This is really great! A few months ago I started following a lot of your haircare suggestions. I was using the OGX coconut oil overnight before washing, and L’Oreal EverPure bond repair and K18. I was washing maybe once every 4-5 days, and using the L’Oreal Leave-In to try to make my hair look decent on non-wash days. I have 3B curly hair that is RIDICULOUSLY fragile. It breaks so, so easily. I think these tips were really helping because my hair gained 1-2 inches of length over those months. Sadly, I got kind of lazy and lost all of that length. It was further proof that breakage is the reason my hair “won’t grow.” I’m starting my diligent routine again and we’ll see if I can keep it up for a year and gain density too!!!! I’m hopeful, but it’s very hard. Diet (protein, I guess?) also plays a role for me. Thanks for your great content, as always!
I would love a video on internal causes of hair loss, even though 90% of it would say "see your doctor".The medics can help find a cause, but very few can offer good products to use during and after the hair loss to let us make the best of what hair we have left. In the last 2 years I dealt with two forms of shedding hair (plus some damage): 1. Annual hair shedding each autumn. This has been going on for at least 15 years. I lose enough to notice it myself, but nobody else knows. I figure it's due to summer heat stress (I hate hot weather). 2. Stress due to cancer. I'm lucky that my treatments don't directly cause hair loss, but the stress on my body have made my annual sheds MUCH heavier. At one point, I was down to about 25% my original hair density. The hair is growing back now, thankfully, but I fear another massive shedding. I know that if I shed again, there's not a lot I can do to prevent or stop it. I would like to see how to best care for what hair I keep, and how to maintain it until it grows out again.
I have dermatitis and every summer i go into this INTENSE hairloss period. My hair grew back really well this year, until a stressful beginning of summer. Combine that plus 2 weeks in a very hot and humid climate, and i have been shedding like a dog ever since. I too hate summer for my hair :(
i shed more in the autumn too.. weird, I read it's supposed to shed more in the spring/summer since our bodies think they don't need the extra hair (to keep us cool) and it's supposed to grow thicker in the winter to keep us warm
@@kite6864 Mine is definitely a reaction to heat. Shedding usually happens about 3 months after the initial stress incident. I shed 3 months after the summer heat arrives. Also, the shedding got started when I moved up North (Boston, then Minneapolis) and lived in a house without air conditioning. It wasn't *that* hot in the summer, mostly, but 3 months after the first heat wave ... I got air conditioning last spring, and hope it will delay / lessen / eliminate my annual shedding. So far, so good.
Could you do a “basics” video showing what kind of products to use when and approx how much? (Idk does the order in mask, treatment, conditioner etc matter? Yes girl make more videos following this up. My hair is looking and feeling a lot better since I started following some of your advice and I definitely need more❤❤
Yes to part 4 PLEASE! I also definitely think these hair growth supplement companies are quite exploitative, simply because they know hair science including that surrounding hair loss is still very sparse.
Yes to part 4! I experienced hair thinning in 2022 as a result of dangerously low b12 levels. Thankfully they're stable now but my hair has gone through many thinning cycles since. It feels like my hair follicle is more fragile now if that makes sense ❤
I have 3c hair. It’s really curly and I also started looking into using products with silicones, bond-repair treatments and I pre-poo with the OGX hair oil as well! My hair has never been healthier! Just here to say that your tips work for curlies too!!
My hair gradually got super thin when I went platinum. I didn’t even realize how bad it had gotten until I saw a picture of when I first went platinum 5 years earlier and it was long and thick. Right then I decided to go back to my natural brown, and my hair is getting so thick and shiny!

Just recently I started following your advice after chopping my hair cuz It was damaged beyond repair, I used coconut oil on my hair (not my scalp) and used Dove intensive repair and made sure to protect my hair. Lately, I've been eyeing the L'Oreal Professional absolut repair & Absolut repair molecular to add extra protection to my hair, I would love if you do a review of their repair lines. Thank you Abbey, I ❤ u.❤❤❤❤
I love your videos and information so much! I’ve been a cosmetologist for almost 30 years and I was always taught sulfates and drug store shampoos were the devil. So I’m coming around to the idea of using sulfates now because of you, but I have one question still lingering. I was always taught sulfates strip color out of the hair. Is that misinformation as well? And, an unrelated question:Epres shampoo and conditioner market themselves as “quat free” what is that? Have you tried the shampoo and conditioner yet?
Is the dove bond repair line available in uk, and are you thinking about trying that? I started with the bond repair one because Abbey liked it even more, but I was thinking about trying the intensive repair one too.
I stopped using drugstore shampoos for so many years now I’m back to using drugstore shampoo, conditioners, leaving conditioners, and my hair is thriving. I will not use anything else but silicones and sulfates.
Same,( although I mix it, cause I don't want to throw stuff away),now at the end of summer I would normally have to have a major chop all I need is a trim 🤗
It took a while, but you and Kayli Boyle convinced me to start using sulfates and silicones again. I learned they’re not bad for hair if used correctly. Education is key 👍🏻
Aphogee has saved my hair over the years from bleach. Have you ever done a review on that product? I know it’s mainly bleach that’s breaking off my hair.
My hair was so broken. Started doing the aphogee protein treatment every 8 to 10 weeks and lots of Eliza vecca mask and amika the kure. Abbey has really gotten my hair back. Also always use the coconut oil before shampoo. It is amazing
You have changed my hair for the better and I only found you two months ago. My hair has never felt or looked better since using the Dove Bond Repair line and realizing that drugstore brands are not the enemy. I wish I found you years ago. The amount of money, time and frustration I could have saved myself is insane. Thank you for educating us. I would be lost without your wealth of knowledge. I definitely want to say yes to part 4 please. I hope you have a wonderful day!❤
Experiencing postpartum hair loss after following your tips for over a year and growing my hair 12 inches! Just cut off 6 inches to make it look full again confident that I will be able to regrow it once PP hair loss passes. Thanks for all you do!
I hope brands aren't afraid to release sulphate based shampoo against rather than continuing to demonise this ingredient. I have incredibly oily hair and really need sulphate based shampoo in my routine to clean my hair. I'd struggle otherwise with limp greasy hair.
@@xoxorosequartz I went back to a shampoo that I used for years and loved but stopped because I was told sulphates are bad. But so many sulphate free brands did not clean my hair. Now I'm using it again my hair is PROPERLY clean and volumised. Because my hair is actually clean (sles and sls in the one I use), my hair looks so much better and my curls came back. I don't know why I ever listened to trends based on zero science.
I lost loads of my hair after septic shock and emergency surgery resulting in me being critical in hospital for weeks. My hair was also matted because of not moving for a long time. I rubbed a growth serum (Grow Gorgeous) into my hair every night for about 6 months. Eventually it grew back just as thick, but I'm wondering whether that was because of the serum or the rubbing motion stimulating my follicles 🤔 no idea but at least it grew back
You taught me that my thinning hair was breakage rather than some kind of alopecia so ii ditched the scalp serums & started taking much better care of my hair with conditioners & bond treatments, my very thin hair is getting thicker. Thank you!
I have been boiling onion and i put the water in a spray bottle in the fridge, about a week it should last. I put it on day and night. My hair has grown like crazy.
Great video. Yes to part 4 please. Also, I’d be interested in your thoughts on the John Freida and Kerastate bond repair lines too. Esp the former, most reviews online are partnerships and not independent.
Could you make a video on what brushes you recommend the most for blowouts and for regular hair days air dry tangle and brush out during the night I’m having a hard time choosing brushes and I know I have to replace them. They come to the end of life the ones that I have.
I just did a big chop (mid back to under the shoulder) and I’m going to try out all of your advice! I never even heard of pre-shower oiling before! I’m excited 😊
It has been hard figuring out my routine with my fine, medium, wavy hair. Sulfates can be good for my scalp when I need it, but a bit too much for my hair to cause a little frizz or make questionably too soft. What is currently working for me is OGX (purple) shampoo with (white) conditioner, and good beard oil on my ends. It is a little below my ears, so I don't think my hair is quite long enough to try leave-in.
My hair is triple the thickness since I started following your hair journey a few years ago. I followed it to the letter, from K18, Redkin Bond repair, pre shampoo oiling, oiling the mid to ends at night. ~~~IT WORKS!!!! Thank you Abbey ❤❤❤
I can’t find the WOW review now that I’ve entered your profile but I’ve instantly followed you. Thank you so much for the refreshing honesty. Looking forward to learning how to hold onto brighter, healthier fair hair. 🍃

where has this content been my entire life as someone whose hair is a big part of their life i looovvveeee your hair education content i would really want to see more if this
If Rogaine increases the length of the growing phase would that not help you to grow longer hair. I am not suggesting that Rogaine (minoxidil) would make your hair grow faster but just longer.
I so love your videos. I appreciate your efforts, research, and the time you put into making them Abbey. Can you please share what are your routines before and during and after dying your hair.
Hair must be wet for the mask or bond repair products to penetrate the cortex. But then why do swimmers suggest to wet the hair with regular water so that the water with chlorine DOESN'T penatrate the cortex. Can I get a good explanation?
I competed/trained on USA swimming club for years. 1) we all wear caps. 2) you shower prior to entering any pool, so your hair is wet per pool rules; then the cap goes on. 3) some of us put a little conditioner on hair ends under the cap. Not too much or the cap will slip off. 4) I washed AM and PM but none of us ever dry or style… training twice a day means you’re basically going to class with wet hair and always air drying because the training schedule is too demanding to allow time for styling. My hair was actually very healthy, long, natural blonde. But now that I do highlights and toning, and no longer swim, my hair has more split ends. 😂
I've had vivid haircolor for about a decade now, and I recently had a very hair-traumatic bleaching experience from someone who was not trained as well as they should have been. I'm so upset because I've had to dye back to my dark natural to allow my hair to grow back out as is has become sooo thin due to breakage.
Tons of great information in this video. Even though alas I can't benefit from all of your suggestions since I don't have the same kind of hair, I do like getting new ideas about things. One question I still have even though I did watch the video on bond repair products if whether these are good for non-chemically treated hair that is prone to split ends and breakage. This is my case because I have a combination of seb derm, which weakens the strands, and wavy hair. Water very definitely makes my hair break and I have not found the best solution to protecting the strands for showering. The only thing I have found is orienting the shower head away from the strands, using non-creamy shampoos and very high slip conditioner (yes, conditioner can make the strands break). It's ironic that people with straight hair put waves in it. I wish I had straight hair because natural waves have been a huge pain in the rear for me!
Can you do a video on short hair care ? Everything is about long hair but so many of us girlies have bobs and pixies. Tips like oiling the ends doesn’t really work for us because our ends are closer to our scalps. Anyway it would be really helpful !
Have you looked into the Philip Kingsley bond repair range? It would be interesting to hear your perspective on it considering Philip Kingsley is a well known trichologist and the brand has both in clinic treatments and off the shelf products.
I can’t speak for other peoples experiences but my daughter (18) has been on Nutrafol since November 2023 and it has helped her tremendously. Our hair stylist, who we see every 6-8 weeks, can’t believe the difference in her hair since she’s been using the vitamins. It’s not just the growth at the roots but the overall feeling and texture of her hair has improved and it’s definitely growing faster.
It’s helped me too. I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune diesase that attacks the thyroid and eventually the thyroid stops working. One of my symptoms is that my hair sheds more than normal and my hair loss was at the point where my temples couldn’t hold any new hair growth and you could see my scalp while looking at my hair line around my face. I started nutroful 9 months ago and you can no longer see my scalp and my temples are growing hair again. My hair shedding is back to normal. My hair is getting thick again. My hair stylists have noticed it as well.
Just as Abbey says. It really depends on the reason why you hair is like it is. If it is external damage then internal vitamins aren't doing anything. Also in a whole lot of cases they just add vitamins and minerals to your diet for an expensive price. You could just improve your nutrition and eat healthier to get the same effect.
Beware if you have iodine allergies. I'm deathly allergic to it and kelp is high in iodine. Kelp is in Nutrafol . My hair stylist suggested I try it. I looked on the website for ingredients. Thankful I did look and just didn't try. I would say anyone with severe allergies should always check ingredients for safety reasons .
Would love your opinion on in-salon hair deep conditioning treatments such as hair Botox. Are they worth it? my hair dresser recommends sulfate free shampoo when I get hair Botox to help it last longer.
I am curious if there is a difference in products for coily and kinky hair. I think that sulfate free was marketed for curly hair. We were told sulfates and silicones are bad.
I’m back to using silicones (just like I did when I was relaxed & my hair was fine), and my hair is doing much better!!! Much less breakage & single strand knots, and I just wash it well to remove them - no big deal at all! I do stay away from sulfates, just because my hair is bleached & really fine, but I do use clarifying shampoos without them, you get it all clean. It’s growing out just the way I want (although I’m not looking for super long hair at all). And I added in hair oiling before shampoo- again, used to do hot oil treatments with my relaxers. Those worked well then, so why would it be different now that I’m natural?? I’m doing what’s best for my hair now, not what the “curly hair experts” say, unless they are looking at my own hair when they say it 😊

In the last 2 years I dealt with two forms of shedding hair (plus some damage):
I would like to see how to best care for what hair I keep, and how to maintain it until it grows out again.
lab muffin beauty science has videos on hair and she showed research that people do indeed lose more hair during certain parts of the year.
I dislike how stupid humanity seems to be that we apparently, constantly need reminders to see our doctors about obvious shit.
Would love a deep dive into your trichology qualifications and training!
Sunday morning getting ready for church, doing my makeup with Abbey is always a great start of a new week ;)
awww thanks for getting ready with me 💗
Me too 🌻
I would love to hear more about hair loss due to PCOS and pre menopause. I can't even touch my hair without losing a ton of strands from the root.
Adding my hair is also naturally gray very course, wirey and frizzy but incredibly thin
I would love to hear more about it also!
Could you do a “basics” video showing what kind of products to use when and approx how much?
(Idk does the order in mask, treatment, conditioner etc matter? How many different products are needed and what is too much (idk, do you need multiple leave in products or so).
With a few recommendations for the different products.
Thank you!!!! I can feel my hair on my back for the first time in my life. I get excited every time I feel it.
yessss! amazing
Yes Yes YES to a part 4!!!!!! (Pretty Please!)
Yes girl make more videos following this up. My hair is looking and feeling a lot better since I started following some of your advice and I definitely need more❤❤
yay I'm so glad! will do xx
Yes, please do part 4!
Yes to part 4 PLEASE! I also definitely think these hair growth supplement companies are quite exploitative, simply because they know hair science including that surrounding hair loss is still very sparse.
I’m sick and feeling miserable, but a video from you has turned around my day!
Sending the good vibes, dear!! I hate feeling the way I do on those days, so the less days like that in the whole world, the better. 💕💪💕💪💕
awww feel better! I’ve been sick too I’m right there with you
Yes to part 4! I experienced hair thinning in 2022 as a result of dangerously low b12 levels. Thankfully they're stable now but my hair has gone through many thinning cycles since. It feels like my hair follicle is more fragile now if that makes sense ❤
I would love to see a part 4 about hair loss due to Covid and aging!
Fragrance free is the only thing I want to see on a label
Yes please, part 4. Hairloss video would be amazing 🤩
As someone with curly hair, I make sure my hair is wet but not dripping when I put on gel so I lock in moisture because textured hair is drier.
Hi Abbey, could you do a video on how citric acid and maleic acid repair hair? Theres no info online! Love you to explain it :)
Definitely pt 4 Abbey please 🙏 & thankyou so so much for this educational upload… would love more like this & you have a great few days to Abbey! ❤❤❤ 😊😊😊
Great choices 😊 and on my list to review! 💗
@@AbbeyYungThank you so much for listening, I love you always. ❤❤❤
It’s like you were speaking to me directly about the hair thinning. Loved
Can you make a video on the products you put on your hair after showering?
abby , your tips have helped so much dove intensive repair saved my hair tysm i wish i could try ever pure but i live in the uk
awww yay I'm so glad. and DANG I wish they were the same lines everywhere!
@@AbbeyYung ikr
Is the dove bond repair line available in uk, and are you thinking about trying that? I started with the bond repair one because Abbey liked it even more, but I was thinking about trying the intensive repair one too.
I stopped using drugstore shampoos for so many years now I’m back to using drugstore shampoo, conditioners, leaving conditioners, and my hair is thriving. I will not use anything else but silicones and sulfates.
Same,( although I mix it, cause I don't want to throw stuff away),now at the end of summer I would normally have to have a major chop all I need is a trim 🤗
I have some too I’ll prob eventually use but that’s a great idea to mix it 😊
silicones make my hair so shiny
Your hair tips are my fav!! Would love if you reviewed the brand Davines
Can we just take a moment to appreciate how good this color looks at you ? 10/10 for a hoodie/blouse selection 🎉❤
Yes, part 4, 5 & 6! Keep the info coming! Thank you!
Yes! Part four. You are so very interesting and informative. This old lady appreciates it very much.
I hope you have a wonderful day!❤
More, more, more, please !! ❤❤
on it! xx
@@AbbeyYung I’m excited, thank you my Queen ❤️
Experiencing postpartum hair loss after following your tips for over a year and growing my hair 12 inches! Just cut off 6 inches to make it look full again confident that I will be able to regrow it once PP hair loss passes. Thanks for all you do!
Love your videos. Use lots of your advice. My hair is significantly healthier than it has ever been in my life. My hairdresser is sooo impressed.
Abbey, you usually don't use colors like your hoodie, so just wanted to tell you that it suits you beautiful!
I hope brands aren't afraid to release sulphate based shampoo against rather than continuing to demonise this ingredient. I have incredibly oily hair and really need sulphate based shampoo in my routine to clean my hair. I'd struggle otherwise with limp greasy hair.
as someone with an oily scalp i find sulfates (especially sodium laureth sulfate) to be less irritating than the “gentle ones” to be honest
Eventually it grew back just as thick, but I'm wondering whether that was because of the serum or the rubbing motion stimulating my follicles 🤔 no idea but at least it grew back
Just subscribed!! I’m ready for my healthy hair journey! ❤
You taught me that my thinning hair was breakage rather than some kind of alopecia so ii ditched the scalp serums & started taking much better care of my hair with conditioners & bond treatments, my very thin hair is getting thicker. Thank you!
That is amazing!! I’m so happy to help 💗
Wow so early! Thank you abbey, your tips have helped my hair so much!!
thanks for watching and yay I am so glad 🥰
Love this !!!! I have hair loss due to menopause but damage due to highlighting for years. Such a helpful lady here. Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤❤
I have been boiling onion and i put the water in a spray bottle in the fridge, about a week it should last. I put it on day and night. My hair has grown like crazy.
That shade of pink is definitely made for you!
Great video. Yes to part 4 please.
Also, I’d be interested in your thoughts on the John Freida and Kerastate bond repair lines too. Esp the former, most reviews online are partnerships and not independent.
Happy Labor Day long weekend, Abbey!❤❤❤❤
Happy Labor Day weeked! xx
Could you make a video on what brushes you recommend the most for blowouts and for regular hair days air dry tangle and brush out during the night I’m having a hard time choosing brushes and I know I have to replace them. They come to the end of life the ones that I have.
I agree that sulfates are not necessarily a bad thing but they will strip color, especially red
I just did a big chop (mid back to under the shoulder) and I’m going to try out all of your advice! I never even heard of pre-shower oiling before! I’m excited 😊
Yes please to part 4! 💖
Yes, a part 4 please.
PLEASE do a video or a short on hair glosses/glazes. I have tried so many and cannot tell a difference at all
Yes please to part 4
Yes to part IV!!❤
It has been hard figuring out my routine with my fine, medium, wavy hair. Sulfates can be good for my scalp when I need it, but a bit too much for my hair to cause a little frizz or make questionably too soft. What is currently working for me is OGX (purple) shampoo with (white) conditioner, and good beard oil on my ends. It is a little below my ears, so I don't think my hair is quite long enough to try leave-in.
i’m at the point in my hair care journey that whenever i see “silicone free” on a conditioner bottle i don’t even waste my time or money on it
Same!!!
Yeah I was fortunate to ditch that bandwagon years ago, did nothing but dry my hair out...
My hair is triple the thickness since I started following your hair journey a few years ago. I followed it to the letter, from K18, Redkin Bond repair, pre shampoo oiling, oiling the mid to ends at night. ~~~IT WORKS!!!! Thank you Abbey ❤❤❤
Yes to part 4!!!
I can’t find the WOW review now that I’ve entered your profile but I’ve instantly followed you. Thank you so much for the refreshing honesty. Looking forward to learning how to hold onto brighter, healthier fair hair. 🍃
20 years of straightening frizzy hair as well as home coloring it due to grey hair …. Reaching premenopausal years and ending up with dry miserable hair ! Not sure what I can do anymore 😪
Also could you kindly let us know if Brazilian blowout can be ok to tame this sick hair ?
i've felt so educated by your videos, thank you abbey! i bleached my hair for +10years to a white level, and when i gave it a rest for the second time in my life my hair started falling out from the root. i know because i see the little bubble that's the root 😢 i went to the doc, my analysis are ok, i now take minoxidil because the docs say the hair loss is probably only liked to my anxiety but still no improvement and it's been like... 8 months. i lost so much density! i'm scared! and well, i've been anxious and medicated for a lot of years. all of this to say: i'd love to see a video on actual hair loss from the root! because of you i booked a dermatologist that's also a specialist in trichology so wish me luck
Hey Abby...
Thank you for the knowledge on how to take care of my hair.
My hair has grown 6 inches and is thicker than ever!!! Thank you so much!!
where has this content been my entire life
as someone whose hair is a big part of their life i looovvveeee your hair education content
i would really want to see more if this
If Rogaine increases the length of the growing phase would that not help you to grow longer hair. I am not suggesting that Rogaine (minoxidil) would make your hair grow faster but just longer.
Only if it's not snapping off at the ends. I just started my minoxidil journey since I'm thinning at the temples after turning 40😮
THANK YOU! So nice to learn this stuff! 😊
Yes to part 4
I've had vivid haircolor for about a decade now, and I recently had a very hair-traumatic bleaching experience from someone who was not trained as well as they should have been. I'm so upset because I've had to dye back to my dark natural to allow my hair to grow back out as is has become sooo thin due to breakage.
Hair breakage is definitely my issue 🤦🏼♀️
Love all ur videos Abbey, can u do a declutter part 2 please? ❤️
@@itskindyl so glad it’s working for you too! Hair loss is so hard and scary to go through…
Just as Abbey says. It really depends on the reason why you hair is like it is. If it is external damage then internal vitamins aren't doing anything. Also in a whole lot of cases they just add vitamins and minerals to your diet for an expensive price. You could just improve your nutrition and eat healthier to get the same effect.
You have to continue the supplements indefinitely, if you stop, you lose the benefits.
Your tips already helped me and saved me money ❤
Loved the video!! So informational
Would love your opinion on in-salon hair deep conditioning treatments such as hair Botox. Are they worth it? my hair dresser recommends sulfate free shampoo when I get hair Botox to help it last longer.
I need a scrub! Are they safe to use? How frequently? any you recommend?
Awesome video as usual!
Dear Abby, I get Brazilian Blowouts on my hair, so I SHOULD stay away from sulphates, right? Please advise!
I’m doing what’s best for my hair now, not what the “curly hair experts” say, unless they are looking at my own hair when they say it 😊
Thank you Abbey!! Love these videos so much
Thanks for watching 😊
Very helpful and educational!
girl that dove shampoo and conditioner recommendation from an older video...best tip ever !!
Yesss so glad you love too 😍
