Today's video is focused on WHEN we see someone's golf swing typically go off the rails.
It's not on impact. It's not on transition. It happens during the TAKEAWAY!
This is not a grip & set up video - but the place we see most swings start to derail are within two feet of the backswing.
That's what today's video is all about - teaching you how to make the PERFECT takeaway! - Спорт
If you never watch another instructional video watch this one 10:01 . I’ve not played a round in 3 years due to a job change. I found this video this week and it almost instantly got me back on track. Thank you guys for making this invaluable content. Easy to understand fundamentals. You guys are money!
Simply the best golf drill! Simplicity is genius!!!
Great to see you guys back! All the best Team AMG!!!
Thanks!!!
Bringing back the oldies but goodies for me today. Can always get better.
👴
I've been working on my posture in my setup everyday since last week's video. Bend over the fence, crack the knees, fingers to the top of the knee. While also working on my takeaway, doing your lead arm swinging back drill, that I'd seen in a past video. It's only been a week or so, but I'm feeling comfortable in the new and improved posture, and I've transformed my takeaway dramatically. To the point now where I almost can't do it any other way. Even without the drill, from a normal address position. That drill is incredible. I also fixed my grip a month or so ago, based on your videos. Had it too much in the palm my whole life. With these changes, I'm hoping for some real improvement this season. I can't thank you guys enough for making these videos.
wow!!! Youre on your way!!
thank you for these vidoes, very simply explained and going in to great detail. have really helped me
Thank you for watching🙏
Amazing stuff as always. You made a comment on the last AMG about “dumping angles”. I would love to learn more about that in a future video
Sure... the short hand explanation is having to release all the angles early in an attempt to square the face in time for impact (flipping, scooping, etc).
Great video guys, none other than the g.o.a.t. Jack Nicklaus said that 'front loader' drill you showed at the end was his favorite drill...
Super helpful! Can’t wait to see that drill pay off. Tired of my shut face over the top downswing. 🙏
Let us know how it goes👊
The one drill that really got me swinging the club well was the perpetual motion drill. It's very much like the drill here yall are talking about except it's a full back and forth swing. I still use it out on the course when I get a little off to get myself back in rythm. I got it from shawn Clement's channel btw. Love yallz channel.
Nice! Thanks for the kind words🙏
Fellas good stuff! You make a comment about an "angled turn" and I was wondering what you mean by that?
Didn’t think Shawn could read at age two!😂
Awesome video guys thanks for your time and expertise!!🙏🙏🙏
I like the drill and what you are saying. But unfortunately we don't start the club swinging. So I understand the idea... but how would we work this from a still position at ball setup up to the top? I do the drill and it looks great because I have momentum already started getting the club online, but it doesn't transition from the setup at a still position. Is there another drill or video that can help from that ball setup position. Thanks for the videos.
Where does cocking/hinging and rolling your hands come into effect in this drill? Should I be conscious of those aspects as well during the takeaway?
Off topic but this just video appeared just after I finished watching the first few section on the Academy Over the Top Fix section.
Mike said something so obvious and so simple during one of the videos, but something I have never heard put as plainly before.
It went something like "Every swing is a loop, it's either out then in or in then out. What you want is out then in so on the takeaway you need to leave space in front of you to move the club into."
I'd suggest doing a video on this, just getting folks to think about the loop they are creating. I did this and it resulted in me shallowing the club and coming down on plane much more easily.
Anyway ta for this and atb. I think you guys are the future of golf training.
Awesome to hear that little idea of the loop is working for you. Love it!
As always, your videos, explanations and drills provide real world applicable solutions ... much appreciated. Because of your tech experience, you’ve likely heard of the smart insoles available. Please if possible since we are not all able to take advantage of your services, let us know if you believe these would be helpful. Thanks so much!
Interesting, the last comment made in the video. The forward press when utilized properly in the mind can be of great benefit in the golf swing. Mine actually isn’t a press, it’s a move that creates the feel of the club coming down into motion starting the backswing. The thing is, it’s more complicated than that, the feet and hips move in conjunction with it. Rhythm. I don’t think your jobs will be in jeopardy any time soon as the golf swing when done efficiently is one of the most complicated things in sport. There almost always is a way to improve it and consistency is the key.
Thanks
Great comments about the "press" not being done with hands but lower body move 👍
I have been working on this a lot lately. I find My backswing plane gets off if I manipulate my wrists. If I leave my wrists in the address position in the takeaway and backswing my hands and club stay on plane all the way to the top. BTW- I’ve been using a LiveView camera and it has helped me improve significantly, more than I can find words to express. Best golf training aid I have ever purchased.
Love it. Live view is amazing :)
How do you leave them in that position though?
Guys, I have been looking through your videos on the backswing. I am taking it back outside the target line and from there laying it off at the top. Like you say, in the mirror or slow motion I put the club perfectly on plane in the backswing but as soon as I put more motion in the swing it all falls apart. I will keep doing this drill for a while. I also do the drill where you put the club on the right shoulder, turn, and just lift the arms. Do you think this is a helpful drill to do? Should you hit a ball from that position?
Nice videos. They're tight, packed up with info, no fluff, but personable. I'll give this a try. I play to about an 8 hdcp. I hit my irons like a 3 and spray my driver like a 20. It's embarrassing and costs me tons of shots. The takeaway even feels bad on the driver. Just awkward. I have no confidence in it and I know I'm trying to "place it" or as I say "steer it". Even hitting 3W and 4 iron off tees saves me shots but I'm losing over what I could be getting with the extra 30 yards since I'm hitting 5's and 7's in when I should be wedge or 8.
Let us know how it goes!
The idea that if you are making a half or 3/4 swing, that you want the clubhead on plane is very convincing, but did I miss that in you video?
I've done that drill but it's the situation that you said - once I start from a static club everything goes back to how it was before
Sounds like need to work on getting to that spot with some motion and feedback.
You should always be in motion, hence AMG. A forward press of the club handle, releasing pressure from the left heel... There are many ways to start from a non-static position. Try a couple, see what works!
Hi Guys, been following you for a while now and your always asking what other content that you want is your viewers to ask for. Well ... I play at a good level. Yet I struggle with with backswing as I turn early and drag my arms in. I play of +1 but I know I can be better.
So I want to understand your thoughts on
Turn or get turned on the backswing.
I.E How should you apply force or tension and where with what, to create the backswing movement from a stationary address position.
- And when you do this how that shows up on gears to give you a neutral looking backswing with correct amount of turn and blended arm elevation.
My fingers are crossed for this one!
Keep up the great work. @A_M_Golf
we like to use a swing trigger....an little bump toward the target then go.
Can we get a video on the steepest swing possible, and the flattest swing possible? It would be nice to see the parameters we need to keep it in as an amateur
good question, but given there is some latitude, why not work on what feels easier for you personally?
9:50 minutes in ....great drill that I will definitely try, thank you
Thanks so much
When I get to the top of my swing with 50/50 weight on both legs. Do I make a lateral move while turning at the top ? Or should the lateral move be before getting to the top
It shouldn be 50/50 and yes a lateral move should always happen.
I think the one piece takeaway has been given a bad rap and had been misunderstood by amateur players and for good reason. Starting away with the shoulders, arms and hands for the first 10" to a foot, I think at most, provides the proper sequence of motion in that if the arms start back first and too quickly, like you say here, you'll have to compensate to recover the proper swing sequence with no time to do that. After that it has to be a blend of arm swing and turn. Setting that initial sequence is really important. Jack's advice had always helped me get back on track.. Slow back for the first foot or so in one piece. But I know better than to get too deep early. That's what I feel anyway so could be dead wrong 😂 I guess more simply said, I feel like the motion starts with the shoulders kind of but not just with the shoulders.
I think I got it
I have a question about shifting.
When I get to the top of my swing I have 50/50 pressure on both of my legs. Should I shift from the top or should I shift at right arm parallel to start my downswing?
Also when you do shift its a combination of going forward and turning right?
8:38
Fixing takeaway is so difficult i struggle with it so much, i get across the line too much and find it very difficult to get the club at the right place at the top
Do you work on it with feedback?
I've had lessons with some great teachers and nobody has ever fixed my inside move...at this point I just give up.
I like your backswing drill, and hope that it will help the majority of your audience.
Looks like the drill you demonstrate is a combination of pressure shift, forearm rotation, and arm lift?
When I do your drill it feels very natural and athletic, but by golly we don't play golf that way.
We start from a static position, with the club behind the ball and the drill has not been very useful to me for this reason.
Also, I swear that when I look at some pretty darned good golfers such as Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, etc. they appear to my uneducated eyes to be doing a one piece take away. Are these guys outliers or am I missing something?
They are most definitely not starting with a one-piece takeaway or starting from a static position. Remember, force precedes motion. They are using a counter movement to get the club swinging and the body shifting.
Thanks for your reply.
You guys have made it perfectly clear in all your instruction that the one piece takeaway is no Bueno.
You have made it perfectly clear that there is not enough time to consistently fix a poor backswing unless you are extremely talented.
IMHO some folks might benefit from the "concept" of the one piece takeaway to keep from folding the right arm too much in the backswing and get more turn and width. This was the point that I was trying to make.
Fires a hozel rocket..."good" lol...seriously though going to the garage now to try this tip, my backswing is always getting to fast inside... thanks guys
haha.. It wasn't a shank but close if I remember correctly. Its such a great drill. Have you had a chance to try it out yet??
@@AthleticMotionGolf heck yes I tried it that night and have used it everyday since. It's helped get and stay on plane as well as helped me get depth on the backswing... great to thanks.
How’d y’all know I was working on my take away today??
We have ESPN 😂
Anybody hits a golfbal with a takeway please ?
huh???
Beetje in de war Adri?
@@arjanpetersen Ja gelukkig wel Ik sla ballen Met een downswing dus
Get to top of swing before you start down swing move all your weight onto left foot if you right handed
