Man .... seeing u building a tank never ever gets OLD .... it's the same excitement i feel when that 300 G plywood tank was built by u in basement ......
Joey dose some real sick work, I still don't understand why Discovery channel don't pic him up and start a show on living life in Aquarium making and care taking of all freshwater fish!!! Your the man Joey keep up the good work...
Your 2000 gallons is so much better.... I love it. In addition, your wood-based aquarium is really well built, the wood just add something to aquariums... Good video, thanks for it.
Those angels in the 2000 look absolutely phenomenal! Thank you for sharing Joey everything is coming along nicely. I remember your first plywood build on this channel. I’ve been here a while. Take care ✌🏼
Absolutely fantastic Joey! And personally, I totally dig the idea of going through the sides or ends for filtration. Could "dress it up", give it a "steampunk" look! 🤤
With the piping if it was clear you could maybe make it like a water fall return? Basically look like you have water falls inside the bracings? No idea if it would be safe for fish but definitely unique.
As soon as you finished talking about building them to be bulletproof all I can thing of is some random guy just walking into your house, not saying a word, walking right past everyone w a shotgun on his shoulder .....to test your hypothesis. Love the videos bro - this one took me back to the original DIY days 👍
I'm a bit more moderate with the amount of tanks I have (mostly because of the missus) and am at 4 main tanks atm. I've built them all myself and they're all wood. The biggest one is 18 years old, 440 real gallons and houses some real nice discus fish and habitat relevant roommates. Next there is the 310 gallon lake Tanganyika aged 15 years. Another 310 gallons tank housing many many lake Malawi dwellers. Finally the current youngest tank is going almost 9 years, holds 284 gallons and houses the SE Asian waterbreathers. I am in the process of convincing the boss to realize the dinning room absolutely needs a paludarium with archers and a tropical rain forest above the water.
That is great to hear that your tanks have lasted that long. I have had some glass builders recently try and talk me out of a plywood build saying it won't last more than a few years. What Liner did you use??
@@mattdenefe5739 I used a 2 part paint on epoxy for all tanks. Liquid rubber can also be used but is a little easier for species like Ancistrus to munch thru. I reapplied this once after the tanks moved to our new house. Until now no leaks, knocks wood.
Joey- can’t wait to see the next installment on this build. I really didn’t think it was possible to do a wood tank. I’ve seen out of cement, and other things, but never wood, so you totally peeked my curiosity on this one
Joey, my husband and I just found your channel and we can't stop watching and learning! I LOVE how excited you are about your aquariums and your fish! We're just at the beginning of our journey with aquariums and it's nice to know there are folks out there who can and will help us. We saw the video where you talked about your personal journey, and we respected you before-now even more. I'm a teacher and I'm going to keep you in mind as I teach my students who are difficult. Thank you!
Back to building tanks. I like it. That’s why I started watching your channel in the first place when you made that glass stingray tank in your basement. I’ve kind of lost my interest in aquariums anymore though, but I like this build and will check in to see how it turns out.
This should be a 100% DIY setup. DIY Tank, DIY Filter, DIY Lights, DIY Decor........ Especially if it is going to be houses right next to the King of DIY Logo. BOOM. Mic Drop.
I think seeing the filtration from the outside would look pretty cool as you were describing. As long as it looks intentional and a part of the design plan, then yeah that's my vote. Either way I am excited to see this process, thanks for sharing :)
Yo that corner tank should be painted black and have plants in it growing out of the top. Would look insanely cool with a tropical theme in that corner. Great vid man
Wow your plans are so nice and I think it should be a nano tank with super small fish like chilli rasboras or you could do small tetras or rasboras so it will look like a way bigger tank but you can do what you want to 😀
Ok the best part of all is how u covered every single point!! Every pros n cons.. Everything u need to know in 1 video. The reason u r still the KING OF DIY!!
The gallery is looking INCREDIBLE. I love what you’ve done with it, it’s so inspiring and just so amazing! You deserve all the subscribers in the world
Ive wanted an Oscar since Joey first introduced them to me, but damn the contrast with those pink fish...imagining them in a dark substrate wooden tank with the oscars and the pink fish...my new dream. What are the pink fish though? I obviously missed the episode where he made that current Oscar aquarium
you are using my plans ahah i had the same idea for an oscar comunity plywood tank for a future home.. actually my idea was to try a paludarium for oscars with some plants getting out of the tank. its nice to see one come to life before i even commit to it. Great work as always
Listening to you talk makes me feel short of breath. Nice job my dude. I'm a Cape Bretoner living out west. Your accent and house remind me of home. Please just slow down a bit.
This is going to be EPIC. I have also received your book, and I would just like to say WOW its amazing. This should be every fish keepers bible.....👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
It is going to be so Nice! I use above the tank filtration for a few years now, not a planter, clear box so easy to maintain.Of course, built from your ideas, modified. I use big chunks of lava rock, quilt poly, So easy,
Can't imagine you wouldn't want a sump over a canister, considering how much poop a big school of oscars is going to produce. Seems regular maintenance of a sump would be much easier, especially if you use a floss or a big foam pad to pre-filter that you swap or wash out frequently, I imagine canisters are going to get clogged up pretty quick, and require a lot more time and effort to clean out regularly. I think you have been revolutionary to the hobby, Joey, for promoting sump use for freshwater aquariums, and I am now convinced they are the best way to go, especially for large tanks and large fish. I would only consider going back to canisters for tanks with smaller species and lower bio-loads. I hope you return to sumps for most of your tanks and keep the movement alive.
Joey I know this is way out of date but I'm considering a plywood aquarium build. I'm wondering why in this build you decided to do a "stud "wall" build for the walls but for the 370 gal build you put your arowana in you just did plywood? Thanks
Hey Joey! Idk if you will get a chance to see this but I just had a quick question. At night should I be using the blue light setting on my aquarium lights or is it ok to just turn them off completely? I’d love to hear your take on it!
Oh wow! This is great....onwards and upwards my man. Love what you do. I wish I would do such a thing for my channel. Maybe one day hey. Living the dream bro. That is for the content, really inspiring
Awesome!! Love seeing another wooden aquarium! Anxious to see what will be different this time! The corner aquarium is so interesting!! Always a fascinating experience! Thanks, Joey! Keep on keeping on!! Happy New Year!! Looking forward to the next video! 😃😃😃👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👋🏻👋🏻
I like the idea of showing the plumbing on the sides :)! But Im also the kind of person who likes a clear computer case so i can see inner mechanics xD.
19 years ago: a guy builds an aquarium using a handsaw and screwdriver. Today: 17,000 people watch the guy as he builds an aquarium (and that's just within two hours of posting).
You could add a triangular cabinet of sorts to each side to bring it all the way out. Then you could have your plumbing on the front but still be able to hide it with a swinging door on each side.
I found your channel about 6 months ago, shortly after getting my first 30 gallon. Maybe I am a little late to your party, but better than being a crappy fish dad for years before finally finding your channel.
Nice design. I love that you are not relying on the screws for downward verticle support. That support system would hold up a small car as each upright can support 1200lbs. All you need is a friend with lotsa tools. LOL
This felt like one of your old videos. Was a proper throwback. Really liked it.
Yeh nice seeing diy again
Man .... seeing u building a tank never ever gets OLD .... it's the same excitement i feel when that 300 G plywood tank was built by u in basement ......
Joey you really need to get one of those tent garages as a temporary Workshop LOL
No! you can't give him more room, he will fill it with fish tanks
@@joedafrog - at his rate he probably would 😂 but a actual shop could still be useful for him
@@firetoashes8752 agreed!
Happy you started back with these builds! This is why I began watching year’s ago and is why I’ll start back. Thanks!
I really like that he does what he thinks is the best option and what he wants to do instead of his viewers telling him what to do.
old school joey is back. used to love watching him do these builds.think iv seen every one so far.
I need to confess, I really enjoy the more mellow Joey voice over from time to time.
oh I miss this!! i remember when joey also make a wooden aquarium and stand. I copied it and its beautiful! this is why he's called the King of DIY!!
Joey dose some real sick work, I still don't understand why Discovery channel don't pic him up and start a show on living life in Aquarium making and care taking of all freshwater fish!!!
Your the man Joey keep up the good work...

Joey: "I'm not a very good craftsman"
Also Joey: Builds entire fish house and aquariums all by himself
Absolutely fantastic Joey! And personally, I totally dig the idea of going through the sides or ends for filtration. Could "dress it up", give it a "steampunk" look! 🤤
Your channel is inspiring me more and more every time I watch
With the piping if it was clear you could maybe make it like a water fall return? Basically look like you have water falls inside the bracings? No idea if it would be safe for fish but definitely unique.
So cool to see you building again!👍
Fantastic video!!! Just like old times, but better.
Joey back with a classic DIY video! 2021 is looking up! Keep up the great work man!
Oh Joey that was brilliant thanks for bringing us along with you on that one .can't wait to see it all finished
Just stopping by to make sure you're doing a good job 🤣🤣 jk bro love this corner tank! Great work as always
Wow I'm excited for the final look ☺️
Dude your awesome. Your house has to be massive for all of those tanks. Eventually I want to build an aquarium out of wood.
My god. Putting up an aquarium stand with a screwdriver. Youre a mad man!
Channel going back to its roots! Love it
As soon as you finished talking about building them to be bulletproof all I can thing of is some random guy just walking into your house, not saying a word, walking right past everyone w a shotgun on his shoulder .....to test your hypothesis. *Whispers*
“I guess im kinda like super man😏
“Just not as strong...
“Not as cute...
“......
“Im nothing like him.”
😂😂i love his sense of humor
Great artwork of wood joe you are a good architecture too lets see how its look like when the tank is done i am so excited.. Good luck!
You're energy is great Joey! Quick as a whip you have yourself another project 👍

I’m not saying Joey Is Superman, but have you ever seen Joey and Superman in the same room?
That’s what I have been trying to explain.
😳
U got a point
No
Joey- can’t wait to see the next installment on this build. I really didn’t think it was possible to do a wood tank. I’ve seen out of cement, and other things, but never wood, so you totally peeked my curiosity on this one

Oh Yeah. Getting back in the DIY !♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
When all the fish in the 2k were schooled and swarmed the surface after food was an awesome sight.
Going back to your roots. I’m excited

The King of DIY doing something diy........are we in 2015? (Love it)

I'm glad to see a DIY again which is way I started watching you to begin with. Can't wait to see it done.
Been following for a few years now and I still enjoy and learn and am inspired. Thanks Joey!
Very talented amazing watching you build these crazy aquariums
Ok the best part of all is how u covered every single point!! Every pros n cons.. Everything u need to know in 1 video. The reason u r still the KING OF DIY!!

I can't believe the oscars haven't eaten those tetras yet. can't imagine they would last much longer.
Love to see your old skill back . Back in the day you do this a lot 👍
Over engineering for strength... Love it... it isnt done enough these days.. at least in Australia... love your work!
Great build J!🤙🏽🤙🏽 can’t wait to see this build come to life!
Will you do this as a series please big fan

One of my favorite aquarium to date is the goldfish tank with the river stones you made awhile back👍🏼
Joey, get yourself a kreg pocket hole jig! Pocket holes will help make your tank stand builds look cleaner and stronger. Love the corner tank!
Awesome aquarium, great job.
Lmao 😂 those glo fish with the Oscars I feel so bad for them 😢😭😳
Power on my friend . Always love seeing what your up too. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 🍷
Been watching for years. Great work as always bro..
Wooden Aquarium brings back old memories
Awsome!!! I’m thinking about building one myself! So this is exactly what I want too see haha great work man!!!
Can’t wait to see it when it’s finished

Great job Joey, it looks awesome !!! I will be building a plywood tank soon to keep Stingrays in!!! your Canadian fan Tim
Since its a DIY tank, i think that would be a perfect excuse to make some of your DIY cannister filters for it.
good idea fella
Hilarious. I’m building a stand today using your videos! Thanks Joey!

Great video as always

12:08 Just found your channel, loving it so far. That "tree trunk" in the tank there is epic!
Looking good cant wait to see the oscers
Thank you 💪🏼 I’m going to build that same diamond tank. Bro keep these videos going.
U make me want to try this so bad..but I have been watching you for around 6 years and know you make it look easy.
Oh wow! This is great....onwards and upwards my man. Love what you do. I wish I would do such a thing for my channel. Maybe one day hey. Living the dream bro. That is for the content, really inspiring
I’d recommend putting the pipes were you want but then doing some type of removable face on those two areas so you can still get to the plumbing.
Joey have you made a king of DIY video game with yourself building tanks
That tank is going to look awesome!!! Cannot wait to see it when you finish & stock it!!
You mentioned the uprights supported 1200lbs (assuming @ 4' spacing. Where would i get the support info on by 4, 8, 10 and 12?
I like this energy! Still the best out!
Thanks for sharing man! Looking good!
Its going to look sharp when your done! ✌
So inspiring! I love this original content!❤️❤️❤️
Awesome can’t wait to see final results 😊

I like the idea of seeing the filtration u can make it look nice and put covers over it but it would be right there to show how it all works
LOL
You’re tempting me to rip a wall down in my house and build a plywood tank into it. This is a dangerous game hahaha. Great tank so far!
