For the mid area where you had your 3 to 4 foot long pole & shamog, I was wondering if this was the preferred go to way of doing something in that middle area.
I think you set up a bi pod, maybe a trip pod & ran a ridge line either through that middle loop or a prussik loop on an occasion or 2.
I've seen some folks use an over hanging tree limb as well to get the same idea about propping up the mid area, but I guess that depends on a sturdy branch going the way you'd want it to go depending on the rest of the configuration?.
Also, if you had or wanted to do a raised bed, what type of room would you have or need so as to not feel cramped under the roof of the set up?

Greetings Corporal- Out of all the vids that you have showed different tarp configurations, this one is by far, my favorite set-up. Thanks for showing how to do the folds underneath and it looks great set-up. Good afterthoughts- seems like a lot of folks around here want you to do something or fix something for free. I like helping people out, but they need to help themselves first, before always relying on someone else to fix their issues. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good vids and be good- Carry On-

A very good video! Always like the tarp tent. Glad to see the coverings for the fire. Often, other videos show fires in the rain -- which we know will soon be put out by pouring rain. Plus, it gives protection as we feed the fire and cook our food. (Glad you like liver. I use liver for bait and eat other cuts.) The best part of the video was your final thought!! As a professional Santa, folks have no idea how expensive it it. Although I donate time to some non-profits, it is sad to see how many groups, schools, etc. want the performance for free -- especially in "peak times." Thanks and keep "preaching" on.

Just watched your episode and your final thought really was on point. I completely agree with you about it. It's one of those things that I was all for as a young guy... but then realized that employees are just numbers. Even for good companies. When you realize your selling your time for your profit, it becomes easier to rationalize whether there's a benefit to giving your time for free... which I'm sure there are good reasons. But in general, an employer that doesn't respect your time and isn't willing to pay for it will be the first to fire you when you're not profitable. Great episode, as usual!

For years my wife and I always wanted a country property me especially so I could do what I have learned from you thanks we're finally on 5 and half acre of land with native trees and bush to camp cook experience sleeping on the land all thanks for your postage videos keep teaching brother God bless.
Me and 6 of my buddies spent five days on a muzzleloader deer hunt like this one time. Never got to hunt but we had a blast sitting under our tarp tents shooting the bull and cooking all kinds of good stuff.

We should all nominate this as the BEST Corporals Corner video of the year! Excellent simple shelter configuration, a superior meal, and the final thought segment so many have observed one way or another. It saddened me to learn what a popular non-profit organization did to a top employee. He was not injured. The man could not afford to a meeting and was let go shortly before becoming vested in the organization's retirement plan, losing it all. I wonder what supporters would think if they knew how their beloved non-profit treated faithful long-time employees behind the screen of secrecy?
Amen on "should you do it for free" commentary. I will add my experience. I worked in IT for a local health care system. Took my computer on vacations, did extra, always a company 1st employee. For almost 40 years. My husband died at that health care system, due to negligence. I decided 8 months later to leave ...There are only two people that still contact me from that place. I could have pissed in the wind for all the difference my hours made. Anyway, thanks for letting this 60 year old woman vent. The past 90 days since I left my job have been somewhat bittersweet. Miss the old man, but finally busy living. Work for the paycheck, but don't forget to live your life. Otherwise, it ain't worth it.

A method that I was taught when I was a Boy Scout in the 1970's was to always put a 3" deep rain trench around your tent.
Great tip Works well in most areas, will help with pooling to the extent that the trench is dug in torrential downpour, even inches in elevation can mean the difference from a dry pack/bed and hypothermia.

Cool. I always find that a tarp, or blanket, with the right folds can do all of functions. It is good to know a tarp setup that can provide severe weather protection. Thank you for your videos and God bless you and your family.

Great teaching on setting up the tent to stay dry. Love this information because watching what you did makes it a lot easier. Great video Corporal!
It may seem a small point but thumbs up for the way you cooked the liver and onions. Fully cooking the onions and then setting them aside, allows you to cook the liver properly. I've seen many people (including my mother) put the liver and onions together and then cook them until the onions are done, which results in leather and onions. Not a good look.

As miserable as it may be setting up camp in the rain, the sound of the rain on my canvas shelter is THE best sleep that I get when camping.
Cheer up, Corporal. My local grocery has an interesting policy - If an item sells out quickly and they have trouble keeping it in stock, they simply stop stocking that item. "Don't sell this item, it's too hard to keep in stock." Glad to know this idiocy is limited to my hick-ass small town. "Don't stock products because they sell too will." *shakes head, violently*

I'm one of the lucky few....I worked 27 years for a family run communications company. They treated ME like family, so I returned in kind. If they needed me to go to a mountain top site Saturday night at midnight, I would (not for free....) If I needed to use the shop to work on a rig, they had no problem with that. Like I said, I was one of the lucky few.....
Perfect spot for a tarp setup and I love me some liver and onions.
Without a groundsheet, how do you stay dry in prolonged rain where the ground gets soaked?

I will ask not just for our direct community but for people in the future that need to know the skills that you have to offer. He also explains it everytime, so he's either repeating a script or making a whole new explaination that he knows is very boring and will probably have people leave the video, so in all fairness I think we would all be irritated doing it for a year or years, when its been done tens if not hundreds of times.

Been there and done that. I worked in a local council warehouse where I suffered back injuries and needed to take time off. I was even medically advised to look for a job that didn't involve heavy lifting. So I asked the council boss to see if there were any light-work jobs available. They said they would look into this and get back to me. The council then attempted to sack me. I took them to court and won my case and received compensation and then left my job due to ill health. Never again will I trust any corporation.

One thing I can not get over is how the 'roof' to the fire does not catch fire. I would end up setting the whole thing up in flames.

I used to wonder the same thing but, you'll notice 2 things as clues.
1- the fire involved isn't really that big & is only shooting up maybe 2- possibly 5 inch flames from the base.
2- just how high up the tarp is from where the fire would be.
I guess some experimenting may go into this involving setting up a fire, lighting it & seeing or feeling how much heat you get as you put your hand safely & further away going in an upwards direction from the base of your fire?
I'd guesstimate his fire cover tarp is at least 4 or so feet off the ground but could be more or less depending?
This is what to me, it visually looks like on Camera.

i've personally been through the 'donating time' scam in the past. all i can say is, never again. if the boss wants me to come in early, he should pay me. i don't go to work for a favor. favors, do not pay my rent.
We did a bushcraft camp with my boys Thursday night. I built a lean to from some pines we cut last year. 12" of pine straw made the bed nice. Just widh I coulda slept in it! One of the boys took the lean to. Another took my hammock and tarp setup. So, I resigned myself to roughing it.
A king size bed sheet treated with waterproofing makes a good size tarp. My waxed canvas tarp was folded over a thinner bed of pine straw. It was good for a night.
Normally I get hungry watchin your vids. But ya lost me with the liver n onions. Lol!
Now, if it was breaded n fried along with some okra n squash...

I use that tarp configuration a lot. It's a great setup. And it's more adaptable than a tent.
Loved the final thoughts. And the work reference was spot on. I just had that discussion with my company a while back. They are a little miffed at me now.

Your final thought is in a way how the Air Force did me. I had a knee that had been scoped or repaired. I had a physical profile that would not allow me to deploy. Knowing this and having 13 years invested in my career I applied for and got a position in quality control that didn't have a deployment commitment.
I had a desk, nameplate and key to the building.
The Air Force kicked me to the curb despite the fact that I had an unmarked history. In 6 weeks I went from a career to none. I was bitter. I had a family and bills to pay. I had to go job hunting. The first thing a prospective employer would ask is why the AF separated me. I would explain why and I would get the brush off. To them I was damaged goods. Finally the last employer I didn't tell about my knee I was hired on.
All those times I went above and beyond were gone like dust in the wind. None of it helped me stay in the service. But I look back now and am satisfied that I was the best at what I did as I could be. I wasn't any effing slacker. That's what counted the most.

My dad was asked to retire from the army after over 24 years in…. He wanted to do 30 but the army was weeding out all the Vietnam veterans during the 80’s…. My dad retired in 1987…. He volunteered to go to Vietnam three times and did so…..Funny how they asked him if he would come back in 1990 to be a training instructor during Desert Shield…. He told them to F off….. “you didn’t want me to stay in in 87 and you want me back? F off”……
