Well done girls. The 'narrowboat experience' the experience is starting to show. I was taught a lesson at locks by a very experienced person who lived and worked from his widebeam. Coming downstream, he stopped briefly to get off and open the gates (Bardney Lock btw). Just tied a thin centre rope throwing a few turns around a bollard. Opened the gates and went in on tickover. Leaving his boat in gear he got off, opened the lower paddles. Cill is topside gates. Once emptied, he got onto the boat, putting it in neutral. It drifted back and he opened the lower gates, back on the boat, took it out and tied it as before. I offered him a cup of tea, which he excepted and we had on my boat Wud E Nuff. I learned a lot that day .
Those bridges really made for an uplifting experience. Flowers on roofs? I guess, however cluttered they make the boat look, at least the cats won’t have to leave the boat to do their business. They can scratch the dirt all over that new paint job.
I have a full on life with lots of stress as a paramedic and an advanced life support instructor, your and CC’s vlogs have convinced me, I am looking for a boat and I’m going to spend my down time on canal time as soon as I can get a boat for my wife our dog and myself 👍
Glad to have helped. It is actually quite good for mindfulness. I watched a duck family for 5 mins today. Doesn't sound like a long time, but it was lovely to just focus on one thing at a time. Also thank you for all your work you do as a paramedic. x
Real flowers on top but even better would be growing vegetables! You two are delightful to watch. I’ve been following you for a while and would check in periodically. Now, you have become an important mainstay in my watching habits during this coronavirus lock down. I enjoy watching the playful exchange between the two of you and the occasional expressions of affection that you share on screen. Thank you for being you and sharing your lives through your Narrowboat Experience.
Oh yes, LOTS of flowers (only real ones...) and herbs and veggies! And.... videos of Munchie and Alice enjoying the garden :-) Much Love from Mexico.... and 4 cats!xo
Real flowers and any kind of garden. It's not a lot but it can counter act the exhaust from the diesel. Plus if you grow veg/fruit/greens/herbs it's free food.
Six Roses of every color, square pots right along the middle, awesome! just like you two Roses of opposite colors, awe I think that's nice Kevin, do you? yes I do! lol
The meat is in the oven, the Yorkshire puddings are mixed and the vegetables are waiting in the steamer. I always do Sunday lunch for my parents but it’s lovely if I can find 10 minutes in the morning for a cuppa with your video. I look forward to the lovely interlude watching you two soulmates on the canals. I’ve clicked like because I definitely want more videos. Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.
I've been a subscriber for a while now and I wanted to thank you for your videos! I'm out here in California and we don't really have anything comparable to the locks or canal system here in the US. It's always a joy to follow along with your travels and live vicariously through youtube :)
Fake flowers is like having a concrete yard and painting it green. Lovely reflections at 1:46, and another excellent vid - and wel done on the locks :) .
In living areas we have fake flowers and greens, we have 6 cats and the buggers will eat anything. Our cats are strickly indoors so outside has real stuff. We mostly grow herbs and veggies and I get a bit of annuals every year, moss rose, snap dragons and pansies.
Ok girls stop that silliness. 😋 Thank you Brian and Annette for the new windlass and holder and yes I agree with Anna you are awesome. I thought Kath was going to fall in the canal at the 9:54 mark. Now I know how to be one of the first people to reply... just stay up till 3 am Oklahoma, USA time. lol 😁 Another great vlog ladies. 👍 Oh Oh, on my third time watching the vlog I noticed an on camera kiss. hee hee. Ok I have to add no plastic flowers at all and flowers on the roof if that is what you want.
Edible flowers, herbs and salad greens when seasonally possible - YES! Artificial flowers? Sorry...no. What is the point? Keep it real, like you two! Thank you for another lovely video...sweet and delightful!
@@TheNarrowboatExperience if it's a small tub it can sit in the well deck, most herbs will grow slowly in the winter months. Or you could put a small glass house over.
No to the fake flowers! But YES to wild strawberries! And basil and chives and rosemary and thyme! Especially if they overhang a little so you can reach out the window when you cook and grab herbs for dinner :)
not fussed, where, happy to sit back an be chauffered down the canal, any canal an look at the scenery, thats somewhat different to aus. nice goin m8s. oh, an see the cats :)
I vote for a clear roof, coal and wood the exception, less to worry about, but everyone is different, I mean, look at you two, you have differences all the time and we just love it!
Re: Flowers on roof: Sure. Also tomatoes, radishes, peas, and any other plant you wish to grow. Just remember tunnel clearances, lol, and the possible inconvenience of having to temporarily move planter boxes inside whilst navigating them.
Yes the flowers 💐 live only, hopefully you don’t have to move them to the bridges, that would be a drag 🤔 With the music, step into/dive into the water, I thought for sure someone was going in the canal😱😋
Your opening statement "it is the crack of dawn..... (wait for it) about half past eight" 😅ha ha ha ha ha. Obviously the dawn I see when I get up at 05.30am is not the same as the one you see! Have a good journey. PS try and see the earlier "crack of dawn" sometimes it's beautiful.
NO to fake flowers! I like the ones with food growing, tomatoes, beans, salad leaves etc and some but not too many flowers, a nice lavender plant. Easy to be a romantic when I am still gongoozling lol - I realise when I get my boat the roof will be covered in logs, bits of wood and sacks of coal - oh well.
@@TheNarrowboatExperience To be fair that would be useful, more power is always handy. A compromise would be to have a couple of pots by the back door and in the cratch - lavender would be nice so it would smell lovely on a summer evening through the bedroom. I've seen the videos of "Scarecastle" (As CC calls it) and flower pots would probably get knocked off the roof. Have fab week - hoping to say hello to you both at Crick.
That was some nifty lock gate balancing! Thank you for sharing another great vlog, this week's CRT newsletter said the longer you spend by water, the happier you are. Very true for you two cheery, smiley ladies. I am working my way through watching your previous watery vlogs, especially now that I can claim there are health benefits. No to fake anything, plants are nice when flowering but mostly block the view and look untidy that also goes for bags of coal on the roof.
Thanks. It was a bit touch and go as to if I’d be able to get the gate open! I think being near water has great health benefits so hopefully watching water has a similar effect.
How goes the Hooning off the Llangollen Canal - well from this vlog, brilliantly... Problems with growing flowers on the roof I think would be:- 1. Possible obscuring of the view. 2. Constant need for watering - oh wait, you are back in England now & going into Summer - so it will rain every day! 3. Water damage to the paintwork on the roof. 4. They will just get established - then get de-headed in the next tunnel or low bridge. 5. Increased wind resistance. 6. The cats will be tempted to use the soil (self fertilizing though!). 7. Potential colour clash with the paintwork. 8. There is no point eight - cancelled due to lack of ideas. 9. If you get them looking really good people might think they are plastic. 10. Increased risk of them getting stolen by passers-by.

Sadly he died lost year, and I still have those silly silk flowers, so there is that.
definitely no slid flowers! Just herbs, tomatoes and cat nip of course. * a wooden slatted rack base to keep the plants off the steel decking and all would be grand :)
Flowers on a roof fake or real does not matter it's about if it makes you happy and I can't judge either way, what would the next question be? Should people have cats and dogs on a boat? Lovely video again thank you the scenery is so pretty.
