    Got a tip for y'all here to Mask off the tires - use DISHWASHING LIQUID SOAP! Paint this all over the tire - LET IT DRY go ahead and spray the rim - (dont worry about going over the tire!) When the paint dries hose off or pressure wash off the dish soap it will lather up taking all the extra paint with it! GO AHEAD try it. Used this method hundreds of times, cheap and easy! GREAT VIDEO BUDDY!

    Thanks, brother...just bought a car to do up for my daughter's 17th and after watching your videos, I have the confidence to do all these cosmetic jobs myself safely and save that all important money.
    I have an innate distrust of garages due to my own ignorance (and fear) of all things car maintenance...but you're helping me along the way.
    Quoted £610 to refurb and paint my diamond cut 17" rims and the calipers both in semi gloss Matt)...but I'm gonna do it myself now... thanks again 👊
    Gonna put a brand new engine in for her and bring the clock back to zero... but will leave that to the professionals!

      Hey thanks! So you wanna wait till paint is tacky but not dry. Honestly I usually paint about 5-10 mims between coats. Any paint can will usually say "Between a few mins and 45 mins." You don't wanna wait till its dry
      But you also wanna give it atleast 3 mins or so to not be soaking wet. If youre in a super cold area id wait about 20 mins, And youre doint it in the sun or in a warm area liie texas, florida, Airzona, if say 5 mins is probably enough.

    • @BuddysDIY

      I did not spray the inside but you can. I find it pointless since light never gets in there. Also with a little bit of driving it will get brake dust in there and it'll be black as can be in there. I'd try tj get a few inches in there when you initially spray them. And yes they can be power washed for sure. Give them proper curing time and they will be super durable

    But I have a question: what do you do on the inside/backside of the rim? Do you paint that as well? If so, turn the wheel and the same procedure?
    How does paint compare against plasti dip?

    • @dylantheshotgunner5136
      @dylantheshotgunner5136 2 роки тому +1

      Plasti dip will flake off and chip especially in the sun since all it is, is a rubberized coating. Actually painting like this will last much much longer. And it would be the same exact procedure on the backside of the rim

    How badly will the paint be marred when the center caps of these "wheels" need to be removed when it comes time to put them on a balancing machine?

    • @BuddysDIY
      @BuddysDIY  4 роки тому

      This paint hardens like no other paint. It's not latex baised paint so it will not stick at all and have those peels. You can remove the center cap if you'd like but I've been painting my wheels like this since I was 16 and also have the same paint on my BMW (as shown in other videos) not a single problem. Even had my tires changed and the paint held up like a champ on the tire changer machine!

    For those who have already done this: how many cans of primer and bumper spray did you have to purchase for all 4 tires?

    Thanks for this video. I'm going to use part of this process but instead of rattle cans I'll be using a paint gun. Thanks again.

    I didn’t have any alcohol or germ-x, so I looked around the house for something I could use to get the dust off the wheels after I sanded them. All I could find was some leftover guacamole from the restaurant to night before. Turns out guacamole is excellent for cleaning the dust off wheels before you paint them. They came out beautiful.

    Won't there be an unpainted line between the rim and tire where you put the index cards?

    How did you paint the inside of the wheel? Did you just repeat the same steps as the front or did you just let it overspray?

    How many coats of the clear gloss should I put on at the end after the three coats of the black bumper paint is laid on ? And does that go right on after 20 minutes of the third and final coat of the black ?
