I'm 50 years old now. In 1984 this song was playing on FM stations all around Brazil. I was 16 years then, and that is one of my favorite songs since then! Sooo good times...
I had always thought YES was a one-hit wonder & this song was the hit. I met my first love at Summer camp when I was 14. He would literally eat, sleep & breathe YES were it possible. He had the shirts, he knew all the lyrics; if ever there was a YES superfan he was it. (He even made a huge chalk drawing in my driveway of the 1972 YES logo). I went back to Summer camp every year just to see him. When I turned 18 I was too old to go to camp. I hated the thought that I'd never see him again. A few years later I found him on the internet & we met again. It's true that you never forget your first love. Even though he lives far away & is a husband & father now (I'm honestly surprised that his son's name isn't Jon Anderson) I'll always wish only for his happiness. Sorry for the tangent, back to the story. We were playing billiards one time & they actually unplugged the jukebox because he kept playing YES songs. Who does that?! They were making money off him at $1 a song. SMH. He made a mix tape for me (yep, this was way back in the day) of YES songs. I played it over & over. I learned to love YES because of him & still 20 years later, have many of their CDs. Anyways, you guys are awesome & you deserve every accolade you've been given! I can't say the same for you, though, Moraz, you arrogant schmuck.

Yes, and many other of these often called progressive rock groups, are among my favorite genre of rock. This music is multi layered and stands the test of time.
The sound engineering on this song is amazing. I love how some of the instruments sound like the microphones are up super close and recorded in a small room, while others sound distant in a huge hall with heaps of reverb. Incredible contrasts. Also the fantastic effects on the backing vocals when they sing "Owner of a lonely HEART!!" at 4:10... it sounds like the brass section of an orchestra. Also during the breakdown just before the guitar solo... there's a Phil Collins inspired drum roll and Jon shrieks "YEOW!" and then from 4:41 to 4:44 his voice and Trevor Rabin's guitar sound so perfectly blended as they go "Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah!".... followed by the weirdest and most unique sounding guitar solo in rock history. Like something aliens would play if they were undercover and trying to blend in as humans. I grew up in the 70s and the 80s. It is such a horrible thing that I am homesick for a place that no longer exists. All I have are mere memories of a far simpler less complicated time. With so many wonderful people in my youth. The 80s were an amazing time to be alive.
I was and always will be the most radical and like for sure time of my youth. When ever I'm feeling down I just hit play button on my cassette boom box. All is most excellent as I ride my Power Peralta board. Wish it was as easy to go back to the 70's and early 80's as hitting the rewind. I saw them in the summer of 1977 at Hampton Roads Coliseum in Norfolk, VA with Donovan (Sunshine Superman, Hurdy Hurdy Man). YES was fantastic. "Roundabout" has been one of my favorites since 1971. Jon Anderson singing lead really made that concert special. Had a cast on my left leg during concert.
This hit song was released in Oct 1983. It hit #28 in the UK and #1 in the U.S.A. The class of 1984 was rocking to this tune for the next several months. I was a sophomore in high school and enjoying life in Southern California. 39 years later and it's still rock'in
@Bishop Dong Magic Shlong. That doesn't prove anything at all. Because perhaps he never SAW the movie "Night School". MTV played everywhere in the world. On everybody's televisions. Not everybody has heard of the movie "Night School". I'VE never even heard of it. And it's VERY possible that Ron Jay has never heard of it either.
@Bishop Dong Magic Shlong I have a right to comment. Everybody's opinion is apparently worth only two cents when somebody doesn't like it. His point was that he would have never heard of Yes if it wasn't for MTV. And I was backing that up. Just because that movie came out doesn't mean anything. The point is is that he credits MTV for discovering Yes. and if he had never had this channel he would have never heard of them otherwise. And I believe him.

It's a fact
this is one of the best from the 80s though. and it totally transcends the 80s.
as a African American love this song when were men and women were proud of it
Rest assured, I am far from lonely
However.
I recall listening to this song in the past and that was exactly how I felt.
Never again.
10 years prior to this song, Yes was producing totally different music, and they were absolute masters at it. Then they release this song, and prove they also master the pop genre. Absolutely amazing skill.
Kinda like Genesis in that regard, they actually followed a similar trajectory from prog to new wave.
A lot of Rock purists were really upset that Yes went Pop on this song.
@@roiijamez33 Same with Genesis, and nowadays with the band Mastodon. Some people don't move on.
I agree mate.Definitely an under appreciated band. Personally I feel 90125 is one of the best rock albums ever. This is coming from a die hard Led Zep fan.
Trevor Horne(lead singer of the Buggles) produced this album and calls this track his technical masterpiece
Yes, YES indeed.

One of my absolute favorite songs from childhood ❤️ I wish they still made music like THIS 🎯
I grew up in the 70s and the 80s. It is such a horrible thing that I am homesick for a place that no longer exists. All I have are mere memories of a far simpler less complicated time. With so many wonderful people in my youth. The 80s were an amazing time to be alive.
You are one of many millions, my friend.
I was and always will be the most radical and like for sure time of my youth. When ever I'm feeling down I just hit play button on my cassette boom box. All is most excellent as I ride my Power Peralta board.
Wish it was as easy to go back to the 70's and early 80's as hitting the rewind.
Well at least we rocked that time in our lives and the memories we take with us when we leave this life.
Unfortunately, the skateboard will need to stay along with my prized Dyno BMX freestyle bike..😢
We got the beat for sure 😆🤙
Please...time machine?
My dear, you are right but be aware that seems to be the way we all keep memories of some of our.mots active, vibtating years,! Me too and I count 73 summers! Wellcomw to the people who cheerish special times - but so it will be about today when we count some 10 years more!
NOW can be an amazing time to be alive too if you allow for the possibility.
Esta canção tem um dos riffs mais marcantes que já ouvi, é inconfundível!
One of my first 80s songs I was obsessed with. Constantly telling my mom to put the record on repeat when I was a kid. This song still sounds modern to today's sound 💜
Nah, it’s a very quintessential 80s sounding song.
I always loved the video as a kid.Not till I was older did I start to love the music.
Yes, of course, YES. This was my favourite video for years... I was a rebelious 15 years old kid. I only enjoyed listening to music (even heavy - now I can't bear heavy).. Life is very changeable..
Back in the days i went nuts to this Song, still bumping it today

I liked this song when it first
came out, thought it was different for YES, and it turned out it’s exactly what they needed to give them a presence for another 23 years
The 'sound' and music style of the eighties is incredible. Best times.
Ps: her name is Rio
I agree! The best music decade!!
Definitely the best times. Takes me back.
This song has given me a new meaning, after getting out of a manipulative friendship a year ago.
I have been listening to this more and more currently. The song is helping me to move on
P.S Thank you Yes!
Never noticed the ending before, "don't you leave your free will at home".
You did excellent, to recognize, and move on.
Une autre époque ! Fantastique😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
Not only the song is a masterpiece, the video as well. It seems when the 2010s arrived, a lack of imagination and creativity became the order of the day.
Wahhhh. Everything new is tired and OvErDoNe!
Ironically the eighties were the exact thing you're complaining about
there has never not been unimaginative music, you just don't remember it because it never survives its own time. just as there is still creative music being made right now, and it's only a matter of finding it.
@Max Milella Uhm, I'm an Xer.
from what ive seen 80s music videos were made on a shoe string budget people were busy going out and enjoying themselves it was morea about live acts than music videos , in the 90s videos were better the music wasnt as much
A masterpiece from 1983 that just keeps on giving! Love to relive this era!!!

Hi I recommend a new indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix

Absolutely !
0:23 they say the bandana was on his head when they started playing , but he played so hard it ended up around his neck. you can tell by the agitation on his face !!
The bandanna was around his neck the whole time even from the beginning
Still a masterpiece today. Song is simply badass!
I saw them in April of 1975. A PHENOMENAL concert! Fantastic!
I saw Yes rocking Fragile in March 1972. Black Sabbath rocked Paranoid, too. Unforgettable performances!

Thank God for MTV.
Because A young black teen from Philly would have never heard of YES!
Ron Jay riiiiiight?????👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@Bishop Dong Magic Shlong. That doesn't prove anything at all. Because perhaps he never SAW the movie "Night School". MTV played everywhere in the world. On everybody's televisions. Not everybody has heard of the movie "Night School". I'VE never even heard of it. And it's VERY possible that Ron Jay has never heard of it either.
@Bishop Dong Magic Shlong. Going by your previous comment and THIS comment, absolutely, unequivocally, indubitably, 100% not as dumb as you.😁
@Bishop Dong Magic Shlong I have a right to comment.
Black people love all kinds of music, too. We are more than just R and B, Blues, Soul, and Gospel. I love Yes.
