question: do you think the performative characterization of the chef was a deliberate character choice or the writers simply writing him in that mindset themselves? watching the movie i felt the sense that we werent supposed to be agreeing with the chef on his views, that even his disdain for the people he invited was often just petty (the actor especially). took that as him now at the top of the food chain (pun intended), he's become just like the rich snobs he invited even if he looks down on them for one reason or another. idk just thoughts, awesome video btw 👍
This is an interesting interpretation, but I don't think that was the intent. Spoilers for anyone reading the comments: I believe his final act results in his own death, which is the cheap copout of all these types of critiques. "I hate everything so much, I even hate myself." That's not the same as saying the chef is wrong for thinking these things, it's a way to avoiding the question "how is he wrong?" Much easier to get one of the most attractive women on the planet get away safely to make us forget that part of it. It would be a little more stomachable if the point ended with the chef being as much of a jerk as the rest of them but it felt like the movie wanted to get the chef's worldview across without the movie being critiqued for having those views itself. This is part of why I consider it cowardly. Glad you like the video and hope you keep watching!
Great review - The Menu was easily the worst film I've seen in a long time. Also shame on the filmmakers for attempting to make us feel sympathy for the chef when (boo hoo) he used to like making cheeseburgers; he's murderous lunatic who kills people for... not having student loans? Just garbage, garbage, garbage.
Completely agree I’m best film to combat this awful film it’s with a great class critique film called Triangle of Sadness score5/5 best movie of the year for me
@@ArthurAugustyn bro the level on intellectual depth of your analysis o The Menu its telling me you will 99% enjoy T.Of Sadness. the only Cringe is the people who told you that
Hey man, don’t mean to bother you but can you do a list of best movies of 2022, if not, would you mind atleast commenting on what you think is the best movie of 2022, personally I feel 2022 was a very weak year, similar to that of 2020,2021 the last great year was 2019, I agree with Quentin Tarantino by the way(this is the worst era of filmmaking since the 1980s) what are your thoughts….. Great video as usual❤❤
Hey, I appreciate the interest! I’m working on a top 10 video and hope to have it out by January 1. I actually thought this was one of the stronger years for movies in a bit, but I agree with you 2020 and 2021 were super weak. I also agree with Tarantino’s general assessment. But there’s some good stuff! Thanks for watching and keeping up with my stuff, hope to have more soon.
i feel like the indictment of the "middle managers"/victim-enactors of exploitative systems were extremely popular for mockery in the 90s and 2000s, but it's embarrassing to see such a 2007-ass sensibility in a 2022 film getting great reviews
@@waltergroceries9534 Exactly. Feels like a script that's been floating around for a decade or written by someone who's been under a rock for about as long. Thanks for commenting!
You all hate this movie because you know you’re on the guest list lol
