the 💡 💕🤙🏼
enjoy!
I found your channel from the webinar with Dr. McDougall. I will be giving this a try for the "academic summer" months in Thailand. I do 2 potato meals daily with 1 brown rice meal but I want to go fully potatoes.
Good luck!
Wow! good job! I am going to do this!
Awesome! Let me know if I can help. I do food addiction coaching these days, book in for a FREE intro coaching call here - spudfit.com/store/#personalCoaching
The variety of spud dishes is limited by the imagination. All the potatoes can be made savory or sweet.
I used to make those actually but I put diced onion in the potato,it was called a hash brown, so yummy! Can’t wait to have a
Another!
So good!
That flipping method is genius!
I have a brewer's yeast story. I got some brewer's yeast on the floor when sprinkling it on my food, the stray cat was attracted to the smell, so I now put some on her meals, she loves it and it will build her up before I take her to the *no kill Shelter Glad to see you are using it on your potatoes One day I will get one of those 'granite' skillets, looking at them on Amazon.
pretty much exactly how I am eating........occasionally will sprinkle some cut small bits of veg...spinach, red onion tomatoes peppers but usually too lazy. have made Hannah's "cheese" but prefer BBQ, ketchup and chili or hot sauce...or a mixture of all........best thing is never being without food..if hungry I grab a bowl of spuds
Nice work!
I would love to see one of these videos weekly
I'd love to have the time to do that! I'll try to make another one soon...
+Spud Fit awesome your progress is inspiring
amazing to lose all that weight so quickly and get to eat that quantity ..never hungry ! that's my kind of diet !
No complaints here! :-)
I am obsessed with potato cakes!!!!!!! Love them
So good!
That potato cake looks so yummy, need to make it!
it's pretty damn good!
Oh man I tried making it but failed miserably :S my "non stick" ceramic pan is not so non stick!
What brand do you have?? I need to get yours, looks pretty solid with zero stick without any oil or water!
I found you today and I will begin this today. Can you give please a small list of dips or condiments tha man can find in supermarkets that you used in this journey?
awesome! If you sign up for free at my website then you'll get everything you need via email www.spudfit.com/free-mini-academy/
I'm you're telling me how to eat potatoes and how. Just what I need to loose weight and details. thanks!!!
no worries :-)
Any cravings? Since that's the focus of the project, I'm really interested if/when/what you do. You are amazing! Definitely the face/neck is slimming down. How about front/side pics every month?
No cravings at all since the first week, that's the most amazing thing for me! Hmmm, maybe I'll put some pics up, that's very scary for me though...
Eating simply seems to bring out fears from others....LOL LOL This idea that we need complete nutrition is absurd! Kind of like the same BS as in "complete protein"...LOL Day 73 of potatoes/sweet potatoes/veggies only and thriving! Thank you Andrew!
Plates r amazing things.
haha!
I eat my sweet potatoes like you, Sweet chili sauce is great.
A cook book would be Fantastic! Please?
It would be about 2 pages long! We'll see ;-)
Thanks for your videos. So you eat no other veggies but had different kind of potatoes? Just asking because others say to stick to only one kind of potato.
All kinds of potatoes are good, including sweet potatoes. I usually just go for what ever is cheapest. Please check out www.spudfit.com/faq
do you always leave the skins on your potatos ?? and do you not get enough B12 from the nutritional yeast ? tfs, new subbie by the way
+Livin A Simple Budget Family Life I usually leave the skins on, I supplement B12 too :-) Here's a link to my F.A.Q. page if you'd like to have a read. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful! I didn't know about the B12 spray, I use under the tongue pill. I read that it has to be absorbed in the mouth as the stomach kills the B12. I guess, we get B12 from microorganisms in soil, but our soil is so depleted of minerals we are deficient, ourselves. I remember my Mom saying we have to eat a peck of dirt to be healthy, probably where the saying comes from, getting our microorganisms to stay healthy. I would think eating the skins of potatoes would help, Dad always made us eat the skins 'to be healthy' he would say, that's where the nutrients are.
All makes sense to me.
Soil isn't actually depleted of nutrients, it's depleted of a healthy biome due to pesticide abuse. The nutrients in the soil will last for thousands of years as long as the biome is healthy.
I started yesterday!!!! Yay 328.7 lbs hopefully I can lose quite a bit and I joined a gym yesterday
Awesome! Let me know if I can help! A good place to start is our free membership website, create your account here www.spudfitmembers.com/register
Looks delicious! How do you keep it from sticking? What brand pan are you using?
its a baccarat stone pan.
Thanks! I'm going to look into one :)
can you eat oatmeal with fruit for breakfast? Love potatoes for lunch and dinner!
You can eat what ever you like! If you want to follow the rules of my spud fit challenge then oats and fruit are not spuds :-) You might find this video helpful - spudfit.com/dont-eat-your-greens/
I like you're style ....someone in comments asked oh you should do an ebook ...you answered ..it would be about 2 pages long ...funny and true . Keep on keepin on you look really healthy . Has there been mental benefits as well ? I see you said you have been vegan for 8 years so I'm assuming you were more for the animals and were eating a lot of oils fats . That's all good I've done It for the ethics to but it's time to really do it for our own optimum health as well. Its amazing how the Fritos and the Oreos cravings just vanish the minute you really make a real decision to smash the potatoes no matter what . I'm amazed and I'm only on day 4 , it's just to easy to be true. I add more variety of toppings then you but all plant based of course and key is minimal if any fat.
+jjooeegg1 good luck!
+jjooeegg1 sounds like you're doing well :-)
Question, I was thinking about not washing my organic potatoes before eating to get the dirt and possibly b12. Does this sound absolutely crazy or make some sense😂?
Haha this sounds crazy AND it makes some sense! Personally I'd still wash them, I'd much rather take a B12 supplement than eat dirt ;-)
Wow, who would have thought eating only potatoes would get you looking so amazing after 53 days. Spud man, I really do want to do this since I'm addicted to food as well. But I'm disabled. Do you think people can lose weight with just potatoes and some minimal walking?
In the first months I lost 10kgs without doing any exercise so I'm sure it will work. Good luck! :-)
Andrew do you use mustard? I feel like by my second and third meal of the day I need something to make the potatoes taste different, I'm going on my 2nd week of just potatoes and wanted to see if you use mustard? I mix a ton of mustard with a little ketchup and dip my spuds in.
I don't use mustard but I don't see a problem with it as long as it's got no added at and is kept fairly minimal. Potatoes with a bit of mustard is good... mustard with a bit of potatoes, maybe not ;-)
LOL!!!
where did you purchase your nutritional yeast? I want to know if you bought it offline it's a little pricey at whole foods health store?
I just got it at a health food shop, can't remember how much it cost. It does seem expensive but a packet lasts ages because I only use a little bit at a time.
Could you please give more info. about your fry pan? Brand and where purchased? Thanks
It a granite non stick pan by Baccarat, bought it in some little kitchen shop in a mall in Darwin.
Thanks
My mouth is watering you didn't put anything on the pan water anything you just take the mashed mashed potato and just cook it in the pan? I may try mushing it putting in chopped onions but I wish I could get it looking that crispy!
yes its a non stick pan, nothing needed :-)
But what would you take to work for your lunch,
Anything potatoes! Doesn't matter :-)
Great idea for vegan vegan pizza. Nutritional East contains all B vitamins, l recommend consuming a high quality organic nutritional yeast for anyone attending to do this diet and multivitamin. I am doing it as well.
No need to suplement anything unless you are already deficient when you start doing this. If you intend doing this for an extended period then B12 is the only thing I recommend supplementing.
when i mash them in grinder they become like super sticky like glue. how do i make this thing
I don't know what a grinder is that would make mashed potatoes? I just mash them wiht a hand masher
Please tell me you didn't use any oil?
I don’t use oil
Hey, sorry if you've answered this before - Do you dine out at restaurants much? If so, what do you ask for? Boiled potatoes or potatoes without oil? Can they usually accommodate? Thanks:)
Yes a few times, I jsut ring ahead and ask for a big plate of plain boiled potatoes. It's easy money for restaurants!
+Spud Fit Make the restaurants work for their money. Tell the Head Chef what you need and cannot have and as I know Australia has some of the best Chefs on the planet. A nice layered potatoe lasagna using the nutritional yeast as a base for a cheese sauce you use onion and garlic powder. Knowing what you can eat and what I would be limited to using I can make some great recipes which have never been tasted before. But taste delicious. As a Chef I would not be happy serving a customer or friend just boiled potatoes. No oil I can work with that. I remember having to cook egg fried rice without oil for a customer. Another time cooking Chinese meals with no garlic or onion for 10 people as a one customer was allergic to garlic and onions. Everything had to be garlic and onion free, they phoned before hand with their order. Pride in work is important.
What is your job? Thanks
Ohh do you use turmeric as it give a great holden colour and great for the body. In India a drink is made using turmeric and you can use soy or almond milk, maybe coconut milk and the oil can be coconut oil. Had to take into account you are a vegan so no dairy. Nice to learn more about your diet. Do you not use sea salt at all as this is nutritious and you get iodine, then again potatoes are a great source of iodine. Although I would be worried about goiter. But then again iodine prevents or cures depression. So the potatoes diet would possible be good for people with depression and thinking ptsd as well. This diet looks even more appealing.
Will you stay plant based after your "challenge"? Sorry if you've answered this before :)
That's the plan :-)
Yay yay!!
Omg you were so big then!!!
what kind od PAN do you use? i tried with 3 different non sticks an none od them worked. crunchy part always sticks and makes pancake a mess :(
The brand is Baccarat.
+Karolina Karolina he uses stone coated cookware, I just got a frying pan on AMAZON for 42 American dollars
I went to the link for the 5 free recipes.. and it can't open... Help..
I don't do the 5 free recipes any more, I have this free course instead - spudfit.com/free-mini-academy/
I'm currently #1 as eating the most potatoes on earth,
Because i've been eating potatoes for the past 11 years...
only potatoes for 11 years? Wow!!
@@SpudFit So back then when i was 1 year old, i ate rice and i randomly threw up.
And now i never ate rice and everything like chicken, hamburger and more stuff
My English isn't that good
I have a question, what did you drink while doing this adventure?
Water adn occasional beer
I'm actually surprised sauces like ketchup is allowed. Thinking about the sugar. What about salt?
It's a very small amount of sugar and a very big amount of potatoes so as a percentage it's very small. I also use a minimal amount of salt sometimes.
ok thx! btw I'm assuming the yeast is also to supplement the lack of b12?
Perhaps a weird observation but your face is definitely glowing more since you began. 🙂
Thanks! I personally haven't noticed that, I guess I don't really pay much attention to how my face looks though. I certainly feel better though so it makes sense that it would show in my face I guess :-)
+Spud Fit you also see yourself every day so it's easy to miss changes like that. You're doing really well. Keep up the good work. 😌
I know you aren't counting calories but if you had to estimate how many calories do you think you are getting in a day?
I'd say close to 3000 cals a day, sometimes more.
What is in the mash?
He says in the video
What about Omega 3? Is it in potatoes?
Yes there is a small amount of fats, including omega 3
Is there milk in your potato mash?
A little bit of soy milk, just enough to make it work.
was you vegan before you started this potato diet and if not will you keep vegan afterwards
Yes I've been vegan for 8 years :-)
spud up
Any reason not to have onions on this diet?
this explains it - ua-cam.com/video/yqcPKqCSh8s/v-deo.html
They’re not potatoes?
Do you use salt?
last year I did but I've stopped this year. Check out www.spudfit.com/f-a-q for lot's of info.
For my self putting on weight has nothing to do with what I eat and everything to do with how much I eat and how active I am, obviously nutritious food plays a large roll in general health but not for weight. Just my opinion.
I see in a question below you are going to stick to a plant based diet after this is over, a plant based diet will be great for weight loss also, so my question is why not just eat a plant based diet now instead of just potatoes?
+Kyee71 That's a big question which I feel I did a good job of answering in this article, if you feel like a read.... au.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt/man-who-is-eating-only-potatoes-for-a-year.html
try pizza sauce on your potato pancakes WAAYYYY better than ketchup...
I tried to make a potato cake in a non-stick pan, but it just stuck to the pan. What am I doing wrong? I just can't make it work lol
sounds like your non-stick pan isn't actually non-stick ;-)
@@SpudFit I think you are right lol. Are you using high heat or low? I'm gonna give it another go on another pan. Wish me luck 😐
@@PerpetuallyAnnoyed high heat, remember you are still cooking potatoes so they take much longer than pancakes.
How about baked potato soup?
I prefer food you need to chew.
The reason for my question is because I wanted to inquire about eating cream, dairy etc to make the soup. Variety.
+gerry3x definitely none of that stuff, it's all junk. Check out the FAQ page at www.spudfit.com for more answers to questions :-)
I'm really impressed by this! I'm genuinely surprised you aren't sick of potatoes yet, I know you're vegan so this won't help but I really love oven roast potatoes in honey :) im just wondering I've only come across your videos but I see you're wearing a wedding ring so I'm just assuming you live with your wife so just wondering doesn't having her food in the house make it a lot harder for you? :)
You oven roast potatoes in honey? I've never heard of that, I guess it would work with maple syrup though... I'll give it a try. Yes the biggest surprise of all to me is that I'm not sick of potatoes at all, even though my wife and son's food is still in the house. I can't really explain it, it's just the way it is :-)
I don't know if you can get it in the UK, but there's a Vegan Honey called Bee Free Honee & it's delicious! It's basically apple syrup. Mary's Test Kitchen has a recipe to make your own. I used to be a huge honey love & was so happy to find this alternative.
Do you ever eat any vegetables? ....or just spuds?
Just spuds, you might like to read my FAQ page in my website www.spudfit.com
bak with you
great!
👍🌹😉
Cruisin
Do you drink coffee or tea? If not, dont you miss it mr fit spud? ")
I've never liked any hot drinks. I have an FAQ page at www.spudfit.com which has lots of answers to lots of questions, you might find it helpful :-)
Looks like ~2800 calories - seems plenty
At least. Feels like plenty.
chris voight did this now you will see
Yes I've read about him. He did it for two months and did very well.
But you did it for a year that's amazing I'm on day two and I'm ready to eat some potatoes. We have Wendy's and they sell them for $1.00 with low fat sour cream omg the best!
nicetightsize8jeans I had some Wendy's spuds while I was there, great! Careful with the sour cream though, even the low fat versions are still very high in fat. Also lots of other nasties to avoid.
Spud Fit lol ill keep that in my
I listened to your interview on Corine Nijjer’s podcast and knew you were vegan before you started this BUT, since watching your videos from the beginning, you’re 53 days in and this is the first time you’ve said the word vegan and it wasn’t even about your own way of eating. Rather the chicken stock was vegan. Goes to show your priorities aren’t in the diet but in the health benefits that come from the diet.
Since I first went vegan back in 2006, it has always been first and foremost about the animals. I did my Spud Fit Challenge for myself though, animal rights was not the reason I decided to do it so it didn't make sense to me to then make it about animal rights later on. Interestingly, far more people have told me that they've gone vegan because of me since I did started Spud Fit than they did before, when I was really trying my best to push animal rights.
Your savoury yeast flakes are probably fortified with B12 anyway.
They are but I'm not confident that's enough so I'm just being cautious. :-)
