    Watched a DIRESTA video for the first time 3 weeks ago.
    Man, I'm hooked watching DIRESTA video's.
    Me myself got a background in welding and construction work.
    Started wood work 6 months ago.
    Going back to the job market around april 2019.
    This man inspires me so much, including a shit load of lessons learned allready.
    Thank you Jimmy Diresta , I'll keep watching / learning.

    Amazing work Jimmy I feel privileged just watching your vids. As an amateur wood worker I have to ask. Why did you cut the strips on top of another board starting at about 2:26?

    • @jimmydiresta

    • @mckenziekeith7434
      @mckenziekeith7434 9 років тому +4

      +SyberPrepper It was definitely West System epoxy. They make a great product but it is expensive. Personally I have not had good luck using it as a finish. It builds like crazy (you can pour it on if the surface is horizontal) and self-levels, but it goes cloudy and turns yellow. If you let it cure, you can wet sand it and then cover it with one layer of varnish, and that seems to help protect it from yellowing. I think the varnish has UV inhibitors.

    I like the idea of using a plywood base with the board laminated on top -- that'll keep them from expanding too much and splitting apart. Great looking project, too.
    Do you know what kind of wood that is in the "white" squares? I used some pallet wood in a Christmas project last month that had a very similar grain pattern, but I wasn't sure what it was.

      I did some searching on woodworkerssource and Google images -- it looks like spalted maple...or some other spalted species.
