Lyrics:
I've called you so many times today
And I guess it's all true, what your girlfriends say
That you don't ever want to see me again
And your brother's gonna kill me and he's six feet ten
I guess you'd call it cowardice
But I'm not prepared to go on like this
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I can't stand losing you
I see you've sent my letters back
And my LP records and they're all scratched
I can't see the point in another day
When nobody listens to a word I say
You can call it lack of confidence
But to carry on living doesn't make no sense
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I guess this is our last goodbye
And you don't care so I won't cry
But you'll be sorry when I'm dead
And all this guilt will be on your head
I guess you'd call it suicide
But I'm too full to swallow my pride
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand losing
I can't, I can't, I can't stand
Can't stand losing you

"And your brother's gonna kill me and he's six feet ten!"
Cracks me up every time I hear it!
Moral of the story - avoid women with tall burly brothers
Same here
I thought he says "fella" until I read the lyrics.

Don’t date the Undertaker’s sister
Classic rock+reggae...
This band is answer...
With a little bit of jazz.
“Rokggae”
And some punk energy
Don't forget punk. These guys were considered punk back in the day when that label was a larger category.
The clash and Sublime fall into this genre as well.
One small detail I really like is that when they sing "I can't stand losin' " multiple times during the chorus, it emphazises that he cares more about the concept of him losing than the actual person he's lost.
Good observation.
In the end, one loves one's desire and not what is desired. F. Nietzsche
It is like that in one’s youth, I think. We hate the idea of failure than the loss of a person themselves.
Ce c’est faire attendre, ce c’est faire desiree...
Maybe not if he is in love
Rock, Reggae, Punk, Jazz, Pop, Soul all infused into perfection!
Stewart Copeland's drumming will never cease to amaze me. One of the best out therw
Jack Wynn Boy, not exactly a second-rate songwriter, either.
Jack Wynn if not one of the greatest drummer of all time period haha
i agree. best member of band
@110425461151907555371 no time this time. i dare anyone to beat those fills. impossible.
Marisa Campbell Love Stewart's play - has to be well up there in Rock Drummers Hall Of Famers!
Their sound is just so original. Even 30 years later it sounds original.
It's getting close to being 40 years old. This song came out in '78
reminds me of bob marley
2
I think somebody, back then, called it "white man's reggae".
Close enough. :-)
older it is, more original it sounds, actually..
Copeland is the greatest poly-rhythmic percussionist/drummer in pop rock. Never bores the listener!
Terry Williams from Dire Straits was a badass drummer too and Rush's Neil Peart too.
@@ubecool454 Don't forget Bruford in that too, he was probably one of the best in general
I idolized this guy. He made me start drumming. Never heard of those other guys until way later.
Mario Duplantier, but copeland is really good
I‘m struggling with depression and each time I have suicidal thoughts I listen to this song. It brings some light irony and helps to cope.
Been there myself dude, you deserve to get better and you are worthy of living.
❤️
Keep Going! Every day is different...
Hope your doing better man
mercies are new every day,
press on
I think every single person can relate to this song, not literally but the hopeless feeling of being rejected by someone you really like.
+Troy Dazzle no
+Troy Dazzle No... I've been in a few relationships and never felt the need to threaten to kill myself to manipulate someone to stay in my life.
+Troy Dazzle @ No reject- just her over protect dad at daddy s girl rubbing her in the wrong way !!!
+Troy Dazzle
I think the song is a very clever bit of lyricism about a self obsessed, egotistical narcissist who doesn't give a shit about her but just wants to be right .. i cant stand losing, i cant losing over & over a bit like your team lol
That's one of the points of life- you have to learn how to don't give a fuck about this person. I also had that problem, but I read a few books and now I am absolutely free. lol It's like- she don't care so why would I? xD Now I am only laughing of it.
I would call Copeland a scientific drummer: not one more strike than needed. Love his playing.
probably the best ever. unbelievable drumming. look at no time this time
ua-cam.com/video/c8Y2QDAT-Z0/v-deo.html
@@clintdavies491 the number #1 spot goes to Rush drummer Neil Peart period.
he's using intuitionistic logic pro
@@securitybase3430 I really hate when people want to rank others. There are many amazing drummers out there.
Most underrated police song. Absolute masterpiece.
By far the best song on their first record, fuck roxanne
@NormAppleton 100 precent agree
indeed
I think you can safely say that for about 3/4 of their compositions...
I guess it's the most obvious thing ever, but I love how the chorus says "I can't stand losing" like he literally can't take a no for an answer or he is just a sore loser, but then adds the "you" to pretend like it's a "romantic" thing or he is talking about he doesn't want to be without her.
Then the last verse makes more sense, he is threatening to kill himself not only because of a heartbreak, but as his last resort to "win" because he literally "Can't stand losing".
duh
@@Randy121360 Like I said. It's the most obvious thing ever.
Totally man, this song is 100% about a narcissist. XD This dude is obsessed with possessing whoever this poor girl is.
Yo Ferb be buff tho
It's also the case with Every Breath You Take. The band really has a style
Reggae was definitely an heavy influence on these guys
+Aaron Alexander Indeed,as they called one of their first albums Regatta de Blanc, meaning White Reggae.
Interesting! I have to give it a listen.
Aaron Alexander dude you're regay
Aaron Alexander that's what I said
Aaron Alexander
Especially prevalent in the drumming - listen out for the hi-hat and rimshots during instrumental parts of their songs, especially this one.
Some of the drumming is very reminiscent of Everett Morton, Jamaican born drummer for The (English) Beat, a Two-Tone ska band, who's first single (Tears Of A Clown/Ranking Full Stop) was released in 1979.
Listen to their debut 1980 album "Just Can't Stop It" - mainly "Mirror In The Bathroom" to hear Morton's drums in full effect.
This song never gets old.
Right
@@ezedelport1233 yes lol
I know lol. It's still probably my favorite (of their's at least) bc of the lyrics n stuff. It's great one
Dot let this song get old
Same as the guy in the song.
Andy Summers makes this band, so level headed no overplaying, ever note and beat has its place
Stuart Copeland is joint best with Summers for me

"I guess you'd call it suicide,
But I'm too full to swallow my pride"
I just love this lyric
Sorry for the dumb question, but what does the lyric mean?
@@costanzo6770 that the guy is so proud that he would rather comit suicide than being friendzoned and also if he suicides the girl would feel guilt and that's what he wants
My favourite band ever. Every song is perfection.
Mine too!
Sheer Perfection 👍🏾🎶
The best
Police had amazing impact for such a short career as a band.
I guess you'd call it suicide, but I'm too full to swallow my pride... wow these lyrics have so much meaning!
lol yeah, some police songs are dark as fuck.
they're still good though :)
Rhiannon Skerry-sloggett it makes em maybe even better :P
lol.
Shut the fuck up
Someone in 2024?
The Police made beautiful music with a drummer, a guitar player, and a bass playing vocalist.
Compared them to today's "musicians" .
is this anyone else's favorite song from the "The Police" or am i the only one?
It's certainly up there.
yea its my fav song
listen to "message in a bottle" or "bring on the night"
This and Spirits In the Material World!
Very hard to pick a favorite out of so many great songs. Spirits is my fave, I guess.
The most relaxing song about commit suicide because a girl rejects you.
Don't do it it's a trick!
bro, its just a girl

Let’s give it up for Andy Summers. Simply amazing piece of this unforgettable band!
Hi I Recommend a song Called called 'The bond Villain' by Robert Nix
Stewert's drumming on this is iconic
the only police we need
i think exactly like you the only good police
I completely agree...
Sure, try calling Sting when someone steals your favorite goat.

Marwan Bayoumi Thank you, kind sir - and right back at ya!
I never once dreamed that I would be able to relate to this song. Life is a bitch.
It can fail sometimes, pal. Heads up and keep going forward! Nothing is lost
They’re not worth the heartache bud, chin up, there are more and more people out there every day. Keep fighting!
Buy a Harley :)
I used this song this song to lyric prank my crush in the end of the prank she told me she is lesbian and she knows that i like her😔
Early on, The Police had that Punk and Reggae mix, it's their best stuff, even though their later stuff was great, their earlier music was more powerful and better, especially that punk sound.
Stewart is just a beast on those drums man!
My dad used to be a huge fan of the police back in the time, so he would always play, between many other songs, every police song ever, so listening back to this always takes me back into when I was a kid. I can't imagine how far it takes my dad
One of the greatest bands of all time hands down
1979 : The Best
2000: Rock Legends
2019 : Hall Of Fame

This is absolutely, by FAR my favorite song by the Police
Yeah, it is really catchy and it has an important meaning, and Sting's glasses are just gorgeous

The Police were the best rock band from the late 1970s through the early 1980s.
I love having the lead singer playing bass!
Still listen to this whole album. It's an all time classic. Peanuts!
This was their best song by far in my opinion
+Medina Sod my favourite was always spirits in the material world
but Roxanne..
+Medina Sod I have a thing for Synchronicity II
Message in a Bottle will always be their best!

Feeder version is soooo much better 👍
It keeps loitering on my mind

Timeless! Love these guys! Ever since growing up in the 80s and their music and sound is still so relevant today
Mi canción favorita de the police nunca me canso de escucharla :D
concuerdo
*The Police are galaxies ahead of most Ska, Reggae and Dub musicians before them, contemporaneously and yet to come*
The drummer is amazing
The Police were my first teenage love. And they STILL make me feel that excitement.
Me too when my dad bought this album on tape just shows how long ago it was I played it that much it was unplayable 😂
Stings best love song always resort to suicide
lol and really funny
Stings suicides always resort to a love song! : P
so did you die, or did you fail to do even that ?
I’m pretty damn sure it’s sarcasm
lol! but I think he had cheered up by a couple of decades later ... "Brand New Day" is very optimistic.
That staccato-like sound of Stewart Copeland's drums, Summers guitar, Sting's bass, and the song's chorus is the hook that reels us in. It's not only the lyrics and subject matter that make it so memorable!
This song reminds me of my mindset so much when I was a kid.
The police write the most psychotic love songs.
40 anni, ma il suono e la bellezza di questa traccia non tramonteranno mai. Grazie Police
1:48 I can't take Sting serious with those glasses 😂
ellielovesbands ikr 😂😂
But can you take him seriously with his hairdo in I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying?
It was more the style in 1979 than it is now.
@@TimothyForbesXXI He used to teach so hence making fun of big professor glasses!
They don't really fit him :/
Why do I feel like this song deserves to be perfectly in a mash-up with Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars and Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye?
Sting is phenomenal. He has a way of coming in at an offbeat that is perfect.
Me encantan las letras locas, sentimentales y obsesivas de Sting.
Que chimba the police!!
Jaja cierto! Obsesivas y me encantan….pero para mí su estilo es genial e ingenioso puesto que se ahorra muchísimo trabajo en las letras y la música llenando dos tercios de cada canción con una frase que se repite con dos o tres notas. Muy efectivo y comercial.
Police songs are really catchy
MsFanmail no cap 🧢

ie good
This version of sting is best. Playful, silly, funny and lighthearted. Solo sting takes himself too seriously.
Thank you!!!🎉
One of the best three man bands without doubt.
Only equalled by The Jam in the Uk although some would say Muse.
If not the best
Green Day too!
Don’t forget Rush!
One of the top-5 bands of all time..
She scratched all his lp records, thats just cold
She's definitely revengeful and not a keeper, if you ask me...
I love the police. Had a crush on sting when i was a kid. Yep losing sucks!
These guys are just too funny to watch😂 That glasses❤😂😂 I love the Police👍
This is one of my favorite bands ever and this song is my favorite by them!
The police were a gift to the earth
What a singer and bassist. Wonderful!
The pain in those lyrics is still so powerful all these years later. April 2019. And we have all felt the pain!!
One of my all-time Police favorites. The subtle yet technical playing is really spot on! I love the chorus....simple as it is!
The raw emotion that comes with it
Love the harmonies from 2:26 onward; the outro to this song always gets me.
Me too. It’s my favourite part.
2:00 one of the best lines ever written
Stewart Copeland, one of the drummers I saw as kid that influenced me to pick up the sticks...
Daniel SCHNEIDER
Very reggae influenced, especially in the instrumental part of this song.
One of their albums translates to "White Reggae" from French, so make what you will of that.
If only his kit weren't so expensive
Just compositionally the best trio ever. Too talented to stay together for decades. Short run. Brilliance. Then done (with a brief reunion in between).
What a fantastic group this was. Sooooo talented. Great voices great musicians. And theses guys bring back so much of my youth. Just outstanding 🐝🥇🚔👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇
Uno de los mejores grupos de la historia
Awesome band and song! How could someone not like this?
Formulaic ditty, with the soul of the drums saving it. The added high harmony is a plus.
Love the harmony
A classic! I remember when I first heard it on radio as I was getting up for school, I fell in love with it, from then I became a massive fan got all the T-shirts. It's also become my ringtone. Their music will live on forever.
Their first and best tune!
Absolutely timeless
Excellent song.
one of the best police songs
This is so catchy and original.. Love this.. I finally got the lyrics❤️
The Police were one of the first bands I was ever into, in the early 80's..... great band, fond memories 😻👍
can't stand losing you
Semplicemente meravigliosa❤️
Gotta love the old Police. I saw them years ago at U. de Montreal, in '78, or '79, I think? It was great to see them in such a small venue.
yeah really..by 84 they were filling up huge stadiums
Me too. I saw them at the McGill stadium. I dont remember much of the concert. it was only after I heard their ghost in the machine that I became a big fan
A very up beat sounding song, very dark subject though... I love it!!
Masterpice!! My favorite The Police s song.
❤❤the great Police..everything they've done over the years and sting as a solo artist has just been phenomenal ❤
Beat is outstanding, love it !!
One of my favorite bands.
Great ! A beat you can’t get out of head 🤗 🎶🎶 Can’t believe this song is sooo old ! Well, maybe I’m just getting old..lol 🎶
Stewart Copeland is one of my biggest influences as a drummer his playing style and technique is so unique which influences a lot of musicians
had this on green vinyl..love it
Come on who’s still listening to this fantastic band in 2022
Music at it’s BEST👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🤣👏👏👏🥇
They are all great in this band.. but damn Copeland's drumming is really something out of this world... it's not often that you hear such creative grooves on really big hits. Everytime I listen to the Police I think how Copeland is amazing.
They are by far one of my favorite late seventies early 80s band ever!
This is a freaking powerfull song, almost dangerous...
