To make the simplest of projects & edit the video & upload it takes time (could take a few hrs to a day for his bigger projects). Jimmy does all this for free. So anyone who complains they were not inspired should unsubscribe from his channel. Better yet, on your free time, replicate this project & edit it & upload it & then you will have an appreciation about how much time it really takes. Jimmy's videos are concise & show you everything you need to know to build something w/o any dialogue. That says a lot that any person from any country can just watch a video & learn how to make something. If you really watch the videos instead of just looking, there is a chance you will pick up a little nugget of inspiration or learn a new technique for building & fabricating. So thank you Jimmy for taking the time to make & share every project that you do.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I can literally watch your videos over and over and never get bored. I'm always waiting for you to post your next video man. You have an art for making everything in different ways that make people think and inspire people to create. If someone cannot appreciate your skills, then they must not be a true artist.
this one and the birdhouse are favorites of my kids (daughter 8, two sons 5 and 3). great demonstration of quality work with simple tools. we're gonna build a few of these together at my shop... as soon as I get the free bandsaw up and running. thanks Jimmy!
YAY! Something easy I could make from this channel finally. Now I just need to get a Wood Saw, Band Saw, Wood Glue, Sand Paper, Resin, Hinges, Power Drill, Drill bits, Clamps, Magnets, and a good size Log. ...At least I don't have to buy a hammer, I have one of those.
Great video once again. Makes me what to make my own, and upload them. Love the fast forward, cuts down on time needed to watch, yet still get the full picture.
Jimmy, I was really waiting to see your next video. I was wondering what will he make next. Your mini log chest that you made is really fascinating!! I wish I was there to see it all. You still have those magic fingers!! Keep up the great work and I'm already looking forward for the next video..
It was a great idea! Everyone else would have kept to the standerd shapes and use for those, really nice to see someone make a better one as you usually do.
doesent matter wich way you follow .. the important thing is experimenting.. Thank to share your experience and inspiring us Jimmy! Your works always inspire me.. Ago
I was looking for a new idea to create a Christmas gift with a bottle of alcohol inside. This will make a great and suitable container with a wonderful presentation. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
There is a comment below that says this video isn't very inspiring. Well, I don't really do a lot of wood work and haven't got an electric sander or band saw, but after watching this I am very inspired to try and make a little log chest. It might take me some time and not look as good as the one in the video but what the hell :-) I subbed.
This is a noob question, but what is the white stick that he rubs on the belt sander and the sanding disk during the vid? Does it clean the belt of locked in debris?
Specifically, it's called a crepe block or crepe rubber block or crepe abrasive cleaner. That'll make it easier for you to google if you want to buy it.
Another Diresta classic... I loved it... I am especially amazed at your ability to know exactly where to cut the log off so that you ended up at the "DIRESTA" stencil. You are a very very talented man in so many ways. (I guess you already know that though) Keep up the good work... Anon
Excellent project. if you wanted to make a slightly larger one, chop the ends off before taking the middle out. Take the middle out by cutting log in half, then putting the log halves diagonally on the table saw (best to use a sled for this), Once done, re-attach your end bits :)
I think this is a good project in the sense that a cylindrical chest is novel and its creation raises many questions - for example what can it be used for and how can the joints be hidden.
Sweet chest Jimmy. I got to meet up with you in Kansas City. Love the videos man! Widening/counter sinking the hinge, and the marker reference mark from the magnet. Great tips, and as always I walk away learning something to add to my toolbag of woodworking. Just wanted to say thanks!
Excellent work and nice to just get the facts. SO many vids out there where people just talk non sense. Your vids and work are so much better then the rest. Keep em' coming
That's a really well done job. It's a shame there's a seam running around the circumference of the log where you had to hollow it with the band-saw, but I suppose with this method there really wasn't much you could do. Might have to take a shot at making one of these soon. Thanks for the great idea! Much respect from a Gen-Y carpenter from Australia.
Well I'm always inspired by your work and execution! I think the project was skillful and I appreciated every second..... And to the uninspired guy... Even a Master Chef cooks hot dogs and tater tots sometimes!!!
very nice video and great result. Can I ask what trick you are using to clean the sanding surfaces from sanding residue while it spins? thanks and kind regards
jimmydiresta Hey got two quick questions, first off is that a dressing stone for sander? And why epoxy the piano hinge, it the wood a little soft and you were worried about the screws coming out?
That is neat! Now I know what to do with that huge part of the cedar tree that fell down a few months back. :) I can probably make a half dozen of those with it. :D They would make some great Christmas gifts for a few people I know. :) - Heidi
***** Not 100% sure how to read your question, but from what I can gather, I assume you are talking about the cleaner he uses on the sanding wheel/belt. You can buy them at places like Home Hardware/Depot or basically any where you can buy DIY items. For the most part, they are made out of some sort of rubber and they do a great job of removing material that is gunked up in between grains of the sandpaper.
***** you get the same result with a piece of heavy rubber, use old scraps that are left over, just hold them against the disc and it cleans, works on any type of paper, stone
Great and really inspiring as usual, but if you´d made the hinge approx. 3 cm shorter, centered it and left some wood at the top and bottom the illusion would have been even better. It would take a more tedious approach though. To be fair speed and great use of tools is what you excel at, you get to a 98% done and dusted project, in no time!

I like the trick with the epoxy to locate the hinge before you screw it. Neat.
+Donald Sayers Thats what i was thinking very good idea
Some of the sounds are SUPER satisfying because they are sped up!
Ikr 😂
It's Ysabela

These videos are a mixture of asmr & stop motion
& I am not complaining lol
By far the best filming/editing I've seen on UA-cam
i never get enough of your videos. keep em coming.
good,better,awesome,diresta!
Thanx for showing us your high level woodworking technics.
A lot of great tips in this video! And what a cool box. Great job!
I love the effort put in to make it line up perfectly

yes , he has all the toys and more
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Yep, inspires me to get a bandsaw!
Love the variation on the hollow log chest! Thanks, Jimmy!
What skills. I love watching your videos. As example, using the glue to properly align the hinge. Outstanding!
I'm researching for a project and the trick of gluing the hinges to the top to get the perfect alignment is great. Thanks!
Great video once again. Makes me what to make my own, and upload them. Love the fast forward, cuts down on time needed to watch, yet still get the full picture.
even sped up you can see how much effort it was to cut first off.
just discovered your video's, loving them
DiResta every single product is unique and awesome.
This is a cool project in itself, but the epoxy trick to locate the hinge is priceless! :)

Yet another work of art! This dude is amazing with crafts. :-)
This is the first time ive seen Diresta tighten screws by hand. Who knew he could be that gentle ;)
I was looking for a new idea to create a Christmas gift with a bottle of alcohol inside. This will make a great and suitable container with a wonderful presentation. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
marking that magnet was a good tip. jimmy knows every trick in the book

Always a pleasure Jimmy!
Nice work, always enjoy a new Diresta video.
would be a great container for geocaching
rsiku A log inside of a log, genius
+rsiku That's all I could think of while he was building this LOL. It would be a fun one.
I was thinking the same thing!
What is thst
Cool idea!
Going up the bush to find me some log's! love your work
Thank's Jimmy.
This is a noob question, but what is the white stick that he rubs on the belt sander and the sanding disk during the vid? Does it clean the belt of locked in debris?
Thats what it looks like to me. Maybe its hard enough that it just dislodges the particles. I would love to know
I just looked it up and some folks us pink erasers that kids used to use at school.
Skateboarders also use it its called grip gum you can get it on amazone or maybe a local hardwarestore
It almost just looked like a piece of hardwood????
Specifically, it's called a crepe block or crepe rubber block or crepe abrasive cleaner. That'll make it easier for you to google if you want to buy it.
You know you are good when trolls are out and about. Beautiful work as usual, Mr. Diresta!
awesome, fun, quick, It's the small builds I have time for (small children taking up most of my time) thanks, love your videos!

Even Anons like DiResta. 😃
With my own eyes, I have seen Jimmy walk on water.... many times.
I've watched you bandsawing before and wondered why you didn't put the pencil down. Ahah! A handy push stick! Great trick gluing the hinges too.
this guy drank a lot of coffee before sawing :D

this also works if you don't have a bandsaw like me :D
It is a pleasure to watch your work
Theses would be GREAT for a Christmas present!
Thanks man. You tuaght me a new skill i used to night on the band saw. Now I can fish for a life time.
some things you do is just so smart
In other words, a bandsaw box. Beauty!
Another Diresta VID! Nice touch with the old school saw.
Brilliant idea putting on the lid
This is too cool! I wish I had access to all those kinds of tools.
I think this is a good project in the sense that a cylindrical chest is novel and its creation raises many questions - for example what can it be used for and how can the joints be hidden.
Damn this guy is on another level. His work is art!

Great project once again. Thanks Jimmy.
If I'm having a bad day, just turn on his videos and just listen to the sound
Thing about DiResta is that thanks to his stencil ownership marks on literally every single item, I never have doubt who am I watching at the moment.
i wish i had all the tools to do this kind of stuff. i love being crafty
You are an artist ...much respect.
that marker on the magnet trick was epic!
Love your videos and tips, your piano "trick and epoxy" is a sanity preserver. Thanks!
It's 1am Ryan. Get to sleep. Why am I watching this man do this crazy stuff.
I beat you to it. 5:30 am here and wondering the same thing. lol
That's a very nice log chest you have there. Great video! It could be used to hide beer :)
This is the first video of yours that i have watched, but you just got a sub from me. very crafty work, keep making videos!
I loved the stencil that was revealed after the cut. ;)
I was wondering what you were doing with the two part epoxy then I saw you using it and I thouihgt it was brilliant. You sir are truly magnificent.
I use your videos to relax and fall asleep. :-)
Me too!

Very nice high quality and professional craftsmanship
So I have a question can you make the hinge hidden to make the box look like a solid log?
the8emperor
It is possible - however, it requires more sophisticated hinge.
Did you make the branding stamp yourself? Would be fun and interesting to see it done. Your videos inspire.
+JN 2013 I would also like to see that!
Seen branding stamps online..first time Woodworker 67 years old, loved his style work. I am proud of my art..I ordered a iron branding stamp.
Those course tooth saws like the one in the intro are great for tree trimming
very nice video and great result.
Good job! Please can you tell me what you use to clean the abrasive paper in this video?
Who else but Jimmy D could make cutting a log funny?
Wow! Awesome! Congratulations.
This is easy to make and pretty nice.
Btw, wanted to add... this will be a project I will wanna build w/ my 12yr son. Thanks for sharing the idea
I have a nice piece of cedar log that i can use to make one. Cool idea.
Super smart ! One question, with what do you clean your sand paper (on the tool) ?
Hey Jimmy!
Whats that block, that you are using to "clean" the sanding disk?
Pálfalvi György I think its just bees wax or something to polish up the container, not to actually clean the circular sander.
+madmanmax120 nah mayn its a cleaner stick
What is the purpose of sanding the other small block of wood between sanding what he was making?
Its a chunk of rubber. It cleans the pitch and resin from this sandpaper.
+Shane Gillespie Oh I see, thank you!
my new favorite channel
I like everything he builds.
this is incredible. great work man
Good Job Jimmy.!
Greetings from Argentina. Esteban
What were you using to clean the sanders? A hard wood?
very cool. from start to finish how long did that take you?
That is neat! Now I know what to do with that huge part of the cedar tree that fell down a few months back. :) I can probably make a half dozen of those with it. :D They would make some great Christmas gifts for a few people I know. :)

vwluis Oh, thank you
use the sole of your shoe, works really good
Great work man
Great tip on aligning the hinge with epoxy ☺
Jimmy... holy shit... that was some of the most dangerous band saw usage I have ever seen.....
Great and really inspiring as usual, but if you´d made the hinge approx. 3 cm shorter, centered it and left some wood at the top and bottom the illusion would have been even better. Yes you are right. I did consider this 1 minute after I passed it through the table saw. Thank you !
That's one badass looking saw
what do you use for cleaning the sandpaper?
btw, good job!
Really enjoyed that one keep em coming
J'adore ce que tu fais mec ! C'est juste magique :)
