It’s honestly bizarre how FNF managed to gain the type of community that it has now. It was literally made to serve as both a blatant sex joke as well as an homage to Newgrounds and it’s niche, edgy, and mature style of content. It’s not really something kids should be exposed to in the first place, yet here we are.

As a longtime Newgrounder, seeing FNF stray so far from its humble beginnings hurts my heart. Pico and the Tankmen being introduced to the game was such a cool and nostalgic surprise.

I'm waiting for FNF's full release after its successful crowd funding campaign. I have respect for the first couple of mods like Tricky and Static and the original songs, however everything I liked got ruined by fans.
The original game, intended to have dirty origins, was polished for preschoolers. Mods stirred more drama, tumblr OCs, more mods for kid gaming trends than anything worth playing, and rhythm game tryhards than fun. Newgrounds became a host for the FNF fandom rather than a revival. And streamers highlighted and catalysed all these problems.
If you want to still enjoy this game, ignore the "fan"dom.

When the game became popular, I was so excited soley because of the crossover aspect. Like "Nice, everyone's hyped to see new weeks! Can't wait to see what Newgrounds characters are next like ENA, Madness and Eddsworld."

•a good game with massive fanbases that have a good storyline and/or very easy to make your own canon
• had a lot of minor fans playing said game
• had a lot of player-made creations
• here comes the p3dos and the edgy kids flocking in likes flies
• said fanbase is in ruins and will recreate from ground up

If I ever have kids, I'll be monitoring the shit out of their internet usage for a while.
I know my younger cousins got pretty into the game. Ages as low as 6. They like the catchy songs and think the animations are cool. They like taking on more difficult songs and feel cool if they can actually beat them. Fortunately they didn’t really engage with the community aspect, they just liked the games and the mods and their interest died out after the next big thing popped up. I can see what would draw children toward the game, even if it’s not made for them.

I used to be part of a the FNF Community. I didn't use Twitter, but I always was listening to the "news channels" for FNF. When the rise of pedos began to start, I didn't know what to say. Then, the big mod creators became pedos. AmorAltra and multiple other mods. Sonic EXE. was the last straw. I basically just dipped, and never said a word. Then, I realized there was even drama about the Kickstarter. I really am just sad FNF had to go this way, with there being drama left and right.

the saddest part about fnf's fan base is easily how it was literally never meant for kids in the first place. The creators had a sense of humor clearly aimed at adults and and teens, and it shows as the game he made is full of it. Not only that, the site it's made on, newgrounds, is nowhere near a place for children. Unfortunately, because of this Game's community, it's full of them. I am not sure how kids were ever attracted to it in the first place but it's really sad. The whole community is a great example of why children should never be allowed on the internet.

Most people got onto newgrounds around middle school and older, and which around the 12 year range. You have bright expressive cartoon characters and slightly edgy situations and scenarios; it attracts this kind of fanbase. You see it all the time with stuff like FNAF and sonic; it acts as a gateway to explore these darker themes and ideas while still having a cutesy "safe" base in the form of cartoon characters. You would have to be severly sheltered to just never come across this stuff at this point.
What's changed nowadays is that Discord, being an unregulated chatting tool, makes it easy to kids who don't know any better to come across and interact with people that don't have the best intentions in mind, and harder still to keep records of.

it's funny how out of all the stories in this video, the one that didn't involve literal minors was the story involving a 4channer making something as intentionally edgy, shocking and offensive as possible to get it off of Gamebanana.
Literally making something that does what the original game does, paying homage to that kind of content from back in the day. The game does it with NG and the mod did it for 4chan, that shit would be expected from there but people were still comically shocked? We all should've had a big laugh when that was found but people freaked out instead. I never really knew about the dangers of social media myself until after age 15, but I remember an older guy sexting me and trying to do roleplay over Instagram, and it started out with what I believe was a 20 questions type game. Now, I look back at it and realize that holy shit it was bad, but what's even worse is the fact that now, there are literal infants online dealing with that stuff and brushing it off as a normal occurrence. I didn't get my first phone until 14, but there are 2 year olds with tablets and iPhones now and it terrifies me to no extent.
I can relate to this so hard. As a teen, you desperately want to feel mature and acknowledged, so you think it's fine to engage sexually with people online, only realizing years later how horrific that mindset was. I went through shit online as a 15-16 year old that genuinely gives me chills to this day. And that was _years_ ago, like you said, it's even worse nowadays

Thats sorta how I feel tbh, I just like to enjoy games that are fun with friends.
My fandom interests are from the old media: DC Comics, Star Trek, and Doctor Who and you can still dip a toe into those and come away relatively unscathed. Fans there can still be fans of those things and not make them the center of their identity. That doesn't mean there aren't still weirdos though but they're easy to avoid.
Sports fandoms are the least strange of all. The MMA fandom is probably the least toxic of all; probably because we're watching even the people we don't like getting kicked in the face. That's worthy of respect no matter how big an asshole someone is. Motorsports fans get carried away sometimes as can followers of football and soccer. The most you're going to see are stupid posts whining about "bias" and shitposts designed to start flame wars. None of the weird psychological and sexual stuff that goes down in other fandoms though.
