    This simple drill Harry by pushing the hands down on the takeaway is an excellent one! What I have been doing for over a year now is pushing the butt end of the club down with my left hand and at the same time, pulling the shaft up with the right hand. Basically, the same idea as what you have explained. This move also produces a flat left wrist and a bent back right wrist and does keep the arms more in front of you as you rotate your body. Good Job Harry! You're an excellent source of information!!!

      Hi John, thank you, yes this concept is a great concept for anyone to achieve a much squarer face on the takeaway and a more reliable swing plane/ path! I find it interested that you feel it in the left hand moving the but end of the club down, would you say this causes the same outcome or a slightly different one?

      @@harryshawgolf I went back and tried the takeaway as I do it and tried to see if there is a difference in what you demonstrated. I believe I like your idea better. It seems like both hands are working as one unit by pushing both down on the butt end of the club which automatically pulls the club up. A "no brainer!" Thanks Harry for the question which led me to my solution.

    Wow, second time this week you answered an issue I've been struggling with. My recent struggles were confusing me as I seen so many vids showing the takeaway with the shaft "appearing" to be horizontal and back from wrists. When pros swing I always go the impression that they keep the club head "out" in the backswing but nobody talks about it.
    I'm guess the angle you show provides a much better wrist position..?

      Very glad this has also helped you Lee! Yes, setting the club like this to start the golf swing (the takeaway) is one of a few great drills I teach to set the club in the 'ideal' position for wrist angles, alignment, and being on plane with the priorities being the swing path and face angle. There's another takeaway drill video I've done recently talking about another great method. Feel free to take a look, but give this one a try beforehand!

    Works wonders, many thanks. Is the concept the same for the driver?

      You're welcome, yes, I can look into producing a video regarding the takeaway with Driver if that helps?

    Why don't people simply suggest taking the club straight back with the hands?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  6 місяців тому

      It's a little more complicated than that, taking the cub back straight can mean different moves to different people so it's important to help golfers develop a good understanding of how to feel the correct move to take the club back rather than just saying 'move to this position' it's important to know how. How's your golf going?
