    If I May, I have been doing this for years and a few tips I have learned. I do use the tape exactly like you do, I use 3 coats like you recommend, However I really clean the sight with alcohol first and I do use car paint primer, 2-3 coats before the colored paint. I do use a round tooth pick to apply the paint. I have found dipping in just the tip of the tooth pick, dab the excess on a tissue, I get the EXACT amount of paint on the sight. The last thing I do is I take the tape off, and with a clean tooth pic I apply a few light dabs of super glue to harden the surface.

    I did the same thing on my Smith and Wesson 442 and my Rock Island Armory m 206, using Testors model paint, applied with a toothpick, after cleaning with rubbing alcohol. Since both guns are black, I did nothing to the rear sights. The improvement is amazing, beyond anything I expected. Last week at the range, all 5 from the Smith and Wesson, and all 6 from the Rock Island Armory (first cylinder) were in the target's kill zone at 7 yards.

  • @livincincy4498

    If you need to change your POA to match POI you can paint just the lower half of the front sight. The upper part will fade out of sight and you will shoot higher. This may give you a 6:00 hold or simply land you on target

  • @jerrythegeek
    @jerrythegeek 6 років тому +9

    Suggestion: put a coat of "clear" nail polish on the front sight to further protect against wear.
    Also, blackening the rear sight is equally helpful .. but again; consider coating with clear nail polish. There are dark nail polishes which will also provide a contrast between front and rear sights, but markers are not as durable as mail polish. It probably depends on how likely you are to use the pistol in inclement weather (markers are subject to degradation in rainy conditions.).

    I painted my 85 but I had some ac orange paint. I just sprayed the cap and dabbed it with my finger on. Took seconds with no tape. It’s been my dirty truck gun for two years and still looks like the day I done it

  • @mancaveveteran4975
    @mancaveveteran4975 6 років тому +13

    With the nail polish you should do like my wife.....use the paint while we are on a road trip INSIDE the truck, once done painting she holds her hands near the AC vents on HIGH for 250 miles filling the truck with more fumes. Bingo her nails look good and me and my son are high!

    I agree, with both front and rear sight the same color it is hard to aim it quickly. I will most definitely try your suggestion and I think it will help. I think I will go with red instead...I love my 605 but it packed quite a punch with the .357mag. So I ordered a Pachmayr 3 finger wood grip from Amazon for $35.00. It was for a Taurus 85 small frame and fit my 605 perfectly. Installation time was less than 5 min. Improved the look and feel !! The .357mag are no problem now..

    I applied a light coat of chrome nail polish to the front sight and then a very light coat of orange. Enough to stand out but just fill in the ridges of the sight. It really catches the light when the ridges are visible slightly. Didn't need tape, have enough experience painting small things but would recommend it if you're not good with a small paint brush. You can follow up with a coat of top coat but if you have decent nail polish it lasts a long time. Didn't do the rear since I've got the black oxide version.

    To paint the front sight of my Ruger LCR, I didn't need tape to mask-off other areas, I simply used a very fine, artist-oriented paint brush instead, with excellent results (it came out neater than this). These brushes are cheap and available on Amazon, as was the Testors bright orange paint. I painted only the top half of the ramp.

    Do yourself a couple of favors if you try this. First, use PAINT. It's harder and drys brighter. Cover it with a clear nail polish if you want. Second, use a TOOTHPICK, not a brush. One small drop per coat is all you need and the sharp point of the toothpick is easy to control with precision.

    As an old revolver man, I'll say this....if your front sight is on the threat, you're good. The round may be a little high or low, but they will be springing a leak. Most snub nose revolvers tend to shoot low. CORRECTION: Most people tend to shoot low with a snub nose revolver. It isn't the gun's fault. Shooter's point low so they can "find" that front sight, but it isn't in the rear sight notch.

  • @44357514

    Nail lacquer is a good idea, but you have no idea on color which colors to use for night vision nor tackle training. You going to get someone hurt if not killed. Also you stated man talk then deleted review which was good. Just remember people if your going to use nail lacquer used to color white or yellow. And never buy a chrome looking pistol Bob one that's blooms or black for concealment and self-defense just because you flash a chrome gun will not save your life remember. unsubscribing right now
