The S1 is my all time favourite. My dad had one and it's the reason I love cars so much now. I remember hearing the turbo spool for the first time as kid.
I remember exactly how these series 1 cars drive its a good feeling the way the seats hug you and the way you said how it feels on the road such a classic everyone wanted one with the white and blue down the side it looks simply suits itself fully pure xtc!!

In 1989 I bought my 1st brand new MK5 RS Turbo Escort( in Red ) - got it chipped and tweaked, 1990 bought another one (as the 1st had an accident) and even though I have owned a Sapphire Cosworth, BMW 325i Cab, CLK320 Cab, SLK55 AMG. SL350 Sport Edition. Those 2 escorts were FUN - my childhood FUN - even now I am smiling just thinking about them, they were just all about enjoying yourself around the M25 at 150 +, crazy days. That cheeky smile on his face - we all had it driving this car - when the Turbo kicking in at 4000 rpm .
Bought one new in early 86 whilst serving in Germany. Spent many a happy couple of years with it including trips back to UK. It was real head turner back then (and now) and it was a fast car for its time. Horrendous torque steer I remember which nearly caught me out at junctions pulling out when I first got it. Paid £6,500 tax free. Would love another go in one someday. Happy days, enjoy.

Loved my Series 1 which I had in the early 90's. Got stolen twice from my driveway, the first time of which I got it back after a police chase, the 2nd time it was written off & stripped bare. I was in my early 20's when I had it, insurance back then was 1k pa.
The Peugeot 205 1.9 gti was quicker, especially down B roads. With mild tuning they were awesome. Mine was 170bhp. The rs turbo was renowned for blowing turbos too. Agree older cars are so much more fun.
Fiat uno turbo, R5 GT Turbo, Nissan S12, Starion Turbo etc. There were quite a few but Ford were always clever with the mass appeal, I think that there was actually a positive side to the fact that they were recognisable back to the basic range. I love the older stuff - they aren't great in many ways but that's a big part of the appeal...if you don't get it though you probably never will!
Always wanted the series 1 turbo but bought a red RS1600i custom. Stunning car. It was absolutely mint with 32000 on the clock but sold it in 95 for 3k. Want it back !!!!

Only available in 80’s white,fat arches and of course it had to have a TURBO! I would say for die hard Ford desirability it’s right up there with an Escort Cosworth or RS 500.

Had loads of these back in the day fully modded sold up after a ford galaxy over took me at 130mph went from the r turbo s and Cosworth s to rover ti that was faster than all fords then went to supras and currently got a is300 turbo 860bhp

As they didn't bother stripping the back spoiler I guess it became a donor for an RS Turbo Escort Van!... Interesting info I was given by someone who claimed to be the designer of the ECU though... He told me switch on the bonnet controls whether the car is in full on driving mode ( bonnet down) or emissions cycle test mode ( bonnet up). So probably a very early example of emissions test cheating if true..... Also remember the warning words ... Look after your DipStick! It is critical for the ECU to work correctly!

And me I am an absolute lover of fords as it’s in my blood as my grandad worked in the Dagenham plant as a forklift driver my aunt also has a m reg escort convertible efi with the white roof rear electric windows which was an option on them at the time convertible decals in the bottom as it was an ex demonstration car
Smart man keeping it in a vac heated shell as these are so prone to tin worm with moisture. Get her wax oiled in every chassis rail and box section and dry it in the dry winter days and the dry summer days. Agree turbo powered compared to natural aspirated engines. Was the R5 and other small jaoeneae turbo cars
Lovely car but the Fiat uno turbo was around then and faster, Also the Renault 5 gt turbo was around and very quick. So it wasn’t the only turbo car around that era!

I remember seeing him come up the skatepark in it when I was like 11/12 I’m now 32 great cars. Takes me back to my childhood days seeing these sort of cars. I remember driving one of these back in the very early 90's as my Dad's friend had one, it was one of my favourite cars and still is. The price of RS Ford's from that era has skyrocketed, case in point the same friend of my Dad has a moonstone blue RS500 cosworth which he's had for over 20 years and has been independently valued at over 100K. With all that being said i would still have a modern Focus RS over both of these cars, despite being iconic in nature by today's standards they don't measure up.. Which is a pity

The uno turbo was an amazing little pocket rocket all my mates had them in the early 90s👍👍and I'd say quicker than the rs as they were so lite!!!they came in the 1300/1400 models.

Lancia delta ,Audi quattro, mg turbo, supra ,starion, to name just a few everything was turbod back then. It was the turbo decade mk1 golf was only 15 BHP less than this and weighed over 200 kilos lighter and it was a 70s car the mk2 16v would have had more power than this as standard, and I would be dubious about the claimed 130 BHP I've witnessed these struggle to keep up with smaller cars on the tight twisty roads

Omg ,when I was a very young kid I remember trying to force open one of those car freshener crystals in the shop, thinking it was a precious mini version from crystal maze or something, ended up splatting myself with the fresher 🤦♂️ never been so shocked in my life,I freshly stunk for days!

Bought one of these around 88, for around £7300, with18k on the clock. Ended smashing it up with an XR3 hitting me in the rear wing.... I managed to get it fixed but was never the same after that. Ended up trading it in for an XR2
I had one of these... on the road for 6 weeks! Had a mis-fire so was working on it in the back street then the fuse box / wiring loom started smoking an melted 👎😢 ended up selling it 4 years later. Major regrets now?

Kind of cajoled my parents into buying an S1 Custom C355HAR when I was 17 and it was a year old. They were looking at some other stuff but this to me was a thing of dreams and I did a good job of convincing them it made sense. Learnt to drive in it, use it (added on their insurance policy) and just loved everything about it from the Recaros, the handling, to the exhaust note to the gorgeous bodykit and alloys. When I left for uni another daily had turned up and the S1 was garaged up most of the time (to be mine one day when I had the cash to buy it) but on a rare jaunt out it got nicked from a hospital car park in Telford never to be seen again. B*stards 😥
Sadly they used to get stolen a lot 👎 C622FYC is actually my car now. I’ve owned it for the last 4 years. This was my late fathers car from 1990 to 2001. Just like you I love them. Especially this one.! 👌👌

I had to XR3i’s and I loved them both had a white one and I found a body kit and a recaro trim fitted in half a day on hot 1991 day hadn’t license 6 months but back to the car I even got the rs exhuast loved it lowered it only problem I couldn’t leave it anywhere had the door locks popped and then the ignition ripped out but I had a wire it was part of the engine and you could make it look like the wire when unplugged hide each end tuck under another wire and it would turn over but wouldn’t start ,would have that stomach in your mouth when it wasn’t parked where you left the would see it round the corner bonnet up were those pesky car thieves had been trying to find a cut out switch…
I'm so sad 😢 when I look at these cars i had one of those in white a xr4i 4+4 in white and a xr3i Rs lookalike in white all at the same time just on wanted siting around in my yard for years and years how much would they be worth if I had of taking care of them 🤒😥
Nostalgia....burner with the mag wheels...that series1 is an absolute belter...I had 1 c642 wks.....the alarm was no deterrent for the tealeafs...had to sell...regret that so much....I also had a mint low mile rs16i in sunburst red...great to drive..twitchy in a good way..constantly turned heads....I've seen what they command price wise now 🤔..😭

My lad has a mk3 escort rs turbo rep its nice and it has the zvh 2.1 engine stupid power but its front wheel drive so its not for me. I like our mk2 escort its in the processes of being built with both a turbo xflow and a na twin cam xe just because we can.

I had a Mazda 323 4x4 turbo although was '87 I think? Also a Gordini turbo although torque steer was awful.

Omg ,when I was a very young kid I remember trying to force open one of those car freshener crystals in the shop, thinking it was a precious mini version from crystal maze or something, ended up splatting myself with the fresher 🤦♂️ never been so shocked in my life,I freshly stunk for days!
My mate had one of those when I lived in the UK in the late 80's early '90's.
Always reminded me like driving a touring car with the driving position, ride and how it went.

Bought one of these around 88, for around £7300, with18k on the clock. Ended smashing it up with an XR3 hitting me in the rear wing.... I managed to get it fixed but was never the same after that. Ended up trading it in for an XR2

I had one of these... on the road for 6 weeks! Had a mis-fire so was working on it in the back street then the fuse box / wiring loom started smoking an melted 👎😢 ended up selling it 4 years later. Major regrets now?

Kind of cajoled my parents into buying an S1 Custom C355HAR when I was 17 and it was a year old. They were looking at some other stuff but this to me was a thing of dreams and I did a good job of convincing them it made sense. Learnt to drive in it, use it (added on their insurance policy) and just loved everything about it from the Recaros, the handling, to the exhaust note to the gorgeous bodykit and alloys. When I left for uni another daily had turned up and the S1 was garaged up most of the time (to be mine one day when I had the cash to buy it) but on a rare jaunt out it got nicked from a hospital car park in Telford never to be seen again. B*stards 😥

ive had a few nice fast cars in my time and i owned one of these in 1988 to 1991 and to this day its still my favorite car , i love and miss this car and in 1988 it cost me £7500

I had to XR3i’s and I loved them both had a white one and I found a body kit and a recaro trim fitted in half a day on hot 1991 day hadn’t license 6 months but back to the car I even got the rs exhuast loved it lowered it only problem I couldn’t leave it anywhere had the door locks popped and then the ignition ripped out but I had a wire it was part of the engine and you could make it look like the wire when unplugged hide each end tuck under another wire and it would turn over but wouldn’t start ,would have that stomach in your mouth when it wasn’t parked where you left the would see it round the corner bonnet up were those pesky car thieves had been trying to find a cut out switch…

Nostalgia....burner with the mag wheels...that series1 is an absolute belter...I had 1 c642 wks.....the alarm was no deterrent for the tealeafs...had to sell...regret that so much....I also had a mint low mile rs16i in sunburst red...great to drive..twitchy in a good way..constantly turned heads....I've seen what they command price wise now 🤔..😭

Owned one when I was younger. Always wanted one. Rust worse than a 90's Honda and that's saying something. The phrase never meet your heroes springs to mind. They are pretty crap lol. Look stunning though and still admire them at car shows. I remember an absolute prestine low miler being £5000 lol
My lad has a mk3 escort rs turbo rep its nice and it has the zvh 2.1 engine stupid power but its front wheel drive so its not for me. I like our mk2 escort its in the processes of being built with both a turbo xflow and a na twin cam xe just because we can.
I would have been happy with just the raleigh Burner but to own that RS torbo would be great. my older brother had this car. and it had such a pose factor and went like shit of a shovel.
I don't covet many things, but a MK 1 RS turbo has always been the one.

My dream car- RS200, knew someone as a boy they would bring me rally posters, seen it a few times. 9 years later I remember trying to convince my Tutor about the Group B RS200, he kept saying it’s only rs2000, no internet to prove him wrong lol.
