    Having worked in a bodyshop, this is an extremely well done step-by-step process for this repair! What's even better is that it's done with everything you can pick up at your local automotive shop over the counter. Because we had to take cleanliness to the next level to avoid customer complaints / re-dos at the bodyshop, I would also recommend painting the wheels on a cleaner surface, lessens the chance of dirt/dust particles flying up on to your work. Also, before the clear coat process, you could do a quick pat down with a Tack Cloth to make sure surface is clean as can be before you seal it in with the clear coat.

      Who on earth paints their wheels???, iv'e painted plenty of rims over the years, however iv'e never painted my rims and tires together!. You do realize that a rim is not a wheel don't you, therefore when you state "painting the wheels on a cleaner surface" what are you actually referring to???

    • @terryritter7065

      @@barrybarry5803 He's painting the wheel in an area that isn't free of debry or clean (11:00). I think the OP was mentioning using something like a concrete slab or some other artificial surface that can be cleaned and won't have a lot of particulate that can get on the wheel surface and ulitimately embedded in the painting process. As great as this video is, I thought the same thing immediately because a professional would never paint on bare ground, even with something under the wheel.

    Just a word of warning, I work at a place put tires on rims, don't try to build up too much of that bondo on the lip of the rim. Especially if you intend on using lower profile tires, sometimes the bar we use to lift the bead off the rim can require some pressure and I wouldn't doubt that it could crack some off if you try to rebuild too much of the lip. Some shops may have different, more precise tools, but just thought I'd put it out there is all.

    • @danc1197

      Why not just flip the rim so the inside is facing up? The tire only goes in from one side or the other so why scratch the finished side when you can scrape the side nobody sees.

    I found your channel maybe a week ago and I just wanted to say thank you. I've learned so much it isn't even funny. I'm a woodworker and I wanted to pass something on to you that might help you save some money as well. I use a sandpaper called Abranet by Mirka. It costs a bit more than your average pack of sand paper, but its a mesh, so it rarely clogs and cleans very easy. It has saved me hundreds since I switched. I went from using half a pack per project to using only one abranet disk per three of four projects (They come 5 disks per pack, it comes in rolls and standard rectangles too). I've had to use them on steel and aluminum before and work great. Thanks again for your hard work, it is very much appreciated.

    Hey Chris, awesome video. My son's mother has been driving around in an otherwise perfect town and country for years but for her corroded, scratched and oxidized rims that were so bad the clearcoat was flaking away, foggy and trapping dirt and brake dust....about 6 hours of stripping, sanding, primer, paint and 2K clear and she is blown away by how much she loves looking at her van again.... Thanks man, put a huge smile on my face!

      11 hours! ... now figure out how much you paid... "yourself" / hr... minimum wages at a fast-food (burger flipper or cashier) job, down at Mikey D's, Jack in the box or KFC will give you something to compare against... plus cost of paint, supplies, sandpaper, will tell you if it was worth it.
      Add in the benefit of personal satisfaction - of knowing that the job was done right - 'cause you did it yourself (nothing beats the pride of workmanship you get when you do-it-yourself). Oh... no taxes either! I usually pay myself minimum wage of $50/hr.
      You saved about $500 - $600 cash! verses sitting on your ass watching music videos or texting your loser friends watching "porn' in the basement 'apartment' at home.

    • @victorjbarker
      @victorjbarker 2 роки тому

      Nonsense. If painted evenly the shim distance would be identical to the machined surface. Also, rattle can paint is extremely thin once the solvents flash off. The paint is typically only 0.005" in thickness which is roughly the thickness of human hair or a sheet of paper. Plus the torque generated by lug nuts threads will be in the thousands of pounds per square inch on the wheel face which will squish the fresh paint evenly. I own a Metrology and calibration laboratory where we calibrate torque wrench's, coating thickness gages, gage blocks to the millionths of an inch, etc. and measure automotive aerospace and medical parts daily on robotic Coordinate Measuring Machines. Ive been in hundreds of manufacturing facilities of all kinds and seen many processes. The thickness of rattle can paint does not surpass the dimensional runout tolerance of OEM and aftermarket wheels, let alone the machining tolerances of brake rotors and drums that they are mounted too. There is way more runout on those parts than you would ever get with a layer or 2 of rattle can spray paint.

      u didn't show how to put back the tire weight and the thing to fill air in the tire

    • @xxDemonRider
      @xxDemonRider 8 років тому

      You don't put the weight back on, when the wheel gets mounted on a tire, it gets balanced(new weights are added) there. They also put in a new valve stem too.

    • @63ch31
      @63ch31 8 років тому

      +Braa Issa The valve is replaced at the tire shop. Also, they will have to rebalance the wheel as you have added material, so it would need different weights. This is also something you get done at most tire shops.

    • @Dylesxic
      @Dylesxic 8 років тому

      You want to have a new weight put on in another area AFTER they put the tire on, if you put the weight back on it more than likely won't be in the right spot. The whole reason the weights are there is to balance the wheel and the only way to get it accurate is to use a machine after putting a tire on the rim. The same place that puts the tire on should also fill it with air.
