Yeah Sugimori's take on the running shoes shows that he was thinking of the game as a linear experience. But since its a large interconnected map that you explore and backtrack in, the running shoes are a priceless addition.

Notable characters that used regular Overworld Sprites in the base games had their new models for ORAS build based on their Anime Appearence. Here’s some Swalot enlightenment While Gulpin is shaped like a human stomach, Swalot specifically is supposed to be some kind of sack. His little moustache is meant to be two ropes and the kissy lips are the part of a tied bag where the knot is tightened. He’s not just a stomach, he’s literally a poison filled bag.
19:39, 21:02 - From the very first moment I ever saw Grovyle (about 20 years ago), I knew it was (at least partially) based some feathered dinosaur (velociraptor, archaeopteryx, etc). The design makes it very apparent.
Ken Sugimori and his art are integral to what pokemon was and is now. But I have to vehemently disagree with him on the running shoes. An adventure is fast, exciting, filled with thrills, chills, fun and friends. A walk can be fun but is more like sight seeing than an adventure. You walk to the start of the adventure, not through it.
Sometimes I wonder how these little differences would have effected my love for Pokémon. I never outgrew the franchise but I temporarily lost interest with newer titles being too hand-holdy. But I continued collecting the Pokémon card because they make me happy. I never sell my cards.

"I had used up the last of my food and water, so I thought I was done for, but then a Dragonite appeared in the sky." "That Dragonite led me all the way back to shore." If there was just one evil team and Ruby and Sapphire I think that they would be focused on controlling the airways. Maybe at the start they're talking about expanding the sky but realizing that doesn't really make sense around halfway through the story they decide they just want to control it. They get control of Kyogre and Groudon for some leverage, but their goal is to gain control of Rayquaza. I don't know what their team name would be but it would probably be somewhere along the lines of Team Ozone, Team Aerial, or just simply Team Sky. I don't know how that would work tho.
