I've made 3 'standard' birdboxes today before running out of wood . Having a coffee , and looking for ideas , So glad I found this . I live in East Anglia , 🇬🇧 surrounded by trees , so I'm going out on the prowl , looking for some logs . Inspirational .
Love that this was all done the old school way. Great work as always
Great work! If I were you though, I'd remove the perch and also the platform, since you've now made it easier for predators to access the interior of the bird house.
Вся работа без электро инструмента - молодец! Золотые руки Уважаю
Dude , I'm a POWER TOOL kinda guy but you just sold me on getting my Dads tools back out and doing this !! AWESOME JOB !! LOVE IT !!
I love that it was done entirely by hand..no power tools..I was mesmerized!♡
I jist got done viewing the spoon you posted on 09-11-2014 ,so I checked here and so far I am blessed with a second vid.....THANK-YOU!,(as john your brother would say!).
I have always thoroughly enjoyed @DiResta's videos, I am only 2mins into this one and I am already blown away. It is so refreshing to see someone, especially an American, attacking some wood with a handsaw and hand tools rather than the normal machinist massacre! Thank you :-)
I like the way simple hand tools was used to make this neat birdhouse. Great job.
Super cool bird house! Loved the hand tool work!
NICE, Not even one powertool. All handcrafted and with some solutions that are that simple, amazing build DiResta!
Just goes to show that DiResta is a grand master with hand tools as well as power tools!
I would like to think Roy Underhill would approve. Great work on keeping the rustic look.
Using simple instruments it's very nice to see the way that worked out.
Traditional impressive method... Brother, u turned wood simply into house. nice.
I'm impressed. Turned out GREAT!!! Wish I had a shed to do things like that. Been thinking of renting one. I'm in a senior apts bldg. I'm a 68 yo female & they won't even let us build a garden. We can hv pots but they hv to be at a certain place. It's not fun getting old. They are NOT golden yrs as some RICH person said who can afford to hv someone do everything for them. I miss my youth. I'm active, just not as active as I want to be. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, L :)
From a "bird" point of view, this is the most natural bird house one can make. Great job!
I really liked the use of those older tools and using them in different ways just for the fun of it, thanks
It's official. Jimmy D is the most talented, versatile artist on YT. Always freaking amazing!!!
I really enjoyed this video. I’ve been making birdhouses for a bird sanctuary I started a few years ago. This video helped me get some new ideas to help get some new birds. Thank you 🙏
I'm 60 years old and totally impressed
Nice Watch!!!
Am I the only one who finds wood chiseling extremely satisfying to watch?
Wow, all with hand tools... So mesmerizing!
I love the sound of the sped up hammer, it very woodpeckery which is quite appropriate here!
Very creative, very enjoyable. As usual! Loved the old school hand-crank drill too!
Jimmy "unplugged" , I love it! Awesome build
Taking the band saw box idea to a new level... And no power tools, so this is Amish approved! :)
I wish PBS or DIY would give him a show again. His work is amazing.
Provided you don't count Jimmy as a powertool
This is glorious, been searching for "bird house plans lowes" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Daniliana Birdfly Babar - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got excellent success with it.
This is just superb, I have been researching "building bird houses books" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Daniliana Birdfly Babar - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got cool results with it.
He went medieval on that log.
ANOTHER Great Job...... Love the Old School Tool Build..... Gonna be some lucky birds living in DiResta land....
Thank you for another cool video Mr D.
The only reason I'm subscribed to Make channel :)
DiResta : Hand Tool Edition. Nice work Jimmy DiResta !!
Jimmy going old school. Like it a lot.
Great to see a hand tool project, good for me as am limited on my power tools. Amazing work
Absolutely beautiful a work shop where they don't have OCD but that's what you call hand made a joy to watch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🏴
Everything you make is just incredible. Thank you so much. You are my hero.
Excellent work. Not trying to be critical but either the roof should have screws or the floor should be on a hinge for easy access to clean out the previous years nest because of mites and cleanliness.
a great hand tools project. Don't get to see many of them these days. Keep up the great vids Jimmy.
Appreciate your patience into the job. Great and Awesome work for a little creature. Well Done.
Congratulations on your work, great dedication to doing manual work.
Diresta unplugged.
Hey Jimmy, I love your craftsmanship. I've seen all your videos. Keep them coming.
Old-school, like a woodwright... Like a BOSS!
I have a new nickname for you. Diresta the GREAT! Love your work man....
Awesome job as always! No power tools and your cuts were dead on, impressive!
I'd suggest using old cedar if available as the inside of the log is often mostly hollow anyway. If not hollow it's usually pretty soft inside. Saves a lot of sawing!
I couldn't watch you plan down the perch at such high speeds, your lucky you still have all your fingers 😁
Great work, looks ace 👍
Nice everything is done with basic hand tools, really nice!
Jimmy simply doesn't nail, they go in out of fear
WoW all handmade!!! Bravissimo!
I have the trunk and the tools and I want to try to make this nest this weekend, Thank, thank you for sharing
Great looking bird house and I really enjoyed how you built it but I’m from the UK and our RSBP doesn’t recommend a roosting pole be fitted due to the ease of predators gaining access to the bird house
Great job Jimmy, cool design and methods.
Great build jimmydiresta
Good ol' carpentry. It's nice to see things build old-school style.
Very nice and functional. Made with simple tools. I'm sure it will last for many years.
Really good project.thanx you.best wishes from Turkey
This is a truly fabulous bird house. As someone pointed out, too, the sounds of the work speeded up was pretty neat. I do like my power tools and do may have a go making a similar bird house in my lazy man style. A couple of things pointed out in someone else's bird house. They do need ventilation. They also need to be cleaned out periodically to get rid of vermin that get carried in on birds making their homes. I had an uncle who made a removable bottom using concrete nails in drilled holes. He should have used screws. The raccoons climbed the tree the bird house was attached to, removed the nails, and ate the eggs or birds that were inside. I no raccoons have to live too but.......
amazing. I'm impressed you used no electrical tools. I wouldn't resist that, plus I'm pretty sure I'd break the shell while chiseling. :-) You are a true woodworker. Respect.
Nice job and pretty cool looking, but an insane amount of work for a birdhouse.
Very cool birdhouse! Thumbs up!
Looks very nice, like the style.
i love watching diresta
If Jimmy was ever picked to be on Survivor he would be win the whole show. Within a week he would have Shelter with running water, septic system, solar energy and probably even a wi fi up and running. The Professor on Giligan's Island has nothing on Jimmy. Great video thanks for sharing Jimmy.
Survivor was about politics, not actual survivor skills.
per sebra Try to look past that and see I was paying him a complement.
Marc Eaton i know you were paying him a complement, never said otherwise I was just making a correction on what the show Survivor is really about. I remember the first season of the show had a former lady marine or something who was a seasoned expert on how to survive, she got eliminated she said because she didnt realize what the show was really about.
Is it only me loving the sound when it's speeded?
No, we all love the sped up tool sounds.
+Kottethebest_ClashOfClans interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out building a bird aviary try Debuncar Amazing Aviary Aid (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate got great success with it.
the given procedure for constructing a fancy bird house is easy and fast constructing one.the extra fittings given are very appropriate.i recommend Panlarko Expert Aviary Planner.

Kottethebest_ClashOfClans nope me
Great looking bird house
Some hard work and very creative. Thank you 🙏
Pretty nice saw cuts too. The man has skills.
Very nice Jimmy!
Schwarzenegger makes a hollow! With a hand hacksaw, cut the chock both lengthwise and across. This is Titan!
That is so cool ! I like the fast hammering lol.
That was an awesome video. Great job.
all hand tools great job, wouldn't expect anything less!!!!!!! power tools are not always the first thing you have to turn to.
Totally unplugged. Liked.
Great work jimmy.
A nice house for a luck bird :). Great job, Jimmy!
I like your straight edge, cuts wood well:) Excellent project and video as always!
Nice.
I like using natural branches with holes in them, I feel that the birds prefer these type of boxes.
Though may I suggest if you check what size hole is best for certain species you will get a higher percentage of boxes being used👍
Good work and good watch. Congrats ¡
As always, outstanding. Thanks for sharing
Супер!
Сразу видно, что человек любит то, что делает! Отличное видео!
That's a great looking birdhouse.
Dudes got some skills goin on there !!
Sometimes you need to unplug, just to know that you still can. I'm impressed. Especially since things like tenon cutters are not power tools, but still somehow feel like cheating.
Very Nice. Two suggestions. First, seal the roof seam to keep out rain water seeping in and wetting the bedding material. Secondly, lose the peg - only good that does is help the predators.
I sure enjoyed your shows where you were with your brother in that basement in the city.
Using a shim to assist the saw blade, mind blown.
You're a wizard, Jimmy...
funny note jimmy, when your working with the chisel, it sounds like your a woodpecker. Very apt considering the project! Great work.
Perfect! Only hand tools used! 👍🏻
Easy bro no power tool with antique drill like old school exellent work bless you thanks
Love it man. You're truly an inspiration.
Thank you. I've been thinking about log bird houses and this video gave me some techniques.
I would like to have access to the house to clean out the nesting material between seasons and round here platforms and perches have fallen out of favor as they can give predators a place to stand when attacking the nest.
Love it! Maybe screws on bottom for clean outs.
Hand tools are so underrated these days!
Master of hand tools
Bravo prelepo,interesantno...pozdrav iz Srbije🌲🛷🍄🌽
Will definately be making a few of these.
It's really refreshing to see a project made without the use of power tools.
Awesome video Jimmy.. thanks
Good job on the bird house
Measure thrice and cut once, bosh and the roof is a perfect mitre (also fits like a glove) Lol, loved the "make a dowel with an axe" sooo Jimmy DiResta... Still makin' mine with a chainsaw, though.
I love that you showed everything, but didn't make us watch 2 hours of video. I also like that you did it all with hand tools. Cool Stuff.
