I've had this same little gun for a few years and I've had nearly 750-1000 rounds through it without A SINGLE ISSUE. It's so simple, the SA trigger pull is actually really nice for target shooting. I wouldn't hesitate to count my life on this gun & I'll probably have it forever. I love my M85. Very accurate too

Here in Missouri the standard 'blued' versions are going for about $300 and stainless and ultralight being about $10-$20 more depending on where you go.

i've carried it a little more now that here in idaho we no longer are required to have a concealed carry permit to carry anymore. i'm not too sure i care for all the extra weight but, it's nice to have when i'm out rock hunting or playing by the river with the family.

A knife is a tool. So is a gun. I have been CCW for years now, about 10 years or so. To me it is a tool. Actually a really important tool, because under the right circumstances it will save my life or the life of my family. I like the M85. Looks like it would easy to carry and conceal. I have to tell you though, I prefer semi-auto pistols for self defense. Just the difference in trigger pull, will allow you to re-acquire a target faster. But the simplicity of a revolver and the way it conceals makes it a close comparison. Glad you supported your local store, I do the same. Might cost a little more, but on the long run it will pay off.

i also view guns as tools. police, military, self defense uses make it a tool. malicious intent is the weapon. good points on the comparison between semi autos, noted!

More gun reviews! I had a chance to shoot one of these recently. My friends wife bought it for home protection, and he let me try it. I thought it was a great little gun. It kicks but the handle spreads the recoil well to make it an easy handling kick imo. It is nice for shooting one handed quick shots, as it points well.
I liked that you brought up how load these things can be without hearing protection. People should consider how loud a gun like this would sound when firing it in your house. People talk about having a .357 or .45 as a bedside gun, I used to have a .45 for that. That could mess your ears up enough to cause real problems if you actually had to use it. Yes, adrenaline would kick in, but that doesn't make the ringing go away. It could make it very difficult for you to communicate with your family, or the police, for instance. Some have a 12 gauge for home defense. Um, no thanks. If I make it through an encounter where I have to shoot my gun, it would be nice to still be able to hear. With the great ammo that is available today I'm liking the sub-sonic .380 acp. Plenty of stopping power and blood won't shoot out of your ears if you have to use it indoors. Taurus has a revolver, similar to this one in .380 acp. I've been thinking it would be interesting to compare to the Glock 42.

i'm pretty sure if i fired this in my bedroom it would make my ears bleed. i am sure you are right and i have thought of that. what if you shot the guy in your room and not being able to hear walked out into a second armed perpetrator? there's a lot to consider. i actually really like this for when i'm rock hunting and watching out for snakes. haven't had any run ins so far but, i'd like to have this with me if i did.

Not trying to argue, just trying to help. It has helped me a lot. Just be safe, make sure no ammo or other people around, and practice lining up sites and trigger pull as if loaded.

I have the s&w sd 40. shoots great. accurate and all but today when I chambered it the magazine fell out. The plus side to a revolver is no magazine that can fall out. I have carried that gun for 2.5 years first that happen to me.

    Potential 1st time buyer question:
Firstly thank you for this video. I had a question about your audio, specifically the warning that some say this brand of revolver "has issues" with the internal parts breaking.
question: Assuming one sends-out that warranty, with date of receipt, is it a safe assumption that gun is replaced by Taurus? the seller?
question: is there risk to life and limb if an "internal revolver" part breaks during discharge?
question: for economical reasons I have taken an interest in Taurus since S&W** is markedly more money for essentially the same calibre of revolver. Why did you spend more by about a hundred?
** I wonder if someone decades back managed to take the molds for this gun/revolver and start it in Brazil, because they all have a striking similarity (minus those Chiappa 'Rhinos' I have seen on Google). Same for the other revolver brands.
    Thanks in advance.

thecrowrains I would assume they'd choose repair over replacement, I would hope there wouldn't be any harm to life or limb but, that's hard to say, I'd rather err on the side of caution than anything. Can't be too careful. I live in a small area and there's no competition in pricing here, you generally overpay on everything you buy in a store here.

    Good video.
I HATE the Taurus M85. I fired one was barely fired and had a tendency to spray lead all over your hands when fired. And I can't hit the broad side of a barn with one.

    • @Prometheus1111
      @Prometheus1111  8 років тому +1

that shouldn't happen if you are firing full metal jacket bullets through it. that would certainly be a cause for concern since lead does not make you strong like popeye. this isn't accurate for very far at all, it's more something you would stuff into the stomach of an attacker and then pull the trigger.

      knives save lives
It was some time ago, I think we shot both lead wadcutter and FMJ bullets through it.
I'd like to try one with decent sights, I know Smith and Wesson makes a 2.5 in M686 with actual rear sights.

the sights on mine work ok but, they're not adjustable at all.

i overpaid on this one by about a hundred dollars so, make sure they don't take you to the cleaners for one. i read online that they generally sell for about +/- $230 or so.

Why wouldn't you dry fire? If you know it's unloaded, what will it hurt? Most places that I have seen are of the opinion that it helps with trigger control and aiming. I really hope that Taurus has found a way to make this a more reliable revolver. Made the mistake of buying one a few months after Sandy Hook. The timing was off so badly that it simply wouldn't revolve. I really wanted to like it; bought it mainly for my wife, but was greatly disappointed. Sold it pretty quickly. As for the semi-v-revolver reliability, a good quality semi auto will be fine. The Glock that replaced this Taurus has never been a problem. Hope you get good service from yours..

i've never heard that you should dry fire a firearm ever since i was a kid going to shooting competitions with my dad. it's possible that it would do no damage but, then again, every use of the guns puts more wear on it and that's a fact, so why tempt fate? i've heard some bad things about taurus but, mostly that they put more cost into the finish than any other part of the gun which i could believe because it's very nicely finished. i do know a family of ranchers who wear and use six shooters everyday on their ranch and one of them is a taurus that the guy has had for 30+ years and he says he's put a lot of rounds through it with no problem but, then again, that gun was made 30+ years ago and that most likely has no correlation to the current production models so, i'm taking a chance.
