I just took a CCW course and purchased the Taurus 38 Ultra light as my first handgun after using it on the range. I loved firing it and did well at 4', 10', 30', the recoil was minimal. Thank U for your demonstration of this neat little revolver. I'm 76 yo and am now a proud CCW license holder.
I remember the first time I held one of these. Funny story, I was dating a girl when I was in the ninth grade and she was house sitting her neighbors house. Me and my step brother went over to the house to hang out and play on the Nintendo wii (with permission). One on the remotes needed batteries so I started going through drawers looking for AAs. I was in the master bedroom and I opened to top dresser drawer and saw one of these sitting in it. Now looking back on it, I shouldn't have touched this gun. Buuuut, my young gun crazy self only had good intentions so I picked it up and unloaded it so I could aim down the sights and feel it up a little bit. I didn't know much about guns and didn't recognize the gun as a cheap revolver. It felt good in my hands. Ever sense then I've wanted to own one. Lol don't tell the neighbors I was playing with their gun
This was the first gun I ever bought then afterwards I bought 9 more expensive guns only to realize this little cheap gun was the one I trusted the most with my life as a defense gun. Super simple and it goes bang everytime.
I bought this as my first gun, earlier tonight; and I found this video, afterwards. I don't have a background with firearms, and this is my first gun. Plan to take course for CHL. Fell in love with how the gun felt in my hand. Thanks for the review!
Just bought one today. I have bad hands and can't pull back the slide on the 9mm, so this little revolver is the answer. Nice, lightweight, not a lot of effort to pull the trigger at all. Can't wait to take it to the range.
I've owned or handled numerous handguns. Everybody has their own opinion about brand but the best value for me has been Taurus for many years. I've bought some real garbage with big name brands stamped on them only to get rid of it as soon as possible. Having a lot of money or not having a lot of money has nothing to do with it. We all look for good value and reliability. So, keep talking down Taurus all you want so their prices don't go thru the roof like some of the junk currently popular in the market place.
Thanks for sharing, and good on you for getting it for your mom. I've owned a few Taurus revolvers, all have been great. And the Judge is a hoot! I haven't had the best experience with their pistols but looks like they're improving. My dad bought a Curve a few months ago and at first I thought he should get something else. But he kept saying he loves it and had been shooting it at the range with no issues. I visited him recently and got to shoot it for myself, not bad at all. Happy that he got a good gun at a good price. Anyway I might look at getting an 85 ultra lite myself.
I just purchased a Taurus 856 Ultra Lite (same gun but with 6 rds), and really love it except for the grips. I have a set of wood grips on order. Even with the wider cylinder it fits my leather holster for my Smith and Wesson 442 (snuggly), and my Remora holster (perfectly). It seems like the quality is equivalent to the Smith and Wesson J Frame, but it's a bit too soon to say that dogmatically. So far though, I'm very pleased with it.
I own one of these firearms. Very nice weapon. I also own a S&W airweight. Weapons are very similar. S&W had a heaver trigger pull till I had it worked. The Taurus has a lighter trigger an is just as accurate as the S&W. Would recommend the Taurus for price and quality. I own 3 Taurus firearms and all 3 are good reliable firearms. Don't bash Taurus till you try one.
I have witnessed you knocking Taurus, I am so confused! lol Looks like a cool one. I have been avoiding the store since moving close to it so I don't spend all my money and now you show this! Don't sell me one if I come in, please!
I outfitted mine with some crimson trace laser grips.I did pretty well at the range with it. I have to have a laser.I am far sighted and have trouble seeing things close up. the grips helped a lot. I shout about 75 rounds of cheap target ammo threw it. it functioned well.Everybody tells me Taurus firearms are junk. I hope not. they got me thinking I should have spent another $150 and got the s* w 637.
Holy God. Please UA-cam, don't "come at me" with any more videos. lol Other than that, I enjoyed your vid, and I really like my Taurus Ported Total Titanium. I have other snubbies by the top manufacturers, but my Taurus TT is my go-to carry.
A heavier weapon is easier to shoot and has less recoil. A few oz wouldn't make a difference even to an older female in terms of holding it. She will fire this, it will recoil more heavily, and she will freak out.
Doesn't seem like they come with it now. Which sucks cause they are awesome. So do you still recommend this revolver ? Has it been reliable etc? Thanks
I have. It's not bad, but after the 40 million dollar lawsuit and the problems that have come up with a lot of their semi autos I don't really trust them at the moment.
Your Mom likes comfortable rubber that is ribbed??!! Haha. Sorry, I had to do it. Thanks for the vid, I am actually going to get one of these for me for a backpacking pistol. Thanks for the info!
NRA is a Russion tool. Totally overcome and operated by Putin, so I'm glad i didn't fork over my hard earned money! That said, my first gun was a 1985 Taurus M85 in stainless. It's awesome even after thousands of rounds. It's my primary trust gun for home or cc.
Hi John - how's the recoil on this? Looking at picking one of these up for my girlfriend (it'd be her first gun...she's thinking of getting her concealed carry and while she's a good shot with my Glock 17 and 26 I think a revolver would be a better idea for her as a first gun) and I'm a little concerned being so light she might not like the recoil - I definitely don't want to get her something that she wouldn't be comfortable shooting. Thanks!

No one fuck with this granny :D
It's always funny how many people talk crap about something before they've even tried it.
seems like a great ultra light hiking option
Its Taurus' most popular gun for a reason. I definitely have this one on my list.
+mark3smle Thank you bro I appreciate it.
Have this in the 856 38 special love my6 shot will keep it for a good long time
I just bought one exactly like that a fewonths ago. This is my everyday carry. Love it! Not too bad of a recoil for a woman.
That is great to know! thank you for sharing with me.
GunCrazy81 I have the same one but it isn't +P

You're not alone, many people talk crap about Taurus. My first gun was a Taurus. I have 7000+ rounds through it with zero issues
+gunnwild1 I am really starting to love them! Thanks for watching bro.
Taurus USA is way better than it is internationally.
What Taurus is it that you have that many rounds through?

+MK Dallas Hey thank you very much I appreciate it.
Just bought one. Thought my edge of my gun by the cylinder was bent but saw from your video that is how it is made. Lol. Good tutorial.
Has a hell of a recoil, even with standard 38 loads, but I attribute that to the lightweight alloy frame. Otherwise, I like this firearm.
Change the grip I had the same problem with my sw 642

No intro, canny audio, bland background, lighting reflecting off your bald head....but you get right to the point, and I like that.
Doesn't seem like they come with it now. Which sucks cause they are awesome. So do you still recommend this revolver ? Has it been reliable etc? Thanks

+GunCrazy81 right on I think I will. Good lookin revolver that's for sure.
I have the sw642 EDC
how did you get the bull grips? looks like they only come with a different regular type rubber grip now .
+joe smith They came with the gun!
im getting this gun next week as my first gun.. after i had a kid i had to get something for day to day use. any advice?
+ADucksOpinion You should get it and find a good holster that works for you. I appreciate you watching.
I'm actually getting it tomorrow I can't wait. I'm going to look in the holsters I wouldn't mind one that can carry a ID and credit card on
ADucksOpinion thats a terrible idea. having to reach towards your gun to get your ID is a terrible way to get accidentally shot lol
VERY true.. im not gonna do it lol
@@ADucksOpinioncan u give an update? did you enjoy your 85?
309.99 @ my local gunshop I almost bought it last saturday
+Pablo Sandoval Not bad at all.
i hate Taurus's semi-autos. their revolvers are actually good quality. i've owned quite a few over the years, mostly the m-85's. they are good guns.
+Octavious Black Have you tried their PT111G2? It's a great 9mm semi auto.
I have. It's not bad, but after the 40 million dollar lawsuit and the problems that have come up with a lot of their semi autos I don't really trust them at the moment.
+Octavious Black They are pretty good for sure.
Octavious Black I had the Taurus Pt22 (the older one with the alloy frame) and it was fantastic!
Is it ok to dry fire this gun? Anyone who actually knows what the hell they're taking about mind answering this for me?
you said it can shoot +p?
It can..
so how do i not blow off my fingers?
How much ?
You don't show trigger pull on a gun video with your thumb !! BTW it was in the way.!!!
What does the plus p mean?
Kyle it refers to the ammo, it is a more powerful load

Hi John - how's the recoil on this? Looking at picking one of these up for my girlfriend (it'd be her first gun...she's thinking of getting her concealed carry and while she's a good shot with my Glock 17 and 26 I think a revolver would be a better idea for her as a first gun) and I'm a little concerned being so light she might not like the recoil - I definitely don't want to get her something that she wouldn't be comfortable shooting.
