Plus, the other two starters, Pikachu and Eevee, both have evolutions related to evolutions stones. It would make sense if the third starter, most likely Clefairy, also had that theming.
I always thought it was named Pallet town because all the other towns are named after colours so the place you'd start when painting would be to use a pallet to apply the colours
While your explanation makes sense and is probably the original intention before they retconned it, it's worth noting that painters use "palettes" not "pallets."
@@BrotherGreed I believe that homophones as jokes are pretty popular in Japanese writing so it wouldn't surprise me if the misspelling is purposeful because they thought it was funny XD they also cut everything down as small as possible to fit everything they wanted into the game, that may be a factor too.
@@XxYamiNoEnzeruxX note that the Japanese name of Pallet town isn't literally Pallet town (it wouldn't be spelled like this anyways, it'd be spelled in Katakana and thus they can't really misspell it as something that sounds the same), it's Masara Town, which comes from Japanese for "brand new" and sounds similar to the word for "pure white". As for the explanation behind the towns name, I'd say this is very clearly an anime-only thing, since a) the towns in Gen 1 are of course all named after colors, but more importantly b) it goes completely against series lore from the games, back then and now, because it claims Pokemon trainers to have already been a thing at the time of Oaks great grandfather, so even before the professor was born, probably more than 100 years before when the Kanto-games are set, when Pokemon trainers still would've been relatively new as a concept and there definitely wouldn't have been a Pokemon League yet, since lore back then stated that Pokemon are a relatively recently discovered thing in the first place, and in recent lore we learn Pokeballs only came to be around that time, and with them the idea of someone "training" Pokemon for a living.
I like to believe Clefairy was in the 3rd Pokéball in Let's Go, since it was considered as the Pikachu-esque mascot and subsequently almost got a Pink version game
Considering its BST is so similar (even being in between Pikachu and Eevee), it's also considered a mascot of sorts, and is also a 2-stage (at least in gen 1) that evolves via stone, I'd say Clefairy is a great choice. Pikachu BST: 320 Clefairy BST: 323 Eevee BST: 325
Gen 1 being inspired by Earthbound / Mother made me realize how much more sense it made having Pokemon Trainer and Lucas team up in Brawl's Subspace Emissary
Rhydon's early design and use as a mascot kinda reminds me of the dinosaur Digimon sprite in the V-pets. Also, it reminds me of how Tyrannomon was basically Digimon's mascot before Agumon.
I would love a full depth analysis on why Necrozma, Terapagos, and if you look at it closely, Eternatus all have some relation with crystals and their bodies resemble crystals. I’m almost convinced that when the ultimate weapon fired, it caused certain pokemon to mutate just as the evolution stones did, creating these three Crystal Legendaries
This makes sense but I really doubt that the "ultimate weapon" will ever be referenced again. All the theories line up perfectly apart from the fact that Kalos isn't the region above Paldea. I like to think the ultimate weapon created Area Zero and caused all of this but theres just no solid evidence for it
The problem with that theory is that Necrozma doesn't come from the main series dimension, so it would be unlikely to be affected by the firing of the Ultimate Weapon.
My theory on the 3rd starter in let's go is that it's Clefairy, as it was intended to be the mascot before Pikachu was decided on. Also pokemon pink is a name they've made sure to trademark. The pocket monsters manga also has red with talking Clefairy. So maybe it's Clefairy
The Pallet Town bit makes sense, as it's name in Japanese is Masara, which comes from masshiro, which means "pure white". Since ōkido also means oak, his ancestor's name is literally White Oak
I've had the fact of that it's called Pallet Town as all the others have names of colours, so the starting point would be of something to apply the colours with. It being named of the colour white though brings an idea of martial arts belts, as white is the beginning colour (I think?)

Two thoughts: 1. At 18:15, I wonder if this is an early sprite for Jynx. Jynx is in a similar Pokédex area as Electabuzz and Magmar, a yeti would likely be ice-type (as Jynx is), and, unfortunately, Jynx’s early design had the same blackface depiction as Buu does. 20:50 this leads to an interesting point: it's noted that Lt. Surge served in "the war" and in 1st gen this was strongly assumed to be based on a real-life war of some sort, given the setting included a lot more influence from and allusions to real life back then. Thing is, there are two strong contenders for which conflict this was supposed to have been: either the Gulf War (being the most recent conflict) and WWII (an assumption you sometimes just see for the obvious reason of "it'd be interesting to assume Surge was a WWII vet and former occupation personnel who went on to move to Japan and end up a gym leader"). On the one hand, the latter seems anomalous given how young Lt. Surge looks, if we assume the game was set in the same general time period it was released, making the "based off the Gulf War" interpretation much more logical. But it's well known that one of the trainers in the gym, depicted as an old man, refers to Surge as his CO. So either Surge had a career soldier under his command who just could not hold onto a promotion during all that time, or Surge is quite a lot older than he looks.
18:17 Seems this Pokemon named Buu is a *Beta Jynx*. (1) he looks a-lot like Jynx, (2) if he's a Yeti then he's probably Ice Type like Jynx, (3) in Gens 1-2 Jynx & Electabuzz & Magmar were a trio (before the Jynx controversy caused the devs to burry Jynx).
I agree so hard, like what the hell was that? So, Snorlax was based on a dude who happened to be nicknamed after an existing Nintendo character, so that Pokémon was based on Kirby? That’s like the Flawed Logic 101, lol. That’s not how any of this works! Sometimes I really wonder why I watch some of these videos when they *start* with such a BS “fact.” I know these content creators have to come up with content on the regular, but maybe branch out a bit and think outside the box if that’s the best you can come up with…
Ikr. There are so many "facts" in many of these videos that just make me want to scream, for example the "rhydon was the first pkmn" one. I think he does this on purpose, triggering people like me to comment his videos lol. I was wondering why I had unsubscribed him but after watching few of these "OMG SECRETS" videos I remember why lol. The effing concept art(even if very interesting yes) isn't a secret, it is a place holder for the time you work out something better geez! I could come up with a concept of a gas based pkmn(ghastly or koffing) and draw a fart cloud to keep its place before I come up with something better!
Which is also why I never watch any of anyone's "omg this could be a new regional!" videos. Hell, I could show you a picture of pink anal beads and say that is a new regional Onix!
boo was probably jynx beta design since they are both ice and jynx was a counterpart for electabuzz and magmar(we can see that in smoochum, magby and elekid)
Me, almost 31 years old Pokemon fan since day one, have watched MANY videos like this and obviously played Gen 1 plus remakes plenty of times. And when you said this video is only about Kanto, I was like: "Yeah what can you tell me about kanto that I dont know? Try it!" 😂 Then you said snorlax facial pattern looks like fucking Pacman 😂😂😂 You got me on this one, I got to cocky, I apologize 😂😂
I always find it funny Blue gets held up as some gold standard of a jerk rival when his actual personality is nearly non-existent aside from some light cocky jabs, and actual jerk rivals like SIlver and Bede are contentious at best. If Blue had been introduced in any other gen, he'd be called boring and with no personality since most of his actual personality comes from post-gen 1 games.
"Ground rose up..." given the 2D nature of gen 1 and the choice of text in that hm description I would assume that it would create a bridge. So what would happen is you would be at a river and it would cause a bridge to rise up. This seems like the simplest explanation, but that's just my interpretation. This may have been dropped from the game in the early stages when they came up with the surf hm.

That "old artwork" of the old amber... That was a very obvious Jurassic Park reference! With that mosquito inside the amber, that was awesome! The devz must be huge fans of Jurassic Park!

Kirby based on Jigglypuff also, pokemon facts you dont wanna know: dispite hatching from eggsm Pokemon have navels. Oshawott and Incineroar are prime examples.
Speaking of Kanto! The let’s go game have one of the most subtle but my most favorite hidden secrets! Let’s go wasn’t much for huge changes as other remakes- and one the things that stayed almost the same was the layout keeping the same locations the game has always had. But there is one thing that was added. In the mansions basement Is where the large test tube lies. It has been there in every game and stays the same but! In this game and this game only south of that room there is another. Instead of one large test tube there are 4 smaller ones located in the room. They are never acknowledged or mentioned it just there. But they still did add it and it most mean something! And to me at least it seems it might be in reference to a certain Mewtwo origin story. Think about it you never need a larger tube if what was inside never lived to outgrow it!
No you were right! 💀 I went and checked after seeing this comment and I had messes it up- it’s the test tubes that are new not rooms the rooms have always been there!!! I’m gonna have to edit the post now, thanks so much for pointing out the error!
Dude, the third Pokémon in Let's Go is Clefairy based on the fact that Pokemon Yellow was supposed to have two other games connected to it, being Pokémon Brown, which would have had Eevee as the starter like it was in Pokémon Let's Go and Pokémon Pink, which was supposed to have Clefairy as the Pokemon you get as all three Pokémon in these games were supposed to need a stone to evolve but was scrapped to put Yellow out because of the popularity of the anime. The Let's Go games aren't redos of Red Blue and Green, they are supposed to be the fulfillment of Yellow, Brown and Pink, though why we didn't get Pink still, remains a mystery.
6:45 my money is on the third starter being Clafairy - it was a starter for Red in the manga - was almost picked as the franchise mascot and Ash Ketchum's first pokemon in the anime before Pikachu was chosen instead - there was once the idea to have a Pokemon Pink version release alongside Yellow with Clafairy as the starter - i believe it was also one of the producers/devs favourite pokemon (could be wrong)
Another thing that can be expressed from Navel Island is that navels are something that’s related to oranges and in part even if they’re not the exact same islands, the Sevii Islands in the games are supposed to be similar to the Orange Islands
I want a Let’s Go: Meowth where you’re team rocket and your goal is to take over each city by beating their gym leaders and then the elite 4! I’d love to see all of the interactions with the usual npcs lol! Plus beating up people’s Pokémon and taking their money makes more sense now
Ground rose up somewhere actually sounds more like a translation for when you’d use strength to drop a boulder in a hole. Someone probably fixed the transition and left the scraps in the code. I find that way more plausible then an unmade HM. That’s definitely text referring to a boulder or gateway opening and just wasn’t translated well. Rock climb was several games off and that doesn’t sound anything like what the text says. This was probably meant for when you moved the rock on the pressure plate.
Old amber shows a mosquito not Aerodactyl, maybe a nod to Jurassic Park? Also I thought maybe it was called Pallet town because a pallet is the foundation for things like products but this town being the foundation for building off the character
1st off I enjoyed the video. Currently living in Yokosuka for a year in a half now. I use to pronounce it just like how you did in the video. But having Japanese Peeps as co-workers & friends you catch on real quick of how certain words are meant to be sounded like “Yo-kos-uska” Yokohama is also a pretty dope place to visit. I’ve checked out a Pokémon Center at Marui City Mall a few times already & some others that are scattered throughout Japan 🇯🇵
Since gIovanni is actually pronounced gOvanni because its italian, the Geo maybe being connected to him using ground types is probably just a coincidence
Pallet town is a fairly new built town and is called pallet town because it is colourful instead of being just 1 colour like the rest of the towns and cities
If that's how the residents of Pallet Town felt when Pallet Oak made it into the top 1000, I wonder how they felt when Ash became the World Champion? Did everyone who lived there vow to name their firstborns after him for generations to come or something? How do you top renaming the whole town?
Hello! I know this is a pokemon video, but I just wanted to shoot a fun fact about myself lol: I was in the Navy (recently discharged) and I was stationed in Yokosuka and attached to the ship on the left in the first Navy base picture! Haha
Pocket Monsters the animation novelization, also mentions that Professor Oak has two brothers: One is the Mayor of Pallet Town, and the other is the Postmaster. After finding this out, this puzzled me because there was a pokemon episode (I think it was an episode in the Pokemon Chronicles show.) that a kid was visiting Professor Oak's lab was there to get his first starter pokemon and the kid is supposed to be the Mayor of Pallet Town' son which would mean this is Professor Oak's nephew but nothing in the episode suggest that. The novel was made around the time when pokemon anime started, so they probably didn't that pokemon would last this long. And why later anime episodes would contradict a number of things. One more thing, apparently, Ash's mom runs a restaurant in Pallet Town in this novelization.
Elite four music gives me the chills till this day when I hear it and is sooo intimidating. I remember me and my cousin spent all summer trying to beat the elite four. Basically as soon as we did the new Pokémon games came out and eventually it was Pokémon gold and crystal that became difficult for us to beat the Jhoto league elite 4 we would trade eachother our highest and best Pokémon so we would have a strong team of 6

But it's well known that one of the trainers in the gym, depicted as an old man, refers to Surge as his CO. So either Surge had a career soldier under his command who just could not hold onto a promotion during all that time, or Surge is quite a lot older than he looks.
dermatologists hate him
Man, if they named a town after a person that enter the top 1000d, then they should worship Professor Oak as a god for being the champion.
I’m loving this series already, Hoops!
This was great, thanks so much
18:17 Seems this Pokemon named Buu is a *Beta Jynx*.
(1) he looks a-lot like Jynx, (2) if he's a Yeti then he's probably Ice Type like Jynx, (3) in Gens 1-2 Jynx & Electabuzz & Magmar were a trio (before the Jynx controversy caused the devs to burry Jynx).
the Sevii roman numeral bit blew my mind, I hadn't noticed lol
"Snorlax is indirectly based on kirby"
Aka not based on kirby at all lmao
Talk about a stretch
I agree so hard, like what the hell was that?
So, Snorlax was based on a dude who happened to be nicknamed after an existing Nintendo character, so that Pokémon was based on Kirby? That’s like the Flawed Logic 101, lol.
That’s not how any of this works! Sometimes I really wonder why I watch some of these videos when they *start* with such a BS “fact.”
I know these content creators have to come up with content on the regular, but maybe branch out a bit and think outside the box if that’s the best you can come up with…
Try it!" 😂
Then you said snorlax facial pattern looks like fucking Pacman 😂😂😂
You got me on this one, I got to cocky, I apologize 😂😂
This is cool. Please make it a series.
This was one of the most fun videos I've seen in a while!
More secrets please!
You are a great UA-camr I appreciate the hard work you put into your videos
Great video, mate! Keep em coming. Loved the content
The save-the-game sound has my dog's head turning. Lol!
The right pronounciation of the "gio" in "Giovanni" is "jo" (like in JoJo). I know it, I'm Italian.
I appreciate the reference of Giovanni's typing (earth = "geo" in ancient Greek) but basically Japaneses are wrong
I only knew 9/25 of these. Great video!
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
That “yeti” is very clearly an early design of Jynx
Good point
The scrapped Alola protagonist's design can be seen in some concept art that was featured in the original Sun & Moon announcement trailer
That "old artwork" of the old amber... That was a very obvious Jurassic Park reference! With that mosquito inside the amber, that was awesome! The devz must be huge fans of Jurassic Park!
18:25 you could say it also kind of looks like a unused jinx sprite. She's looking to the right with her eyes looking back at you to the side and that's her hair flowing back.
I think Substitute doll is based on Rhydon.
I would love to see videos like this for other regions.
00:34 click here to start the video
Kirby based on Jigglypuff
also, pokemon facts you dont wanna know:
dispite hatching from eggsm Pokemon have navels.
In every game? I haven't played the let's go games, but I'm absolutely sure there's no such thing in the basement in gen 1 or the remakes
No you were right! 💀 I went and checked after seeing this comment and I had messes it up- it’s the test tubes that are new not rooms the rooms have always been there!!! I’m gonna have to edit the post now, thanks so much for pointing out the error!
i wish they made kanto starters for all the mainline games, i miss venusaur in s&v
Maybe the third ball was a Rhyhorn.
Thinking about Prof Oak's grandfather being named "Pallet", yeah pallets are made out of wood..... Just like all the Profs are named after trees....
6:45 my money is on the third starter being Clafairy
- it was a starter for Red in the manga
- was almost picked as the franchise mascot and Ash Ketchum's first pokemon in the anime before Pikachu was chosen instead
- there was once the idea to have a Pokemon Pink version release alongside Yellow with Clafairy as the starter
- i believe it was also one of the producers/devs favourite pokemon (could be wrong)
"Ground rose up somewhere" might have been for Dig
I just assumed it would’ve been clefairy as the unseen starter
Seeing the old amber art makes me think it's heavily inspired by Jurassic Park
Another thing that can be expressed from Navel Island is that navels are something that’s related to oranges and in part even if they’re not the exact same islands, the Sevii Islands in the games are supposed to be similar to the Orange Islands
I know so much about everything it’s actually nuts
But you got me here
I want a Let’s Go: Meowth where you’re team rocket and your goal is to take over each city by beating their gym leaders and then the elite 4! I’d love to see all of the interactions with the usual npcs lol! Plus beating up people’s Pokémon and taking their money makes more sense now
Does the novelization give you the name of what pellet town was before it was named peleton? And, yes! I would love to see more of these!
Masshiro Village
Pallet town is a newly built town
I bet the other pokeball in Let's Go is Porygon. Cause ya know... they cant show it in the shows since the incident 😅😂
Cool stuff, man!
The story of Pallet oak would make a sweet legends game
Old amber shows a mosquito not Aerodactyl, maybe a nod to Jurassic Park? Also I thought maybe it was called Pallet town because a pallet is the foundation for things like products but this town being the foundation for building off the character
Actually getting called a loser by Gary Oak would have broke me
That last one about Pallet town would be cool to see in a Legends game.
We do NOT need another Kanto game but that detail could be implemented in a Legends Jotho though.
Poor _Boober_ 😂 ...what a name lol
1st off I enjoyed the video. Currently living in Yokosuka for a year in a half now. I use to pronounce it just like how you did in the video. But having Japanese Peeps as co-workers & friends you catch on real quick of how certain words are meant to be sounded like “Yo-kos-uska” Yokohama is also a pretty dope place to visit. I’ve checked out a Pokémon Center at Marui City Mall a few times already & some others that are scattered throughout Japan 🇯🇵
snorlax's head looks like kirby running with his hands behind his back!
This was a very interesting video! I hope you make more!
Since gIovanni is actually pronounced gOvanni because its italian, the Geo maybe being connected to him using ground types is probably just a coincidence
“Let’s jump ahead a few years to Pokémon sun and moon” bro that’s more like two decades 😂
Maybe the 3rd starter in Lets Go is one of the Kanto starters that didn't get picked by previous trainers
If you teach Missingno M 'Fly' then feed it rare candies using the infinite item glitch. You get a Flying Khangaskhan
Many of these I knew not!
Can’t forget all of the statues look like the rhydon sprite
Me growing up playing Pokémon since the original release…
The commentator: “these OLD! pokémon games….”
Pallet town is a fairly new built town and is called pallet town because it is colourful instead of being just 1 colour like the rest of the towns and cities
The buu yeti Pokemon also continues the trio theme with fire ice and electric pokemon
So would the mosquito inside the old amber used to get the Aerodactyl DNA be a Pokémon itself? 🤔
Maybe
So Buu is Jynx. Pretty obvious.
Wow, the Giovanni name-type link occurred to me earlier today 😲.
The nostalgia didn't hit me until "Smell ya guys later."
Indigo plateau has a higher and faster beat.
If that's how the residents of Pallet Town felt when Pallet Oak made it into the top 1000, I wonder how they felt when Ash became the World Champion? Did everyone who lived there vow to name their firstborns after him for generations to come or something? How do you top renaming the whole town?
That sun and moon cut protagonist is faaar better than what we got in the finalr version
Hello! I know this is a pokemon video, but I just wanted to shoot a fun fact about myself lol: I was in the Navy (recently discharged) and I was stationed in Yokosuka and attached to the ship on the left in the first Navy base picture! Haha
Also just bonus info: Yokosuka is properly pronounced "Yokoska" ^_^
Now we wait for Unova
I'd guess it's Clefairy too. Let's go was originally going to be pikachu and clefairy instead if pikachu and eevee.
Elite four music gives me the chills till this day when I hear it and is sooo intimidating.
I remember me and my cousin spent all summer trying to beat the elite four. Basically as soon as we did the new Pokémon games came out and eventually it was Pokémon gold and crystal that became difficult for us to beat the Jhoto league elite 4 we would trade eachother our highest and best Pokémon so we would have a strong team of 6
"Ground rose up somewhere" -
Sounds like earthquake was supposed to be important to VGC and Story
Now these are facts
20:45 POLAND MENTIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
