In 1999, the Lutheran World Federation signed a joint declaration with the Catholic Church on the doctrine of justification, agreeing that we have different ways of expressing the same belief. In 2006, the World Methodist Council affirmed this decision, as well as the Anglican Consultative Council and World Council of Reformed Churches in 2017.
We are saved by grace through faith, but if you truly have faith, the fruit of that faith will be acts of love throughout your life.
Catholics and Protestants share a lot more in common than we think.
Justification and Purgatory are two subjects we actually agree on mostly, and it's too bad we waste so much time talking past one another.
Protestants are outside of the Church and therefore not Christian. There is no such thing as an "alternative" to the Catholic position - since it is always True and passed on by the successor of Peter.

Here's a position that's just as ridiculous:
Catholics pray to Mary and include a bunch of Saints in their teachings. Just like the Orthodox.
Therefore, they are not Christians.
They deny the direct teachings of Christ according to the gospels by doing this.
Your bickering stance, claiming authority is exactly the sentiment that discontinues debate. It's the same tactic used by the godless "woke" and their zealot supporters.
One in Christ. Denominations are a thin mark of separation between the different parts of the body.
Even IF the Catholic church is the Torso; by cutting off both hands it can no longer scratch an itch.
The absolute best thing would be to unify the Church. Somehow.
Make no image of me. Must have a different meaning in Catholic church i rest my case.
The way I heard it explained is like this, "We don't do works to be saved, We are saved so we do works ". As a protestant I've always heard that Catholics say works get you into Heaven, so glad that's not true!
Works follow you into heaven as in Revelation.
Works are just used sometimes to go with confession and frorgivness of sins
@@Chkysbfyfreakyso Jesus blood isn’t enough to forgive the sin, we must accompany it with a work?
Yeah you're so happy your religion doesn't really care whether you're a good person or not just as long as you believe this silly story what a corrupt piece of crap
Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." It is true that salvation is by grace, not by works; but salvation should lead us to do good deeds. We were created in Christ Jesus to do good works prepared by God. A true faith in God will transform our identity and purpose in life. I believe Ephesians 2:8-10 explains how salvation and good works are connected.
I’m a Protestant, I’ve been studying the Adventure Bible and Catechism in a year with Fr. Mike. When I learned what the Church teaches on Justification, I 💯 agreed. What I’m finding …I’m more Catholic than I am Protestant at this point.
Same. We just started catechism this year and are so glad to be learning more about the church and God. Hopefully you find yourself on the same path. Good luck!
I love to hear this. I was raised Catholic but I'm doing the Bible in a year as well and I'm discovering my faith 💯
You could always follow Christ and be a Christian.
Good for you. Don't pay attention to that comment above me. That guys spends his time trolling Catholic videos. He doesn't follow the bible, although he says he does. And he isn't open to learning a thing. Peace
It's lovely to hear that, I'm so happy to hear that God is working through your heart
I'm not Catholic, but I agree with this. If we have faith, we should want to leave behind our selfish works and start choosing God's works more and more as we get better at choosing to follow Christ every day.
I'm a protestant and totally disagree with the first video. Growing in our faith will show in the fruits and gifts of the spirit, and that is through the works we do. We cant just proclaim salvation because that's not enough
@@MTwinsAllDayThere’s a difference between growing in faith and a person’s salvation. Salvation is a one time thing. Works are done to enhance the Christian life and get us to serve God but it’s not for salvation nor to prove someone is saved
@kraftyval2162 I don't completely agree. Again people can confess salvation but if their fruits don't prove it, then their faith is by word alone. Of course I agree that salvation is a one time thing, because I do believe someone can be saved right before death and obviously they don't have time to prove fruits before they pass. But for us who live every day, our fruits are the test of our faith and salvation
@@MTwinsAllDayWhat you and the man responding n the video are doing is putting things together that do not belong together.
Let me explain. When it comes to salvation. It is the gift of God not of works. You cannot do enough good works to earn salvation
Now AFTER you are born again and saved by Jesus. YES works are important. That’s biblical. I will bless all the work of thine hands. Faith without works is dead.
There is a huge difference between believing works can get you into heaven and the works you do after you accept Jesus as your saviour
@benG3483 yes you got a totally good point. I think my explanation was very badly worded. I agree with the fact that salvation itself is a gift we could never earn, yes 100%.
I think it can be misleading and lead to hypocrisy though since people can profess salvation with lips and not truly believe it and not produce fruits or good works. That's all I was trying to get at

@@PLSTruth the main thing you just said is don't follow a religion follow Jesus!
@@PLSTruth You don't really hear much from Catholics a lot of them just go to church do their dues and go home. The fact that you don't hear Catholics talk about salvation through grace or works is proof enough that a lot of them don't really know much about the subject unlike protestants that actually study what the Bible says about salvation. I don't even see Catholics evangelize when we are commanded to do so by God. The primary reason why Catholicism is growing now is because of birth rate. Catholic parents especially the devout ones, baptize their children and influence them to grow in their religion and when they convert to another religion or show any signs of doubt then they are disowned or treated negatively, basically like how Muslims treat apostates of their religion but definitely not as harsh.

Yes, such a great verse. But it says religion, not salvation. Salvation and religion are two separate things.
Oh boy.... there is works eh? visit orphans and widows... keep oneself unstained from the world. It takes a conscious effort to do those things. If you are not thinking about it and planning for it... it won't get done.
Revelation 20:21 read it
@@DayoBrewa Well Well.. there is no Revelation 20:21. Rev 20 only has 15 verses. I will print it out for you so you don't have to go and look it up.
1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
It takes total wickedness to not have your name written in the book of life. It takes direct rebellion against God. Lucifer would be in that list. So would the 1/3 of the hosts of heaven that followed him in his out right rebellion. These people were in heaven with God and outright rebelled against him in his presence. They have never spent a day in a body that they could call their own. And they are the ones who end up in Outer Darkness.
@@jaredmason439the word is thrēskeia. Which is used 4 times in the New Testament: once translated as “worship” and three times translated as “religion”. The definition of the word is “ceremonial observance: - religion, worshipping”.
Christianity is a religion, because it informs every way of man’s life and directs man to worship God.
There is no true religion, as described in James 1:27, without salvation.
I’m beginning to understand that Mental Assent is NOT ENOUGH. Simply knowing about Faith, or simply having Faith is not ENOUGH. It’s what you do with that faith. I can’t sit here and be like, “well I have faith im saved” just because I know it, does not mean I am acting within Gods Grace.
Faith without works.... is dead. James 2:17
And for those who do not understand that when the spirit of man leaves the human body... the body falls to the ground and is considered dead.
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV

Romans 4:1-4 NKJV
[1] What then shall we say that Abraham our father has found according to the flesh? [2] For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. [3] For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” [4] Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
Romans 4:5-6 NKJV
[5] But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, [6] just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
Romans 4:13 NKJV
[13] For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
So how many works should a person do to know whether or not their salvation was genuine??
Salvation is a one time thing. Works come after but they are optional . It does not prove a person’s saved nor does it save them.
@@kraftyval2162 it’s not about how much works you do. Put it like this. What kind of Christian would I be if I sat and did nothing with my so called faith. The only ones who would disagree are the heretical antinomians. My biggest hurdle with Catholic and Orthodox faith isn’t even the stance on justification. It’s more the dogmas of their traditions. It's an everyday decision that slowly builds up muscle. Same with faith. It grows stronger the more we love, and one of the best way we can show our love is thru helping people. Peter denied Christ 3xs & Jesus gave him the Key, the 1st pope, so it is biblical & in all my protestant bibles & I wasn't raised in church & still see the Catholic in them - so yes, my protestant bibles prove Catholic is Truth
Let's put this into perspective. Each protestant chuch has some sets of doctrines that its congregation may believe. However these same protestant churches differ and disagree with each other. And if a member disagrees with what his church teaches he can just go to another one or make his own. If the church leaders are asked some question they don't have a ready answer to they may seek answers among themselves, chalk it up as non-essential, or disagree and break up, all the while each member will claim to be inspired by the Holy Spirit. If this is how chuches must be where among these really do teach the truth? I doubt this is what Jesus had in mind when He called for unity.
The Catholic chuch has the canon of scripture compiled by the chuch in the 7th century, the traditions of the chuch, some of which came directly from Hebrew traditions and the first century Christians and church fathers, and the magisterium, the college of bishops that study and decide all matters of faith and morals that must agree to a conclusion without any errors once and for all, and with the Pope who leads the magisterium, the clergy, and the entire chuch. The first members of which was Peter as the first Pope and the rest of the apostles as the bishops, plus the 70 who became priests and some as bishops as well. All doctrines and dogmas are decided for all to believe and follow.
If Jesus called for unity, which one is actually following Him?
"We have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time." Hebrews 10:10
The discussion between pretestants and catholics is in my opinion not whether or not grace is nessecary but rather if it is sufficient enough
God’s grace was and is still enough. Who are we to say it’s not then add our own efforts into it??? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (trust in him only for salvation) and not in your own works.
What about Christians?
I believe that there are many Catholics who act as though their works are what save them and that Protestants saying they believe in Jesus without living it out. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul and he will show you truth
Catholics believe we are saved by faith and good works. Protestants believe we are saved by faith alone, but to have true faith means good works will result. So yes, very similar.
Catholics don’t believe that. At least that is not what the church teaches, though maybe individuals may hold to that but they are wrong
Well you have repeated the falsehood that the prot said
They’re both adding works; Catholics frontload it while Protestants backload it
@@kraftyval2162 good wording
If Catholics believe you are saved through faith and good works then you do not believe the Bible. Period.
I love how you explained things. Very well said.
James 2:17 is simply saying if a man is saying he is a Christian yet he has no works to prove it, he’s probably not a Christian.
It’s not saying if you have works you are for sure dead. Read the full chapter for its context
Why would a Christian need to "prove" anything at all? God knows your faith.
It's an answer to a question: "How do we know that a man, claiming to be of the faith, really IS of the faith?"
This is a time where accepting such a man in your community could mean the death of all if not many of your fellow Christians.
It's a good guideline but I don't think it's an example of ultimate truth..
You are both right, paul said only grace not works, Jakobus (James) said works true grace because belief alone is a dead belief.
We just talked about this in our housechurch this morning and I read James yesterday.
Thank You God for Your Word, Your grace, Your love, Your salvation, Your gifts for us that we can share with others ❤ thank You that we are Your Children and that we are so blessed to have You as our Father!!! ❤
James was referring to having your faith be justified to MAN, not to prove your salvation. Salvation is by faith alone. Trust in Christ
Salvation is not to any degree an everyday gift we give God. Accepting the gift of salvation has nothing to do with works, if you think it does, you simply say that what Jesus did is not enough and deny his sacrifice.
Do you believe that we are to enter into a relationship with our Lord?
@PatrickSteil after salvation we have fellowship with God. A relationship in any sense takes work. So if a person has to have a relationship with God to be saved, that's works salvation
@@corkjv If THAT is what works-based Salvation means then sign me up! I have been growing in my relationship with my Lord for 35 years and Trust Him (Faith) more today than ever. His love is amazing, the deeper I go. And he not only saves me from the eternal penalty of sin, but he helps me to repent from any sin that negatively affects my relationship with Him my relationship with others and even my own view of my self.
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
There is not a single Bible passage that teaches us that we are not to live a life abiding in Christ, obeying His Commandments, living in His light - all for His Glory, all for the Salvation of the World (our life in Christ is not just for our own salvation, but for the salvation of the world).
@YuriiHusti What are you being saved from? Do you have to repent to be saved? If you repent then do you have to be baptized to be saved? If you answer no... then tell me... do you have to do something to be saved. We are not just automatically saved by doing nothing. So now tell me... what must we do?
@@MrNirom1 Great questions! You sound like me! :)

No, in his bio of the channel, he says "Roman Catholic" so no
There are Eastern Churches that came back into union with the Latin (Roman) Church, and are Catholic. There are different Rites in the Catholic Church, which Eastern is one of them. So it depends.
Orthodoxy bro here, good vid! keep preaching of our savior.
Brah Protestantism isnt about that
It started as a movement to unite all churches with a combined true theology
But in today what we who call ourselves Protestents disagree is with heracies of praying to Saints(ancestoral prayer of anya form) and imagery of saints well inside church, in the hall of worship, confession to your priests which is needed to be done only willingly not forcefully because you confess to God alone and He will guide you(Cry to Him in secret and He will answer you in secret), ligetimacy of the pope since the power that the roman Catholic churches gives pope is forbidden by bible since no one is exhaulted other than God alone. Etcc... Well im no critic but i kniw these are some things why in India 🇮🇳 indian protestent churches seperated from RCM (roman catholic mission) parallely as west observed the raise of their own protestentism
If Protestantism was an attempt to “unite all churches in true theology” then it has failed miserably. Come to Rome sweet home.
You just cleared up something that I and so many other protestants have thought the Catholic church believes
Once saved (if truly saved) you will exhibit those signs of “good works” naturally through the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you. However those works are not a requirement for getting into heaven but simply a fruit of being truly saved by God. Take the criminal on the cross for example. He didn’t have time to do any “good works” yet Jesus told him “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43.
Summary: You aren’t saved by good works but good works are a naturally fruit of being saved.
that is what I have been trying to say
Well the their on the cross didn’t have time to do any more good or bad works, so that’s different, and because of this, Catholicism teaches that if your are in your death bed works are completely thrown out the window as a testament to your faith because you don’t have time. Normally good works are what grow your faith into saving faith
@@Jesus_is_king-yn2ss it's not different works are not a prerequisite or a code requested to the completed work of Salvation And if they are then the work is not completed and we are committing blasphemy by adding The Works of man to the efficacy of salvation

If you're saved by works, how was the thief on the cross saved?
He was saved by his true faith. Anyone who says they have faith in Jesus but does nothing to help others (if they are able) does not truly have faith. It’s all about truly having faith.
Because Jesus was still alive. He being God forgave him. After his death and resurrection the institution of the Church was fulfilled. Things like baptism, sacraments, etc replace and fulfill the rituals of old.
@@deathbydank3206 Jesus is still alive.

@RigbyGroyperhe did physically resurrect from the dead, as seen by Thomas, so while yes it was his physical human body that died, it was also his physical human body that got resurrected just as ours will be one day
Exactly, saved by faith, but faith without works is dead
Faith without works is dead refers to whether or not our faith will be profitable off to MAN. Works will justify our faith towards man but that verse has nothing to do with a person’s salvation. Faith alone in Christ alone.
That's correct and that's why catholic doctrine does not save.
"Catholics believe this and that's why they are wrong!"
"We don't believe that."

Ok, but if you have to have the works to get to heaven, then you just disproved your own point.
Exactly… works are the product of a saving faith. The Holy Spirit that one receives at the point of salvation is how we bear fruit and carry out the works that God created us for. So no human work of our own, but all of God’s doing
True, we need a living faith to be justified and saved. That is the point of James 2.

Use the word Christian rather than protestant as they lump to many beliefs together. Christians are Christians and Catholics are Catholic.
Works we do is the ones God gives us and God bestow grace for it says those who he santified through his blood he santified forever.
This, it takes like 10 Brian cells to understand that. A strong faith will produce strong fruit. We are not saved by our works but our faith and our faith is an ongoing struggle through our lives
Ok your making more sense I trust faith without works is dead
He’s taken it out of context. The verse refers to useless faith if it doesn’t profit man. That passage was encouraging believers to do good works so man can see God through us but it was not about a person’s salvation.
Excellent explanation, man. Bless up!
This man is spitting facts❤
Exactly what he said the difference is. Faith and works of love
Heres how i always put it, salvation is through faith alone but actions speak louder than words.
Just leave it at salvation is through faith alone. The only way to be saved is to trust in Christ (believe in him) for your salvation. Your works will not save nor prove your salvation. How much works should a person do to know that they are saved???
@@kraftyval2162 I do believe salvation is through faith. Our deeds are not the roots of the tree, but are rather the fruit of it. Like Matthew said in chapter 7, you will know them by their fruits.
Mark 12:30-31
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.”
As a Catholic keep it simple 🙏
THIS right here is spot on!
As a protestant I agree with this. However, I believe that instead of having to do good works to accept God’s grace, that true faith and belief in Jesus will lead us to do good works in line with the new life He has called us to.
Exactly, just like James says “for as the body without the soul is dead, so faith without works is dead”
Works is the soul of faith, without it the faith is dead.
Matthew 7:21-23 (“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’)
That verse refers to the Pharisees who called Jesus Lord but never believed in him; they trusted in their works.
A lot bickering from protestants and catholics when the simplest point is the genuineness of faith. If your faith is true, your works (fruits) will be true and pure. If your faith is false, it would be rotten and foul.
Works can be seen or unseen. But the greatest works are those born out of the heart, hidden by mortal eyes, and seen by the Divine God. That is one of the many fruits of the true faith.
I'll keep saying this (as someone who is wanting to go the Orthodox route, might be considering catholicism) is that Catholics do not think salvation is attained through works, WORKS IS EVIDENT TO YOUR SALVATION. I keep hearing Catholics say this, which ultimately I gotta agree with.
I have to be honest. Whenever I see protestants talking about Catholicism... it seems like a strawman to me.
But my ultimate goal here is to tell all my brothers and sisters... WE ARE ALL CHILDREN OF GOD.
Though we may disagree with how we approach the spread of the Gospel (the great commission). But what we need to focus on the most is; How we represent God and how we Spread his word!

Agree. I wasn't raised in church & had no respect for protestants for bashing Catholics while they also had charities everywhere. I decided, as a young adult, to pick up protestant bibles & found the Catholic Church. I enjoy learning about Orthodoxy, & I confess, I get frustrated that so many charities have died bcz teaching the beatitudes is too Catholic. I volunteer at a protestant church & I'm grateful to help. We need each other, by God's design, & need to help each other instead of bashing each other.
@@PLSTruth I could not agree more with what you say. We are a unity in Christ, and in Christ alone is our glory, yet we can't even continue to make the conscious choice of unconditionally loving one another, as Christ has for us. St. Paul would be so angry right now, if he was alive having to send to many letters to so many denominations because they can't even get along.

@@PLSTruth That's what we should be doing, yet we keep denying each other because of some (not even fundamental essentials) minor problems. I know Catholics do not worship Mary, but venerate her due to her role within the Bible, which claims itself that God favored Mary (The exact interpretation can be talked through in a civil manner) but regardless. If God had found favor in someone, I think we as Christian ought to respect that person to an extent.
@@Ranchy_Ranchas a kid, I believed in Jesus & somewhat understood the importance of the Virgin Mary, having our Savior. Not fully grasping that, of course, as a kid. Why be so respectful at Christmas, then trash her & the other believers that give respect & honor to her every day? So confession here - I struggle giving anyone respect that doesn't respect, every day, the mother of our Savior. How can we claim to love Him & trash His mom? As a kid, what I expected from these people was - "you're my friend today, & will hate me tomorrow, since you do that to the His mom" . . .& I want to understand why they believe & behave this way, but when people are disrespectful to her, how can we ask to be respectful to each other through these conversations. The Eastern Orthodox Church is the True Church. ☦️
if you think you have to eat Christ you're not.
@ John 6:53-58, *”Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in you. Whosoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has Everlasting Life, I will raise them up at the Last Day.”*
The correct context of this verse rather than what Protestants think it is, is that you must actually eat physically his Blood, Body, and Soul for Salvation, for Communion with God. Trust the Orthodox Church and the Holy Traditions of the Apostles and the Saints along with the Bible and its correct context rather than your own interpretation.
@@TheLastDragonborn1245 Someone does not understand the Jewish metaphor here. In Jewish thought, bread was equated with the Torah, and "eating of it" was reading and understanding the covenant of God
@ While Hebrew has a lot of metaphor in it, and you can’t always trust the English translation, and Christ certainly used it many times, no. Right here it is real, and here it is the Real and True Presence in the Eucharist. Protestant Communion only represents his Body and Blood, not actually being Communion.
When Jesus says “Whosoever eats of my flesh and drinks my blood has Everlasting Life.”, this meaning is in no way metaphorical. Jewish metaphor isn’t in every aspect of the language of Hebrew.
Because if you do not participate in his Body and Blood, you aren’t saved.
I totally agree with this in the sense that God’s grace saves us but Jesus also says that if we love him we will listen and do what he commands us. Goes back to trying to put new wine into old wine skins.
and he commanded us to believe Mary was immaculate and a perpetual virgin that we are to pray to where?
Thanks for clearing this up! Some of us protestants tend to grossly misrepresent the teachings of roman catholicism. It’s alarming how Christians don’t take the time to actually listen and understand what their brethren believe.

One of many of the things the East and Rome can agree on 🤝🏾
Matthew 25:42-46

44 “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
45 “And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’
46 “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
Faith without works is dead.
I was raised Protestant, and converted to Catholicism about 11 years ago, give or take.
When I first started the journey of (re)discovering the ancient Christian faith, the first thing that set me on the road was a conversation where I found that Catholics and Orthodox believed on the topic of salvation, exactly what I as a Protestant already believed, simply from reading the Bible.
Protestants always think the biggest difference between Protestantism and Catholicism is faith vs works, or the saints, or Mary etc.
Catholics know that the actual biggest difference between Catholics and Protestants is the Eucharist.
Christians understand that eucharist means thanksgiving not turning bread into the body of Christ and think you are drinking His blood which God forbid, as did the apostles,
Nowhere in the bible did Christ or the apostles say mass or turn bread into anything.
Jesus challenged us to be perfect like our Father in heaven. He knew we can achieve this by following Jesus' example. The very reason why we have saints in the Catholic Church, they have achieved that perfection
But we’re not perfect so that’s why Jesus paid for it on the cross. If we got to be perfect and get to heaven that way then Christ didn’t have to die.
I'm not Catholic or Protestant, but this I totally agree.
“If anyone says it is by faith alone the sinner is justified so is to mean nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification let him be anathema. “
From the council of Trent. There is multiple instances it echos this thought.

“Only through Gods grace” get God could just deny you access to to heaven if he wishes, but throughly Jesus our position in heaven is 100% there is nothing we can do to lose that, “I am the way the truth and the life, none come to the father except through me”
