  • This is a down and dirty comparison of the Two Rock Studio Signature and Burnside. Don't worry about tubes and watts, what do your ears dig? I love em both so tell me in the comments below which one you prefer.

    Honestly, what you need is to run them both at the same time! I keep watching your videos and the only conclusion is that I definitely need a strat

      Oh man - that would be glorious!! I should get anA/B Box and do that on the next gig. Love my Strat, but I do need a humbucker guitar for these reviews too!

      Thanks for watching. I hear ya! I had to sell several things to afford the Studio Signature and that was when they were cheaper in 2015.

    The Burnside just recorded better today,
    I know it’s not a good way to decide but that’s all I got to work with.
    But it’s like going to a fashion parade and picking your favourite. All unattainable atm.

      So weird too because I got levels basically equal and they just have a 57 on each cab but I think you could be right :-)

    Burnside seems more immediate under the fingers, less of that comfort sponge? When you play. Both sound killer though! Burnside for me but the reverb on the sig is beyond what pedals can achieve. In the room they must be 🙌

    Hey Mark. Wonderful tone in this video. I like simplicity hence Burnside attracts me a bit more but wondering if it’s usable at bedroom volumes on its own or with attenuator. I don’t care that much about dirty tone - just saucy, rich cleans :)

    • @markhopkinsmusic

      I feel like you really have to crank it to get it to feel great - that said I would honestly mosreso look at the Studio Signature. Beautiful single channel amp with glorious cleans AND a master volume. It’s by far one of the best amps I’ve ever played.

    Hey Mark, I purchased a Studio Signature head recently and have been experiencing a lot of buzz noise while the amp is idle. It won’t go away even with humbuckers. Was this your experience with the SS and was the burnside more quiet when idle? The tone is awesome but I can’t get past the buzzing.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    • @markhopkinsmusic

      I’d reach out to Two Rock. That is not normal. I’ve never experienced that with my SS. They are amazing so I am sure they can fix whatever the issue is.

    How did you get the break-up from the studio signature? I can't get mine to break-up with the gain knob at all. I really have to open up the master volume to get an light overdrive. But then it is too loud to play at home. So, my only choice is overdrive pedals.
    Same with my traditional clean. It won't break up unless I start cranking the master. But then it is so loud....

    • @markhopkinsmusic
      @markhopkinsmusic  2 роки тому +1

      I keep the Gain Structure switch in the middle and then the Gain knob at 1pm - master using just cracked open and it breaks up nicely. What's the Gain Structure setting?

    • @colaboytje
      @colaboytje 2 роки тому +1

      @@markhopkinsmusic All 3 positions, doesn't matter. The gain wide open, no break-up. I've had mine since release (no. 13). I have to open up the master or use an overdrive pedal. Maybe it's because I only use low output single coils on my custom strats... Or maybe mine just happens to have more headroom.
      But I'm happy with my overdrive pedals :-)

    The real difference is the Burnside is made for playing loud and getting the power tube overdrive crunch tones that other amps lack using gain & master volume and only a non master volume amp can produce correctly .
    The Burnside is for concert venues !

    • @markhopkinsmusic
      @markhopkinsmusic  3 місяці тому

      I agree; it’s a juicy amp when you crank that thing up!

    • @user-gv3jq1nn2d
      @user-gv3jq1nn2d 2 місяці тому +1

      It is a delicate balance of gain and volume that the gain must hit just hard enough push the power tubes into overdrive .
      Other master volume amps can do it but it is more difficult to get that great overdrive tone .
      My Laney VC-30 gets marvelous tones at volume 8 and breaks up the power tubes into a wonderful crunch playing chords at gain about 7 !

    • @Ganache30
      @Ganache30 2 роки тому

      @@markhopkinsmusic Yes 100%. I've had both. Studio Sig was more lower mids, is less open, and even though it's a smaller wattage, it's more strident - reminded me a lot of my old Studio Pro. The CRS has a lovely feel and squish to it. I can see how one might favour the SS for gigs, given it's portability, and breakup/hair at lower volumes, but it's a far more modern sound. Both are great, there's just something really special about the CRS.

    Dude it’s just another ’BAD” amp and
    “Extremely affordable” is a bad choice of words.
    They’re 3k + 🏦
    I’ll take a swart , Elliott or Carr any day over any amp built by BAD or boutique amp distributors
    “ bad “. What kind of child chooses to use this as an acronym for their biz ?

    • @Michael-bm8hi
      @Michael-bm8hi 5 місяців тому

      I would agree with the Swart, but not with any of the other brands you mentioned. „BAD“ is just an acronym they used by accident to describe their quality. Just standard PCB builds wrapped nicely in candy colored Tolex - an example for very good marketing and average tone.
