Do it!! 👏🏼 it’s holding up great! I have not hung anything on this wall but I would imagine it would be okay! My kiddos have gotten juice splatters on it and when I went to wipe, some of the joint compound smears. This is because I didn’t seal it. Sealing it would prevent/protect from smears and stains! Best of luck 🫶
I've done this technique on 3 huge walls now and I can 100000000% confirm that the best strategy is to take the tape off immediately after you lay the joint compound. The compound is viscous enough that it will hold its shape even completely wet. I've actually never seen anyone try to take it off dry, but good to know it's not completely ruined if that happens!
I sort of disagree! It whipped the edges or each brick up so each brick was pointy all around the edges. Which made filling the “grout” with compound so much more difficult.
I used joint compound to cover block walls over 25 years ago. I used a 5 gal bucket of it at a time. I would put on, smooth it out, and sand it when it was dry, it took a few coats and a long process, but it worked and you’d never know they were block walls underneath it now.
Absolutely perfect! I have been looking at different techniques to acheive a rustic brick wall. Your wall looks exactly like what I want. So glad I watched this. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Brooke, this is the video I've been waiting for since you revealed the wall earlier this year and this is amazing. This would be a great backsplash in a kitchen or to camouflage a floating column or pillar. Great job! 👍🏼 😊🧱🌦
This wall is amazing I’m in love with it…thanks for sharing…I will be doing this….once I get my own place…tell your husband great job with just eyeballing it…this is the best faux brick wall if ever seen… the little one is so cute…have a blessed day👍👍👍👍👍💗💗💗💗💗
It looks awesome! You made it look really easy. Love how you wrapped it around the wall, it looks more legit! Your color choices were perfect for your home, great job! Tfs!
Wow! your project came out beautifully. It looks amazing! I am going to attempt to do this in my pantry. A small-ish walk-in in my new house which is an old Scottish manor house from the 1800's. The pantry is an utter shambles and I cannot wait to fix it up. There are holes in the wall, cracks, bumps, and all sorts of uneven textures. Hope I can pull it off as well as you did. Thanks for sharing!
GORGEOUS…Wall!!! Good job!!! I LOVE it!!! You always look so DOLLED 🎀UP & DRESSED UP, for doing Projects. I always look disgusting & hair pulled up. 🤣😆😂😅 Thank you for sharing!!!😊❤
I LOVE it!! I have a dinky wooden fireplace cover so it's a small area and I'm going to attempt this. This is the look I've been trying to achieve and I thought I had to use real bricks and I knew that would be difficult. So, THANKS!!!!!
When you lay out your tape I normally use a level and mark my lines. Then I buy 5 gallons of joint compound. Then I use my mud pan and my 10 inch knife and put the joint compound on. A wall like you have in the video would take me 10 minutes are so. While it's still wet I pull tape off.
AMAzing arch detail. And… ripping the tape off when it’s dry makes the bricks look more authentic which has been my biggest hangup with the plethora of UA-cam videos I’ve seen. BTW, did you get a chance to seal it all? Just one question: Why go back in with more joint compound instead of more whitewash? Thanks!
I've been researching for months and can genuinely say your video has given me the exact steps I need to go ahead with my project. Instead of bricks I'm going for stone. Thank you for sharing. You've done an amazing job 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 One question because I want a very textured wall do I just put more on ?
I've done a wall in my dining area and 3 upper walls of a bathroom (lower walls are wainscot), and I can say for absolute certainty that you remove the tape while the joint compound is still "wet". Otherwise, I love what your wall looks like!
New follower here saying hi from Nova Scotia Canada. Loving your technique this is what I am going to do to my kitchen could you please tell me where you get Orgot the rug in where your husband is standing info please❤
I did this to a large wall in my living room, as well as to a fireplace and did it for my backsplash in my kitchen. You aren’t supposed to let it dry all the way - like you said, you need to peel it off when it is halfway dry!! Otherwise, you end up with it tearing like yours did!! Looks great though!!
This is exactly the video I needed. I've went through 5 other videos explaining this technique. All of which had super annoying, loud music throughout the entire video without pause, Even while speaking..... but at first you had me like 🫣 "noo don't do it dry" 😅 great job 👏🏼 👍🏻
@brookeAnn I have a panel brick wall, I was to use this technique but don't want to white wash. Then the brick will come out, still the dark color with a lot of white over. Do you have any suggestions?
Emily Freyble Home channel did a faux brick fireplace wall (video March 2023) where she used the brick wall paneling material that comes in large sheets that have a darker red brick color. When working with that type of faux brick material, people are cutting the half bricks on the edges to fit the "bricks" together so the wall doesn't end up with an obvious vertical seam. When they've finished it with the "schmear" they mainly focus on filling in the spaces between the bricks where the mortar would go (on UA-cam, people may refer to it as grout lines, but tile has grout, bricks use mortar - similar but different). The goal is to cover any obvious seams and nails to make it look as realistic as possible, but then you can go as heavy or light with whatever you use for the "schmear" to get the color you want. So with the red tone bricks, if you want it darker, you'd just use less of the whitewash or joint compound when you are finishing it or wipe more off.
I like what you did but I would like it better if you had painted the bricks a little darker. It doesn’t have quite enough contrast for me. GAYLE G. Great job though.
Dude. Obviously protect adjacent surfaces. Apply compound with a larger say 8 to 10 inch mud knife. Pull the tape when it's setting up but never completely dry. Mix white paint with glaze or water for white wash. Many ways to make this easier on you and less time consuming. Looks pretty good in the end. I think it could use more contrast. All in all nice job.
Hi everyone! I hope you love the end result as much as I do! Let me know if you have any questions! ❤
This looks lovely! I'm getting ready to take this task on in my tiny house! How is your wall holding up?? Have you hung anything up on this wall???
Do it!! 👏🏼 it’s holding up great! I have not hung anything on this wall but I would imagine it would be okay! Looks Fantastic! Did you go back & seal it with anything? If so what did you use? How does it to clean after seal?
By far the best brick wall tutorial I’ve seen . Thank you
Holy f. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Oh Brooke. It’s beautiful. I wouldn’t have the nerve to risk it. You did a great job.
I need to know how well this holds up! Thanks!

What tape did you use? Painters tape? I absolutely LOVE this. I've been checking out videos so I can do it in my foyer. Great job and video!

This is a really beautiful faux brick. Great job on the tutorial as well. I love the arch detail and gives a lot of character.
Brooke I have been watching other tutorials and yours is the best. Thank you so much I now have the perfect project
Are you joking?
It looks awesome! You made it look really easy. Love how you wrapped it around the wall, it looks more legit! Your color choices were perfect for your home, great job! Tfs!
I totally agree! Thanks Kari 😍
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the faux brick look but am reluctant to do in my home because when you tire of it, it's so permanent.
Beautiful! Can’t wait to paint my joint compound brick! Thanks for the inspiration!
This is absolutely beautiful. Perfect!👍
I love that you wrapped it around! Those extra details make it look visually more interesting
Absolutely AMAZING JOB!!! This is committment

It looks absolutely amazing and I love this technique you did !
Looks great! Remove the tape when it's still wet. That will prevent the tape from sticking.

I always thought you supposed to take off the tape when the drywall was still wet.
Yes, definitely remove it while it's wet, otherwise it's a real pain to get off dry.

hi can I ask why you use acrylic paint for the colours ? C Ould you use silk or satin paint?
A satin paint might give it a bit of a sheen that may make it look less like a rustic, aged brick. I'm not sure what a silk paint is.
I did an entire bathroom years ago. What did you seal it with? Being porous, it needs to be sealed.
You ate that.
Love it! 😍 where did you get your olive tree?
Amazon has a number of nice faux olive trees in assorted sizes. Pottery Barn has some nice ones too, but they cost significantly more.
What color paint did you use?
😍😍😍
❤

Hello my friend...I hope you doing good and we just back from our vacation week ago...
Just slather that on with your hand and then use the tool to smooth it. Goes much faster!
I commented this before realizing that is exactly what you ended up doing!
All the tutorials I've seen of people doing it this way took the tape off when the compound was still wet.
When I did mine I took it off just before it completely dried and it was so aatifying
I did the fireplace that was red but I let a little bit more of the red show through
I do love the red brick so much!! I bet it turned out so good!
@@BrookeAnn Yours came out beautiful
They do make wall panels that look like would've been easier and they are printable
Hey❤
Tyler 😂👀
His reaction was great 🤣
@@BrookeAnn so funny hahaha
I think it looked good before you white washed it.

You are welcome to make them darker if you choose! And thanks!

How much of a pain in the 🍑 is getting joont compound off your wall if/when you decide to change it? 😭
Is it me or it looks like lots of steps!
Guys I’m begging you- please don’t do this
Why?
Love it!!
