Installing a Rhodan 96 on my 301 Cobia using a Shuttle Slide mount

- Here I finish the physical mount of the Rhodan on my Cobia. I chose to use a Shuttle Slide to help keep the prop and motor inside the gunwale. Stay tuned for my next video where I will go through all of the electrical connections.
Here are the Ram mount ends I used for the stabilizer:
Small for handrail: amzn.to/3JBHUi7
Medium for TM shaft: amzn.to/3uZmmIb - Спорт
Great Video I just purchased one myself. Russ the owner is AWESOME he helps you with any questions you have! Thanks Shuttle Slide!
Hope to back out on that ride, always a good time.
Looks good Mike
Thank you Steve!
Great video. I'm installing the Rhodan 96 on my Cobia 296, so I was excited to locate your video. I may have additional questions as I get further into my install project but for now I was wondering which model Shuttle Slide did you purchase.
Thank you Bryan. Mine is the ss 9 UHD, but they have since replaced it with an EXD model that is wider and has thicker hardware. Let me know if you have any questions.
Bryan - I have two other videos on the install - make sure you check out the playlist.
@@4RibsFishing Thanks for the quick reply! I just ordered the SS-9-EXD. I watched your electrical installation video and Taco Rub Rail nav light videos. Can't thank you enough for the videos. They will save me a lot of time and planning. I have a small youtube channels where I post videos for my fishing guests. A lot of my guests are more interested in the video aspect than the actual fishing. I slowed down at the start of COVID as I limited my boat to 2 people and it's hard to operate the boat, rig, fish and capture video. But I'm planning to up my game shortly. Thanks,

Looks great, I’m installing an 84” on mine, where can I buy the rail mount stabilizer you used in this video?
The center section of the stabilizer came with the Rhodan, along with 2 ends that I did not use. The two new ends in my video are from Ram Mount - I just added links in the video details.
Love the stabilizer bracket!
What model shuttle slide did you use?
Thank you Kenny - part number SS-9-UHD on the Shuttle Slide.
Excellent video can I ask? What is the weight of that unit?
I can't find specs on their website, but I would say 75lbs.
hey how are u liking the rhodan I have a minnkota on order but if a rhodan becomes available I might hop on it
I needed the 96" shaft on my 30'CC so Rhodan was the only option. It held my position in 20mph winds the other day - so I am happy with it. I'm sure the Minnesota would be fine if the shaft size works for your application.
Just changed out my raw water Shurflo pump and then saw your video with the in-line strainer and back wash modification. Many thanks. I'll probably incorporate those "upgrades" next week. With regards to the RAM Mount, I ordered the two ball mounts you provided in your links. What about the arm? I assume you ordered an arm that gets you close to the distance between the shaft and the handrail near the location where you want the mount located and simply slid the mount forward or back until it fit, utilizing the diverging angle between shaft and rail? Do you remember the length of the arm you installed?
Thanks,
Bryan
Bryan, I used the arm that came with the Rhodan. It’s approximately 4-5”, but I will measure it next time on the boat. Give me a few days.
Brian - it's the 'medium' size arm. RAM Mounts Double Socket Arm RAM-201U Medium Arm Compatible with RAM C Size 1.5" Ball Components
@@4RibsFishing Thanks so much! My Rhodan and Shuttle Slide should arrive any day now. Gathering tools and supplies for now. Plan to glass a shelf in my large forward storage area to hold a 36v Lithium battery. Still researching battery manufacturers.
@@bryanlandry1290 you are very welcome!!!
What did you install for navigation light?
I installed rub rail nav lights. Made a few videos on that too. ua-cam.com/play/PLuJYz5ooCzZyEDIHpcPEjFvNrnrFgCafJ.html
What type of stabilizer did you use?
I like the one you have that connects to the bow rail
Expert - those are RAM Mounts - specific part numbers are linked in the video description.
@@4RibsFishing I don't see the links in the description of the video?

Does the mount wobble or have free play in heavy seas? I am debating whether to use the shuttle slide, or just mount the motor directly onto the deck.
The only reason to use this mount is if you need to slide the motor further out on the rub rail. If you don't have that issue, just go direct to the deck. BTW, these motors don't work in heavy seas.
How is the view when underway? On my 350 it's pretty bad w/my 96", trying to figure out options to relocate it but not sure that's possible.
Brian, I raised my seats 3”, so it’s fine. When your running at speed your looking farther ahead - so I’ve stopped noticing it.
@@4RibsFishing How easy was that to do?
@@brianlb78 I had to move my nav lights first, then decide how to mount the motor, then do the electrical. None of the tasks were ‘hard’ but they all required patience and medium level skills. Just don’t assume you can finish in an afternoon. There’s always something else you need to finish!
How did you get the original baseplate off the rhodan
There are bolts holding it on from the underside. Very easy to remove.
@4Ribs Fishing I seen the bolts just figured out I had to take the plastic housing off to undo the nuts to get them to come out.
How do you retrieve it?
All of the long saltwater trolling motors are manual retrieve. You hit a release button and it folds down.
Thank you. I wasn't very clear with my question. I have a 301 with a Rhodan. In the past I have gone on the bow and sat straddling the motor to raise it up. Because of knee replacement, I don't think I will be able to do that any more. My neighbor uses a rope attached to the head to pull it up. It works, but not sure if head is meant to take that pressure. Do you just stand on the bow?@@4RibsFishing
