Most kind. It is the truth. Back in a month. Time flies and Sunday's gave me a look forward to. Thank you. Hope to catch up next year if you're at Crick
Hi NB's Happy New Year. Hope 2019 is kind to you both. In 2018 you have both grown and done so much. It's been such a treat to be able to follow your adventures. And what an adventure it's been. Sometimes when you haven't eaten you can get Hangry, and after you have your crappy morning won't seem so bad. Have a fab journey ladies, Alice & Munchie. Look forward to following your adventures next year. 👭🏻🐱🐈💖🐶🐾
I like how open you ladies are and find it quite important that you show how it really is to manage locks as a lady. I know it can't be ease to operate all the locks and deal with a boat of that size with so little power. You ladies seam to do quite well keep up the good work and remember to take breaks as multiple locks can be quite difficult.
Hi girls, I live in Scottsdale Arizona and like most Americans I have a soft spot in my heart for the UK. After watching a number of videos made by you sweet hearts. I believe having a sweet spot for the UK is now mandatory .
what a lovely vlog thank you! Willeymoor is also a fabulous pub with the best fish and chips :) And the Llangollen Canal is so nice. I feel for you - I also get massively clogged up with even small amounts of leaves.
Yay, thanks. The locks were tough, but we don't think we should complain too much. Put the kettle on have a cup of tea and ultimately you are still moored somewhere beautiful.
Hi Ladies and wish you and all yours a happyhols. You weren't beaten. When I saw the title, I had visions of a lock that was too high with inadequate access ladders. You did good. I did the canals around Birmingham with Mum and Dad (happy, happy days - but a long time ago). I remember one lock was huge and steep walls with no ladders. At the time I was fit keen and trained to .. So i climbed up the face of the gates. Just my theory but I think "we" never realise how good a time was, until it finishes. Take care and have a great holiday.
I am a boy so I can use the word knackered, and that is just how you two looked after that staircase with all its leaves, better days ahead after a good sleep, go girls you have a lot of people at your back!
We were pretty much as tired as we have been in a while. We are so grateful for all of the kind words we never want it to look like complaining because we are living a great dream, but some days you just have to admit that the locks beat you.
a big WELL DONE Anna for standing your ground over flooding the lock as we would have all been devastated had you followed his advice and sunk your beautiful boat its nice to see a woman stick up for herself in these situations once again a big WELL DONE, happy Christmas to you, Kath, Munchie, and Alice, and all the best for 2019 plus happy cruising 2019
Munchy is like Dexter, when we’re moving he goes up and down the steps non stop....only Dexter is 40kg and is always getting in the way. Have a fantastic Christmas
As someone whose family were from Wrenbury since at least 1700s (we now live in Crewe...just down the road from Nantwich) I visit Wrenbury quite a lot. Always wanted to go on a narrow boat as we love the open and I think it would be so relaxing and good for anxiety. Great vid.
Thanks for alle the volgs. It was a joy to watch all of them in the advent time. I wish you a merry Christmas and hopefully a very good new year with more of your wonderful videos.
Another wonderful video. I love that you tell us the names of the locks and show the bridges. I'm sitting here in Utah, USA following along with my Nicholson's guide. So fun. We'll spend the last two weeks of May on the Four Counties Ring. Our first time on the cut and we're so excited!! Thanks for taking all the time to provide your channel.
Hi Anna and Kath. I finally got the narrowboat pins. They went to my brother in England, were picked up by my sister and transported to Canada. I met my sister for our Christmas celebration, a bit early, and collected the pins. Nicely done. Merry Christmas to you. I look forward to many more of your adventures.
It's Friday I think 5th June 2020, been watching you both all afternoon, your vloggs are great very interesting n educational. I'm thinking of living on a 40ft if can sort something. Thanks for your events, better than TV anyday xx
love the sound of that diesel engine in that boat and its a very nice boat i have been on canals long time a go its a hard working holiday cruising is nice to see all the nice country sides
Ladies without fail I always look forward to watching your videos, thank you so much for bringing us viewers along on your journey and sharing with us your adventures. Here's wishing you both and of course your cats to a merry Christmas & happy new year 😁
Your vlogs are just wonderful. They lift my spirits and make me smile. You’re both always awesome in every way. Merry Christmas to you both and to Munchy and Alice xx
Love watching your videos. Merry Christmas you two. By the way....love the music you have with your videos. I keep my eyes open for you when I am out and about on the canals.
Merry Christmas Kath and Anna, we love the Llangollen Canal. We travel there twice. Glad you are enjoying it. We enjoy your vlogs very much. All the best for 2019, Bryan & Donna, Quebec, Canada
Merry Christmas girls. Keep warm looks quite chilly there. Our Christmas week in Adelaide is going to be in the 40's so I'll have the AC on. Have a great new year to.
Girls, you are awesome, no argument. Going in and out of locks, in a 6' 10" wide lump of steel with culverts all over the place, is no easy thing. So the odd clang here or knock there is always forgivable and deffo not embarrassing...cue naughty smile to camera from Anna M.....😂. Grindley Brooks locks are not the easiest, like you I've been up and down a few times, most awkward on your own, but when there's the lockies round its a breeze. Hope you enjoyed Whitchurch, its a lovely quaint place to spend a few days. On your way back, if its open, a call in at the Willeymoor pub is a must. Its gorgeous. Food lovely, interior spot on and the landlady is delightful. Merry Christmas to all on board the Ewart, and a Happy cruising new year, see you soon. 🎄🎄💖
Great video as usual, so glad to see you girls fought through the difficult locks one lock at a time and live to fight another day! Have a jolly Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Have been watching Brummies Outdoors on UA-cam. ....horrified to see what lurks beneath the surface. .........Keep up the good work and happy Christmas xxx
Great vid of a beautiful stretch of canal! Thanks 👍👍 In Dutch there is a saying that the “best” captains are on the shore side ... seems the gathered around the step lock this time 🤣🤣🤪 Have a great Christmas! 🌲🌲
Merry Christmas Cath, Anna, Munchie and Alice, have a lovely well deserved festive season, keep half an eye on the weather so if you do get iced in you are near your essential services x x x x
Great video , I hate locks lol , the worst I went through which was tiring , was foxton flight , I really hated it , my back can't cope with locks these days , so I go on the broads now .
Still loving your Llangollen videos. Hope you had a few in The Dusty Miller whilst you were in Wrenbury. Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to you both. Dave.
Great vlog both. We often stay at a small caravan site by the side of those "horrible 3locks " and watch / gongoozl the antics of boaters travelling through. The volunteers there seem to be quite helpful normally. That cafe there would of been worth a visit, yummy food and nice strong coffees ! Merry Christmas both !
I think if it had not been Autumn we would have been fine. Also our first time to encounter a lock absolutely full of leaves. So a learning experience.
Thanks Geeks. We recommend the Llangollen to you- too beautiful. But please wave your fist at Grindley Brook lock for us as it definitely did not play nice.
another great vlog Happy Christmas to you both. Good to see Rocking Robbin has made it on to one of your videos the fame!! Best wishes for next years cruising.
Your quite right - its your boat and you do it the way you want - I always made a point of telling the so called "experts' politely - but they got the message - - - -so good for you ! and Merry Xmas you two lovely boaters - great vid as always -
Thank you. Sometimes, because I'm so used to people being nice and helpful, when there is a not so nice 'know it all' it can be confusing. But I held my ground and I'm really proud of myself.
Glad you did the locks your own way. Always some know it all with answers to problems they were never asked to solve. I hope you’re both enjoying your voyage? 😊
When we did Grindley locks the boat in front got stuck between 1 and 2 going up. Not enough water as they hadn't put paddle down fully on 1. They put it in full reverse just as enough water reached the boat. Smashed in to bottom lock gate! Luckily I had lock keepers to help.
Whitchurch would be a good place to spend Christmas. Recommend ‘Etzio ‘ Italian restaurant on the high street, they do an earlybird set menu and even a £5.00 lunch menu(with wine). We did the Llangollen canal in September - excellent canal , although the lift bridges can be a pain.
You are always awesome.....even when dealing with thin locks full of leaves. Very pretty canal....But lots of leaves at thus time of year...But what can you do
Looks like you were crossing paths with a viewer at the end there, you were both smiling away and Anna got into full conversation with them as the video ended.
9:01 did you say "it's like they're hydraulic" ? ... cause they are in fact. see the silver oil lines at the bottom of the lockgear housing which transport the oil to the hydraulic cylinder for moving the paddle up and down.
I’ve never seen so many leaves in a lock, the CRT should really clean those out! The bad news is that I’ve had an offer on my boat. I actually cried when the broker called to tell me they had accepted a deposit. It was a very strange feeling I didn’t realise I was so attached to it. I now just have to sell my flat in East London and then I can start looking for another, bigger boat. I’ll be like NBH “between boats”. Have a lovely Christmas and a fantastic 2019. It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since your Christmas message last year. I must be getting old.
That’s great news because it means you get to buy your next boat! Do you know what you are looking for or will you wait until your flat is sold? You’ll be on another boat in no time at all.
The Narrowboat Experience I have my eye on a couple of boats. I’m looking for a 55 to 57 foot but there is a nice 53 foot reverse layout which I like. How long is your boat? I seem to think 52 feet! What length would you recommend now you have experience of CCing? I’d also like a bow thruster but it’s not essential, it could just be something else to go wrong!
Ours is 52ft. It seems to fit the same inside as many of the 57ft as we’ve got a short stern and bow. We wouldn’t go longer than 60ft. We quite fancy an enclosed bow on a 57ft otherwise I don’t think we’d get anymore internal space. We met a 52ft with three giant greyhounds and 2 people so you would likely fit with your tiny cute dogs.
The Narrowboat Experience Thanks for that. I’m wondering if a modern trad stern would be good because the dogs sleep in the bedroom at home and they could use the back engine room to sleep. I could also keep all my clutter in there, mooring pins etc! Ivan (my husband) likes the dogs on the cruiser stern when we travel because they love to look out and he thinks the trad stern won’t be good for them because they’ll have to be inside. The smaller boat I like is cruiser and reverse layout so that might be OK. You’ve been really helpful but can I push my luck and ask what you think about bow thrusters? Would you consider a modern trad stern?
You haven’t pushed your luck. You are welcome to message anytime on fb or email as well. I think bow thrusters are nice to have but don’t miss what I don’t have. There’s a few times when they might have come in handy but they are also another thing that can break! We like having a big water tank as having the freedom to moor up for a while without worrying is good. I think the bow thruster can mean a smaller tank sometimes. I was fancying a trad stern boat the other day as I (Kath) like the idea of a little work area but it really depends how accessible the engine is and how easy it is to get in the boat. We went on a few trads where it felt like we had to crawl through a tunnel to get to the main cabin! Trad boat owners have dogs on the roof maybe (which worries me from a safety perspective). But cruiser or a semi trad might be better if you and Ivan want the dogs out when you are moving. A boat we saw the other day was a cruiser that was filled in under the taff rail and had little doors that looked like a safe idea for pets but a canvas pram does the same thing.
Feeling for you both there - but you were still cheerful at the end - I guess there will never be a quick and easy way to get the leaves and other stuff from off the propeller. Have a peaceful and relaxing week wherever you are at Christmas
The most enjoyable of all the Narrowboat vlogs on the Tube. Have a great Christmas and New Year.
I have pinned your lovely comment to the top. X

AnnaMarie, no matter what you say... you both are always awesome. it looks like I'm only 6 months behind you and I'll be caught up on your vlogs. yay

The life style can be very mindful- so good for anxiety. But, there are still pressures so you still need to practice being calm.
Love those locks I remember the staircase locks and that white cafe. We didn't stop. Either way.

@ 10.40, leaf porridge! had that at fradley some years ago. absolute pain in the derriere.

When we did Grindley locks the boat in front got stuck between 1 and 2 going up. Not enough water as they hadn't put paddle down fully on 1. They put it in full reverse just as enough water reached the boat. Smashed in to bottom lock gate! Luckily I had lock keepers to help.
Yes, I can imagine. I'm hoping the gates are more friendly on the way back.
I’ll take note of these recommendations thanks.
You are always awesome.....even when dealing with thin locks full of leaves. Very pretty canal....But lots of leaves at thus time of year...But what can you do
Thank you so much, very kind words.
good morning ladies and HAPPY SUNDAY
Thank you.
For leaves I wonder if a small compressor to blow air around the prop would work?
well girls a very good vid so be safe and have a good Christmas and a happy new year
Thank you
Great video...again MERRY CHRISTMAS LADIES !!!
And to you.
Looks like you were crossing paths with a viewer at the end there, you were both smiling away and Anna got into full conversation with them as the video ended.
Yes, indeed. I love gongoozling.
I forgot to wish you both a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
Same to you
11:50 so true. take no notice of kindly helpers. The buc stops with you. Full stop. nice vid ;-)
