- This is a quick review of my new Taurus Model 85 38 special. It's a nice little gun that can be used for concealed carry and even car carry. More videos to come on this gun.

I just got my Taurus 38 today and am so stoked,I cant wait to shoot it !!
I saw one of these at a gun show recently and picked it up to see how it felt and man that grip!!!
u like the grip? i think i might get some wood grips for it.
I didn't buy it but the grip sure did make me want to buy it! Yes, that bull grip fit my hand very well and just felt awesome to me.
the little bumps on the back of it can cause a little discomfort under recoil. nothing unmanageable tho.
good video, I seen one of these on the used market for $275. think I'm going to jump on it.
its a good gun. probably going to be one of my go to carry guns.
I just bought this same one
I'm getting one of these for my wife. I like the stock grips because of the stickiness and hopefully she'll be able to hold onto it. We do a lot of shooting together and she wants her own gun and I think I could get a bit of enjoyment out of it too.
this is one of my two carry guns. it is pretty easy to conceal and its very reliable. i still would like to get some wood grips some day tho.
I want a .45 ruger vaquero, stainless, engraved, with the birds head grips...so damn sexy..
good looking gun tho
Chuck , Get the Ruger SUPER BLACKHAWK 44 MAG with the 7 1/2 barrel. It's a perfect conceal carry weapon .
for ccw? no. for deer hunting? absolutely.
I just bought a Taurus Model 85 and also a Ruger LCRX with a 3" barrel.
I put Altamont wood grips on mine and I love it. It conceals better, and that stickiness got to me too.
I've had this gun for about 4 months now. Fired several hundred rounds through it. Not one single problem. For $249.99 at Palmetto State Armory, it's a great gun. It's easily as good as any S&W I've had over the years. The only negative? Resale. But, I never sell any of my firearms.
i probably wont sell this one either. its a good little gun.
I just bought one only a month old for $100 from a friend who was in a bind for money. He even gave me an almost full box of ammo that he bought when he got the gun.
They are definitely good bargain guns.
@@redneckmini14 I've shot about 25 rounds through it since yesterday (only had it a couple of days) and it's very soft recoiling and surprisingly accurate for a snubbie. Very impressed with it.
Nice little carry gun...
+Scott F. i plan to carry it whenever i get my ccw (or if missouri passes permitless carry). also would like to get a ruger lc9s for carry too.
I'm thinking about purchasing one of these for my first ever hand gun for self and home defense. I like the price and for a noob seems easy to operate and carry.
its a pretty decent gun for the price. dont let people tell u that the only good revolver is a smith and wesson.
redneckmini14 I prefer Ruger myself ;). I do have a Taurus M66 though and it's been good to me.
i love ruger too. there r many ruger revolvers i want, but i havent gotten one yet.
Taurus and S&W were both owned by Bangor Punta in the 70s. There may have been some collaboration between the two but both companies had their own lock work. Taurus has been making revolvers that have the general appearance of the S&W design. However, if you examine the internals, they are not the same at all.
Still a good revolver.
Smith and Taurus share info still. After Smith was sued by Glock they gave all the specs of their glock clone sd9 to Taurus and that was the birth of the pt111. Did you keep the revolver? My Taurus all steel 605 wears a walnut grip.
Your are right! The Taurus 85 is a good revolver as are other Taurus products. The point that I was making is that Taurus has been making revolvers since the early 20th century. Taurus has never had the rights to make S&W revolvers nor has S&W had the rights to make Taurus revolvers. Although they were owned by the same corporation for a short time, they kept their designs to themselves and may have shared some manufacturing technology.
Great gun. New grips are awesome
yeah i would like a set of wood grips for it
Great light weight snub nose. Goes bang every time and is plenty accurate if I am.
$199 at Palmetto State Armory. With a $40 rebate. I ordered mine yesterday.
That's $199 for the blued model. The stainless model is a little more. I considered putting one on layaway til mid October, but decided to go with a Thompson Venture 30-06. Those have a $75 rebate til the end of the year.
Kevin Keener did the same. Should be here on Friday.
thinking about getting this to alternate with my Glock 43 for conceal carry
nice looking--------just picked up a j frame model 442 and yours looks a lot like it. I paid 469.00 and so far its shooting great, only problem is my wife likes it and says its hers. Good luck with yours and let us know how it shoots
+russ elder it shoots pretty good. i need to get used to shooting it double action because i really suck lol. not used to shooting revolvers.
+redneckmini14 Im in the same boat---------mine is hammerless version but long pull(13lbs)and the sights are a big adjustment
Good video. Ive never been a fan of Taurus revolvers due to a bad experience with one of their .22 revolvers back in the day. But i have been looking hard at one of these mod 85s. I see mostly positive reviews on this particular gun so i might have to give it a try. Let us know how she shoots and thanks for the video!
+sackett68 What happened?
I had issues with the timing. When shooting it in double action it would sometimes skip a chamber. I cant remember the model number but it was several years ago so maybe the quality control at Taurus has gotten better since then.
+sackett68 ill hopefully take it out shooting soon to c how it does.
What do you guys think about the hammer safety lock? Have you guys had any problems with it? Has it ever lock by itself with out you guys putting on?
I've had no issues, and I never lock it.
redneckmini14 thanks I order one today. Hopefully I’ll get it soon.
I had a Taurus 617, it was a good gun but, after 500 rds it was still giving me problems. 3 or 4 rds in it would hang up on the next rdn. Not once or twice but, constantly. Taurus makes a good gun, the 617 is the only one I've ever had a problem with but, my Ruger LCR goes bang every time. If your on a budget, Taurus might be the way to go but, for an extra $100 or less you can easily find a Smith or Ruger that will whup the Taurus hands down.
+Dan Dan (DanDanRigMan) took mine to the range today. hung up once, but that could have been me not pulling the trigger back enough before letting up. not used to shooting a double action revolver yet. also need to get some paper targets and c where it hits.
nice snub nose revolver.
+Guns Uk31 thanks. i like it.
It's called tackiness.
u mean the grip?
