    This is probably the single best drill I’ve seen on UA-cam. Especially for someone like me who has been fighting against early extension for years. I found myself doing this occasionally at the end of last golf season and striking the ball extremely well, but wasn’t consistently doing it correctly. So I really like the details in your instruction. I believe that this has been the missing piece of my downswing and the reason why I haven’t had the consistency that I have been searching for.

      Hi Dan,
      It’s so great to read you’ve found this video very useful! Thank you for your kind words and sharing your golfing experience, please keep me posted with how you get on from using this drill and if you’re ever looking for a second pair of eyes on your swing, follow me on Skillest!

    Excellent video Harry on how to transform the downswing! This is "side bend" move is something that I am working on in my golf swing! I probably realize it more in my fairway woods and hybrids than any other club. I know I definitely get it on a side hill lie via my follow through! Always enjoy and learn from your videos Harry!

      Thank you John, how many things are you working on in your swing currently? Another interesting concept coming to the channel tomorrow

      @@harryshawgolf The things I am working on are more or less interrelated. My main issue is hip turn and body rotation! I am gradually working through these. I'll let you know after tomorrow's round how successful I am being. :-)

      @@harryshawgolf Harry, the round is over! Very hot here in So. California. I was hitting the ball pretty solid, but in the end, started chunking 20 yd. pitch shots to short pins. Body froze up on these shots with no rotation! I'm feeling the swing is coming along though! Thanks again Harry!

      No problem John, maybe I should look into adding some on-course tips? What do you think?

    Please explain what you mean by "keep rotating" when the club is hitting the ground before the ball.

      I'll add this to my list of content for upcoming videos, what specifically would you like me to dive into?

    Again a great video but weight shifting when does it occur and secondly I see his wrist have flexed at impact. I struggle with this too. Any reason why we do this?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  11 місяців тому +2

      So when we get very upright and early extending the likelihood is that we'll shift our weight too far forward (laterally shifting) to try and develop more clubhead speed during the golf swing and for more distance. If you struggling to transfer your weight/ shift the weight forward, I can look into creating a video on this topic for you? Also one on the wrist angles and why certain wrist angles are more important than others...

    1) What if left-side flexibility is an issue? Or working with a belly?
    2) Just as a comment, I think there has been a few times where I've managed to do this correctly by complete chance and it always felt like my hands were way forward of the golf ball like at 5:37 before the camera angle switch. It was a weird feeling but I suppose perhaps this is the correct one.
    For example, I recall one time using a wedge and feeling this and the best way I can describe the feeling of club face and ball was that I squashed it with the face. It feels more squashed than compressed but again, maybe this is the correct feeling.
    I can't remember who it was that showed a drill but same idea with the hips but that with the arms because of the very fact that the feeling tends to be an OTT move, they exaggerated the feeling of quite literally bringing their arms/hands straight down.

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Рік тому

      If left-side flexibility is an issue, exaggerate this move as much as you can as long as comfortable, if it feels like you're straining your left side, reduce the exaggerated movements until you're used to it and then start to add a little more each time. For Q2 you want to ensure that as you're starting the downswing the hands are staying relatively (the feeling) behind you (on the trail side) so the club doesn't come OTT on the downswing. Regarding the feeling, I would recommend watching the video again and attempting to copy, film yourself doing it and whatever this feels like to you (check you're doing it right of course) but use that as a base point.

    Harry i saw this from Tiger practice...how do u coordinate this n the squat or sit down move in ur downswing from ur previous video?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  7 місяців тому +1

      Hi Frank, I would focus on one at a time, it’s difficult to bring both into play at the same time so I would prioritise one and go from there. Feel free to reach out to me on Skillest, I can check over your swing and can give you my opinion to which one you should prioritise first.

    This is the only way you can hit the ball solid with the split grip , hockey stick style , I know , I’ve done it ! John

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Рік тому

      I'm guessing you play your golf with a split grip? (Baseball) as long as it feels comfortable to you, glad this video has helped! is there anything you would like to see in particular on the channel?

    Should you not bump your hips to the target?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  11 місяців тому +1

      So when we get very upright and early extending the likelihood is that we'll shift our hips too far forward (laterally) to try and develop more club head speed during the golf swing and for more distance. If you'd like to see a video talking more in detail about the bumping hips to target I'd be more than happy to add this to my list of videos to upload. The most common tendency I see is too much lateral shift (bumping the hips forward) rather than rotation.

    Can Jack Nicklaus get in this position today? If not what chance do I got? Granted, I'm a few years younger than he is but not by much. This looks fine for someone who's still very limber, but for anyone over age 60, I mean how realistic is it to get into this position. Thanks

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  Рік тому

      Not at over 80 yards of age, but in his prime you wouldn’t noticed he was able to stay in his spine angle and rotation round it from the backswing to downswing. This is a drill for golfers to exaggerate the feel vs real affect on the correct lower and upset body rotation in the downswing and to eliminate any sort’ve early extension you see. If you’re finding this difficult to implement due to physical limitations I would advise stage 1 and 3. If you can do a little griot for stage 2 as opposed to non at all it’ll really help still. Remember this is if you’re struggling with the early extension move that’s ruining your downswing.
