Did you put the Drydex in the grout lines around the faux brick and then paint? It looks thick in the grout lines. The only place I put the Drydex was down the one seam, and slightly to the left and right of the seam to blend it in. But not around all the other bricks
Hey Amy!! The wall looks amazing. I m trying to do something similar for Media room. Just so I make sure I got everything right. You started with covering the seam with spackle. Painted the spackle with brick color paint where necessary. Then painted the brick as well around the bricks with white color and finally used a damp kitchen sponge to expose the brick. Also you used primer not paint, so any primer would work for this? Thanks
This is the best brick panel accent wall I have seen! The seams bother me on most, but I can't even see yours. What did you use to apply the pink spackle/ putty knife and wipe off the brick? When you did the final white primer paint on the brick, you did not paint the grout lines, correct?
Thank you so much! That was what bothered me as well I did not want to be able to see a seam down the middle of the wall. I just used my fingers to apply the spackle it was easier than using a putty knife for me and I would go over then seam more than once if I had to. And yes when it came to the final white paint for the brick I sponged it on instead of painting it to help better minimize the seam.
A guy assisting me at Lowes said using those "brick" panels (made of a pressed cardboard-like material) are a bad choice for kitcnens or baths because it will expand when it gets wet.
Thanks for sharing, this looks wonderful. You did an amazing job! I have a question regarding your shelving. How do you hang things (especially heavy things) from your wall once your brick tile has been applied? How were you able to locate your studs?
Thank you! Our shelves are actually hung up by joist hangers on the side walls so there isn't anything where the brick panels are. I'm not sure if a stud finder would work but it might cuz the panels are pretty thin. But if you don't have one you could find a switch or power outlet which are usually attached to stud and measure 16inches from there since studs are usually 16 inches apart. We knew where ours were based on the nail holes in the crown molding. Hope that's helpful!
@@AmyLynn1 Thanks for the reply, Amy! I may have to mark where my studs are prior to laying down the brick (I have old lath walls, with drywall overlayed).
Lol not a stupid question! I used a damp sponge I actually had a bucket of water with me that way I could rinse off the paint quickly otherwise your sponge will just get full of paint and smear all around.
I guess you could use any white paint color, huh? My cabinets will be white dove by Ben moore, and there is an enclosed brick porch just off the kitchen I would like to do a german schmear on but was afraid "white" would be to stark. I can see where you're getting at but if I used less paint you'd be able to see the brush strokes or bare spots even after distressing so I needed the bricks to be completely opaque to get the look I was going for. Also if you don't wait for the paint to dry enough all that's going to do is smear the paint around giving you more of a white wash look rather than distressed. You don't have to wait long for it to dry but you need some of the paint to actually stick to the bricks not just smear all over.
We put up the 2 panels yesterday and the seam is off 1/2 inch, after measuring everything, big disappointment. Yours is definitely the best joining I’ve seen.
Hey!! Did you just use the spackle over the seams or did you use spackle over the entire “grout line” in the brick? I guess I’m wondering how you faded the spackle out into the rest of the “grout” if you only used it on the seems.
Hello. Thank you for your video. I am doing this process in my laundry room. Can you tell me what technique did you use on all the grout lines? Did you use the spackle in all the grout lines?

I just wanna make sure I do this right. I couldn’t tell if you took the spackle and did in between the bricks and then painted or if you just painted the faux cement. Thanks so much
@@tamidonnelly714 sorry for the late reply! If you go to my channel and click on the community page I posted a picture of the custom color I used. I filled in my seam first and did go to the sides a bit with spackle just to blend it in so it wasn't an obvious line down the middle. Then I painted the bricks that had the seam the red paint color then went ahead with the white wash and did all the bricks and the "mortar" at the same time. Hope that helps!
Thank you! Did you use the spackling in all of the grout lines or just the ones with the seams? I am in the middle of this project and I don’t know what I’m doing. I appreciate your help.
You could but I think it would be harder to hide a seam if you painted the bricks separately. I would at least paint the ones with a seam while it was already up that way both sides can match if its right down the middle like mine was.
I did pretty small sections probably less than 10 bricks at a time. It was just easier for me that way. I wouldn't do the whole wall first cuz it would dry too much and get a lot harder to distress the paint.
Follow-up question since you posted this at least a year ago.. how is this holding up and do you still love the way it looks and feels? I'd like to try this on the long wall behind my sofa so I need it to look and feel realistic. Thank you!!
Thank you and unfortunately I did this project before I thought to make a video so I was unable to show every single step in real time but tried to explain it best I could! To install we measured our wall and cut the panels to size using a circular saw and a keyhole saw for the outlets and nailed them up using finish nails (you could also use construction adhesive) If you have any questions on how to install the panels let me know and I can try to help!
I let it get JUST dry enough where you can't see shiny paint anymore..about 5 minutes. Otherwise if its wet it just smears the paint around. Doing this I only did about 5 or 6 bricks at a time.
Hi. This is beautiful. Could you please tell me about your shelves? How are they attached? How did you get them level. I love the whole look. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much! For the shelves I just used 2x10 boards from Lowes stained them and then used polyurethane. To attached them since there was wall space on each side all I used was joist hangers and used a level and screwed the board into those. Here's a link for the joist hangers that were used. www.lowes.com/pd/Simpson-Strong-Tie-Outdoor-Accents-174-Mission-Collection-8482-ZMAX-174-Black-Light-Joist-Hanger-for-2x10/1002624574

@amberpumroy6857 Your welcome! I only used the spackle in the seams but did drag it to the sides a bit just to blend it in better.
What's spakle?
A compound used to fill in cracks or holes
Plan on doing this to a wall in my home. One question: when did you paint the grout lines and did just use paint?
Just found the answer in the comments. Great job!
Came here for DIY tips for my weekend project, ended up getting unintentional ASMR as well lol! You should branch out!
Haha thank you!

Love this! Question: would it not be easier to paint the panels laying down flat, then install it?
Thank you for this video!
You could but I think it would be harder to hide a seam if you painted the bricks separately. I would at least paint the ones with a seam while it was already up that way both sides can match if its right down the middle like mine was.
How big of sections did you paint before you started distressing it? Or did you paint the whole thing white then distressed it
I did pretty small sections probably less than 10 bricks at a time.
Thank you!!
Yes I still love it just as much as when I put it in and its held up really good! And people who see it in person say it looks realistic as well!
@@AmyLynn1 thank you so much!!
Wow
Came out beautiful but I didn’t learn how you install or what you did exactly
Thank you and unfortunately I did this project before I thought to make a video so I was unable to show every single step in real time but tried to explain it best I could! To install we measured our wall and cut the panels to size using a circular saw and a keyhole saw for the outlets and nailed them up using finish nails (you could also use construction adhesive) If you have any questions on how to install the panels let me know and I can try to help!
Nice job! I have seen so many on here where the end results look mediocre at best. This looks great!
Thank you!!
Yes this is the way to go
Did you glue the panels at all? Or just nail into studs?
@@beckyzimmer2407 they are just nailed into the studs in case we ever wanted to remove them that way the drywall wasn't ruined behind it.
Seamless 😮
Awesome job! And that seam job tho! Great job nice too!👍
Thanks!
Does the Zinser need to be wet or dry when you are removing with the scratch pad?
I let it get JUST dry enough where you can't see shiny paint anymore..about 5 minutes. Otherwise if its wet it just smears the paint around. Doing this I only did about 5 or 6 bricks at a time.
great job
Yours is the best brick wall I have seen without the seems showing
Thanks so much!
can you provide a link for the panels from Home Depot? or a product #? thanks!
i see it in the video now - missed it earlier.
Okay good! I added some links in my description if you need them.
Brilliant idea! 😍

@@marytwinn1612 Your welcome!
Look AMAZING!! Can I please get the paint color / formula, or can you psot a pic of teh top of the can form Sherwin? TY!
Hi Madison! I can't post a picture on here but if you want I can send you a picture of the custom color formula possibly through email? I have mine in the about me on my page. I tried to type the formula out but it just looks really confusing lol.
@@AmyLynn1 hello! If I gave you my email could you email the paint formula? Thank you for your video it is very helpful
@@meagangoble201 yes I can do that!
@@AmyLynn1 great! Is there a way I can private message you or do I need to add it to this thread?
@@meagangoble201 I don't think youtube has messaging as far as I know at least. amylynn263@gmail.com is my email if you want sent me a message and I can reply with a picture of the formula😊
🔥🔥🔥
BEST seam cover I've seen so far.
Thank you!!
What paint did you use?
I just used Zinsser FastPrime2 primer & sealer. You can see a picture of the can at 0:26 seconds. Honestly you can use any white paint you want I just recommend a flat or matte white. I just used that one because I already had it at home. And for the brick color paint I went to Sherwin Williams with a cut off brick from the panel and had them color match it and just got a sample size of paint. Hope that helps!
