- If you've been paying attention to modern black metal (that's actually good) at all, you're probably familiar with this Antimessiah fella and his Rostorchester and Totale Vernichtung projects. This episode of RFI is all about one of his other endeavours, that being the criminally underrated Vicarivs Filii Dei, as well as a couple other little things he's gotten up to!
Yell at me on the fediverse: poa.st/@Jiub

I've been talking shit about Dark Funeral for years. I can't believe I never thought to call them "Dork Funeral" but I will from now on
With the right tones and arrangement and vocals major keys can sound pretty damn good in Black Metal. Intriguing.
Well no I can't think of a major key vicarius fili dei song. A better descriptor might be that they include more diatonically correct major chords in their minor contributions, which is also common in NSBM and heavy metal.
The 2nd vicarivs album was my introduction to antimessiahs material
lol I'm pretty sure mine was Ritualmordlegenden after you told me to listen to it years ago
right as i got into the band, cool stuff! think I like this project more than TV/Rostorchester, his melodies and chord choices with vicarivs filii dei are truly something else
I kinda waffle between the three on which I like better, been rocking TV's Die Rückkehr des Schwarzen Todes demo a whole lot lately
Antimessiah is a fantastic guitar player. I think raw black metal is probably one of the best forms of extreme music when it comes to one's ability to showcase their guitar playing in a songwriting context. Not quite so focused on speed or shredding, but rather emotive and articulated riffs that compliment the song structure in a way that reflects an artistic sentiment in a very pure and meaningful way. Speaking of raw black metal, have you heard of or listened to the one-man black metal project Mirth? It's a pretty new project with a raw but also punky sound that's very reminiscent of something like Devil Master mixed with 'Total Death' or 'Ravishing Grimness' era Darkthrone (two albums I think should get a lot more praise than they do by the way). Either way, awesome stuff as always!
I'll definitely have to check that out cause I love Devil Master and Ravishing Grimness is actually one of the Darkthrone albums I go back to the most nowadays after Under a Funeral Moon and Soulside Journey.
Awesome project. Only one of them I still need to find is a copy of the first album.
I found it 2 Years ago on ebay. The seller didnt knew what he had and sold it for me for 10€.
Antimessiah's melodies do remind me a bit of Spite Extreme Wing and Infamous.
Two quality bands for sure.
Hey you probanly saw my comment on the vicarius filii dei 2nd album, great video, I was actually unaware of their first album but it sounds amazing. I find it interesting you think their darkest riff is a i VI VII riff. It's a common opinion of new students to music theory that what they thought were really great riffs became trite when they find out they followed simple structures like Em C D. I think they tend to be wrong and deluded by their psychological reaction to their new analysis ability. Sometimes simple is better. But also it's weird that you would think it's dark since it's so consonant and major.
The comment with the speech rythmic in German is spot in. Not only because of the rythmic of the songs but also because German is way more difficult to put on music compared to English. Unfortunately Absurd (even if I really like them) are a prime example how to really fuck this up. Jambus, Trochäus, syllable count, they just don't give a fuck. AM is a rare example of someone who masters this.
If you’re looking for new Bilskirnir material you might be waiting for a while. He’s been mainly preoccupied nowadays as the main guitarist and songwriter of the JFN Absurd stuff.
Shoot, didn't actually know that. Stuff's not bad by any means but I'd much rather have a new Bilskirnir or Ulfhethnar album.
Honestly I’d just be happy with some compilation albums. Bilskirnir for all the miscellaneous material that wasn’t included in the Hammerschlag comp, Ulfhethnar for all the non-full-length material and Absurd for all the 7inch splits and EPs. I’m a cd guy, I don’t have the time, money or inclination to be buying all these dinky trading card 7inch collectibles.
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337or some Ar*an blood…😎
Ngh!!! Yes!!
Jiub do you like Mordant Rhed? They’re sort of a mix of 1st and 2nd wave BM to have a sort of War metal sound, very hard to describe lol
Hatred of Humanity is still my favourite song of theirs
Honestly I don't even hear much war metal in their sound, their image just makes them look like a total Revenge ripoff band. I guess if you consider something like Zyklon-B 'war metal' maybe I can understand the comparison, but it's mostly a 2nd wave sound with a war metal image.
I haven't actually heard the band yet, I just like his channel cause he makes silly jokes.
2:05 me on the first date
RAZ0RFIST mentioned
This be that good shit my brutha
Just realized i have all 3 full lengths, each on a different format, TWU?
Would you ever do a full spite extreme wing episode?
Maybe some day, I feel like the Terminus guys covered it better than I ever could though
Speaking of Peste Noire and french bm, will you have a Necropole episode in the foreseeable future?
Haven't actually heard of them but I'll check them out.
I'd start with from their last LP, really stands out as one of the better releases from the 20's. Also check out Mavorim from Germany with their album 'Axis Mundi' if you haven't already. Btw. thanks for the heads up on Stormnatt, great stuff.
Do you have a telegram channel by any chance brah brah
I used to be in a couple telegram things a few years ago but I kinda got out of it. The main place I do anything social is on poa.st, but even then, it's pretty minimal.
