    As a four year carnivore, Ive learned that any deviation from the diet ( cheat meals) sets you back much further than you can imagine. Because it is a big mind game, sugars will do that, and it will take a long time to re-establish. Once you introduce something different inevitably you redevelop strong cravings and they are hard to ignore. There are foods we should not eat and we tend to fool ourselves that maybe a tiny bit of moderation of this or that won't be so bad. The truth is that if its not good for you don't eat or drink it not even a tiny bit. Think about what happens to an alcoholic who has successfully given up alcohol 100%, with just one drink they lose everything they have worked for. Those cravings are powerful and if you give in to them, you lose the game.

But I also love my super low carb salads and veggies and avocado. Plus the occasional cheat (sammies, pizza, ice cream, stuff like that). Few and far between, but they do happen now and then. So, I had that same issue (with any normal sized meal for decades) and it turned out that I had low stomach acid. I started supplementing with Betaine HCL with Pepsin, and now I actually have normal energy levels, and don't feel stuffed for hours after I eat. I feel like it's the first time I can even eat enough calories and can get the proper nutrients out of the food as well. If he hasn't considered stomach acid deficiency (if the struggle is with protein digestion) or bile deficiency (if the struggle is with digesting fats) it's worth looking into regardless of what diet he chooses!

    Me and my husband definitely had to find a compromise when it comes to diet. I'm strict carnivore and he takes a more Mediterranean approach. I worry about his carb intake and he worries about my fat intake lol. But we've learned how to communicate and understand each other and it's made all of the difference. When you love someone, it's hard not to want to control their diet because you worry about their health so much. But that's also the quickest way to turn ppl off and push them away. I also have 4 kids and they definitely side with my hubby about diet so I'm the lone carnivore in a 6 person household. Which means I'm surrounded by carbs on the daily but my health goals are important enough for me to overcome that. And I'm hoping if my family sees me succeeding then maybe they might eventually get curious enough to try it for themselves

    • @Swearengen1980
      @Swearengen1980 Рік тому +1

      Not likely LOL. Thinking there's only ONE way is always the wrong approach; both Mediterranean and Carnivore can be very successful and that will vary from person to person. And getting kids to convert? I wouldn't even try it with my daughter LOL.

    Thanks for the great vid, Bella. SO glad to see you are respectful to the fact that different things are right for different people. I had a similar experience with strict carnivore as Steak & Butter Guy. I did 10 weeks/2-and-a-half months of strict carnivore and also had general low energy in addition to losing too many inches and too much weight. I was imploding! My big issue was, after 2 1/2 months, I still had diarrhea every day. My gut bacteria couldn’t adjust to no fiber at all. I still do a good 90% animal foods in my diet. The only plant foods I added are a few forkfuls of sauerkraut to each meal and 1 serving of fruit (ideally in-season) per day. I also added a tablespoon of honey per day for some extra carbs. That seems to be working better for me. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more of your inspiring videos.👍🎶 what’s the doggy’s name?😀

      I’m a carnivore…but when I feel a cheat coming on I use keto snacks/cheats. I know it’s not the best, but I’m recovering from binge eating disorder so I don’t want to feel restricted and then binge. If a keto treat keeps me from a binge or even just eating a normal cookie/donut/whatever -that’s progress for me.

    I had a similar experience, was doing great on carnivore until I didn’t. 2 months of feeling great but then low energy, broken sleep, cravings for ice cream and chocolate, impaired immune system - never got colds on keto but had a terrible one for a week on carnivore. Was about to give it up but then accidentally had a VERY high fat day with beef ribs. Slept great and woke up feeling AMAZING. I finally realised that 60-70% calories from fat doesn’t cut it for me, I need more Paleo Medicina kind of macros of 80+ from fat. It’s more fat than I intuitively want to eat but it is definitely my sweet spot and is not hard to do. Butcher gives me free beef fat trim to add to my rib-eyes, I add butter to everything and omelettes have more yolks than white. It’s my guess that SB guy doesn’t need more steaks past when he feels full, more that he is getting protein-full as even rib-eyes are too lean for him. As a lean fit guy with low body fat who is also lifting the body is likely just unhappy with not enough dietary energy be it from carbs or fat. If SB guy wanted to get back on carnivore some time I would recommend trying very high fat, use dairy if it works for him :)

    Thanks for your honesty, S&B guy! I tried carnivore and loved the mental clarity and the way aches and pains melted away. But after 2 months I started to feel deeply fatigued and drained. Also, I'm very slim, and seem to be a "lean mass hyper responder" - my LDL (which was measured during my carnivore experiment) shot up from 100 to 270. My doc gave me a statin and told me to come back in three months for a retest. Instead, I added back in some carbs (especially soluble fiber, e.g. lentils) and reduced the saturated fat a bit, while still eating a meat-heavy diet. LDL came back down to 100. Anyhow, I know there's debate about whether a high LDL is even truly a problem if one's HDL and TG are good (which mine are). But adding back in some whole-food carbs (legumes, rice, veg, etc.) also just makes me feel better. So, that seems to be my sweet spot for me. A meat-heavy diet, but eating whole-food carbs as my body craves.

    Thank you for sharing. You two are both highly intelligent and empathic! You make a fine couple. I didn't like 100% carb-free either. I simply tweaked my macros by adding in a little banana before my sprints. I do have to "count" calories to avoid gaining too much fat even on keto. Here are my macros: 5% Carbs, 22 Protein, 74 Fat. Total calories: 3,300. That's all eaten in 2 meals a day over 5-6 hours. I don't do power lifting anymore but could pack on the lean lbs. by doing so by just increasing the calories. Experiment! Keep tweaking until you find what's best. If you tweak forever, so what?

The two of you are a shining example of this acceptance! I don't believe everyone needs to go carnivore, I tell people only try it if your unhappy with your weight or health issues, that just dropping sugar and processed food would make a huge difference to their life. My Daughter is now swaying to trying it for the mind set she has noticed myself and my Sister now have, especially the brain fog. I can't imagine eating any other way now, had a lot of great changes in the first 6 weeks, never find it hard, love that I have zero cravings for sugar or processed food. Lot of people just use carnivore diet as an elimination diet where you can strip down your food consumption to animal products then you don't get the exposure to chemicals and anti-nutrients that you get from vegetables and then after you make a blank canvas after a couple months of being carnivore switch to ketovoir or keto and then add back your vegetables one at a time see what might or might not inflame you. You don't have to eat a set amount of food on carnivore keto or ketovore either you can eat till your comfortably full and if you're not hungry don't eat. If you want to bulk up maybe you should eat some carbs and multiple meals a day so you keep your insulin higher.

I find high fat and protein very compatible with type 1 diabetes. Carbs are a juggling act and often cause a roller-coaster ride of sugar levels, a physical and emotional mess. Non-animal foods I eat as well are fruit, kimchi, olives, toast with butter and honey, dark chocolate (good for magnesium), and now going into fall/winter, squashes and potatoes.
